Some of these people at this company must be inept at listening to instructions. Twice I specifically said do not ship this door until August 1 (two months out), and twice they agreed to this. What do they do? I get it a month and a half before I wanted it, and now I have no place to put this giant box for 2 months. Customer service needs to figure out how to do basic things. read more

Changing my review from a 2 star to 3star after being called by support and speaking with Beth. She helped work out all of my concerns and corrected any issues. I was upset to see that the door without the molding would skip over the floor latch despite the door being an out-swing, obviously with the molding attached this wouldn't happen but for the price of the unit i don't think that should happen. Another concern i had was the gap between the door and door frame is 2 inches, so to cover the sheetrock/door frame transition, cover the gap, and have the molding secured to the door firmly, the 3.5inch molding they sent was not going to work. Luckily Beth pointed out that i received the wrong sized molding and for free of charge is sending me the correct ones which is 5inch. I also felt that the website was misleading in showing you exactly what you will get, i ordered a plywood core paint grade unit with the intent to stain it fully by hand, unfortunately the unit had surfaces that were MDF with a maple type wood banded around the front edges only. Two completely different surfaces and not what was shown in the picture upon checkout. Beth acknowledged that in the future they could try to explain exactly what you will receive a little better and more clearly. I was curious as to why the door had an extra 1inch of room at its widest point of being open and Beth explained this was to prevent pinch points, especially for young children and thats something i can appreciate having young children myself. She even texted me a demonstration video showing me how to correct the door from opening past 90 degrees which was very helpful. Having someone call me to answer all my questions and address my concerns was very helpful and i could tell this is a company that really values their customers input just from our conversation alone. While i didn't get discount or partial refund of any kind for being mislead as to what the final product would be (if did id probably of given this 4 stars) this unit is still high quality just not what i thought i was buying and still very overpriced in my opinion. I mean $200 for their secret book lock, the same book that sells on amazon for $30 with a metal cable, handle and some other installation materials. Sorry definitely not $200. I think the 2 cabinets doors that came with this unit were $200-300 and the cabinet door handles are $29.99, you could get the same ones from the hardware store for less than $5 ... But hey 5 star for customer service for sure. Its still a good sturdy product for anyone willing to pay the price tag and have it all done and delivered but personally next time ill probably just build it myself. read more

BEWARE THIS COMPANY!!!! First they sent me a door that was over 2 inches off square, then they strung me along promising an answer for MONTHS. Then they suggested I make my doorframe dangerously off square to match the wonky door. And now they have stopped answering my emails and I am forced to take this to court in order to get my multi-thousand dollar door to even function as a door at all. This door was installed in MARCH. It is my bedroom door and it is not functional. It doesn't open and close without more effort than my disabled wife often has. This company has created a serious access and fire hazard in my home, and they want me to fix it by creating an unsightly trip hazard too. They lied to us about how they were "helping" us, saying that they were having professionals make a video specific to our situation, and then sending what was clearly a generic boilerplate video that didn't address the actual problem. Multiple carpentry professionals have explained to them that this is not a feasible plan, but they refuse to even consider any other options. They talk to professionals like they think we are stupid children who don't know how to check if something is square or not. They even told us they won't sent a new door because they can't ensure it will be square either - they admit they can not back the merchantability of their product. We hate dealing with the courts, but this company has backed us into a corner and left us no other options. Don't buy from this company. Buy from someone who follows the law and guarantees merchantability. Unless you want to have a funhouse door with no customer support. read more

BE AWARE. Delivery is a nightmare. They won't give you a time frame...just 8 am to 5pm. So... just prepare to take the whole day off and sit and wate. I'm 72 years old and live on the second floor, no elevator. The door weighs 200 lbs. They won't bring it up. They want ME to bring it up. On my walker, I suppose? I got my neighbor downstairs to accept delivery... NOW they won't put it inside the door. Oh, I take that back, they will bring it inside the door for $100 more. Unless you've got two able-bodied people sitting around your condo all day waiting for this delivery to show up.... buy a hidden door from Lowes or something. Take a pass on Murphy Doors! read more

