This fun new festival is being spear-headed by one of the local wineries with many of the Main St. business' participating by way of setting up alters in their shops. (the book store had one to Shakespeare etc. etc.) Many people participate in the Catrina/Catrin costume contest held mid-day at the local theater (so cool to see them all walking around town all day!!) and in the evening they do a procession to a local cemetery to honor the dead. And there are usually a few different places to listen to live music, this year I've heard they'll be having a great mariachi band! It is always fun to walk around Murphys eating and drinking your way through the day, and this event just makes it that much more fun and interesting! So if you are planning on coming to Murphys around the beginning of November (it's held the first weekend usually, check their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DiaDeLosMurtosMurphysCalifornia) then come for this event, and maybe even join in the costume contest!

The smoked tri-tip was perfectly cooked. The smoked vegetables were incredible. The bread was amazing. We drove over 90 minutes to get here. We are planning on coming back for the next theater show and bringing the kids. It is a historic building in the process if being renovated. If you can appreciate the history and the work going into making it great again you are up for a special experience.

My friend and I went on a Friday, which was the educational day and which was more geared towards family and children. There was no alcohol served and while there was a fantastic bagpipe player serenading people with the Outlander theme song, there was not a wealth of live entertainment (the alcohol, live music and other interactive performances happen on both the Saturday and Sunday of the faire.) We both knew that the festivities were paired down on Friday, and we both were more excited about exploring the vendors. The grounds were fantastic and all of the vendors were so personable and genuinely thrilled to be part of the annual event. We sampled teas, admired Celtic wood-working, gushed over Native American beaded hats, tried on cute flowy shirts and much more. My favorite aspect of this event was definitely the people. Everyone we encountered was so friendly and passionate about celtic wares. It was a heart-warming experience in so many ways. If you ever have the opportunity to check out this annual event - do. If you are looking for a rowdy time and enjoy people watching - I recommend coming by early on a Saturday or Sunday (I've heard that parking gets tough later on in the day). If you're like me and prefer getting a mellow peek at the Celtic stalls in advance of the busier weekend - Friday is your day. Trust.

I love this festival…read more It's low key, affordable, accessible, and the good vibes are in abundance. This year was my third year attending this festival and I continue to be impressed by the organization of it, the music, and the fantastic vendors interspersed throughout the grounds. From colorful tye-dye, delicate jewelry, one of a kind vintage items, hand crafted baseball hats, hip big brimmed hats, stunning photography and much more - I love to peruse each of the booths - and enjoy supporting as many as I can. The stage is always impressive at this festival and the sound is always on point too. From my understanding - the stage has a rich history and many great artists (including the Grateful Dead I believe) have performed on it back in the day. This festival truly captures the essence of Twain Harte in an inspiring way. It showcase local merchants, music, and food - and I love the diverse age range of attendees. From hula-hooping, face painting, and much more - there are plenty of activities for kids during the event, and if you're older and would prefer to just lounge in the mellow vibes - you're more than welcome to bring in your own chairs and manifest some cooling shade. I've been to many festivals throughout the years - and this festival continues to be one of my favorites. The staff always seem to be having a great time, the music is quality, and everybody seems to be genuinely having a great time. I'm looking forward to next year :) Trust.

TIM! TIM! TIM! The…read morelifeblood & soul of this museum is a docent named Tim. A polite yet confident, friendly yet proud personality, Tim gave my girlfriend and I the museum experience of a century. Arriving at the museum, we were greeted by a docent at the entry who was quite kind to us and we enjoyed the initial room and science/medicine rooms - however, if you're the type who reads every line at a museum, you will enjoy it more than we did because the information was IMMENSE. Too much for my adhd brain, but perfect for an avid reader. But it was the carriage house that floored us. Tim greeted us nearly the moment we stepped through the doors to introduce himself as a volunteer at the museum. I figured he may give us a little intro and then let us parouse the 10,000sf facility but boy was I wrong. Tim proceeded to give us a guided private tour for what was easily the good part of an hour. Carriage by carriage, phonograph by phonograph, Tim passionately spoke on the most interesting history, anecdotes, untold tales, and intriguing facts about every item in front of us. It was as if he had plugged himself into the knowledge of the universe and was translating its binary into English for us to understand. I loved every moment and most importantly, I could see that HE loved every moment. We walked out having to look at our tickets to see if we had accidentally purchased VIP guided tour tickets. But no - that is just the character of Tim and of the people who run the museum. We finished at the mining building where we got a chance to see incredible historical items/devices/tools, as well as some BEAUTIFUL specimens of stones - including the 2 most gorgeous pieces of petrified wood I have EVER seen. The docent as this building raved about Tim as well but was no stolid volunteer herself - she was ALSO extremely friendly in her own right, offering us cold water on the hot day we toured. I cannot wait to go back and recommend this museum to any and all in the Angels Camp / Murphys area!

Though it was challenging to dance beneath the powerful sun (I sat in the shade) - I still had a lovely time. The Saturday sunset was absolutely breathtaking. The Westside Pavilion in Tuolumne, CA, is owned by the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuolumne_Band_of_Me-Wuk_Indians . In the past number of years the Westside Pavilion has hosted an array of shows including Snoop Dog, Pat Benator, Peter Frampton, Smokey Robinson etc. As a venue - Westside Pavilion is solid. There is lawn seating. There is free parking (though it does get busy for big concert events.) There is plenty of room to move around. There is grass to lounge on. The sound is on point. And throughout the recent festival that I attended, the trailer style bathrooms were easily accessible, well-maintained, and air conditioned. Once the sun sets and the stars illuminate the sky, Western Pavilion is quite magical, but as a daytime summer venue, it can get uncomfortably hot. I recommend coming prepared. The festival I attended was well organized, but mother nature's heat is definitely something to consider. For a cooler time - be sure to bring a hat, a fan, drink plenty of water (the colder the better), and pace yourself. Despite the strong sun that attended in full force at my recent visit to Westside Pavilion- I am thankful that I got to experience this venue first hand. Exit strategy to clear out parking lot was horrible. Traffic became dead locked for about 45 minutes after the concert. Tempers started to flare, parking lot attendants didn't seem to be concerned about clearing up the traffic.
