She is a wealth of knowledge about her family's winery and history in the farming industry. The wine list was presented to us and we were encouraged to relax and enjoy the experience. Don't mind if we do! We made our way to the tables within the barn and commented what a perfect place to gather with friends and family while enjoying some delicious wines! Our flights were brought to our table on the cutest little serving tray along with some tasty treats to enhance the experience. Every single wine was delicious! I'm not a fan of big jammy reds at all and none of the reds gave that taste. I'm obsessed with their rosé and Aspen white blend. The Sequoia red blend is also a favorite. We were so impressed with the quality and flavor of the wines as well as the entire tasting experience. We taste often in Murphys but first time trying Locke. We had a great experience here. The grounds are lovely and Kirsten and her father Kevin were both a delight to talk to and learn about their history. The wines were good and they also provided some cheese and crackers. Our favorite was the Giant Sequoia. They waive the $25 tasking fee for every two bottles purchased so of course we bought wine, bought enough to get a 15% discount which was nice since their retail prices are a bit higher than I expected compared to another local winery that we belong to that's similar quality. Overall a great stop that I highly recommend. I response to Kristen. I think you might be confusing me with someone else we never said we were in the wine industry and we bought 8 bottles so we could get the 15% discount. As far as pricing I stand by my comment that the prices are a bit high compared to some of the other places we frequent nearby. Hands down the best wine tasting experience I have ever had. Kirsten was an amazing host, incredibly attentive and personable. The ambience at this winery is beautiful and the inside was clean, and cozy. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a fresh scent of lavender coming from the bundles they have hung to dry. The wine here is delicious and like nothing else I have had before! There flavors are unique and you can tell they are passionate about what they do. My only problem was I didn't get more wine to go. I was blown away by the hospitality I received visiting Locke Vineyards. As soon as my friends and I walked in we were greeted by Kirsten and Kevin Locke. They were very knowledgeable and friendly. The tasting itself was amazing. What really stood out to me was the service. During the tasting my dress ripped and I instantly ran inside embarrassed. In no time Kirsten starts searching for a sewing kit and stapler. Well needless to say my dress was fixed and I was able to enjoy the rest of my day. I stopped here with my family while we were visiting California and we had such a great time! Locke vineyards is a charming, relaxing winery with indoor and outdoor seating and a cute gift shop. In addition to wine they have dried lavender, farm signs, and a ton of amazing vintage looking items. They also have a TON of lavender drying in hanging bunches which gives the whole area an even more relaxed, natural smell. We each had a wine tasting and really enjoyed the different wines. They offer mostly drier, bold wines and not sweeter wines like Moscato or Reislings so if that's your preference this might not be the place for you. If you're looking for a relaxed, rural scene with friendly people and unique wines definitely give this vineyard a try! Rating from a F to A+++ I give it an A++ only because I wish they had a sweet wine on the menu. read more

I planned a girl's day with my mom visiting from Texas to some of my favorite Calaveras Wineries and of course, Locke was on the route. Kirsten and her dad are some of the nicest and most genuine people you'll meet. They're super knowledgeable about the industry and are passionate about their brand. The flight came out on handmade wood boards in silver rimmed plastic cups. I know working through these muddy waters of COVID are tough, but I think they did a great job making the experience great while keeping the sanitization at the forefront. I love their Aspen wine! It's light and refreshing. Perfect for an easy sipper on a Saturday or paired with a tasty charcuterie while sitting at home. Their Orange Muscat isn't on the tasting flight but I know it's delish so we snagged a bottle of it too, and it was on sale! They also have a real sweet nursery to replant your own plants or let Kirsten put together a farm grown floral bouquet that will dress up any room or as a nice present. Locke Vineyards is a must when visiting Calaveras County! Allow a full hour to enjoy the beautiful grounds and of course the vino. read more

At the recommendation of some friends, we just tried a flight of wines during a weekday visit to Murphy's. Come to find out, we just missed wine festival crowds by one day (thank goodness). The staff there we're extremely friendly and we shared some info & recommendations with them from our own wine region (in the Paso Robles area). Our flight consisted of a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rose', Zinfandel, Cabernet and a red blend. The whites were light & refreshing (and I'm usually not a fan of Chardonnay). The rose' was also refreshing, not too sweet or too dry. Being big fans of Zin, we definitely liked their offering. My husband's favorite was their blend, the Giant Sequoia. They also had a number of lavender products (I took home a few bath bombs to try), as well as a swag section with vintage signs and other rustic decor items. We really enjoyed our tasting and we will return!! read more

My family and I went into this winery, 13 of us walked in the seating table outside.. we unpacked our food and began to eat itS Suddenly management came in and told us that we were going to be charged $75 for bringing food an hour. WHAT?! No signs, no heads up, no documentation. we were under the impression that it was ok however, a staff member before the manager came and welcomed us and let us know where the trash is. Very misleading. We purchased a bottle or two thinking we can drink it, however they opened and it and did not let us return it and gave us a new total. Overall, my family and myself did not feel a welcoming presence and we've been to many beautiful wineries in Murphey's with very welcoming spirits, you might as well go to Indian Rock Winery and Hovey's. Such great staff, welcoming spirits, and they seem to love big families. read more

I was given a bottle of zin from Locke by my wife, and it was one of the better zins of my wine drinking career thus far. Perfectly balanced and peppery. I hope to visit one day myself. Thank you. My favorite winery in the Murphy's area! Hands down! A little out of town but well worth the visit! This family ran winery is not only nestled in a great plot of land, but the tasting room is cute and inviting. Selling a lot of lavender (grown onsite) inspired and infused products, we had to walk away with something to remember the way we felt being in there. But let's get down to what this place is really known for, its wine. Serving one of the best Rose' we have ever had to a Zin and other robust reds using grapes all grown themselves aka estate wines, something rare in Murphy's that we discovered. The owner Ken Locke not only personally poured our wines, but gave us the history of the winery and story behind each wine. I cannot wait until I can cork the bottles we got and have my taste buds revisit the experience I had when we were there. read more

My first time to Locke Vineyards was not impressive. We have a cabin in Twain Harte, and decided to check out some wineries in the Murphy Valley. The model at Locke was order a flight at the counter and they deliver it to you. Also there was only 2 flights available and $15 each, which was more than any other place in Murphy. No explanation of the wines or personal story about the vineyard or owner. It would be one thing if the wine spoke for itself regardless of the service model, but the wine was subpar compared to every place we went to in Murphy. The only upside was they brought us 2 full complimentary bottles of water. read more

I stopped by here on Friday afternoon because I was meeting family for lunch across the street and I was early. I'm so glad I went in! Kirsten was serving and she was just opening the room. We chatted while I tasted their great wines. I was very impressed with all of them, and with her knowledge of wine. The tasting fee is $10, which is refunded with bottle purchase. You will enjoy crisp whites for the summer, all the way to inky and rich reds like the Giant Sequoia (a red blend). They are friendly, and the pours are generous.
