The J has everything you need and there is always something going on! It has been a staple in our kids lives. They know so many of the staff who say hi by name. Personally, i use the J for the Sunday men's bball league and community pool. I look forward to enjoying many more years there. read more

Great facilities and reasonable day-pass deals. I love their steam room and hot tub, and the desk attendants are friendly and don't hate their job like some of the other gyms in Tucson with Gen Z employees. As for the cons, the sauna is sometimes out of order. It's been off and on all summer. Also, I will say that some of the older people at this place don't understand gym etiquette and will swipe your equipment before you're done if you turn your back for a second. The trainers are somewhat distracting as well. Some are good and know what they're doing, but they're unreasonably loud when speaking with their clients. Others are quiet and polite but don't offer great training; one guy had his older, frail client ripping down half reps on the lat pull down machine like he was 14 years old and trying to impress his friends. Overall, a good experience with a few hang ups. read more

As a recent Tucson Transplant, the Tucson J has become one of the most meaningful places in our family's life. As a parent and grateful community member, I continue to be impressed by the care, professionalism, and heart that make this place so special. Our experience with the Early Childhood Education program for the past three years has been outstanding. As a parent, the most important thing is trust, and we have real trust in the teachers and leaders. The staff know the children, care about their growth, communicate with families, and create a warm, nurturing environment where kids feel safe, supported, and excited to come each day. The care is high-quality, thoughtful, robust, and flexible, which matters so much for working families and families with different needs. I also deeply appreciate the J's broader commitment to inclusion, especially its programming for individuals with disabilities and families who benefit from extra support. That is one of the things that makes the J feel like more than a gym, preschool, camp, or community center. It is a place that works hard to create belonging. The facilities are excellent and very well maintained. The campus is especially fun in the summer, with the pool, splash pad, camp programming, sports fields, tennis courts, fitness center, classrooms, art spaces, and community gathering areas all working together. It feels like a true community campus where people of all ages can learn, play, connect, and feel welcome. No organization is perfect, but I have a lot of confidence in the people leading the J and in the direction of the community. The J is part of my silver sneakers program and here's the situation there. It's a lovely facility. New equipment, beautiful pool, tennis courts and pickleball. When snowbirds are here you can't really get into classes ( most are great) unless you set alarms for yourself and sign up a couple of days ahead. The place skews older and I although there are high school kids there in the afternoons it's not age diverse. Plus side is it's very forgiving and a great place to start weight lifting and more. There are paid programs for that and I think that would be worth it. I belong to a few other places so it's not a problem. I really like yin yoga there and trx . If this is going to be your main place you will be frustrated. read more

Okay... how did I NOT know this place existed?! That's exactly what I was thinking the first time I stepped foot onto the JCC. I discovered the Tucson Jewish Community Center after they hosted the Hot Cocoa Run 5K (hands down one of the funnest, most vendor-packed races I've ever done ), and let me tell you--walking into the JCC feels like stepping into a whole other world. This place is HUGE and has everything.They gifted a week pass in our swag bags from 5k and I fully leaned in--and I'm so glad I did. First off, the community + programming here is next level. I got to participate in pottery and ceramics classes (SO fun and surprisingly legit), and I love that they partner with local creatives and groups. It gives the whole place a collab, community-driven feel that I'm always looking for. On the fitness side--they're not playing around. I took multiple classes, and their cycle class (aka performance ride ) was actually really solid. Great energy, great programming. I also hit a strength-based class that delivered, and the gym floor itself is super clean, spacious, and not overcrowded (major win). The crowd is also refreshingly diverse in age, which I loved--it truly feels inclusive. And can we talk about the Cafe at the J... because YES. Tons of vegan options , actually flavorful, and super affordable. Not your typical "gym cafe" situation at all. Beyond that, this place is basically a mini campus--tennis, pools, art spaces, events, rentals, and even traditional Jewish baked goods (fresh bread, hello ). They also host a TON of events--like so many it's hard to keep up--so definitely check their calendar because there's always something happening. Overall, I'd absolutely go back. Whether you're going for fitness, arts, community events, or just to explore something new in Tucson--this place is a whole experience. read more

