Mainly came here because we had our dog with us and it was one of the dog-friendly restaurants in this area. The service was great. We were able to pick out our own seats and found seats immediately at the bar. The bartender was fine with just having our dog by our legs. For food, we got the Irish Nachos and their Shepherd's Pie. Both were good, but nothing spectacular. I would say the food is better than average, but nothing super special. The food wasn't very expensive though and filled 2 people up with LOTS of leftovers, so that was great! I'd probably come back here to grab a drink and appetizer again. read more

Why did it take me years of living in the area to finally visit Murphy's?! I guess I'm not super crazy about Irish pubs or loud places, but Murphy's isn't always loud. I'm glad my former co-workers took me here on my last day at my old job (many months ago), because it showed me that Murphy's is a pretty cool spot. What did I like? The drinks! A few of my friends got very excited about the Po'boy special (check the picture) and I enjoyed one of their wheat beers. The food! We ordered a lot of things off the happy hour menu, and I really enjoyed the beer-battered pickles. Months later I came back and sampled their fish & chips. It was a little more expensive than I would have liked, but the dish was fantastic. The people! A few of us got very curious about this one man who kind of looked like (an older) Sherlock Holmes and was drinking a martini. We loved his look and his adorable dog, and he was intrigued by all the cans of Rainier on our table. I think he said he hadn't seen Tall Boys (or Rainier beer?) in many years. :) I'll probably never be a regular because I don't really frequent Irish pubs and probably shouldn't pick up a fish & chips "habit," but I really like Murphy's... and love that they have free wifi! read more

Really great fish n chips here! Not super greasy and made with real fish. You can get clam strips for extra. I honestly have to say that the coleslaw was the star of the meal for me. Great flavor, creamy, crunchy and all that good stuff. If you come in the evening on a Friday night, like I did, expect a to enter a party atmosphere. The live band plays classic rock tunes and I remember the lead singer sounded very much like Axl Rose. I was a little annoyed because my friend and I were not able to carry out a conversation because the music was so loud, but that was not a deal breaker. It's live music! Great selection of Irish beers along with a full bar. It's a pretty decently sized space. If ever in the mood for a pub, I will think of Murphy's. read more

We love coming here with our dogs, sometimes just for the Irish beers, other times we'll have the great poutine and fried chicken dinner too. Not the place if you're in a hurry- the staff are always very kind and helpful, but they can get busy and you probably won't be in and out too quick. We used to go at least once a month for trivia, but since Covid hit have been ordering the occasional take out. The food is always great - good sized portions and really tasty while still having the pub food feel. We ordered last night for St. Patrick's Day and between us and our friends got the corned beef and hash, Reuben sandwich, fish and chips, and stout stew. All of which were great. Went here for the first time with two friends. It was super packed due to the combination of trivia and a UW football game. When a table was opening up, I asked one of the servers if it was open sitting. He said yes but another group was waiting and that my group of 3 could take the spots they left at some couches with a tiny coffee table next to the fireplace. This was fine for beers but I was really hoping to order food. Another table became open, so I asked another server if we could be seated there. He responded asking how big my group was and then told me that another larger group would be seated there instead (our group had 3 people and this group had 4). Other tables opened throughout the night and were given to groups who arrived more than an hour after we had. Ended up going to Dick's since we were never given the option of having enough space to eat. All together it was pretty frustrating to have been relegated to a tiny table and couches and then to have been overlooked for more than two hours. Especially since we witnessed firsthand that they utilized this couch seating as a waiting area for the group that had been there before us. I'm sure my rating would have been higher had I been able to eat some of their food. read more

