I don't know that I would call this an Irish bar - not sure what the fuck it is. Anyway, stopped in the other night after a movie and experienced a less-than-fresh time. It just seemed weird all around. A mixed crowd of frat-boys and ugg girls, serious musician-types (it was open-mike night) and your random old dude. The music was way too fuckin' loud for enjoying a beer and some conversation. The service was absolutely lame, seriously I know the music was loud but how many times do I have to repeat my drink order and then to still get it wrong!? We didn't try the food but I doubt that I'll ever find myself back there to have the opportunity. Two stars - one for each beer I had b/c I like beer and they have it there. read more

Horribly rude bartender. Ignored me while I stood at the front of the bar with cash in hand while she took orders from people standing behind me. Then when I finally did get an order in she practically threw the beer at me. Worst nachos I've ever had in my entire life for $5. Literally, stale chips with a tiny bit of cheese sprinkled on them. Murphy's, you suck so hard!!! Avoid this terrible bar like the plague. read more

I can honestly say I won't return to Seattle again without returning to Murphy's. I really enjoyed the Traditional Session night on Monday and the food was outstanding. My wife aspires to copy the meat loaf . And the staff really made these tourist feel like they had a home base to explore Seattle from. Awesome . read more

Shame on you Murphy's. You are a beloved icon in Wallingford, but your new owner is not acting like a good neighbor. I was parked in the parking lot behind Murphy's in a space that was apparently the neighboring restaurant's. After an hour in Murphy's, I was shocked to find my car gone. I was informed by your bartenders that the two establishments are in a war over the parking lot and that Mejari most likely had me towed. In fact, I heard they towed your car that very same day. It cost me $370 and an extra hour + of my time to get my car out of impound. It was 11pm. I have reviewed Mejari poorly for towing me in the first place. There was no point since their parking lot was empty and the space was not clearly marked as theirs. Shame on them. However, shame on you too. I wrote you a letter asking you to help me with paying the tow bill. I have not heard from you. That was over a month ago. I am a regular customer. I have brought many a visitor and many a friend to Murphy's over the 13 years I have lived here. But you are new and you may not know that. Or, maybe you don't care. Maybe you are so mad about your own car being towed that same day. Maybe you can only think about the war you are in with your neighboring business. That sucks. It truly does. But should I have to be in the middle of it? Should I have to be harmed because I choose to frequent your restaurant? I am a neighbor. I have three kids in three different schools here. I'm nice to my neighbors. I'm forgiving and welcoming. I go out of my way to take care of my neighbors. New Murphy's owner, how long have you lived in Wallingford? Please start acting like a good neighbor. I like Murphy's a lot. But this has left such a bad taste in my mouth, I'm questioning the new Murphy's values. How are you going out of your way for your neighbors? Are you creating connections? or breaking them? Shame on you Murphy's. read more

I LOVE this place! I haven't been there lately ( since 2007) because I can't find any1 who wants 2 go, but have been dying 2 go back! The service is fast & friendly & the place is clean! Theres a nice stone fireplace in the front room. Its well lit & has a couple nice flat-screen tvs on the wall. A good hang out joint! read more

Happy Hour is ok, with the standard greasy food and beer/well drinks. Nothing special. I like the location (in the middle of Wallingford) and the dart boards. Service tends to be slow. read more

Wow I don't know why some others are so down on this place. Well I'll say that trivia night on Tuesdays with Willy is a fantastic time. Paying $1 per person per round (and then winning at least some of it back when you make the top 3 in one of the 3 rounds) is a bit odd but it totally works and $3 for the night with $10 microbrew pitchers all evens out even if you lose. There are lots of movie and music questions including a "name that song" format that is fantastic. There's also the possibility of a free beer during the dance-off chug-off tiebreaker. Willy the MC is hilarious and really plays off the audience. If you enter with the right attitude and the right expectations I promise you this place delivers. One thing I would change if I could: NOBODY LIKES STEAK FRIES, just give me crispy run-of-the-mill fries with a good amount of salt. read more

Good for darts, hey have nice dart boards (I can't believe I'm actually posting this because it will just make them busy and harder for me to play :), but oh well its true). Pretty good beer selection (even have some cask-conditioned beer taps). The owner is super nice and Jenny is an awesome bartender/waitress. I watched the final game of the world cup here on 3D TVS!!!! It was pretty awesome. The food is a little expensive, but happy hour deals are good and the food itself it good for bar food (fresh-cut fries are actually pretty awesome - especially with paprika and garlic). TRIVIA NIGHT - this review is only for Murphys trivia night. Im a big fan of trivia nights & was excited when I found out the bar around the corner had a trivia night of its own. The guy running the "show" was a dick. The questions were completely unintelligent, uninspired, and uninteresting. Zero humor, zero enthusiasm, zero fun but it cost 4 bucks a round (We've never paid for trivia night anywhere else including Philly, NYC, & DC). Were never going back to trivia night at Murphys thats for sure. DONT GO. read more

Beyond the Irish Jams and now- into September 2010 as their food and drink are good with some recent developments with regards to Wednesday Night Open Mic of the 9pm crowds who seek new entertainment, have found new entertainment! Recently of the more progressive musicians that arrive just before 9pm who have something special to offer Murphy's Pub as likely above many other similar venues to listen and pleasantly surprised. this is one place that i will not be returning too. not only were the bartenders incredibly rude but they charged my buddy 100 dollars that some other table on the other side of the bar. also i was meeting a buddy there for his birthday i ordered a drink for me and my gf and then they said i was cut off. i have never been cut off after one drink and while i was leaving saw a help wanted sign in the window and laughed because it seemed to me coming from a business owner point of view they need a entire new staff. i will not be going back and will not tell anyone to go there. read more

