The line for Murphy's was out the door, which I figured must be the sign of a good ice cream shop. It's located in a very lively area. While waiting in line, the workers gave us samples, which was very kind. It allowed me to figure out what I wanted to order, as well as try some of their unique flavors. I love that they have Irish-themed flavors, such as the Irish Brown Bread and Dingle Sea Salt. They were delicious and a great way to add an Irish experience onto getting ice cream. I ended up getting the honeycomb caramel and Kieran's cookies.Highly recommend!
Would highly recommend trying this ice cream while you're in Dublin! There was a line out the door, we probably waited for 15 mins. However, it felt like it moved fast because 2 workers were giving out samples while we were waiting. This is something I've never seen, but really appreciated! I tried the famous brown bread ice cream, chocolate whiskey, and sea salt in line. No matter which cone/cup size you get, you can get 2 flavors. I got the caramel and the cookie flavors. They were both delicious! I also dropped one of my scoops on the ground and the worker quickly took my cone to give me a new scoop! The only downside is the price, but it was worth it for the experience and excellent flavors. Big shout out to the workers for the great vibes and music!
Murphys is the go to stop for ice cream. Made in Dingle, the ice cream is creamy and delicious. I got the cookies and cream and chocolate medium cone and it was delightful. There is a long line, but while you wait the servers bring out little tastes for you to sample so you're ready when you get to the counter. The place is small and no seats, so expect to take it to go.
First impressions: I came in the cold weather (late October) but was craving some ice cream. The line was long but the service was wonderful because they had one person offering any samples and as many samples as you want to try. I was able to try all the flavors while standing in line and this made the whole experience fun and I knew I picked the best flavor once I got to the front. There even a cute swing and sign for taking pictures. Unfortunately not much seating The Noms: I picked the brown bread flavor and loved it. Very smooth and creamy and the texture from the bits of bread kept it interesting. Since I got to try samples of the entire menu, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. In Conclusion: 10/10 would recommend!
Great pleasant and engaging staff. They keep the crowd (yes crowd) moving so efficiently. Unique flavors and surprisingly not overly sweet.
Super nice and interactive staff. Line looked long but it went quickly. Flavors were very interesting and authentic. I went for Strawberry and Butterscotch which were very tasty and not artificial. Would be nice if they had some more bar seating but otherwise a cute shop.
I didn't try Murphy's ice cream until my third visit to Dublin. But on my last night a couple of weeks ago, I had some extra time and I was close by so I decided to finally try it before heading back to my hotel for the night. The line was out the door, but I wasn't in a rush, so I didn't mind. The night was on the warmer side, and there was a beautiful sunset. I did read some reviews while waiting in line, and many people commented on the price and the few flavors. I am of the opinion that if you are a visitor, especially to a capital city, you are going to have to expect to pay higher prices for things. Also, this ice cream is handmade in Dingle, so you're also paying for quality - and I like that there aren't 20 or 30 flavors! We've become too spoiled and overstimulated with choices. Back to the business! The workers, all college-age, I imagine, were very friendly and every once in a while walked down the line offering samples and answering questions. They were extra kind and patient with the children and older people. That means a lot to me. It honestly was the happiest long line I've ever waited in - but I've noticed that about Ireland in general - that's why I keep going back! I ended up getting a small cone with 2 scoops - chocolate whiskey (awesome!!) and brown bread, they were both unique flavors and tasted good. The texture was very creamy. My total was 7.50, I paid 8, and the 0.50 she returned to me I put in the tip jar. The experience and ice cream were worth it to me.
Totally a special place. Ice cream from Dingle. Clean, professional, with multiple of interesting flavors. Must stop for Ice Cream Lovers!
During our guided beer and food tour of Ireland, one of the stops was the Murphy's Ice Cream parlor. So we took a break from beer and food and moved on to our final desert, a cold creamy cup of ice cream, and I wasnt complaining. They offer an optional waffle cone and ice cream sandwiches. This parlor was slammed with customers but we secured a private table for our small group in the back. The twelve flavors looked promising which included Raspberry, Jasmine Green Tea, Mango, Butterscotch, Honeycomb Caramel and a few others. With great anticipation, the server placed a cup of the Dingle Sea Salt mixed with the Irish Brown Bread. The rich creamy ice creams were a perfect combo.
On a rainy summer night just before closing, we were able to sample most of the current flavors and then bought four scoops (two medium cups with two flavors each). I can't back up the claim that they are the best ice cream in Ireland but I can tell you I liked it very much. Clearly made with fresh and high quality ingredients, it's lighter and fluffier than most American ice cream -- less rich and less sweet as well. Honeycomb caramel -- excellent and likely my favorite, the pieces of honeycomb give it a nice crunch Sea salt -- their most popular. Allegedly made from sea water collected at Bín Bán beach in dingle. Also excellent Chocolate Whiskey -- some whiskey ice creams only have a hint of the flavor but this one is quite strong, perhaps even overpowering. Strawberry -- very good. I might call this strawberry cream as it was the creamiest of all I tried Irish Brown Bread -- the first taste was sugary but it grew on me. I wish I had a bit more for final judgement. Mango Sorbet -- the only flavor I can't vouch for. Perhaps on a hot day. Would definitely get Murphys again.
Absolutely loved this cute shop! From the neon and highlighted colors and de or in andnoutside to the wonderful tasting ice-cream. The lady inside was a sweet heart and I went with my usual vanilla ice cream and all color sprinkles. The ice cream here tasted fresher and creamer. It was a true delight.
I love Murphy's! Their flavors are simple but unique, and there's not that many to choose from - meaning they do those few flavors well. We were strolling around the Grafton Street area and passed by Murphy's. It was a Friday, around 3:30. Even though it was busy, and a bit chaotic, the employees still took the time to greet us and even talk to us for a bit. Maybe that's a requirement if you want to work at Murphy's - that you have to be friendly, because we went to the Cork location and they were very nice there as well. Or maybe everyone in Ireland is just nice and I'm just a jaded New Yorker. Anyway, we went with a classic - the Dingle Sea Salt. It was very smooth and clean-tasting. If the ice cream shop was closer to our hotel, we definitely would have went (at least) once a day. So maybe it's a good thing that it wasn't!
Love love love Murphy's. This location is no different from the others, with a friendly staff and basically the same menu. This one does have a couple of tables in the back and a bathroom downstairs, which is good considering how crowded this location gets. Almost every flavor is a hit (I'm not a fan of rhubarb or marmalade, but everyone's different). Again, would recommend Dingle sea salt and honeycomb caramel. Both balance each other very well!