The new owners have really transformed this place. Previously, this place was a hole and just not worth a visit but now I'm considering becoming a regular. The servers are excellent, the owner is friendly and even served our table. They are even kid-and-dog-friendly! The servers are extremely sweet to the dogs and feed them treats, with permission from their humans, of course. The menu is relatively basic but that shouldn't be held against them. I was on a pub crawl in the area and had already eaten by the time I arrived here which I wish I had just a tad more room to sample some of the food here as the menu looked enticing. There were friendly folks here and as you might guess some decent pints of beer to be had as well as a bit of Irish Whiskey as well. My only disappointment is they were not showing the Rugby World Cub and didn't even know anyplace that was so I guess not a big rugby culture in the area or just the wrong Irish Bar to ask? Beers weren't too bad and they had a decent amount of options. The prices were average overall. +1 for their patio. +1 for live music This place can get crowded inside when there's evens going on. Our last order: Cheeseburger: not bad, not great. pretty average but the fries were tasty. French Dip: only so-so. This isn't a normal french dip...it's a hamburger patty on a hoagie with some cheese and onion. I'd pass next time on this one. $2 extra to add a side salad vs. fries. Might be better off ordering some of their Irish fare as their other menu items have been nothing to write home about. read more

We went to Murphy's for the first time last night to celebrate getting married. My wife's last name is Murphy so I decided to have us go to Murphy's to surprise her and there were 6 of us in total. We sat down and after we were all there, an employee came over to our table to check everyone's IDs. My wife is in the navy and she showed her military ID, which has her birthdate and photo, and is accepted everywhere as a valid form of ID. The employee informed her that the bar policy was that only driver's licenses were accepted and her military ID did not show what she needed to be able to be served. We were not talking about the military or politics and I'm not sure why he refused to accept that form of ID. She had her drivers license as well and so he said she was ok. But then he did not return to our table to take our order, but was serving tables immediately next to us. Wouldn't even make eye contact. He told my wife that he was a marine, which is obviously false since he would know that it's accepted everywhere if he had served and didn't even know where to look for the birthday. That false valor in addition to his disrespectful treatment of us and refusal to serve us is unacceptable. We left the pub after waiting for him to take our order for a good 10 minutes. read more

Writing these reviews, I'm always torn between assessing a place for what it is, versus what I wish it were. This fine difference becomes more poignant in a fake cultural pub, be it Irish like Murphy's, or German, English, Southern, or Mexican. Always the same. I want it to be authentic; I want this to be a public house in Cork, with low ceilings and a fire, a cask-pulled draught of the favorite local and whatever the patron's wife has ready for dinner. But I know, it very obviously cannot be, so I'm left with simply what is. And what it is, is a stereotypical American Irish-themed pub. What sets it apart is the people, the food, and the completely unapologetic embrace of the obvious Americanized bastardization it is. Murphy's has been around long enough to know what it is, accept it, and get on with the business of being a Wallingford staple pub. It shows in the service, which always starts with a friendly, almost apologetic smile, followed happily and quickly with a good beer (always too cold). Food, if you order it, is an embarrassment of riches; old-fashioned bangers and mash is made fine with fancy gravy, elaborately piped potato, beautiful cabbage shining with butter- the only thing that looks Irish is the humble soda bread hiding on the side-and it's the real treat, with a toothsome, coarse, butter-living crumb and a nutty flavor. Generous portions; there's enough on my plate to feed a typical Irish family, in times past. I eat it thoughtfully, wondering what an Irish immigrant, escaped from the potato famine, fresh off a boat in New York and so thin he's hard to see sideways, would think of such a feast being pedaled as "lunch"... All speculation aside, the food is good and filling, the beer just as much so, and all offered in interesting variety. The staff is lovely, but keep in mind the number of soggy, socially inept frat boys they have to handle regularly this close to the UW, and let them know you're a friendly by not being one of them, having manners, and returning their generous smiles. I came on trivia night and it had its pros and cons. The food was actually really delicious. However, we came early to get a good seat, and they made us move because of a larger party that needed seating. They made us move to an area that was extremely crammed. It was also very loud and hard to hear others. The service was also really slow. I'm taking it with a grain of salt because of how busy it was. The trivia was fun and the food was great. read more

