We belonged to the Tucson JCC when our kids were younger, preschool, Jcare, camps, & basketball . Always top notch people who worked there. And my son was not easy! They were great! But my husband and I didn't do many activities then. Hadn't belonged for about 10 years and came back, this time not for my kids, but to play tennis and take classes. OMG...best facility, best instructors, best choices by far for what Tucson has to offer. Unbelievably friendly people work there! In Stephanie's baby/infant room- These teachers will put your child in their crib and let them cry for half an hour or more without attempting to console them (patting their backs, rocking them, rubbing their chest, etc) and tells other staff not to bother because "they just cry all the time." Meanwhile, there are four other babies crying as well for the same reason. These teachers will place your child on their backs on the floor for hours at a time. Once, I attempted to comfort a crying child who had been on the floor by propping their head on my lower calf and patting their chest. For five minutes or so, they were calm and happy. Then, I was told I shouldn't do that because they "just cry all the time anyway. You can tell they're an only child, and we just can't have them getting used to being held all the time." I explained that they've been upset (both in their crib and on the floor) for 45 minutes and they've calmed down now that I put their head on my leg, and the lead teacher shrugged and said "that's too bad," so I reluctantly and very sadly placed their head back on the floor and they began crying again. These interactions (or lack thereof) have been ongoing for a long time. These children are not getting their most basic needs met. Avoid this room at all costs. read more

This gym is amazing. Great views, nice equipment, friendly people. There's a pool open year round, lots of programs, sports, classes, truly something for everyone. But I really love the tennis courts and the workout floor. read more

We have left this place. We stopped being members and handing over money every month- it was not worth it. Some of the facilities are nice but a lot of the staff are terrible, unprofessional, and rude! I actually felt uncomfortable going here, and "members" should not be made to feel that way. Just not worth it at all. See my original review below: ORIGINAL REVIEW: Well I'm disappointed. The tour was great. Everyone was so nice. The gym is decent, they have lots of classes like Zumba, the pool is big, they have a splash park, there are lots of community events, they are supposed to have a great ECE (early childhood education) program etc. etc. Seemed wonderful. So we joined. And now a few weeks later, I'm definitely disappointed. CONS: Very expensive! And then on top of that they nickel and dime you for almost everything :-( The ECE isn't that great. The teacher and assistants don't pay close attention to the kids, from what I observed. Security around the kids doesn't seem good-- it actually seems lax. People don't respond to my calls, emails, or messages. I'm surprised by how many people who work there have not gotten back to me about things. Overall it is OK and does have a lot to offer, but since I've had some negative experiences already and it's been just a few weeks, I can't give it 5 stars. :-( So disappointed in this place. If you're looking for just a gym I'd recommend Chuze (they were great and a very affordable price!). And if you're looking for daycare, I'd recommend elsewhere too (as of this moment anyway). read more

For the last few years I thought it was worth paying the extra to go the gym at the J -- supporting a good cause, and all... But the center TV in the workout area is ALWAYS on FOX News. I asked to please change it to something non-political. Or put MSNBC on another one of the side TV's to give some balance. Asked staff several times and was told that FOX News had to be on all the time because it's what "the people'' want. "What people?", says I. I'm a person too, aren't I? "Sorry. Can't change it." Who says so? The staff? The management? The members? Who is it who insists that they need to have Glenn Beck screaming at me while I try to work out? Do they think my blood pressure isn't high enough already? After 2 e-mails went unanswered and staff refused to change the channel -- repeatedly -- I quit and found a happy new workout home at Bally's for half the price, and a wide range of TV stations to choose from. So much for my fantasies of a progressive, a-political, welcoming Jewish environment. Yes, they might have good day care -- can't comment on that. But be damn sure they aren't raising your toddler to be a little fascist. The management is apparently 3 steps to the right of Genghis Khan. PS -- I'd be interested to know if FOX News is still the "must watch" TV in the gym. After quitting, I was assured by the management they would change, but don't know if that's really happened or not. read more