We purchased a Murphy cabinet door. The packaging was very good.  The door arrived in good condition. The contractor was able to install it using the instructions that came with the door.  We later called because it seemed to float open too easily, and the customer service was great.  They could tell us over the phone how to adjust the screw to alleviate the issue. The top trim piece was too short, but when we called, the correct size was immediately provided. The weak link in the door would be the finish.  It isn't very even.  We might have our cabinet maker try to fix it.  I think we would have ordered it unfinished and just had him finish it had we realized how it was going to look.  Let me be clear, though.  It's not terrible; it's just not as good as our other cabinets, so it stands out in comparison. We like the door a lot and are glad that we purchased it.  If you can figure out how to include a latch that can be opened from either side mechanically (without requiring electricity), that would be a great feature. I also want to mention that the information on the website showing clearances and all of the options was great.  I felt like I could make informed decisions about our door, and then being able to talk directly to someone just made the ordering process that much more sure. read more

My hidden door unit is 7' wide. I have been licensed and building since 1991. This is A1 quality and pricey. My customer has over 6k into this and is happy. It is beautiful. I installed it and over-lapped the side trim. The center overlaps and I left 1/16th" on top. It locks too--and it costs money. In 30 years this is one of the best projects. Hire a pro to install. The instructions are excellent. Expensive--yes, slow--a little. Worth it! I knew what I wanted, ordered online and didn't need a baby-sitter. They notified me when and delivered when promised. The product is what I expected but could have cleaner lines. Costumer service is terrible. They appear to be understaffed and communicate horribly. After running into an issue with install. I contacted installation services. At this point I was told further research was required. The next day I received an email saying the issue was discovered and J would be contacted shortly. Apparently shortly means a week later after I had called 3 times left one message on machine and another with another representative who wanted to connect me with the original representative. The last communication I was to receive an email with further instructions but I did not receive said instructions until I called back yet again. Fair product, terrible service! read more

Recently a customer asked me to custom build a secret bookcase door. After some research, we settled on the murphy door hinge kit. It was complicated from the beginning to order, but finally placed my order. I was a little ticked to find out that it shipped by snail mail, even though I had to pay $10 for shipping... that kinda sucks! Anyway, once opening the package I noticed that it did not come with any instructions of any kind. I had noticed this on one of the links while ordering where it said you only got instructions if you order directly from murphy door ?? There was a sticker on the package directing me to their website for instructions, but it wasn't a good link. I called customer service to get help. There I was informed that murphy door does not tell you how to build your door... I didn't need help building the door, I needed help figuring out how to install THEIR hinges! Then she went on to tell me that my package should NOT have had the sticker on it and told me again that they do not tell you how to build your door. After a brief discussion, she finally agreed to send me a link. When the link came, it showed me how to install the hinges on THEIR door using "Pre-drilled" holes and never once gave the first measurement! After hours of research, I came across a link from 2013, from "Murphy Door", showing HOW to DIY your own secret door! The instructions DO exist, only they refuse to give them to you. After 1 phone call and multiple emails, I decided that the person I was dealing with was the most useless and rude customer service rep that could exist! To spite all the headache getting started, we built our door with great sucess! It took a little fine tuning, but that was expected. NOW, the cheap plastic tool they send with the kit to remove the door... BROKE the very first time we used it!! Since we had so much trouble with murphy door, I have done some more research and found other options for WAY less money that do the same exact thing... I have decided that you have to pay for the murphy door name to get this product. As far as I'm concerned, the name isn't worth much!! I already have 2 more customers wanting hidden doors, I will be using another product!! read more

Meh. Mine is not well hidden. The gaps are too big. Didn't come with a lock. I probably spent 2k between the door and professional installation. I think a lot of my dissatisfaction could have been avoided or addressed by their customer service. If you get one, you want one that swings in. Not out. I will most likely replace with a regular door. read more

BUYER BEWARE: Purchase a shelf/door from this company. After receiving it, Murphy door admits they have sent me and "old door", and that modifications will need to be made (at my cost). They send me the incorrect parts for the modification and I am told "sorry that is all we can do"! Beware! Murphy door does not stand behind their product! This is the response given when I inquired about the incorrect parts being sent to me: Unfortunately Brian, we aren't able to do anything else for you. We have sent you the wood and we talked about how even with us sending the wood, we can do our best to get you exact pieces but there still may need to be modifications done on your end.
