Wound up here by accident on my birthday, was in Seattle for Swan Lake and wanted some lunch before heading to the hotel. Took the UD exit and turned left instead of right for shopping. They had a sign out front that said they served lunch...ok, bar food it is...NOT!!! What a wonderful surprise the menu was! Corned beef and cabbage, Colcannon, Bangers and Mash...OH MY I found Irish heaven! The food did not disappoint, it was amazingly good. And this is a BAR mind you! I've had food that wasn't this good at alot of RESTAURANTS as those of you who have read my other reviews know. They bake their own Irish brown bread and let me tell you it is so so good! I bought an entire loaf to take home. I had the Bangers and mash and my daughter had the corned beef and cabbage, so flavorful and the corned beef was melt in your mouth tender and not the least bit stringy. Guinness gravy-MMMMM. Even if you don't drink-stop in and have some lunch or dinner, it's well worth it! Also, I had the ginger cider-very refreshing and my daughter had the ginger lemon ale which was also very good! This is my local joint to go for some decent wings and Guinness on tap. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had Snake Bites (Guinness and Cider) on special one night as that is one of my favorite drinks. *Update - Was apparently one of the random specials - no longer on special when I went in on 6/17, but still my favorite place to wind down a Sunday evening. The staff is usually pretty nice, although sometimes it seems as if they are a little short-staffed. I also happened to be in one night during open mic night. Although I had to leave early as I was chatting with somebody, it seemed like there was a lot of talent that night. I'll probably go back again and check it out. ** Another correction - a Snakebite is actually cider and _lager_, not Guinness as I so naively mentioned above. My friends in Chicago always called the Guinness one a Snakebite, so I will have to correct them next time I return to Chi-town. read more

I guess this place is a Seattle institution, though I went there for the first time tonight. I liked the fact that its an Irish pub which doesn't force me to believe that I'm Ireland whether I want to be or not. Great fish and chips made from scratch. Perfectly poured pints of guiness. I read another review claiming the guiness was ice cold, I have to disagree. Nice dart board setup, good food and drinks. Every place has a bad night or two, but I been there on quite a few occasions and haven't had a bad time yet. Diverse crowd, live music on some nights, nice staff and the food is always spot on. Another nice thing is they have "industry" nights, and usually have some type of drink special regardless of what night it is. Good place to grab a pint or sip on some Irish Whiskey. read more

This place is amazing. Great food, great drink, great service. And during warmer months they have a really nice patio out back. Consistently good food and amazing service. Brunch is a must! I happened to move into a condo about a block from Murphy's over the winter. My first meal in Seattle was there, and I've eaten there at least once a week since. The food is spot on! I haven't had a meal yet that wasn't delicious. Don't tell the Irish side of my family, but their Shepherd's pie is better than grandmas and the corned beef and cabbage is as good as my family makes. The hamburgers are some of the best I've ever had. The brunch is a nice, casual way to start the weekend. If you're craving a traditional Irish breakfast, you must try Murphy's. The service is second to none. The staff and the owners make a point to know their customers and greet everyone. They have not only remembered my name since my first visit, they remember my favorite meals and drinks and make suggestions of new items I may like. I have several friends that I introduced to Murphy's who now invite themselves over in order to go there. Traditional Irish music on Monday nights played by whatever locals show up for a casual jam session is wonderful. And, the addition of an open patio in the back adds to the atmosphere. Prior to tonight I would have given a 6 Star review because my fiancé and I come here all the time when we are not working. We work at the hospital and work all kind of hours and really enjoyed coming here to relax during our off hours. It's always been our place to go until tonight. Tonight was St. Patrick's night.. we saw there was a line and decided to go eat dinner and then come back. When we got to the door we were told they only take cash for the cover... so I asked if I could wait in the entry way while my fiancé went back across the street to get cash.. but the owner says no. It was pouring down rain and I was waiting for my fiancé to come back across the road. So I stood in the pouring rain and saw this car of 4 people pull up from a car. They tried to get in and were told only cash... so they pulled their money together and asked the guy if 4 for $34 world be ok.., he said YES! So when my fiancé came back across the street from running back in the pouring rain with the cash I asked the guy (who turns out to be the owner) if we would get a discount because I saw him give the others a discount.. he said no... so he gave them a discount but not. He said, "I'm the owner and I can do whatever I want.. if I want to charge them less and charge you more then I can do that"...How is that ok??? I'm sorry but I work hard for my money.. why is it ok to charge one price for one person and another price for another person... we will NEVER go back.. read more