Tried the irish salt and irish shortbread? Was it? I forgot but the bread wasnt good enough for me. The irish salt was super good in my opinion. Sweet and salty byt more to sweet and it made it very sublime and very delicious. Recommended and its not a tourist trap! Cheers! read more
So cute and smells so fresh in here! Staff: So great and friendly! They are efficient and of course great recommenders. Irish Coffee & Chocolate: You can definitely taste the small amount of liquor and the blend is great for this combo. Overall: Very cute aesthetics inside and honesty the service was so great this is just a must for me lol read more

Perfect treat for a hot summer day ... we first tried Murphy's in the town it hails from - Dingle ... and were in love! When we arrived in Dublin we were delighted to find one just around the corner ... flavors not to be missed include.. Gin, Sea Salt and Brown Bread ... my personal tip to them is to add a little sea salt into the brown bread flavor it it would be perfect! Or grab a scoop of each on your cone! read more

Great ice cream spot! Everything is hand made by these guys and they really make a good ice cream! They will let you try any of their flavors. Don't miss the Irish coffee with real whiskey and Kieran's cookie. Also liked the Irish bread pudding and the salted vanilla seems to be the favorite there. They even make their own salt! It's a great location in the center of town with lots of stores and bars to browse through. Clean bathrooms, great ice cream, great service. Hit all the requirements. Can't wait to go back again! read more

