Very well put together, comfortable bar. Bar tenders are very attentive, and the service has been quick every time I've been here. Pretty solid draft selection. A decent amount of styles, and good beers in each category. Taps rotate somewhat frequently, but don't expect new beers every week. Food is pretty solid. I've had the wings, and the chicken tenders; both have been fantastic. Their wings are the perfect amount of spicy that isn't over the top to burn the taste out of your mouth. Lastly, TRIVIA! Their trivia on Thursday nights is great! Excellent host, good crowd, relatable yet challenging questions. Murphy's is different depending on how busy it is. When its slow. the service is great. when its busy it tends to slow down. It reminds me of my favorite bar in college. It can be loud, and obnoxious and on a different night it can be quiet and a great place to relax. There are many beers to chose from and the menu is pretty standard American Pub Fair. All in all I have only had good times at Murphy's. As for why not a full 5 stars. If they had a pool table, and a Foosball table... then well that would be a different story. read more

We went here for takeout tonight because my 5 year old wanted fish and chips and everywhere else was closed at 8pm on a Sunday night. First of all, they were extremely fast (less than 10 minutes to get two meals ready!). Next, the woman who gave us the food was the nicest person and was so kind to my little boy. Third, I hate fish and don't eat fried food but this was the most delicious meal I have ever smelled. I have not had fries or fish in years but it smelled so good that I ate some (the portion size is very generous) and it was incredibly tasty. We will be back soon. Thank you! read more

My 98 yr old grandma and I were fortunate to find a parking spot in front of this darling Irish Pub. The owner greeted us herself and was very welcoming. The interior was inviting and made us feel like we were in Ireland with the stone fireplace, wooden tables and booths and eclectic sofas scattered around. There was live music during the meal in the other room and it wasn't so loud that you couldn't your own conversation. I got the beef stew that was delicious. Perfect size and the gravy was not too thick. My grandma picked a winner with the fried chicken dinner. It was pounded thin and crispy with tasty gravy drizzled over it with very flavorful mashed potatoes and perfectly steamed broccoli. We will definitely come here again. If you can't take a trip to Ireland you need to come here because it's the next best thing! read more

Terrible service Was essentially ignored for half an hour. Had to clean my own table, ask for water, ask for a menu, ask to order, ask for utensils, got up and got my own napkins, couldn't get a refill on my drink, then left cash because I couldn't get a check. It's so awesome to see a local favorite spot thriving. We popped in to Murphy's for a couple cocktails to start the weekend and were not disappointed. Awesome food, super happy vibe, great drinks... but it was the service that really took it over the top. Our server, Jackee, was friendly, fast and knowledgeable. The service is always friendly, and if I don't get a table, I totally don't mind sitting up at the bar counter, although I think that's where the stupid bets tend to start... Funny story about this place; years ago when I was still a MISS Cynthia L, I was being rather flirtatious with a guy at another table (see first line of this review) but he kept ignoring me. Instead of taking it gracefully, I loudly said, "What, are you deaf?" And a friend sitting with him said, "Uh, yeah. He is deaf." Gah. I'm not really sure what to say. I had a happy hour burger ($6 or $7) and four beers (1 at happy hour price - $3 I think). Being generous that brings me to $10 for a domestic beer (Boneyard IPA and Murphy's burger). Then I had three regular priced beers. I'm guessing they're $5 a pint. So I'm looking at $25 tab. My check was for $35. I should have asked for an itemized receipt but I wasn't provided one which was weird. It doesn't matter how good anything might be at a place, if the math doesn't add up and you feel like you're getting screwed, you get one star. Even if I assume I was paying $6 for a regular micro brew (which is nuts) that's $18 + $7 for the burger + $3 for the beer = $28. Maybe the guy screwed me out of happy hour even though I was there before 6 pm. I don't know. Maybe they should provide an itemized receipt. Either way, one star. read more