I joined this new year '26 January to start tai chi classes & ride the state of the art" exercise equipment . Big complex something for everyone ! My son played basketball here years ago , 2 big indoor gyms . He went to basketball camps with Jason Terry u of az legend & nba all star, unforgettable. The modern building looks the same but the new exercise equipment amazing . ( matrix& more) The one stand up bike at my other gym has been down for weeks, months sadly , but the matrix bike here is incredible . It offers 3D visuals that you can choose an Vitual vacation ride ; Tues in Baniff Alberta , today Maui ! THIS IS A SUPER LONG REVEIW, BUT YOU NEED TO READ BEFORE CONSIDERING APPLYING OR ENROLLING YOUR CHILDREN This place is extremely bigoted and not as accepting towards people as they advertise to be. 1. If you are looking for a place to work or for childcare, avoid JCC at all costs. Chances are you will get hired but if they are overstaffed, and they probably will be, they will find any excuse to get rid of you unless your family is wealthy and are valued members they can't afford to loose their precious money. 2. The summer camp has an inclusion program which is absolutely fantastic, but staff members are not properly trained to deal with behaviors some special needs kiddos are prone to have. I attended a week long training before working with them and not once did they go over any tips or measures for handling difficult behaviors. I have worked with special needs kids for 6+ years and was criticized for letting a child with autism "avoid being part of a group." If they had taken the time to actually listen to what I was saying to him, they would have noticed I was trying to settle an overstimulated child. I guess they want kids to stay with their groups no matter what, even if a meltdown disrupts the whole group. Inclusion programs are wonderful, but if you are not providing kids the support and accommodations they need, they are not going to be successful. 3. if you have any type of disability or medical accommodation, don't even bother with them. I was pregnant during the time I was supposed to be working with them. I told my supervisor, Robin Kelly and only Robin Kelly about my pregnancy. I told her I would probably take bathroom breaks, be sitting a bit more, and would had a few upcoming appointments. I even asked if the kid I was going to be paired with would be ok being left in his group with camp counselors if I needed to step away. I was told this was all absolutely fine. 4 days later, I'm being let go without notice. Reasons being stated that I was always leaving the group, never knew where my camper was, and some BS about always being on my phone. (Still waiting for the email with surveillance that proves this claim.) They also made up a bunch of stuff to stop me from getting unemployment. As far as I'm concerned, the JCC owes me six weeks of unemployment. 4. The staff: I could go on and on about the type of people they hire. Most of them seem to know each other, having grown up together at the JCC. But the highly privileged backgrounds I noticed even the kids were from, has turned these adults into the most inconsiderate, judgmental, bigoted, and gossipy adults you will ever meet. Most of them will never know the struggle of going to bed hungry or having to go without certain hygiene items. I would try so hard to connect with my "co workers" only to be met a turned up nose. And tell me ROBIN, how everyone, including campers seemed to know about my pregnancy when you were the only staff member who I told. I know I was obviously pregnant during the time I worked there. I wonder if everyone knows everyone's disabilities. Oh wait, there is no one there with disabilities because JCC refuses to accommodate medical needs. 5. Staff are extremely rough with kids. During my short time there, I witnessed young preschool aged children being jerked around by their arms when they refused to stand in line. I witnessed another staff member scream in the face of a little girl to "stop crying" and "act her age" when she was having an emotional breakdown. She's four, she is acting her age. But again, if staff were properly trained they would know this. But then again, if the place is being ran by people who grew up there, I guess it's not their fault. Probably grew up with the same abuse. And yes, I did express my concerns to my supervisor and was told they would be "looked into." In conclusion, the JCC seems to be all about their image and making money. If you are to no value to them, they will not hesitate to get rid of you. There's more to life than image and any decent human being would know no company is perfect. There's always room for improvement and the JCC definitely needs some. read more

