The main reasons I go to Ott are the fair membership prices with no long term contracts or hidden greedy fees, and the full sized basketball court that has one main court or two side courts (6 baskets, sometimes only 3 when the curtain is down). The workout space is cardio oriented, but there is a stationary machine for pretty much every lift. Free weight area is on the smaller side too, but the weights are super nice, with an additional newer rack with smaller dumbbells up to 20lbs, so there's plenty to work with. Also, there's a smith machine squat rack, olympic lifting platform and squat rack, 3 different leg press variations, and plenty of adjustable benches, bench press racks with incline, decline, and flat. The only negative is the parking lot is difficult. It's narrow with a narrower entrance, makes it hard to get in, park, and avoid other drivers. Otherwise this is a great gym, especially for shooting hoops/pickup. read more

Great pool, clean and well kept. Locker rooms and showers are in good condition and the weight and aerobic machine room is great with a fabulous picture window facing the Catalina Mountains. The weight machines are new and I like that they are the type where each arm is independent forcing you to use both sides of your body equally. read more

The staff is so nice, especially the daycare staff. I'm so glad they offer childcare services for the time you're using the gym. I've used the basketball courts, tennis courts, the gym and the pool and I'm very satisfied with the condition of everything. This YMCA is not new by any means but they have kept up the condition of the equipment. I also appreciate they have community events such as a trunk or treat coming up. nice morning staff. Ongoing hot water issue. Yes, the pool is open, but need to shower before and after. Very cold water. Exercisers unable to shower as well. This is the second time in just a few months and usually the hot water is not back on for several days. Still waiting on hot water and staff say they have no idea when it will be fixed. read more

Friendly staff and kids love it. They always have a good time here. Just make sure all jackets are marked so no other parents take them.

The location is great, facility is nice ( old but clean) and the pool is nicely heated. But the pool hours stink! They open the pool early in the morning and close it by noon! It's winter and many of us snowbirds would like to swim in the warm sun. The emails kept changing the pool hours and even today I got there at the wrong time because the hours were incorrect. Manager has a bit of an attitude. Weight room is great but please please control people using cell phones while hogging a machine for half a hour. read more

I enrolled my kids for swimming lesson this summer for private lesson but it's been two weeks waiting their call since they posted on the enrollment they will contact us. I paid the $50 enrollment but this is a waste of money since they don't call me for two weeks now. This is the YMCA OTT and the one near city center. read more

When I first started coming to the Ott YMCA, I was so dissatisfied. Problem after problem, from closing the pool for no reason, to kicking me out of the pool while personal sessions were allowed, to lack of communication between staff... HOWEVER, after complaining and expressing myself over email and in person, they actually made changes! I now go here anywhere from 2-5 times per week to take the exercise courses, swim, or lift. Exercise instructors Jerry and Sandi are so encouraging. Jerry especially provides numerous versions of a workout to accommodate each person's ability. He also asks questions, like if we have had any injuries, so that he can provide even more alternatives. One of the lifeguards Erika deserves a shoutout too! I haven't seen her in a while, but she helped me improve my swimming with simple tips, and really builds you up. The best thing about this place is that it's also family friendly. I called to ask a simple question if authorization was given for my kinship/foster kids through DCS, Katy answered the phone and transferred me to Olivia's extension and Angelic/Angela answered said she would look right into that- I've now been on hold for an hour and ten minutes to be exact. I called four different times from another phone to ask that someone please let her know I'm still on hold in case she forgot. Katy just transfers me again and again four times and said there phone lines allow for more then one call to be passed through so they should hear it ring and answer. (It was to hard to go or send someone else down stairs to say hey phone line.. takes a minute to walk down stairs)! Four transfers still nothing. I called asked to speak to a manager expressed my frustration to Debbie who answered she took my name and number called me back within ten minutes and answered my question. The customer experience today is totally uncalled for. I'm at work which makes this even more of a frustration to be on hold for over an hour. Horrible customer service! Unacceptable! read more

We joined this Y for use of the pool and associated facilities only, so that's what I'm going to focus on in this review. Well, first of all, the parking lot is stupid. It's a long shotgun style lot that fills at 6:30, so you keep driving further and further back in hopes of finding a spot and when you can't, there's no turnaround point so you get to Austin Powers 30-point-turn your way out of it, all while clueless soccer moms stack up behind you and you can't even get out. Fun stuff. The locker rooms really leave a lot to be desired. The Ott YMCA has a swim team that finishes up at 6pm and heaven forbid if you're in the locker room at the same time as them. Water. Everywhere. Candy wrappers, shampoo bottles, trash, you name it. Everywhere. You can pick up a pool schedule at the front desk, but don't believe it. For example, it says Lap Swim is from 5:30am-8:30pm, but that's not true. If you go at the same time that swim team is practicing, they say they keep three lanes open. Try 0. Goosegg. Or one lane. They have another pool, the north pool, which is four lanes. According to the schedule, it's also open all day. False. I've been going to the Y for a year and have NEVER seen it open or anyone swimming in it (except pigeons). It's totally green and nasty. When I do swim in the main pool, it's always a fun experience of hairballs and bandaids. Enter at your own risk. Some of the lane markers are also missing the plastic disc pieces and have been replaced with foam noodle pieces. Seriously? Anyway, we're probably going to be looking into city pool memberships soon- we've complained about lack of lanes and no north pool multiple times (as have other people- we overheard the lifeguard meeting one day), but they don't really seem to care to actually do anything about it. For the time being, I'll just put on the big girl panties and deal. read more