Murphy's is one of the best places to go with a friend or two and discuss the world over a few pints. You won't find a lot of pool competition or opportunities for flirting, but the service is quick and unobtrusive allowing for great conversation aided by beer. The bartenders aren't there to entertain you and can get a bit surly. But they seem to be professionals, careful not to over serve and happy to pour shots of Jameson. read more

I recently moved to the Wallingford area and was looking for a place to watch the World Cup. I remember seeing that Murphy's was open for the game, so my new roommate, his friend and I walked down the street to check it out. It was 11:30 in the morning on a weekday, so it wasn't that crowded, which was nice, and we were able to find a table with a half-decent view of a tv. After about five minutes or so, we were finally noticed by a server who came to see if we'd like a drink. One of my companions asked if they had a drink menu, and the server set a food menu down on the table and left. When she finally came back, he asked her what other people were drinking, as it appeared as though people had the same beer. She simply shrugged, "I don't know. We have 20 beers on tap." Rather than ask for them all, he asked what were some good local microbrews (he's from the Midwest). She listed off three beers. He ordered one of them and chips and salsa and the hummus. I ordered a Manny's and a basket of fries. We were then told, "I need a card to open a tab". None of us asked to do so and we weren't even sitting in the bar area. Later, the table next to us was given the option of opening a tab by the same server. When she arrived with our drinks, she managed to set down mine before almost spilling another table's drinks all over us. Luckily, it all landed on the table or floor. She then went to get a towel, but before returning with it, she refilled the spilled beer, showing where her priorities were. When she brought the towel, she just tossed it on the floor and left to deliver more drinks, not even bothering to wipe up the table. We later saw her spill a bit from another drink she was carrying without a tray. The food took longer than expected to arrive, considering what it was, but food was constantly coming out of the kitchen showing that it was busy back there. The hummus came with pita wedges and I was informed it wasn't bad, and the chips seemed decent enough. Since I didn't try either of them, I can't say much more about them. The menu says their fries are "steak fries ... deep-fried until golden brown." The fries I received looked nothing like that. They were not steak fries and were brown, greasy and mushy. However, I did like them. They remind me of the fries at a bar in Tacoma I sometimes frequent. One thing I noticed about our server was she seemed stressed out and hurried. She speed-walked to and fro, even when carrying plates of food or trays of drinks. The other server walked at a normal pace and seemed to be doing much better. Maybe out server was just having a rough morning. She checked on us only once other than delivering the food, when our beers were more than half full. But she did bring a refill of a soda when she did. All in all, the food was decent, the beer was more than expected ($5 for a pint?), and the service was scattered. I will have to try it out during normal business hours and get a real meal, not just a snack. read more

Murphy's resembles an Americanized version of an Irish Pub. I've never eaten here, so I can't comment on the food, but the service is a bit slow if you are ordering drinks. The customers are predominantly University of Washington students, which makes it a bit on the young side. read more

I went here on Thanksgiving Day, because everything else was closed. I asked the bartender if they were serving food, to which he responded, "We have turkey." I said "Fine, I'll have that, and a Guinness." The "turkey dinner" was prepackaged sliced turkey and American cheese on white bread. With potato chips and a warm pickle. I guess I should have expected that, but $8.50? The Guinness was ice cold. I know that Budweiser needs to be that temperature, because that's the only way to get chemical sludge to taste like actual beer, but this was like drinking a Big Gulp. And the gigantic TVs were blasting a football game at me, there was no escape. I just came in for a quiet pint and maybe some food. read more

I like this place because it's close to me and has great trivia nights. However the service is horrendous. It's safer to mosey up to the bar to place your orders than waiting the 30-45 minutes (sometimes longer) to catch the servers attention and then the additional 15-20 minutes it takes to get your drink. read more

Great pub with a great crowd. The bartenders are quick to serve and very friendly. There's a local music showcase on Wednesdays, which isn't too bad. After the band shut down, one of the customers grabbed the guitar and kept the music playing for another 40 minutes. Monday night Irish jam sessions are the highlight. read more

While their menu has a great variety of Irish favorites their happy hour menu also offers a great and well priced variety of options. We have been coming here every week for trivia for a long time with no issues. I literally started a yelp account to write this review. A misunderstanding in seating led the owner Chelley (smaller red headed lady) to give me and my party unnecessary attitude. I asked her to explain the situation (and was hoping she would apologize for being so mean earlier) and she gave me more attitude and walked off. Never once did I give her attitude, but she continually called me and my party rude and told me she didn't care if we never came back. I've never been treated so poorly by the owner of an establishment, especially as a regular customer. I suggest you get pub food and trivia elsewhere. read more

My husband and I came to see the Pacquiao fight, and were happy to see that there wasn't a cover charge like some of the places in downtown. I definitely appreciate a place being generous like that-- it's a great way to attract happy repeat customers who might not have otherwise dropped in. The staff, and especially the regulars we met, were really nice. I also love that it's well lit, clean, and spacious -- all of which make Murphy's much more inviting than your average bar.