Oh, Murphy's. You and I could have had something cool. You're the girl next door, the Irish pub that would take me back home and be a little part of Europe so far away from the place proper. You had the right drinks, but over the course of the last year, I've come to realise how much else you got so, so wrong. It wasn't even the Irish pretensions that broke this camel's back. You're a pricey date, a vacuous, masquerading clone of the authentic, and you cannot cook to save your little, leprechaun-lite life. You've hired the second-worst barmaid that I've ever met (avoid Murphy's on Saturday mornings and early afternoons, lest you incur the wrath of the salamander herself), though the saving grace that is the wonderful Katie somewhat offsets her bile. Murphy's, you have an interesting little patio area, but if we're being overcharged for flat drinks, the least you could do is try for civility when we bring them back. Writing this has been tough. I can't believe I haven't yelped this place yet--I've been here so many times and for so many reasons: 1. Trivia on Tuesdays. It gets crowded, and there's always a super-smarty-pants team that monopolizes the winnings, but that only makes the occasional tie-breaker round seem like more of a sweet sweet victory. 2. Happy Hour. Monday thru Friday, 3-6 and 10-11; $3 pints, $3.50 wells, 1/2 priced appetizers. Solid. 3. Sports viewing. I caught the WSU-UW basketball game here a few weeks ago when Goldies just sounded too depressing. In honor of the upcoming St. Patty's Day, we ordered Irish Coffees and their rotating dessert, chocolate cake. Yummmm... 4. St. Patrick's Day. Definitely wouldn't go back for this. My friend and I came here after a mission to Molly Moon's. Hungry for hot food we stumbled onto this Irish pub and was pleasantly surprised. Dissapointed: Shepard's Pie (a Shepard wouldn't want to eat this pie!) MUST TRY: Fish and Chips! The Fries were delicious along with the batter of the fish. This was the second time I've been to Murphy's "Irish" Pub and will be the last! To sum up my first visit I'll just say that the combination of Hip Hop music and Irish Pub does not work........ On my second, recent visit which has led me to sign up here my guest and I were finally greeted with a "what can I get you"? NO menu or drink list provided at all.......After an awkward moment we had to ask for a menu. The server took one from another table where others were sitting and handed us theirs. Still no drink menu but he did let us know what they had...Two beers it was..... After looking over the food options our first impression was "OVER PRICED". Not seeing anything that stood out we went for some beef nachos......Even though they cost $12.50 we were already there and hungry so placed our order........WTF?? was the impression.....these had to be the worst I've ever seen.....Cheese, chopped onion and canned olives.......Topped with a handful of cut up and dry/overcooked hamburger patty....MMMMMM After sitting with empty drinks for a bit we went back inside to find out that our server was MIA and didn't let anyone know we were there....the bartender didn't even care or even offer an apology, I guess that's how they roll..?... I'm hanging out with friends but I'm the d.d. My glass of soda water is $4. It's not "fancy", it's from the gun. I can see $1, maybe $2, but $4 is outrageous. I don't want to sound cheap, but this is way more than anywhere ever and this isn't exactly the Ritz Carlton. I've lived in Wallingford 3 years and I go in here at least about every 6 months. Normally there is a very cool lady behind the bar who understands that service means when my glass starts to get empty, we ask whether I need a refill and things like that. It's usually colder in this place than you want it to be, like if we were really in Ireland haha and it's really just pretty basic bar food, although I give the battered fish & chips a good rating. I'm writing this review because yesterday I went to Murphy's and there was a dark little man tending bar, for whom I had to repeat EVERYTHING I ordered from my whiskey to my burger to what kind of wings I wanted - and he was RUDE about not getting my order the first time I said it! Unbelievable! Little man is either hard of hearing (I am not soft spoken) or he just doesn't care to listen to what I am saying, because he can always make me repeat myself. Unfortunately for him, repeating myself makes me very cranky! I ate, I drank and it was time to leave to get home in time to watch game 7 of the NLCS. Little man has his back to me, talking, talking , talking to his buddy, another employee. My glass is empty. I wait a few more minutes - he sees me putting my coat on - he makes no move. I put my scarf on... still waiting. Finally he walks right past me to ask one of the ONLY 4 OTHER PATRONS IN THE PLACE if the TV is working for them... I had to call him over to ask for my bill. Since I used to teach mixology and bar service at an F&B school what I really wanted to do was reach over the bar and choke the life out this little man. Walking into this place on a Saturday night, you'd expect more attentive staff. We had to flag down our waitress after about 20 minutes, and this was after she walked past us multiple times already. Beer is fine here. As it is almost anyplace in Seattle. Otherwise, the place is USELESS. It has no 'Irish feel', I agree, but I really don't care one way or the other about that aspect. It has the atmosphere of a place that somebody once invested in about 15 or 20 years ago, and it has been run into the ground since then. Service is butt-slow, even when not busy. (But the usually invisible waitress was DAMN hot when she deigned to appear, I will have to grant -that-) The food, I would not feed to a disfavored house pet. It was a barely warmed-over Kirkland Signature cylindrical section, with cold congealed-fat undercooked fries (my order was messed up as well, I had requested a substitute salad). Anyway it was far and away the worst burger I could imagine, short of some dancing maggot revue on top. My fault: I ate most of it, and lived through a few uncomfortable hours of digestive distress for my troubles. This place did not suck so badly in earlier years, but something has markedly deteriorated. Seattle, and Wallingford for that matter, offers many bar hangout alternatives. I've been a customer of Murphys before and after the change in ownership. My biggest wish is that all those reviews before the handover could be erased. Not that it's bad having a 3 1/2 review average but look at the reviews after the change. Easily between a 4 and a 5 now. What is most important to me was highlighted by a newbie friend of mine I recently brought in. Shelley (sp) the ownwer manager, who has talked to me on numerous occasions came up to our table and introduced herself to my friend recognizing he was new. Asked how things were and chatted for a few minutes. My friend was floored. Immediately after she left the table he said, this is now one of my top three restaurants in Seattle. Not only was the food good but that manager/owner working the floor was phenomenal. I just moments ago chatted with one of the employees outside of work and his remarks make this an outstanding destination for any one visiting Wallingford. Loves the staff, owner, food, and customers. I give it 5 stars plus and you've got to try the rueben! read more