I am in Tucson for the winter months. The Ott YMCA is a facility I try to use 6-7 days a week. My experience with staff has been excellent. My goal is to stay in shape best I can. I think this is the 1st YMCA in town. It has the indoor pool. Lots of cardio machines and sauna. The place is handy and convenient. There is a strong strange smell (not chlorine) smarting in the lobby. read more

When I told the Administration, they told that it is because of the construction outside? I think they should have some Type of Deterrent to stop the mice from coming in the building. RJ and Joanna have completely changed the way this place feels and make it feel completely uncomfortable and makes patrons feel unwelcome and restricted on happiness and fun. Not even due to policy changes or rules, but just general attitude and how things are handled with members. Rude and abrupt and without reasoning when enacting the "discipline". Used to feel like a family, now feels like a low security prison. read more

I used to work here as a lifeguard, trust me it was the worst job I have ever had. The management was a joke, the facility was a safety hazard, and the staff and patrons were both flat out miserable. my boss wrote me up once for closing the pool down because of heavy rain and lightning, if you've ever been to any pool you'd know you have to clear it when there is lightning out, especially when its nine miles away, it was just ridiculous. when it comes down to the pool itself it is completely unsanitary the chlorine on a lot of days was at a .5 which is one of the lowest levels, there clumps of hair just floating in the pool that stay there for weeks and its not like the staff can do anything about it cause our equipment such as our vacuums were broken, and it stayed like this the whole time I was there. read more

After a very long time member of a local gym that recently canceled classes for more child care facilities, I was looking for something not so intimidating. After much research, decided to check out the Y. Smaller than most gyms; however, its clean, there's plenty of equipment, and it isn't overran with weight lifters. I would like more paper towel dispensers to encourage people to clean the machines after use, and more opportunities for classes at night. Otherwise, I am pretty happy with the switch. read more

I'm a big fan of the Y in general - have a membership back home and try to visit Y's when I travel to get a workout. It is amazing the differences between Ys. I have to say I was sadly disapointed with the state of affairs at this Y. The building is run down, dark and smells funny. I hate say that about such a good organization overall. The women's locker rooms and private showers smelled like urine...the pool had a great deal of debris and was very warm. Anyway I'll check out another Tucson Y tomorrow and hope to find it in better condition. On the up side the staff was friendly. read more

I just went for the gym part of the Y. It was horrible. A lot of cardio equipment but they didn't have a pull up bar and no kettle bells. This gym could be a lot better if they put some more money in to the gym rather than the pool. read more

If only there was a way to give this place no stars. I been going to the YMCA for over a month now as a guest with my friend. She has been paying extra for a guest over two years now. Today when I walked in the girl at the front desk said that I would have to buy a membership because she use all her guest passes. It's unprofessional that she always been bring a guest for years and she was never inform about the change of policy. Confirmed the manager and he didn't do anything. People including my friend have been bring up plenty of complaints and none of them have been address. Staff members are very rude and unprofessional I wish they cared more about there clients, not just the money they bring into the place. read more

I have used this gym for the pool, the playground, the daycare, the workout classes and there are many good things and some really awful things. The worst is that when I have complained, I have been ignored. My daughter and I love the playground and the daycare but I need a good workout and my favorite class has been moved to a room where it is dangerous to dance on the floor and could cause serious injury and when complained about it I was told it was fine, It's not fine. I have no clue what the others are talking about. I drive extra miles to get away from my local Y which is just like Jodi describes here. Except Ott is completely different. I love it here. Yes, it's well attended, so choose wisely, however, even during peak, I can get equipment at the gym. No kettlebells, brah, you'll have to go to a private gym for that, but this place is well lit, with lots of light and windows, it's really a nice gym. The basketball courts are nice, the pool is gorgeous. Is it perfect? No. Is it just for my own use? No. Is it for the professional athlete? Probably not. But short of that, I have no complaints. The whiners on this review site are very misleading. You want misery? Go to the Lighthouse YMCA in Tucson; you'll be back to Ott and never say another whiny word, I promise! read more

The Ott Family YMCA is amazing! If you approach a staff member with a problem, they will bend over backwards to fix it for you, or help make the y work for you. The front desk staff is so friendly and cheery in the morning, I feel very comfortable leaving my 16m old twins in childwatch knowing they will be well cared for, and I know I will get a fantastic work out in Hillary's classes every morning. I have been a member of other Ys around the country, and the Ott Family YMCA is a true gem! I guess I can see how others can not like the equipment or the older building, but you have to remember you are joing more than a gym... Parking does get crowded and members do drive way to fast in the parking lot, but if you know this going in, get there a few minutes before the rush and go slow and look both ways in the parking lot- it's no different than any other lot. read more

As a previous employee, I would never recommend the OTT. Any other branch would be better than this one. Granted, not everything is terrible. The facility is decent, the events are awesome, and some of the staff are awesome. But the childcare department is terrible (I worked there). The managers are corrupt, and most donated money ends up 'missing'. They were changing our time sheets without our consent. You could never get anything done because upper management would always say 'it costs too much'. We constantly received grants yet we were never told about them, and that money would also end up 'missing'. The place is corrupt and run terribly. read more
