We've used Mutterly love to groom our golden doodle for about 1.5 yrs now. We go consistently every 6-8wk. They never were as good as his old groomer and frequently gave him patchy spots, especially around his legs and neck, but it was never enough to complain about. What motivated me to write this review was just today we pick our boy up from the groomer around 4pm and took him for a walk this evening. It was dark, and we were shocked to see when we came home all 4 of his paws were bloody. They trimmed the nails on all 4 paws past the quick. We called to tell them and to make sure the person who did his nail trimming knew they caused all 4 paws to bleed. The person we spoke with told us it is normal to cut to the quick and keep it short. They said this happens when "we don't keep up with his nails". But he had gone for grooming 6wks ago and walks about 2.5 miles every day. So his nails were not long to begin with. They told us to apply some Kwik stop to his nails and he would be good. They did not offer any compensation. They simply told us the who did his nails "usually does keep them short". I am not a groomer, so I cannot say if this is normal or not from a technical standpoint. I can only say in his nearly 5 years of being groomed, we've never experienced this before, and Mutterly Love seemed pretty convinced it was normal. read more

We have only boarded our " senior " dog here a few times when we could not find a friend to watch him. Cooper is a Cockapoo & is almost 15 years old. He tends to get anxious in certain situations but I am happy to report he did exceptionally well at Mutterly Love. That is a great testament to the friendly, attentive staff. The facility is clean and well run. The best part is you can pay for ur pet to have a bath before you pick them up! Cooper always comes back smelling really good! I would not hesitate, call Mutterly Love today! I promise you your pup will be in good hands. read more

My dog is not easy to groom but these guys do a great job and reasonable prices. I've been coming here for several years and would recommend to anyone read more

We boarded our dog during 4th of July. We asked if our dog could go into a separate area or with smaller size dogs since he was young and shy. The manager was very annoyed with our frequent and said no. The second day we picked him up his chain around his neck had not been removed and had been chewed almost completely off. I asked for explanation and was immediately met with dismissive defensive take no responsibility from the manager. I was even accused of making it up to get free boarding when I never asked for that. I wanted an explanation of what other dog drug my dog around all day or if my dog got caught on something and almost hung himself. I requested the video of where they said they had evidence that the collar had not been damaged there and they wouldn't provide it. Again this was met with accusations of wanting free boarding. I wouldn't recommend anywhere that after defensive rather than investigating what had occurred to avoid any animal from getting hurt. Do not use. read more

Having given Mutterly Love another chance on their boarding services, I am pleasantly surprised that they were much better. My pup came home smelling clean this time and the staff were helpful when we called for updates on our pup while we were away. The grooming is still consistently well done and we will continue to use Mutterly Love for our dog's excessive haircutting needs. read more

Good indoor doggie daycare for a few hours if you're vacationing in the Michigan area and want to visit places that won't allow a dog. We brought my boyfriend's dog here for a few hours while we explored the wineries and shops. Being close to 94 made it really easy to drop off the dog and drive north or south. This is an indoor daycare. The space is large enough for the dogs to get exercise, but not necessarily fresh air or running. However, I do think that the caretakers were polite and cared well for my boyfriend's dog. And if it is raining, the dog won't be stuck outside. The staff required vet records, which is good, and asked a lot of questions about the dog's temperament and personality. She also explained where he would be all day, and we felt he was in good care. Fees are reasonable at $3 per hour, but it turns out to be more expensive than daily rates at some other daycare places we have tried. I would recommend this place. 4 stars Last visited: 6/7/13 read more

Our dog was boarded for a week. When we picked her up, you could see her ribs prominently and she didn't act like herself. I had given the staff a bag of several treats that our dog loved. None of the bags were opened. I also gave them two phone numbers of people they could call if she didn't eat as our dog is a finicky eater. I called and checked on her a few times during the week and the staff indicated that everything was fine. read more