Even though it was a little chilly in late November we couldn't resist trying the best ice cream in Dublin. And I will say it is pretty good We got one of the specials (sticky toffee) but my favorite would have to be the Dingle Sea Salt- delicious! Also, not to be overlooked - the service is superb. They allow you to try many flavors and even simulate the specials by creating a "bite size" tasting of the combined flavors. read more
Faith and begorrah, t'is a good thing that I discovered Murphy's quite by accident on my last night in Dublin. I say a "good thing" because I would have been gorging on this decadently delicious creaminess all week long had I known it existed from the outset of my trip. Y'see I'm trying to be a conscientious flexitarian, and it's been a struggle in Ireland with all the hearty Irish stew and Guinness to be had here. In fact, the irony of my discovery of Murphy's came as I was eating a proper vegetarian dinner at the front window counter in Cornucopia right across the street. I looked up and saw the sign - "Handmade in Dingle" - and was thinking how could ice cream be transported all the way from Dingle. This I needed to try as I spitted out the last remaining bean sprout from my teeth. On my last trip to Ireland many years ago, I motored my way to Dingle on the westernmost tip of Ireland and loved the windswept beauty there. Apparently, two enterprising guys from those parts, Sean and Kieran, opened an ice cream shop there back in 2000. A decade later after much local success, they opened up this compact shop in the heart of Dublin a stone's throw away from that tart with a heart, Molly Malone. Everything looked quite luscious, but what truly caught my eye was the house specialty, Dingle Sea Salt, which is a custard-based ice cream mixed with salt found in the kelp along the Dingle peninsula. They boil it down, and sure enough, it lends a briny quality to the rich flavor. It makes Bi-Rite's Salted Caramel taste so five minutes ago (although it's unlikely I would turn that down either). I ordered it in a small cup for € 3.50 along with a scoop of, what else but the Bailey's Irish Cream Liqueur (see photo). It was a lip-smacking combination, although in hindsight, I probably should have ordered the Honeycomb Caramel as the perfect complement to the sea salt. Of course they have all the traditional flavors you would expect in an ice cream shop, and what Irish shop would be complete without a Guinness flavor (see photos)? They have a third shop in Killarney and even a seasonal shop elsewhere in the Dingle peninsula. But it's probably a good thing that I'm now 5,075 miles away as I think my check-in count would have grown astronomically otherwise. ICE CREAM - 5 stars...custard creaminess with the Dingle Sea Salt a unique flavor that probably couldn't be duplicated here in the US AMBIANCE - 4 stars...cute shop gets crowded fast...blink and you may miss it except for the regulars who must come back here often in packs SERVICE - 4.5 stars...really nice server, very helpful in explaining how everything is made TOTAL - 5 stars...it wouldn't be my chief reason for returning to Ireland, but I know where I'll be going the first day I'm in Dublin read more
Great ice cream and great flavors!! The most charming young man welcomed me into the store and introduced me to the ice cream flavors. I tried a total of about 5 flavors and really loved how creamy all of them were. I got two scoops of the caramel honeycomb and honey lavender. Both were amazing. The caramel honeycomb tasted like a dulce de leche ice cream and was incredibly creamy. The honey lavender had just a hint of both honey and lavender and was not overwhelming like the honey lavender ice creams I've tried at a lot of other ice cream places. These two flavors together were a great balance. I definitely wish I tried Murphys earlier as I was in Dublin for 8 weeks and can only imagine all the Murphys I would have eaten if only I'd known how good it was. Highly recommend! read more

Overall Value: Pretty good ice cream, although I probably would not wait on the line again. I think we ended up slightly disappointed just because the wait really hyped it up. They have really interesting sounding flavors so I wanted to like it, but in the end they all tasted a little bland (although they do have a wonderful creamy texture). It's worth a try, but maybe temper expectations (unless you've only eaten haagen-dazs before). The Food: We got a small cup (€4.00) with Dingle Sea Salt ice cream and Mango sorbet. The dingle sea salt had a very rich, creamy texture, but was a little lacking in flavor - the saltiness really didn't come through. The Mango was much better and packed a little more of a punch - very refreshing on a summer day. We sampled several of the other ice cream flavors while waiting on line, and I think for most of them our impressions were the same - really nice creamy texture that tastes very natural, but lacking in flavor so it tastes like generic ice cream. Space and Pace: Not a very large shop, and a line that was well out the door. The line actually got much longer after we got there, so in retrospect we were lucky, and we managed to snag a small table to sit at. Given the relatively tight quarters and long line, it's probably best to take the ice cream to go - might have trouble seating a larger group. The Service: Really friendly, and they let us sample a bunch of flavors. read more