The beer list is pretty good ... Lots of variety (obviously there's the standard Guinness, Smithwicks, etc), but there's also several local craft beers -- for people who just don't really want to drink anything other than an IPA. The service was pretty good -- the staff is pretty friendly and the wait time for food/drinks was reasonable. The food wasn't really that great. I had the Shepherd's pie and the gravy was ok but the mashed potatoes tastes like instant; my friend had a burger and it seemed like it was closer to "fast food" than "sit down restaurant food." Yesterday I made a day trip to Seattle for a wedding. My flight had me arriving at SEATAC at 9 AM so I stopped for brunch at Murphy's while I was waiting for the afternoon wedding to start. I am a bennies fanatic. There is no better breakfast! So when given the opportunity to try bennies I always choose them. There were several different types of bennies on the menu. I prefer a different meat than ham, so I had Katie's, which had fresh crab. OMG. I died and went to bennie heaven. They were so yummy! I have certainly never had better. I've eaten a lot of bennies, lol. Afterwards I had the bread pudding. Another home run! One of the owners of Murphy's Irish Pub is a distant relative, which is why I originally chose to stop there. But I would definitely return, just to have the food and hang out in the authentic Irish environment. Thank you Murphy's for a memorable meal. read more

I've been a customer of Murphy's since my old college days at the UW. In the past all of my experiences have been positive in regards to food and customer service. Fast forward to lunchtime on St. Patrick's Day. I rarely consume corn beef & cabbage, but since it was a great day to be Irish and i wanted to continue my streak of eating this meal on St. Patrick's Day for 5 consecutive years, my co-workers and i decided to order take out meals. This is where the fun and stupidity starts. About two days before St. Paddys i called to see if the four of us could pre order the meals because our place of employment is only 5 blocks away from Murphy's. I was told on the phone that they were not taking pre ordered meals prior to Friday, but i could call back on St. Paddy's around 10:30-11AM ; since Murphy's would be opening at 9:15AM on Friday morning. I called at exactly 10:45AM and was told, "We are getting slammed here please call back at 12PM for pre order meals. Any other time i would have thrown the towel in but it was St. Patrick's Day and my streak was on the line. I called back at 12:05 and was told,"Feel free to come in to place your orders because we are really busy here". Now my "Irish" blood is boiling and i'm not even "Irish". My co- worker and i decided to make the 5 block journey to order 4 St. Paddy Day meals. We were met at the door by the owner and one of the employee's who may have been answering the phone. After telling the owner that we just want to order the meals, he preceded to tell us that we would have to pay a cover charge of $10, just to go in and order the meals. I explained that i called several days ago and that his employees gave me conflicting instructions on how to order a meal. At this point i am thinking, "the customer is always right". Right?, especially when each meal sells for $16 a piece.($16X4=64). Not today! The owner turns to the employee and questions her conversation with me. She paused and nervously stated, "I told him that there is a $10 cover charge to come into the pub to place the order". My quick response was, " You must have spoken to another customer because i was told several conflicting statements. I then recounted the above conflicting statements. The owner and employee finally said,"sorry we can not let you in without charging". We spent more time explaining ourselves, that could have been spent taking our orders. It was raining but we would have been fine waiting outside until the meals were ready. Great location,ok food and poor business acumen. We were able to call around and found out that The Atlantic Crossing Pub in Roosevelt was taking St. Paddy's Day meals over the phone and at a more reasonable price($12 a meal). The meal came with corn beef,cabbage,mashed potatoes and cornbread. Each meal was hot and ready for us as we arrived. They even had napkins,eating utensils and mustard set aside for us. The food was delicious and actually filled my stomach until late afternoon. The St. Paddy's Day streak was maintained and this guy has a new favorite place for corn beef and cabbage. Well worth the drive from Wallingford!. read more