Ray: This is gonna be easy! Check it out: Murphy's Pub @ 1928 N 45th St. in Wallingford. This wasn't the first time I had ever been to Murphy's. In fact, I went there not too long after they opened in 1981. I remember the place was still kinda new. Then, more recently, Josh and I went there for a Thursday night out. But now, Murphy's is under new ownership. They closed for a few weeks while they did some remodeling. Josh and I figured that a new owner essentially makes the place new - to us...so that's where we went, so there! Murphy's exterior didn't change much at all with the new owners. It still has that Irish look to it, only as we entered the establishment, I noticed right away that the Irish theme carried on inside too with traditional Irish music and décor. The old Murphy's was only Irish on the outside, inside it was a regular bar (if memory serves me). We sat ourselves and were quickly met by a very attractive and experienced waitress. I ordered an IPA for starters. I just asked for a good one. I wasn't disappointed. She did great, only I forgot to ask which IPA it was...oy. The menu fare was pretty much Irish type food. I went for the Corned Beef and Cabbage, an Irish stand-by staple. The wait was what I would call normal, but the presentation of the food (delivered by the chef, I believe) was outstanding. And the best was yet to come... The flavors were so very good. It certainly ranks among one of the best meals we have had in our Thursday nights out. I was very satisfied. Murphy's is a stand-out on the block. Most folks that haunt Wallingford know of it by name. We felt very welcome and the wait staff were pros. Just the right amount of attention, leaving us wanting nothing. The food was surprisingly great! I can award no less than five stars to Murphy's Pub. And to the new owners I say, "Outstanding job and keep up the good work!" Josh: This Thursday did something we don't normally do; we revisited a place. However, I found a loophole in the "Thursday dinner with my Dad" by-laws that states that a restaurant can be revisited if it has undergone a remodel, or a change of ownership, or both. Murphy's has undergone a minor remodel, and a major overhaul on the menu. The dining room is large, with a stage in the corner. It was mostly empty (as our Thursdays usually are), so we sat down right away. The server was there within a minute to take our drink orders and drop off the menus. Traditional Irish fare throughout, I ordered the pork chop, but there was a couple other dishes that were all tied for second place. I'm certainly going back to get a taste of the shepherd's pie. The presentation was amazing. It was smothered with a sweet red sauce (I wish I could tell you what it was, but I can't remember and the menu isn't posted online yet) and apples. It was leaning on a wedge of cabbage, little potatoes on the side, and a slab of heavy irish bread with soft spreadable butter. It. Was. Delicious. I mean, seriously. Good ambiance, Irish music playing, the obligatory digital clock counting down the minutes and seconds (and tenths of seconds) till St. Patrick's Day that is so very ubiquitous in good Irish pubs. What this place is great for: Getting to know a group of friends better or even a date where you actually want to talk. Basically, a place where you can really get comfortable and have a solid good time without craziness and drama. vaulted ceilings and step-down areas, making it all seem connected yet personal too. irish dancing on Mondays Truly old-fashioned darts, awesome awesome darts! The toe line is drawn which would seem obvious, but lots of Seattle places don't have one. Plus they're right next to each other for simultaneous throws. Trying a local micro-brew Bringing kids in the late afternoon. This was my favorite time atmosphere-wise. The local after-work 20 and 30-somethings were down to earth. Just know what you're expecting. It's not super packed, which is a plus for me because the good-sized group of people that were there were all so very laid back and friendly. And don't expect a fully irish experience. Don't know why there were so many negative reviews about the staff. They were friendly to me and answered my questions about the drinks, which were good.The comment about bright lighting also boggles my mind, its full of stained glass windows and Tiffany lamps.
