    Keeping Polka music alive.

MUSIKFEST IS DA BEST! Free music, tons of alcohol, good foods of all types everywhere, all set in my lovely city of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. If you are somewhat outgoing like myself, you will meet some really cool people and bands and artiest of all types. The last day of the Fest there is a spectacular fire works display which is always a bitter sweet ending to me because although as spectacular as it is, the fire works show marks the end of Musikfest and kinda marks the end of the summer. :( Yelp please don't filter my review, can I at least get one review on the main page?

Debauche! New Orleans cool for a 'Russian Mafia' style band!

This 10-day marathon of musical talent is an impressive array of nonstop music scattered among the streets and in the park/ open spaces of Bethlehem. It is amazing that it is free, aside from the big headliners at one of the stages. They have several stages and hundreds of performers, so there is something interesting for everyone. The talent is overwhelming, and the crowd enthusiasm abounds to meet this musical display. You can park at satellite lots and take a $3 shuttle bus, or find parking somewhere downtown in a garage for $10 or on the street. Bring your MusikFest mug to refill with beer, as these mugs are staples among the attendees. Lines get longer for food and beverage as the day turns to night. The crowds get rowdier because the musical excitement just seems to amp up! Most venues are under tents with plastic seats and some tables. It's an incredibly user and family friendly set-up that is just impressive for a free event. Purchases for food and beverages require tickets- so be sure to get those before standing in line for anything. Plan your time, as there is no way to see everything you'd like with music happening at each venue all day and evening long- with the exception of set changes and sound checks as one performer wraps up and another rolls in. Beware of the food- it is not for the health conscious or dietary restricted folks. They have food like burgers, fish tacos, turkey legs, chicken fingers, Philly cheese steak, fried Oreos and sweets on a stick, fried green beans and pickles, fries, blooming onions, nachos, beef tacos, cheese quesadillas, chicken teriyaki noodles (there is a seemingly veg version but not vegan), southwestern corn on the cob (butter), cotton candy, kettle corn, ice cream, hot dogs, corn dogs and well... You get the picture! Seriously though- go for the music. You will not be disappointed in this slice of Americana on a 10-day musical plate.

Needs a better beer selection and more German food... Musikfest now has two parts. Be sure to get over to the north side to check out the old blast furnaces. it's historical and should be experienced. You can access a commentary on your phone and listen as you observe. This was moving to me. As for the festival, crowded, hot and humid. Thought it would have more and a better selection of German food. If you like Yuengling beer you're in luck, they sponsor the event so you'll be hard pressed to find anything different.

Musikfest is the heart and soul of Bethlehem city since the Bethlehem Steel went down. I grew up in Bethlehem, and attended the past 7 Musikfests, even volunteering at one. We had international travelers every year. Bethlehem is packed during Musikfest, so there is no place to park for free. Park outside of town and take the trolley or be prepared to pay for parking. So much musical variety, there are different sections of the festival, each with a theme. If you have children, Banana Island is the place to take them. Different areas to suite all musical tastes, and the food is to die for. There's even one stand now that sells deep-fried cheesecake on a stick! Don't eat more than one, believe me. :)

What a great place to hang out and hear great music. Especially when the prices are awesome. This is our first time and guarantee will not be the last. The ceiling is great no matter where you're at.