Excellent excellent facility, after school program and swim team! During our last year in Tucson we had 3 kids in 3 different schools spread apart in opposite directions. We needed a solution for school pick ups and were so glad to learn that JCC did pick ups from the 2 schools our boys were enrolled in. The afterschool program was something our boys looked forward to. They made friends with kids from various schools around town. There were many activities and time for free play. They loved it. I had our sons enrolled in swim lessons at the J for a while. The great thing is, I did not have to personally take them to the lessons... the afterschool program staff would make sure that they were there for the lessons which made things so much easier for me! It was all very seamless. They even had homework help, which we took advantage of on a weekly basis. Eventually, all three of my children got accepted to swim for the JCC swim team where they learned how to swim all 4 strokes competitively. Our kids loved Coach Marika and Coach J! They were trained so well that they are now swimming for our local team in Honolulu! We are not Jewish, but I always felt welcome at the J. I had friends who were surprised that we joined the J as non-Jewish people. I guess the name makes it seem like you need to be Jewish to join? It's such a well run facility where the staff know your kids by name. My children were safe and very well taken care of. I was thankful that my children were taught about the Jewish culture and religion. They got to learn about various Jewish values, events, and were even mindful about not bringing pork products to the facility we were guests at. And they always begged me to buy challah bread on Fridays :) read more

For an organization claiming "We serve more than 10,000 people from all walks of life who come to the JCC to grow, play, learn, and relax," they are extremely bigoted. They have a long waiting list and obviously can "pick and choose" their clients. After waiting 6 months on their waiting list, unanswered calls and unanswered messages, I was finally able to talk to a person...only to be told that my daughter was NOT a good fit. Wow the JCC has so much going on! I've been lucky enough to attend two of their cooking classes, both were taught by Jaime Lawhorn. The classes I attended were cinnamon rolls, cookies, and pie and then another one that focused solely on pie! I had a great time at each and went home with lots of goodies and great pointers. Their demonstration kitchen is small, so at both classes we did some hands on and some hands off stuff. The JCC has a beautiful facility and their gym looks incredible from the outside view. They offer all sorts of events and classes for the Tucson community. We are lucky to have such a great community gathering place here in Tucson. I have been here several times over the past 4-5 years. In fact, my partner held a domestic partnership commitment ceremony in the courtyard in 2012 before it was legal to marry same sex couples. I remember thinking back then what a lovely outside area for an outdoor wedding or even a tea party. We came last month for a recital and this past weekend for a conference. This facility is a lovely venue for conferences, weddings, receptions, bat/barmitzvah meetings, or any large get together. They offer many rooms some of which have the view of the sizable courtyard with real grass! And benches. If you were to walk to the back of the center, it leads to the outside where there are lap pools both inside and out. There's a well equipped gym facility upstairs, even a preschool that they offer, and there are tennis courts where I saw some girls taking lessons. I hope to come back for another conference or recital performance soon. Just let it be known, this is a kosher community. As a result, there is no mixing of meat and dairy if you bring or serve any meals. read more

It took a pandemic for me to write this. VERY business minded When I reached out for their comments- they reminded me they had a great reputation& referee me to their great rep when it comes to care for tiny humans, they are not centered in emotional intelligence& the communication from the director, Joline, definitely, HUGELY reflects that tone. I tried to send my son there for 8 weeks, 2 days a week, 4 hrs/ daily- I should have noticed the red flags when i found myself cleaning the cubicles the 1st Wk he was there- he was consistently sick Dropping him off& cleaning all the other kids noses on the playground& having "teachers" act like that was such a luxury that a 1 yo should know to ask for his/ her nose to be wiped should have been another red flag- also they were telling the kids that should say thank you for having basic hygiene taken care of.. HINDSIGHT IS ACTUALLY 2020 - I repeatedly addressed my concerns to the classroom teachers, the director & even billing person when the refused to stop charging my card My concerns were met w- everything's fine, WE HAVE A GREAT REP Also the director herself told me the "your son had many pairs of extra of socks in his cubby- when they sent him home in JANUARY W NO socks!!?? the teachers told me- he said he didn't wear socks (in freezing weather) I guess the "teachers" haven't learned 12 - 36 mo don't speak completely what they mean yet The saddest thing is, the real reason they blew off all my concerns is that we had a scholarship- off all the places in the world- the jcc should be the last place to discriminate against mothers w concerns for hygiene & wellness- Joline did respond that the class ratio is smaller- hopefully they can actually wipe the noses of 2 yr old as they need, instead of.. not responding appropriately to the needs of tiny humans So many red flags- I reached out to see if the pandemic had educated read more