This place is awesome, love the community feel and activities. I use the gym regularly and the child care is top notch. Also the kids daycare is excellent. The staff is always friendly and I like that they have security consistantly patrolling the grounds. Indoor play area is the best for when the wheather is less than desirable. Only complaint is splash park area seems to be in need of repair and some anti splip measures, but all in all outside play area is great too. read more

This is a great all around place. They have an amazing early childhood education program that goes all the way from 6 weeks - K. The campus is great, there is a huge gymnasium for multiple basketball games, clay courts (it's kind of an astro turf), great pool that's heated year round and an array of fitness classes and equipment. They will be undergoing a remodel and hope to see some of the equipment updated and that point. All in all , a great place for a family membership. read more

The J is not a state or federally licensed educational facility. This is important to know because the laws that prevent your or your child's information being shared or sold without your permission or knowledge do not apply. I found this out the hard way. The frontline staff are kind enough, but the administration creates policies and procedures that put children at risk. One of my children suffered 3 head injuries in a week. When I removed my kids, I was punished by having my other child's information sold (the 3rd party sent me a copy of what had been released to them). State governing agencies apologized for the J's Reprehensible behavior and explained that I should have never trusted The J to begin with. read more

We put on a yoga rave at the JCC. What a fabulous event we had! Everything went smoothly and they were really great to work with. Its a great space and we are looking forward to seeing how the children's yoga program goes. I love the JCC. Everyone is super friendly and accommodating. There are many convenient classes and the equipment is great. I never really ever have to wait for a machine. Heated lap pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, etc. Great community center! read more

I have to agree with previous reviewers - the JCC is amazing! I love how much they have to offer: from cardio equipment to weights, classes, etc. They have childcare available (both as "babysitter" and as full daycare) and offer so many activities: lectures, rotating artwork collections, sculpture garden, etc etc etc. So much to do! I almost *almost* wanted to give 4 stars just because the price (a bit pricey), but considering all that you get, I had to give 'em the whole 5 stars read more

We just joined the JCC a week ago and have already used it more than we did our previous gym. Though it's under construction right now, everything is still useable. I took a power yoga class this evening and the instructor was excellent! I love being able to exercise in so many different capacities, including the lap pool, tennis courts, and various group fitness classes. read more

There are so many wonderful aspects of joining the JCC. Fortunately, it is good to get old and enjoy the few good benefits of aging. No. 1 is having Silver Sneakers. The "J" is like my second home. Stay well and make new friends. Not to mention keeping your bodies in tip top shape. The many choices of classes they offer keep getting better and better. The fun for me begins with Tuesday's dance party led by Rhina G. an amazing energized lady who is a joy to be around. . Also the Zumba classes with Brenda are cardio as well as choreographed with finesse and class. Can't get enough of them. Thanks JCC for being a part of my life. read more

We have been bringing our child here for the past 3 years and it has slowly been going downhill. The turnover rate for teachers is extremely high and you can tell a lot of the faculty isn't too happy with their jobs. I don't see much structure in the classes and it seems more like a babysitting service then getting my child prepared for kindergarten. I plan on moving my child to a daycare that follows a curiculum and cares about the children more. If you are looking for a good daycare, this is definitely NOT the place to take your children. While they offer some great health and fitness facilities, their Early Childhood Education program leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the good teachers leave for greener pastures and the Tucson JCC retains the ones that can't make it anywhere else read more

JCC is a good place but their early childhood center is overrated. They have good teachers but a terrible administration. If any problem happens or your child gets bullied, good luck with it. They will not take any action or they will not show any interest in solving anything. If you cross your fingers and hope for the best for your child, then it might be a good place. read more

I have been coming to the TJCC for 25 years now. I have been seeing a tremendous decline in cleanliness and quality of services, in the past few years. The "old" JCC felt like home, while the "improved" JCC lost that feeling for me and people I know. It used to be that I could use the pool any time I wanted and now most of the time I have time to swim, after work weekdays and early in the morning Saturdays, the pool is closed to paying members because of a swim team or a party of some sort. Unfortunately, it seems as I am paying more for less services/value today. read more
