Sadly, I don't find myself popping into Murphy's anymore. They've gone all Orish using paddywhackery to promote their Irish made ice-creams. From the irritating "trad" music instore and the server's dumb flatcaps it puts me off. The Wicklow St store got a makeover last year with a new counter and more space for tourists to crowd into queue for ice-cream. The menu has also been cut back with the sundaes and brownies gone for the past year and a half, replaced by this wasteful and difficult to eat ice cream and cookies combo in a wood and brown paper cup. I'll probably call by a couple times over the summer, but I used to love meeting up with friends here and devouring a tall brownie sundae each! read more

All the staff is super friendly and welcoming, always eager to let you try as many samples and recommend toppings with your flavor combos. The sundae combinations are to die for, and you can even sample an individually-made spoonful before ordering one. Ingredients are always fresh and homemade. Awesome find! There are a lot of Gelato places out there, this one was one of a kind. Not only the flavors and dedication that goes into their product but the passion and customer service provided. Not only were they excited about what they offer they were happy to walk you through flavors, recommendations and samples, oh the samples! I ended up getting the caramelized brown bread (I know a little weird) but in Ireland it's a staple! It was awesome, little crunchy brown bread bites and amazing flavor, and not super sweet! Also got a scoop of the Irish coffee gelato! Why not!? It was made with real Jameson whiskey and coffee! And boy was that delicious! I could have eaten the whole carton! Came here when it was quiet to have a scoop of the toasted fennel and the Irish Whisky ice cream. Both were good. A small actually gets you two scoops, therefore, we were able to pick and choose. It is a very small place and seating is limited, however, with ice cream there is a high turn over of tables so the wait wasn't that long. Prices were very reasonable. Like most of the other review for Murphys, I'd agree, the ice cream is good. But they are taking the piss with their price structure. A tub of Ice cream is 7 euro. Not cheap by any means. But is you want them to put two different flavours, in a tub, instead of one. They charge you 3 more euro. 10 euro for a tub, same volume as the 7 euro tub. Where is the added value of 3 euro?! I love the decor of Murphy's. I love all of the more out-there flavours of ice cream available here. I love that they serve all year round. Sometimes ice cream is just what you crave in winter! My favourite has to be the peanut butter ice cream. It's just so delicious. This is a really fun place to take tourists, as they can try out the likes of 'sea salt' or 'brown bread' flavoured ice cream. Sea salt and brown bread ice cream! Taste heaven, kind of like toast in ice cream form (and I love my toast). Even when the temperature is zero, I will go in here and get my sugar and fat fix. This is one of the only ice creams I can think of where you can taste the cream in there, not just vanilla or other flavours, and given the cream is from presumably very happy Kerry cows, I'm not surprised. Equally as good in the middle of a summers afternoon as the finish to a date night, they open pretty late and are an essential stop if you are a tourist foodie into trying what Ireland has to offer. Five stars for the product, four stars for the sit-in area which is okay but not all that cosy. Murphy ice cream for me was similar to Bi-Rite creamery in San Francisco. Because of its taste (even flavor options are similar!) and kindness of the staff. They are approachable - they encourage you to try some samples. Their explanation on how each flavor came out and recommendation are also very pleasant. A bit pricey, thus three stars for this place. The only real question is why I did not get the caramel with sea salt. Good question, but this was one of those choices that was heads I win, tails I win and I won. Fantastically creamy ice cream! We walked by and tasted a sample thinking that was all we would need since we had just ate a big meal. While looking at all the lovely ice creams on offer, the server gave us some samples - nice touch. I was offered the brown bread ice cream... which I internally balked at. Memories of trying brown bread ice cream made by fellow students in home ecc class came flooding back.... eek. But it was lovely... I however I did end up going for something else (my usual ice cream choices), but I do plan to try it when I go back. I went for the small cone, one scoop cookies and one strawberry. It was grand, I wasn't completely blown away by the ice cream, but it was pretty damn good. The wafer cone was fabulous though. Very fresh and crispy. Having grown up a short (yet steep) mountain road from Dingle I've always had Murphy's in my life (sounds nostalgic right?) but it's only something to properly grace Dublin in the last few years. I always get the Brown Bread and Raspberry Sorbet. The Raspberry Sorbet is a flavour my Mom is extremely keen on. I remember giving out to her when she'd get excited by ice cream more than I, a child, would. Having matured (to a certain extent) I can fully appreciate her joy surrounding this flavour. I always couple it with the Caramelised Brown Bread. People sometimes question this, even the staff, but if you think about it it's a pretty great combination... Raspberry Jam on Brown Bread. I've always wondered why there wasn't a decent homemade ice cream shop in Dublin. In my hometown, there were three different homemade ice cream shops, but here in Dublin, there wasn't much choice beyond a 99. I know people think ice cream is best on a hot summer, day, but there's no reason why you can't eat it while it's raining as well. The flavor selection is great. I opted for the Guinness flavor. It's not quite the same as a sup from a point, but good nonetheless. My wife opted for a scoop of sea salt ice cream and a scoop of chocolate (recommended by friendly staff) which was a great combination. Like any food item, quality ingredients in means quality taste out. Murphy's does a good job with this and the ice cream is miles ahead of premix slopped into a machine 99 cone that most Irish are used to. Quality ingredients also means higher price. The cone is a bit pricey, but worth it as a treat since it's so good. I hope they continue to experiment with new flavors and make it worth going back to on a regular basis. It's definitely the best ice cream shop I've ever bee to in Ireland, but unfortunately it's also the only one I've ever been to . . . First of all, service was excellent! Staff was extremely friendly and were very generous with sampling their product without making you feel pressured to make any purchase. Lots of seating even during the busy weekend hours we were there. The ice cream flavours were distinct and unique. We thought that the Dingle gin and Dingle sea salt flavours were particularly delicious and different. The ice cream base is not too heavy, rather it was sort of fluffy, not overpoweringly rich, and was very satisfying. They also offer condiments and we picked the chocolate sauce, which was not sweet and overpowering; it very much complimented the ice cream. Great dessert place overall! I would highly recommend it and definitely worth a second or even third visit, even as a tourist in Ireland. read more