He was yelled at and removed for trying to order without waiting to be seated (for take-out?) but she sicked her doorman on him. He's 70. We went here for takeout tonight because my 5 year old wanted fish and chips and everywhere else was closed at 8pm on a Sunday night. First of all, they were extremely fast (less than 10 minutes to get two meals ready!). Next, the woman who gave us the food was the nicest person and was so kind to my little boy. Third, I hate fish and don't eat fried food but this was the most delicious meal I have ever smelled. Typical irish bar, but with drinks a bit on the expensive side. Real darts with chalk boards are a real plus though. There was only one bartender working, and I had to wait in line for a while, but he did make good drinks. This would be a good spot for St Patty's day probably. read more

Time will tell but I just had some tasty fish and chips and then stuffed myself with corned beef and cabbage. Fish n chips. Great steak fries. Fresh large portion of fish . Crispy. Got gummy cuz they set it on top of the fries and the bottom steamed . Feel confident they will work out the kinks. Prompt service. Lively Irish music playing. Clean updated decor. Worth the wait of the build out for a neighborhood institution to return with its original charm and an infusion of passion. The corn beef and cabbage. Cabbage was Crunchy fresh slightly buttery. Well seasoned. Corned beef. Also well seasoned and left that great beef flavor lingering on your palate. Mashed potatoes weren't the best I've ever had but were obviously made in house as opposed to instant which too many places do. all of the food was phenomenal especially for a pub. This is a review of Trivia Night at Murphy's. I came here at 7pm with a group of friends for Thursday Trivia Night. They ordered some dishes that looked really good, but I already had dinner beforehand. I ordered a beer off of their list of beers on tap. Trivia consists of two halves. The first half includes a picture round, which you should complete first. The second half starts with a MOHAI round, where the questions are about the beloved Pacific Northwest. The winner of the MOHAI round wins tickets to MOHAI (Museum of History and Industry). There's also a tie-breaker question if there is a tie. The second round seemed much longer than the first, but also included more points as well as there were questions that are multi-point. For instance, for the music round, there was a point for the song and a point for the artist/band. Besides the MOHAI prize, the first, second, and third place, but there is also a prize for the second to last, which is a free pitcher of beer if I recall correctly. My friends and I came in 2nd. Overall, it was a truly fun evening. read more

I've always been treated like a prince, which far excels my station in life, and contributes to my continued, enthusiastic, and loyal patronage. Were trivia at Murphy's to cease, and the hospitality of Jason, Chelley, Eammon, Bree, et al to somehow become absent from my life, I would weep hot, bitter tears at the loss of one of the best parts of my existence. My 98 yr old grandma and I were fortunate to find a parking spot in front of this darling Irish Pub. The owner greeted us herself and was very welcoming. The interior was inviting and made us feel like we were in Ireland with the stone fireplace, wooden tables and booths and eclectic sofas scattered around. There was live music during the meal in the other room and it wasn't so loud that you couldn't your own conversation. I got the beef stew that was delicious. Perfect size and the gravy was not too thick. My grandma picked a winner with the fried chicken dinner. It was pounded thin and crispy with tasty gravy drizzled over it with very flavorful mashed potatoes and perfectly steamed broccoli. We will definitely come here again. If you can't take a trip to Ireland you need to come here because it's the next best thing! read more

I live in Boston, where you trip over five Irish pubs on the way to your Irish pub. As such, I have seen the kind of product that Murphy's puts out in about a hundred different ways in my neck of the world. What I look for in an Irish pub is very specific, and I don't consider it a good one unless it has certain characteristics: -Good food, served without a fuss -A variety of seating options -A sturdy bar, with a bartender that knows the area I am not entirely certain about that third one, since I wasn't drinking, but Murphy's handled itself well in regards to the first two. Our party of five sat at a raised table by the window, but could see comfy armchairs fifteen feet away and shorter tables spread throughout. The food was exactly what you would expect - standard American grub, presented without an abundance of flair and generally tasty. This is a neighborhood place, and I'm sure the folks in the neighborhood enjoy it plenty. read more