I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in them. I leave my dog there for 3 days (he was supposed to be there 4) and made it as simple as possible for them by making individual serving bags of his dry food with all his meds and supplements mixed in and each one labeled with his name and if it was for AM or PM. I then provided them with 4.5 cans of his canned food with instructions to mix 1/2 can with one bag of the premeasured food. Today I got home and when I unloaded his stuff out of the car I discover 4 unopened cans of dog food. Did they think I tossed the cans in there for the hell of it?? What did they do with the 1/2 can I included for Wednesday night? Did they feed him that or just throw it out?? That's PRESCRIPTION food. It's NOT cheap and he's on it for a reason. Basically they put him on a starvation diet for 3 days. I can't believe how irresponsible they are. Now I have to wonder (since I wasn't there to see and he can't TELL me) did he get the Kongs I paid for or did they just skip those too? My poor dog was so hungry when we got home he immediately went into the house, sat down in front of his dish and CRIED. He NEVER does that. After the wonderful recommendation I had about them I am absolutely livid. I will never recommend them to anyone and will tell anyone who asks how they tried to starve my dog. I'm SO glad I picked him up a day early. Wow. Update: Crystal called and apologized. Admitted it was their fault as I did put on the intake that he was to have 1/2 can mixed in with his dry food twice a day and they missed that. Not sure how they could since they had to get the ziplock of dry food out twice a day and the cans were IN the same sack and that doesn't explain what happened to the 1/2 can I brought for Wednesday night (and why they would think he was only to get the canned the ONE night) but, they did refund my money. Not sure that makes up for literally starving my dog for 3 days. I'm just glad I decided to go home a day early and that my dog wasn't underweight to begin with (not overweight either, just right). He seems to be ok if a little more clingy than usual. I may or may not give them another chance. I haven't decided yet. I know I have two friends who think the place is just great but, really, we don't know what goes on as we aren't there and the dogs aren't talking. read more

Although my cat,Prissy, has since passed away I felt compelled to compliment the owner and staff. Prissy wasn't a warm and cuddly kind of cat ...more like she thought she was a lion, very growly showing teeth and scratching a lot. She needed grooming often as she was a long haired Mane Coon Cat. They bathed her, blew her dry and made her lovely to look at and even trimmed her nails! Brave people over there! She actually go used to going there. So if you need to groom a animal that has challenges Vicki's Mutterly Love is the place to go! read more

I called to get my dog squeezed in for nail clippings. Loui is my mom's dog but they were meeting us up here for Memorial day weekend. Crystal who took Loui is so sweet. I told her that Loui is blind so they took extra care of me. He got clipped by Justin who did an amazing job! I had to call and ask for their names to be sure. My mom said Loui looked so good and he was so happy. Being blind he doesn't like to walk that much anymore so his nails get long quick. Thank you for an amazing job! read more

This place does not have enough supervision and partition for the animals. My dog was returned to me with injuries on two occasions.

We've taken our dog here two times for grooming and have been very happy with the results. We live in Illinois but have a summer home in Michigan and after being disappointed with the groomers in our home town, decided to try a place in MI and we're very happy we did. I usually have to "fix" her cuts when she comes back from a groomer appt. but Mutterly Love does exactly what we ask for and she comes home smelling fresh and looking adorable. read more

I use Mutterly Love for grooming for my dogs. They do an excellent job. Very reasonable prices as well. I highly recommend them. Never tried their daycare or boarding, but the place looks nice and is clean. Love the big tv in the lobby that shows the dogs playing in the daycare area. read more

I have a cat and 3 dogs. I brought my dogs/cat for grooming and never had a problem. I boarded my dogs for a week and when I picked them up they smelled of urine and the pillows I left for them to sleep on were soaked with urine. So.. zero stars for boarding. I will never leave my dogs there again. Okay for grooming. read more