I've been living in Dublin for about 2 months now and I have to say this is my GO TO dessert place. I love the service and getting to try all the flavors. The staff are so bubbly and grand. A SECRET: It is much cheaper to buy a pint of ice cream and share it with like 2 other friends! Its 7 Euro for a pint, opposed to 3.80 Euro for 2 scoops. You can put up to 3 different flavors in the pint and then ask for the small cups to share it. OMGGG GOLD MINE HERE! I had the Brown Bread, Mint (so refreshing!!), and peanut butter. YUM YUM Dont forget to leave your mark in the guestbook/post it on the wall! :D read more

Super great service! They were giving free samples at the door and encouraged me to taste as many flavors as I wanted to. I ordered the honeycomb and sea salt and both very delicious! Their ice cream was perfectly creamy and had a good consistency. I'll definitely be back before my Dublin trip is over! read more

A great find in Downtown Dublin. The ice cream was amazing. The staff was friendly and was so welcoming of us even though we were from across the pond. Our server looked like famed Irish actor Cillian Murphy, who in a funny twist is a frequent patron of Murphy's. It will take more than a scarecrow to keep me from coming back. This place rivals American ice cream chains in quality and flavor. The shop was cute and appropriately placed near restaurants and pubs. Go to the pub, come to Murphy's for dessert. read more

Wow. We wanted to stop into Murphy's while visiting Dublin after reading the rave reviews and after dinner one evening noticed that we were very nearby one of their locations. Not thinking that they'd still be taking customers, we decided to try and were greeted with very warm welcomes, not the typical moan and groan of employees who want to go home come closing hours at other establishments. The staff took their time to explain all the flavors to us, even going so far as telling us that they use purified water from the local Wicklow mountains. We didn't feel rushed to decide on a flavor and get out and after sampling almost every flavor, they told us to just have a seat at the table while they closed out the register since it was particularly cold outside and they wanted us to be able to enjoy our ice cream. Their ice cream was absolutely delicious, the Irish coffee made with real Jameson whiskey was my personal favorite but their cookies and cream was great too and made with their very own oreo-like cookies. This is a must have when in Dublin. Do it let the line scare you away, as it moves fairly quick. While I was in line, a worker asked me if I would like to sample any flavors. This was super helpful before it was my turn to order. It is on the pricier side, but is definitely worth the try. I know I will be back again during my next visit. Came here for some Irish ice cream but left disappointed. I read online that Murphy's uses the milk of some rare Irish cows called "Kerry Cows" so had to give it a try but it really didn't make the ice cream tasted any more special than some regular ice cream I had tasted. It didn't wow me like Maud's ice cream did. Three stars for them using all natural ingredients, friendly staff, and the use of local Irish cow's milk. Expensive at €4.5 a small cup but you could get two flavors. read more
Came here by recommendation of our tour guide for being the best ice cream in town but was honestly a bit disappointed. The flavors were good and the staff was very friendly and I got to taste a few different flavors before settling on the Sea Salt Caramel which only comes as a sundae since I guess its one of the featured flavors but man was it overpriced! A small tiny scoop of ice cream with whipped cream and caramel cost me $7. I would much rather go to Gino's Gelato across the street which has just as amazing flavors but actually give you a good size serving of Ice Cream. read more

Delicious, rich, ice cream from Dingle. I had a scope of the popular sea salt and another of caramel. Both very creamy and good. Service was good and the shop was perfect to sit and chill. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that it's not particularly memorable. read more

Amazing ice cream! This is a must eat in Dublin! They're a great establishment and give out free samples! They get all of their ice cream from their own cows! My friends got many different flavors and I got the sticky toffee pudding sundae. It had caramel whipped cream! It was so so good! It was made with their brown bread ice cream as well. I loved the whole combination. You must come here when you're in Dublin! read more
