We had a generally positive experience here - good wine, a cute outdoor tasting area, and pleasant service. Our main frustration was the fact that the staff member serving us had a mask that wouldn't stay on his face, and he kept having to pull it up and hold it in place (which he started doing at our request) - this was concerning from a Covid safety perspective. My husband and I each did a tasting, and we liked the Viognier, Pinot Noir, and Sangiovese best. We bought a bottle of each. We appreciated their policy of waiving one tasting fee for each bottle purchased. The outdoor sitting area was lovely, and the staff member who took care of us was friendly. My main concern was with the staff member's mask constantly slipping off his face. Him holding it up when serving us was not ideal, because it meant he was constantly touching his face. I recommend he get a new mask that is comfortable, fits well, and stays on. Overall, we had a good experience here. read more

We spent a wonderful couple of hours at Frogs Tooth. We sat out on the lovely deck with oak wine barrel tables. It's located off of Main Street in courtyard with a couple other businesses. Pamela Aderman, owner, walked us through our tasting. She was a warm, friendly and very knowledgeable host. She educated us about their hands on process for picking and sorting the grapes. I loved the Sauvingnon Blanc. I'm sure the care they take in removing leaves, damaged grapes, etc. is what gives it such excellent flavor. I was never a Sauv Blanc fan until now. And the Tempranillo is another winner. I won't tell you how much wine I bought, but I'll be a regular customer. Don't miss this winery. read more

I enjoy a good glass of wine every now and then. I really enjoy wine tasting when I visit my parents in Murphys. If you've never been wine tasting in Murphys you simply must get in the car and head on up highway 4. ;) One of my favorite places to stop is the Frog's Tooth tasting room. There is a little table for kiddies outside since they are not allowed in the tasting room. The room is a good size compared to some of the other tasting rooms in Murphys. Their wines are really smooth and tasty. I'm more of a red wine type of girl and I do not care for wines that are sweet. I made my way through the tasting offerings and literally enjoyed every single wine I tasted. I truly did. I would definitely recommend this tasting room if you are in Murphys. Cheers! read more

Lacey was incredible and so were the wines! We had their barbera during dinner at a local restaurant the night before and so we wanted to check out their wine tasting room. We ran late and when we got there she was closing up. Lacey saw how sad we were so she opened everything back up for us! All the wines were delicious and we definitely bought a lot. I personally liked all of the Reds but especially the meritage. The prices were reasonable and I only wish I could get their wines where I live! This was by far our favorite winery in Murphys. Our Wine Club group of 9 visited the winery itself for a tasting and tour. What a great experience!!The owner, Larry, was our host and tour guide. We learned a tremendous amount about how they make their wines, watched as they hand sorted the grapes as well as tasting some wonderful wines. We met the winemaker Will and were able to engage some great conversation with both of them. We loved (& purchased) the Grenache, GSM and Mourvèdre. It's a bit off the beaten path but definitely worth the trip. We went to the tasting room to pick up a couple of rosés, nice tasting room. On top of great wines the whole staff are friendly, knowledgeable and so hospitable. read more

We were in town for the day and didn't realize the city had a wine stroll that day. So most, if not all the local wine bars on Main St. were pretty busy. We popped in this wine bar because Yelp had a "2 free $10 tasting" so why not? They had a some good whites and some good reds but what I loved the most was that they had wine glasses that had "49er Fan" logoed on it. Found out the owner is from the Bay Area and is a huge bay area sports fan (except the Las Vegas Raiders lol) so we bought a bottle of Pinot Grigio and four 49er wine glasses, lol! read more