May want to consider getting a tour of this place before considering. They have recently started keeping wayyy to many animals there for boarding. I don't care how many staff you have, if you have 70-80 dogs there, there is no way they can get the kind of attention and supervision you pay for, and what your dog deserves. They didn't used to be this way. No longer take my animals there. read more

I have boarded my dog here multiple times and am very happy with them. A longer term stay comes with a free bath and nails. My dog returns clean happy and exhausted from playing all day. You can make a reservation online and they respond quite quickly. A prompt response is pretty rare compared to other services in this area. read more

We love Mutterly love. My dogs go during the summer for day care while we are boating if there's not room on the boat. They always come home super tired and the staff puts up with my barker. They also let my big gentle dog play with the little ones so her smaller sister is more comfortable. They kinda freak out if they're separated. Mutterly love is great, I wish there was one in Chicago too. read more

My little guy has been to Mutterly Love for grooming and boarding for a year and a half, since we moved to Saint Joseph MI. Then a year ago he was diagnosed diabetic and the staff at Mutterly Love have been great! We board him fairly regularly, he is dropped off along with his insulin & syringes and a strict set of instructions and everything has gone well! I am now aware of what a big deal this is after having to board the little guy somewhere else at the last minute and it was a huge disaster that took a couple of weeks to recover from. Thanks Mutterly Love for taking such good care of our special needs little guy!! read more

I've reviewed Mutterly Love before but, I'll update again. I was just so grateful to the staff and owner of this place that I need to share. The staff will work with you when your pets needs change. My old guy passed on this past year, but they took it in stride as he aged. Your dog needs more rest time? They check them to make sure they get the amount of exercise they need! If they look sore, they let them rest away from the other dogs more. Got a newer puppy who's never been boarded before? They teach them the rules. NO BITING, NO HUMPING, NO ILL MANNERS. l left my now ageing lab with them as well as my 7 month old brat boy. He came home calmer, more polite and catching frisbee out of the air! Again, they're clean when you pick them up, their toenails have been trimmed. You can ask for extra things. You give them your dogs medications if needed, they give you back proof that everything your pet needs has been provided. I happily drive over from Kalamazoo to leave my dogs with them! read more

Took my dog to get nails trimmed, he was back there quite a while after they told me I couldn't come back. Once he was returned I noticed they didn't just clip his nails but after I went back in to inquire what they did, i was told they used a Dremmel. Will not be back to this place ever!!! (Only putting one star as the review requires some rating, if there was a negative star that would be my choice!) read more

My dog loves to go here - she is the only pet in the house and is very social - gives her a chance to play and not be alone all day - she gets very excited when we pull into the parking lot. The staff is very animal friendly and they are on top of keeping up with the records of the pets. I like that I don't have to call ahead - we can just drop her off at any time and come get her when we want. They do take the dogs outside on a leash several times a day and they get treats as well. My very active 1 year old dog is getting the exercise she craves all afternoon instead of being alone at home. read more

My previous dog went to Mutterly Love for grooming, she always came back clean and well trimmed, the employees are friendly and know what they are talking about. We are currently taking our puppy to the puppy classes that are offered. Vickie knows what she is teaching and teaches it well. She knows what problem areas certain breeds will encounter and offers solutions to the problem. Cooper May not be getting an "A" in puppy class, but Mutterly Love gets an "A" for customer service! read more

Mutterly Love is a wonderful environment for my dog to burn off extra energy. I drop her off on my extra long days at work. She is eager to play with her friends when i drop her off and she always comes home tired and happy to relax next to me. Other than a few nicks and scrapes, which is normal for canine play, I have had no problems. The staff is very courteous and check my dog in and out quickly if I am running late. I highly recommend this business. read more

My dog has gone there for three years, since she was a puppy. She goes for grooming, daycare and is boarded on occasion. We have never had a problem, nor have I ever seen any problems when I watch the dogs play. My dog is always happy to walk right in. I think is is a wonderful place to socialize the dogs. All the handlers are very friendly too. read more
