Dark hot chocolate was a showstopper! Cake not so much...
Erica P.

Right now I am caught in a moral dilemma - do I give out the last of my precious Butler's Chocolates to my favorite Aunt to whom they are promised? Or do I just play the fool the next time I see her and claim that I don't remember anything about giving her any stinking chocolates? I think I'm just going to have to work on a puzzled expression because I want my Butler's Chocolates! Chun P. and I had the best dark hot chocolates of our LIVES at this location! The chocolate cake was a little bit dry though, but it was near closing time and may have been exposed to air for a while. The service was friendly - but the CHOCOLATES! WOWEE WOW! Good God! Butler's gives Christopher Elbow and Fran's a run for their money! We bought about a dozen of the Irish Whiskey Truffle Bars - and the Irish Coffee Truffle Bars. There were a few others thrown in there too. I believe they were around 1.75 Euro - a bit pricey - but DEFINITELY worth it! The quality, smoothness and richness of the chocolate was the perfect balance! Sorry Auntie! ALL MINE! Happy, happy, happy tummy!

OMG this place still tops my list of the best hot chocolate I've ever had!!! Butler's is a chain that you can find all over Ireland but this is the first Butler's location that we visited. I was completely hooked after coming here. When you walk into the shop it literally looks magical, as if you stepped into a section of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. The Whimsical chocolate creations and gold accents really excites your senses. With every hot chocolate you get a complimentary truffle. This is probably the hardest decision you will have. I of course was immediately drawn to the champagne truffle and it paired nicely with my Butler's classic hot chocolate. The hot chocolate taste of fine chocolate melted down into your cup. It is pure Heaven. There are many items you can order but you must try the hot chocolate here. You of course have all of the Truffle options and there are plenty of boxed chocolates to choose from. They even sell meltable chocolates to bring home to make your own hot chocolate or to give as a souvenir. I'm obsessed with this hot chocolate and couldn't imagine a trip to Ireland without one. This is definitely a must try during your trip!

Although a chain, this chocolate shop makes yummy pieces of heaven. Not only can you choose from rows and rows of perfectly made chocolates, you can also order it in liquid form. With Whip Cream. Real Whip Cream!

Used to live around the corner from this cafe so have an extra grá for it. First place where I actually used a loyalty card and got free coffees for my unyielding loyalty haha. Oh, and nothing beats that little thrill of picking out which free chocolate that I will get with my latte today :)

I'm not a tea or coffee person - but I am most certainly a Butler's hot chocolate fan. By far the best in Dublin - it leaves Starbucks fading into the distance. The chatham st café is a little smaller than the other ones - but there are seats and tables here, unlike the one on Stephen's Green. It's less busy too, but very centrally located. I always get a skinny hot chocolate - that's what eejits like me call a low fat one - with no cream. Somehow by getting low fat milk and holding the cream I feel I am being 'good'. I choose to ignore the fact that im drinking melted pure chocolate (no powder here my friend) mixed with milk, with chocolate shavings on top. And eating the free chocolate you get with every hot drink too! It's called Butler's chocolate café for a reason - they also serve boxed chocolates as well as individual ones. I am a sucker for their white butter pralines. I have been known to buy boxes of them...! SO if you're getting a tea or coffee sometime soon and don't know which free chocolate to avail of, I cannot recommend the white butter praline highly enough!

There are many Butlers Chocolate Cafes around Dublin and Ireland. I have been to many of them and really like visiting them whenever I can. My favourite thing to get is a hot chocolate with marshmallows, which is delicous and sweet. They have a lovely variety of chocolates which you can pick and bring home with you or have a few with your beverage as a nice treat. Also they have many gift boxes of butler's sweets, fudges and toffees for sale in the cafe. Which is ideal for tourists, a gift for someone's birthday or just as a little treat for youself!

My espresso and crispy praline chocolate yum!

Since I don't eat red meat, I was very excited to see a vegetarian Irish breakfast option. I ordered this as well as a mocha latte. Despite the rain, my friend and I sat outside since all of the indoor seating was occupied. Thankfully some heaters provided warmth for what could've been a chilly breakfast. Very quickly the lattes came out which my friend and I sipped on. They were soooo cute, mine had the design of a little bear on top! The latte itself was hot and not too sweet, the perfect start to the experience. After a few short minutes, the food came out! Immediately, my friend and I dug in. It was honestly everything I expected and even more! There were no weak links on the plate and there were generous portions as well. I sat there for a while working my way through my delicious plate!! Overall, I was very happy with my experience at Beanhive. It was an aesthetic cafe that also provided a hearty breakfast. I would definitely recommend.

When we're traveling, we typically try to only go to any business once…read more Why? So much to see! So much food to try! We broke this rule with The Bald Barista. It was just that good. The first day we arrived to Dublin, I had a bit of a headache. I sent my husband in search of coffee and a bite in the hopes of warding off the headache. He brought back a tuna melt and mocha from The Bald Barista. Both were excellent. The tuna melt was herbaceous and flavorful and the mocha was the perfect blend or rich chocolate and strong espresso. So, a few days later when my mom arrived and was hoping for coffee and a bite, I said--I've got just the place! On that visit, we enjoyed our coffee and food in house. You order at the counter where you enter and if you're dining in, you simply take the stairs to the dining room and they'll bring you both your food and coffee. This time, I ordered the same coffee (why mess with a good thing) and a yogurt with everything (fruit, nuts, seeds--the works!). The shop itself is cute, warm, and inviting. The service is top notch with beautifully friendly folks working in here (including the Bald Barista himself). If you're in Dublin and are looking for an exemplary cuppa and some tasty bites served with a smile--this is your spot. Get to it!

They prepare and serve up coffee as a city better than any other city in the world. Sorry Seattle, Portland, its the truth. As a full fledge coffee nerd/snob I am looking for great coffee nothing more. Also if they don't roast their own beans and they are just serving someone else's coffee they will never get above a 3 star from me. I am looking strictly at the coffee and the customer service in my reviews. Accents was fantastic. When I walked in the Barista, a pretty little red headed Irish woman was doing some spectacular latte art on a Mocha, she smiled and asked me what I would like. I order just a regular Latte. They do not roast their own beans, but she was out of coffee in the grinder, she reached for a new sealed bag and I caught the name, McCabe's. I was unfamiliar so afterward I looked them up. here is the link if anyone is interested. (https://mccabecoffee.com) Local award winning Cork roaster. I watched the Barista, fill the grinder and then told me it would be a minute as she needed to dial in the espresso. I shook my head in a circle like I didn't get it but okay. She had it dialed in after 3 shots. looked like 18 in and 36 out. She was a pro, steamed my milk while the shot pulled in about 24 seconds. I ordered my drink to go but it was still presented with great art and a smile. Told me where the sugar and lids were but suggested I tried it before i added anything, that the espresso is very good. I tasted it and said, "You are right, needs nothing" and it didn't. BEST LATTE I HAVE HAD THIS TRIP TO DUBLIN. I am breaking my own rule here, I can because they are my rules, they don't roast but they use fantastic local Micro-roasted beans and prepare my drink to perfection. Don't miss this little gem the in Dublin. 5 Stars.