This experience checked off one of those long-standing "I did this thing!" moments for 2025--and…read moreI'm really glad I finally made it happen. I attended PEEPSFEST, held December 30-31 from 3-6 p.m. at the SteelStacks campus in Bethlehem. Tickets are required, with general admission priced at $5, making this a very affordable, family-friendly outing. According to the website, the event features indoor and outdoor fun, live music, PEEPS-themed games and crafts hosted by local nonprofits, interactive shows by the Wildlands Conservancy and the Da Vinci Science Center, and character meet-and-greets. The highlight comes at 5:35 p.m. with the iconic drop of a 400-pound, 4'9" PEEPS Chick, followed by a fireworks display. There were also several thoughtful additions that really stood out. I especially appreciated the PBS39 x PEEPSFEST Friendship Bracelet Creation Station, PEEPS IN THE KITCHEN with Chef Julie of Levy Restaurants, and the sensory-friendly space presented by Good Shepherd Rehabilitation--a wonderful option for guests with sensory sensitivities. Kids 12 and under received a special PEEPS tote bag to collect goodies throughout the event, which was clearly a big hit with families. The event takes place on the SteelStacks campus, and honestly, the setting alone is worth the visit. SteelStacks is the largest revitalized brownfield in the country, spanning 10 acres on the former Bethlehem Steel site. Some quick pre-trip research taught me that for nearly a century, Bethlehem Steel was the economic backbone of the Lehigh Valley and helped build some of the most iconic structures in the U.S., including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Chrysler Building, and parts of the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, Alcatraz, and the Hoover Dam. When the plant closed in 1995, it left behind both a massive industrial footprint and a void in the local economy. Rather than demolishing the site, the community chose preservation and reinvention. Through a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district established in 1999, the area was transformed into what is now a thriving hub for arts, culture, education, and community events. Today, the towering blast furnaces--some over 230 feet tall--stand as a powerful reminder of the city's industrial past. From Furnace "A" (dating back to 1915) to Furnace "E," the site stretches nearly a quarter of a mile and once produced thousands of tons of iron daily. The furnaces were last operational on November 18, 1995, but their presence is anything but forgotten. Visually, the SteelStacks campus is absolutely stunning in a raw, industrial way. Standing in the outdoor space beneath the blast furnaces--especially at night--was nearly overwhelming in the best possible sense. The festive, multicolored uplighting against the massive steel structures added a sense of magic and mysticism that photos don't fully capture. Parking is another bonus: free on-site parking is available in multiple lots along First Street year-round (except during Musikfest). Speaking of which, SteelStacks is also home to Musikfest, the nation's largest free music festival--and I'm already scheming a return visit. While PEEPSFEST itself is definitely geared more toward children, it was still a fun and unique way to mark the transition into a new year. It's not something I need to do every year, but I'm genuinely happy to have experienced it. I'd highly recommend it for families with young children, as there's plenty to do, lots of room to roam, and a safe, well-organized environment. SteelStacks is a powerful example of how a community can honor its past while building something vibrant and meaningful for the future--and PEEPSFEST is just one of many reasons to visit.

It was a bit of a maze to find the parking lot (thankfully, FREE), but after that I had a quiet afternoon enjoying the SteelStacks. One of the suggestions I got was to enjoy the walkway --- which is an elevated path along the side of the ol' steel factory. It's odd to walk by a factory that in its glory days had 100's of workers, to now being visited by tourist in a solace stroll. In any case, it's always great to see the birthing place of the steel that has given us so many iconic US landmarks, i.e., like the Chrysler Building and the Golden Gate Bridge. See - bet you didn't know that! If you're ever around this area, take in this one-of-a-kind location, it needs to experienced to be believed.

Thankfully you can pull up to the hotel and temporarily park there but that can probably accommodate only about half a dozen cars so if it's a busy day, you might end having to lug all your stuff across the street from the garage. The hotel does validate parking which is nice. Breakfast is included which is nice. It does end at 9 AM on weekdays. I thought they had a nice selection of hot foods. There were eggs, bacon bits, sausage, pancakes. My husband went back for more pancakes. There was also hot oatmeal and toppings, not just those cheap instant oatmeal packets. My husband also enjoyed the coffee. Apart from the usual half and half for creamer, they also have oat milk. There was a nice selection of teas for tea drinkers like me. We had a room with a king bed which was fairly spacious. It had a mini fridge, a desk and chair and a sitting area. The drawback about the shower was at the shower "door" didn't actually extend the full length also water squashes everywhere after a shower. My husband also saw an enormous smushed cockroach near the lobby elevator. We arrived relatively late at night due to travel. I called to head to the hotel to let them know that we were going to be delayed and they said to call back if we were even more delayed to avoid being marked as no shows. I was a little taken aback as we had already paid for that night's day and I'd never heard of being marked by a hotel for being a no-show simply for arriving late in the evening. Overall we had a decent stay and would consider staying again. I'm just glad I wasn't the one who saw the smushed cockroach or when it was alive.

Right across the street is a garage where hotel guests park for free with validation. The lobby is wonderful with seating, front desk, breakfast dining area, and an on-site eatery and bar. (The breakfast looked amazing but we can't get up that early.) Pamela and Krishna were exceptional front desk staff that made our stay enjoyable. Our room was large and clean with a great heating and cooling system. There was a problem with the bathroom: The inside door handle was broken. The shower was too small with a strange half-door that even if angled properly, still sent water to the floor. The water remained warm and never got hot. The fitness center isn't much and we passed on the pool and it's milky water. It really looked sickly. Sleeping was great but the major problems occurred on the morning of our departure. Check-out is at noon yet, even with our "do not disturb" sign out, a housekeeper knocked on the door at 10:30 AM while we were sleeping. I think she wanted to make sure we were up to check out on time because she didn't knock on anyone else's door. At checkout, there was no way for me to pick up my girlfriend because six vehicles blocked the small entrance/exit to the property. Even though there's a parking sign for 15 minutes, one SUV remained there for over a half-hour. We will give this property another shot because Hyatt's are usually a step above.