tl;dr: The JCC's Early Childhood Education staff create a genuine and positive environment for our child. Add tot hat, a phenomenal gym with high capacity area and loads of outdoor and indoor activities for a fairly reasonable price. The Tucson JCC really proved itself as an invaluable resource during the pandemic but it was a top-notch place well before that. The ECE is staffed with caring and kind people that made for a really well-rounded and good experience. Kids have opportunities for learning different languages, sports and swimming. The summer programs are super busy as well. I use the gym 4-5 days a week: it's a serious gym with multiple press benches, pullup bars, a wide assortment of dumbbells and loads of cardio equipment. The pool, splash pad and child wading pool are professionally managed and well maintained. Overall, a fantastic place whose leadership team clearly works hard to be a great resource for Tucson. read more

For a place that is "highly respected" for their inclusion programs, it's kind of disappointing they don't treat their employees the same way. I was scheduled to work for their summer inclusion program. I also happened to be pregnant during this time and have what is known as a "hidden" disability. The job paired me with a special needs camper and I was to support him throughout his day in camp. I've been working this same type of job for 6 years in a school setting so I have a pretty good idea what I'm doing and how to manage certain behaviors. Before the program started, I pulled the director aside and told her about my condition and physical limitations due to being pregnant. I told her I would need restroom breaks, need to be sitting a bit more than usual, and would be a bit slower moving. I also told her about my hearing loss and auditory processing and that it takes me a couple days to get in the rhythm of things. She told me none of those should be an issue. 4 days later, I was pulled aside and fired without warning. I was told they didn't like me leaving the group to use the restroom, even though I TOLD them I would need frequent breaks. They didnt like how long it took me to get from place to place and my inability to keep up with the group, even though I TOLD them I would be moving a bit slower. They told me I never knew where the camper I was paired with was (not true), I didn't "handle him" correctly when he eloped. I "let him" take to long of a break from the group, example they gave is that they saw us sitting outside the room the group was in. They SAW us. Have they stopped to listen for two seconds, they would have heard me de escalating a very overstimulated autistic child. When asked why I was being let go without any warning, I was simply told "there is no time to coach people, I should already know what I'm doing. But upon my conversation with HR, which was recorded by the way, had the guy admitting the counselors walking around sole purpose was to coach people. And after holding the same position working with special needs in inclusion programs for SIX YEARS, I think I know what I'm doing. I asked if there was another position available, I was told they were already overstaffed. Ah, there it was. It's easier to get rid of the pregnant single mom and bring in the inexperienced 18 year old than to accommodate what they said they had no issue with. And don't even get me started on the people working there. Most people employed there grew up at the J and their families are very well known. This creates a very cliquy and gossipy atmosphere. I describe myself as quite charismatic and will make friendly conversations with anyone, but any efforts to do so with my so called co workers lead to them being very standoffish and turning their noses. Also, how did staff and campers know about my pregnancy when all I have told at that point was the director? Seems like the director engages in gossip as well. Very unprofessional and a horrible way to conduct your employees. I would not recommend anyone work there or even enroll their children here, especially if they have special needs as they will be paired with someone who has no experience working with special needs. read more