Frogs Tooth is murphys best kept secert (its not right on main street so not everyone knows about them) FTV is by far our favorite tasting room to visit in Murphys. There isn't a bad wine on their list, which is hard to find in Murphys anymore. Their new winemaker is making incredible wines! The tasting room is set back off main street down a walkway behind Nelsons Candy Store and Murphys Grill. Its well worth the extra few steps. What a great winery with many delicious varieties. The store is very cute with ample space for wine tasting, in addition to wine there are homemade/handmade candles and very cute t-shirts and sweatshirts. We ended buying some wine, a t-shirt, a wax melt and several candles. We enjoyed our wine so much that we signed up for the "tadpole" wine club (3 bottles 4x annually). A group of my friends and I came here while celebrating my friend's birthday yesterday, we had a great time tasting a wonderful variety of wines. Not only were the wines outstanding, the owner and everyone on the Frog's Tooth team were welcoming, kind, and very knowledgeable on all things wine. While we were enjoying ourselves, the owner shared that he and his son designed and built the bar counters, which I thought was really neat! By the end of the tasting, almost all of us purchased a bottle of wine (there was no way I was about to leave there without the Fume Blanc! So delicious!). On our way out, I was enjoying the conversation I was having with my friends so much that I missed a step down and fell and cut my hand open. I came back into Frog's Tooth to wash the cut and I was greeted with nothing but compassion. They brought me an ice pack and towels and gave my friend their card and asked her to let them know that I was alright later. Not to mention that they replaced the bottle of wine that had shattered during my fall (this was an extremely gracious gesture that I'm so thankful for, I can't wait to enjoy it! Seriously, you've got to try their wine!) This kind of customer service and genuine kindness and care for others is one reason that they deserve 5 stars. Another is the fact that their wines could get all 5 stars on their own. They have a delicious variety and I highly suggest stopping by here if you are in the area. Frog's Tooth is the perfect example of what I have come to love about Calaveras wineries. Obviously, Calaveras' tradition of world-class vinification pales in comparison to that of Napa or Sonoma. It would surprise me if half of Calaveras wineries were more than a decade old. Because of this fact, the consumer benefits in many ways. Not the least of which is the fact that the vines weren't selected and planted by a bunch of conformist Francophile sentimentalists. As they say, variety is the spice of life, and Frog's Tooth certainly offers this. I pretty much made up my mind about Frog's Tooth as soon as I read the tasting list: 3 whites at the top...none of which are Chardonnay! Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty we are free at last! I know that every Grandma in the Midwest finds comfort in the omnipresence of Chardonnay, when she heads to her local Ralphs in her house dress. I would like to think that I can be a little more creative in my wine consumption than her, and I love wineries who are similarly creative in their viticulture. Yes, I know, there is more of a market for Chard, Cab, Merlot, but dammit there are thousands of different varietals to choose from. Frog's Tooth is aware of this and shows an independent-minded attitude toward their grape selection, and I have the utmost respect for that. What do you gain from this, you ask? Torrontes. Spanish/Portuguese in its origin, Torrontes is cultivated widely in Argentina. In America, not so much, but in Murphy's, Frog's Tooth has it. Based on the intense musky citrus and floral bouquet of the 2007 Torrontes, I would say it's similar to Viognier on the nose, but extremely light, crisp, and dry on the palate like Pinot Grigio. This may be the perfect pair for steamed shellfish. I would say this is the most unique white wine I've tasted in Calaveras. Their 2007 Fume Blanc is similarly intriguing, as it is aged to perfection in a bit of neutral oak. All steel Sauv Blanc is just boring to me, just like super-oakey Chardonnay. Throw a little oak in the mix, and Sauv Blanc comes alive with complex flavors. I got a lot of herb and melon aromas with the typical crisp finish of Sauv Blanc. This well-crafted wine can easily stand out from the crowd, as it was awarded a double gold medal recently. I found their reds to be similar in quality. Their 2006 Tempranillo is another medal winner which tickled my fancy. I'm very passionate about medium-bodied red wine because of its versatility in food-pairing, and Frog's Tooth scores again with theirs. Loaded with dark fruit and an earthy backbone, this wine does not overpower you with firm tannins. Rather it's soft on the palate with good acidity giving it structure. This has me dreaming of my Andouille Jambalaya. Really, I liked all of their wines and wouldn't blink paying 20-30 bucks for any of the small batch artisan wines that they produce. On the contrary, I feel luck to have it, as they are currently about to sell-out all of it. Absolutely a must-stop winery if you are downtown in Murphy's. read more

You can't go wrong with FTV wines. They've got a great selection of both whites and reds. I LOVE their fume blanc so much!! All of their reds are drinkable and have a nice balance of fruit. The people behind the counter are friendly and a lot of fun!! Also be sure to try the gourmet mustards they have for sale in the tasting room. Very good stuff. The only wine here that I don't like too much is the tawny port....it's a little rough for me (too much brandy I guess). read more

This lovely little tasting room was recommended by Doke Sushi as having good white wines so my daughter and I gave it a try. I'm so glad that we did, as we ended up buying 3 bottles of their Fume Blanc which I REALLY like and also got to speak with Pamela who is very charming and full of information. She warned us about speeding on Highway 4 and i was very glad she did because others have told me since then it is very easy to get a ticket even if you are only slightly over the speed limit. Nice little outdoor patio seating where you are tucked back from the main street and foot traffic...the surrounding neighborhood/houses on the backside of the tasting room are adorable! Jim was quick to come assist us when my gf and I walked up for a tasting. Jim was very friendly and easy to talk to, checked on us frequently and dug deeper into what qualities we liked in a wine to get a judge of our palette. After speaking with us further and understanding the type of wine we were into, he recommended several other wineries for us to check out, which was appreciated as we'd never been to the Murphys area before. Highlight of the tasting list was the Barbera, which was soft and luxurious. Definitely worth checking them out, for both the wines and the service! read more

Overall, their wines are great! Love the light, crisp tastes.. Good summer wines! However, the staff are extremely touchy on who enters their tasting room. If you're and older couple/group they're very nice and attentive. If you are younger than 30 stay away. My two girlfriends and I stopped by this place on a birthday weekend and they were soooo rude and treated us like children. I've never been insulted in a tasting room this bad..