Went there for dinner tonight for the first time. The place has a relaxing décor and atmosphere. New Owner "Shelley" walked right up to me and we started chatting right away. Awesome lady! At her suggestion, ordered the Irish Stew. Arrived in minutes, and it was F--kin GREAT!!! The tastiest food I've had all week. Got the Murphy's Stout -YES, another homerun out of the ballpark! I highly recommend this place and I'm definitely going back soon. This is my new favorite place. Took a look briefly at the menu and it seems they have a whole bunch of different 'hearty' fare. I want to sincerely apologize to the waitress that served breakfast to my girlfriend and I on New Year's Day, January 1, 2017. When you were clearing our plates and had lifted up my plate, a knife fell off the plate and landed butt end first onto my iPhone screen. You looked horrified and realized faster than I did that the screen had cracked where the knife struck it. I wasn't even mad, just sad. I did not give you a hard time because accidents happen and I didn't think you did anything wrong. You comped us our breakfast anyway. Over nine months later I realized that the screen wasn't broken. I walked around that whole time with what I thought was a broken screen. Eventually my mom was telling me a story about a shattered screen protector and I remembered that I had a screen protector on my phone too. I assumed that a screen protector either absorbed a blow or it didn't. I didn't realize part of absorbing the blow was that the protector itself will break. I peeled mine off and my screen was perfectly unharmed. Anyway, I'm sorry I left with you thinking you'd broken my phone and I have no idea how much our meal was but if you somehow keep records of such things, message me and I'll send Murphy's Pub a check. This pub has really improved their food in the last year; I didn't care for it before, but they must've got a new chef. It's wayyyy better, especially the Reuben and real fish and chips. The last two bands I saw there were really good, Carragline, and the Surly Goats. My boyfriend likes the old Irish songs, bagpipes and all that, so he's super happy here. I like it because it's not pretentious and the food is great. Drink prices are about the same as they are everywhere. Definitely the best Irish pub in the area. read more

Seriously crappy service at Murphy's tonight. Because someone at my table ordered her first beer from the bar, the server treated us like we were invisible, serving the tables to either side and every other table in our section for half and hour, despite polite attempts to get her attention. Never mind that I hadn't started a tab. No explanation, just evil looks and no service. I finally went up to the bar and the bartender was nice enough, but he made damn sure he closed out our tab before he went off shift. I don't blame him. People, I've waited tables and know how important tips are, but making me feel like an unwelcome jerk just ensures smaller tips for everyone and makes it likely that I wont ever be back. If you have to compete with the bartender for tips (a recipe for bad service btw), tell me politely that our table needs to order at the bar, but don't ignore me. read more

Murphy's could easily be a decent place...they have a good selection of beers, food is pretty good, TV and darts for entertainment, and generally a nice 'pubby' feeling. But for whatever reason, Murphy's is home to some of the worst servers/bartenders in Seattle. Everything from pouring a beer to taking your order seems to dumbfound these people. I live just blocks from Murphy's and stop in for a beer every couple of months just to see if anything has changed....it never does. read more

It just seemed weird all around. A mixed crowd of frat-boys and ugg girls, serious musician-types (it was open-mike night) and your random old dude. The music was way too fuckin' loud for enjoying a beer and some conversation. The service was absolutely lame, seriously I know the music was loud but how many times do I have to repeat my drink order and then to still get it wrong!? We didn't try the food but I doubt that I'll ever find myself back there to have the opportunity. Two stars - one for each beer I had b/c I like beer and they have it there. read more

Horribly rude bartender. Ignored me while I stood at the front of the bar with cash in hand while she took orders from people standing behind me. Then when I finally did get an order in she practically threw the beer at me. Worst nachos I've ever had in my entire life for $5. Literally, stale chips with a tiny bit of cheese sprinkled on them.