Initially thought this is a good place for my kid. Recently a series of issues came up and I was simply shocked how these were handled. Assistant teacher was rude and pulling kids. Complained to Joline and she said this was not true. No action was taken. My kid came home saying she was hit in the head by a teacher. She told me the name, hair color, and wearing eyeglasses. I ask Joline about this and she said this would affect that teacher significantly and she would be miserable. Excuse me?? This is such a ridiculous place. There is a woman with her shoes on and 3 of her children have shoes on and she is letting them play all over the play place. Also her children are running around with handfuls of change and dropping it everywhere. Little kids play here. First off the shoe thing is disgusting and the change thing is not safe for the almost 2 year old I have here who will probably find one of those dropped quarters and try to swallow it. Great community center. We love the JCC and really enjoy the staff, the facilities and all of the events! I like working out at the fitness center and keeping up to date on the events calendar. So far the JCC has made our move to Tucson better and helped us connect with other people. We are looking forward to the Challah event next week and have attended some lectures in the community room. I doubt the men's locker room ever gets cleaned!- the screws are rusty on the fixtures in the spa area and are in dire need of replacing The carpet is dirty and the lockers should be wiped down/sanitized hourly not occasionally. We were in a pinch and the JCC saved us. We had to plan a last minute work event that needed to take place off site, be nice enough for a high ranking public official and accommodate 100 people. JCC to the rescue! Seriously, they were able to set us up in the Heritage Room and cater the event as well with under two weeks notice. The Heritage Room is lovely and we were lucky enough that the walls were adorned with gorgeous western artwork on display for a month long fundraiser for Empire Ranch. The catering manager, Gwen suggested the menu after I told where the general direction we were taking and set a gorgeous spread, matching the overall colors of the paintings in the room by using fabric and serving plates. This was my first time at the JCC and the place is incredible. I saw lots of families and children using the facility for childcare, fitness and other classes. What a great place! read more

We joined the JCC based on recommendations from several different people and it does NOT disappoint!! I'm just mad we waited so long to check it out! Not only is the facility large and beautiful but everyone is so welcoming and friendly. We use the gym facility often. It's got free weights, TRX, cardio machines and nautilus equipment along with a stretch area, spin class room, and several other private dance and yoga rooms. The locker room is spacious and everything is always really clean (which means a lot in a gym). It's got a ton of classes you can sign up for along with personal trainers - the litany of services you could expect to find at any other expensive, chain gym (sauna, jacuzz, steam room). While we haven't visited the pool area, it sure does look big from the gym. Oh, and they have tennis courts and a splash pad next to a large outdoor play area for kids. One of the big reasons we joined is because we need after school care for my 2nd grader. The J Care After School program picks him up from school and brings him to the facility, where they have a private room for J Care. They also have a computer room and a HUGE indoor playground. They watch movies, listen to music, play sports - you know, typical kid fun stuff. My son has only been going for a few days but he really likes it. Plus the ratios are really good (of kids to non-kids). The facility also has a ballroom, a cafe, a library, and several small meeting rooms. Oh, and the gym has a babysitter! If you want to take your kids to the JCC ECE or work at the ECE, be careful. There's some horrible employees there, and if you go and complain to the ECE director "Joline" she won't care. She will just pull them aside or won't even do anything about it. I know this because i've seen it before. There's some great teachers that deserve more attention from the directors but she mostly pay attention to the one that she likes, and she has favorites and treats them better. It took her awhile to fire this one assistant teacher "Irene" she was HORRIBLE to the kids, but acts fake when someone comes around and everyone at the ECE knows this. I seen her grab kids roughly, and yell at the kids and her employees. It took them awhile to let her go, just because they seen it on "camera" and know that they needed to let her go, but WAITED until they can't hide the fact that she would abuse these kids. So beware because if you want a place to trust, don't go here. They don't care, they just want money and good look good for Quality first. A lot of teachers also talk bad about their students, especially upstairs. read more

After quitting my old gym that shall not be named but can be found in previous Yelp reviews, I was on the search for something that filled one need and one need only - CONVENIENT CLASSES. While Bally (oops!) was just fine in terms of quality and location, their class schedules were too inconsistent or at bad times and quite frankly, I have grown to hate the elliptical. I looked at almost every fitness center in town before realizing that the JCC is just a 5-10 minute drive from my house. What's more? They offer more than 100 classes a week, and several of them align beautifully with my schedule. Zumba, Body Pump, Pilates, you name it, they have it! The employees are WAY nicer than the typical gym staff. The weight machines are newer and nice to use. As far as price, it isn't as cheap as some of the bigger chain gyms, but I think that for the classes alone it's worth it. I've also heard that they offer a sliding scale for those who can't afford their rates. Definitely worth looking into! read more

This is one of the top community centers in the State of Arizona. They have an excellent sports and fitness center. The have a top notch Early Childhood Education Program and out standing Arts and Cultural events and exhibits. The Tucson International Jewish Film Festival is also presented there. I just can't say enough about what a great place it is for everyone. And you don't have to be Jewish to join or attend any of the events.
