Lets just say you don't go to the Mural Room for the food, you go for the view. I ordered the short rib panini and about 10 minutes later our server came back and informed me that is was not available. I decided to go with the 8oz burger medium for $21. My son had also ordered a burger medium from the kids menu at $10. When they finally arrived at the table about 20 minutes later, they were both the same size and cooked to death. My wife ordered a cup of the carrot soup and the steak frites. The carrot soup was thick paste of water and carrots, not even a soup consistency. It was bland and tasteless. The chermoula sauce that was on my wifes steak looked like frozen spinach, not even a chermoula sauce. Our server told her that it was cheese. read more

Just returned to our rooms on May 18, 2021 from the GTL Mural Room after what is arguably the worst dining experiences in our lifetime. our server (that term is loose and generous) was flip and thought he was being cute and clever when we asked about the status of our meal ordered literally an hour earlier, and he replied it "would be out soon, and besides, where else are you going to go?" This is a quote. Then he noted to us that an adjacent table seated well after us was to get their meals before ours. we did nothing whatsoever to deserve this response Our food arrived cold at which point we had enough of our servers attitude and the poor quality of the food. We left the restaurant without finishing and engaged the Assistant Manager on our way out. We do understand this was only night #2 for the season, but that does not excuse the servers attitude. We are NOT the type of Customers that raise a stink every time we don't like some thing, but we do expect better of GTLC, The Mural and especially the Vail Company. The server we had tonight does not deserve to share space with the other hard-working waitstaff and we did not deserve the treatment he demonstrated in the nearly 2 hours at The Mural. A single star rating is an undeserved exaggeration. this is the first time I have posted a review to this platform but that should tell you how insulted we were tonight read more

The location can't be beat, both in terms of the outside view of Grand Teton, and the western lodge aesthetic. The people who waited on us were very attentive and reactive but unfortunately the food they served us was both expensive and tasteless. We ordered Alaskan salmon and it was clearly farmed salmon. And the creamy lemon wine sauce tasted not of lemon or wine, but of sugar. But dining options are limited in that part of the world. On the plus side, the butter was shaped like a moose. read more

We ate dinner at the Mural Room twice on a recent vacation to Grand Teton. The views here, with the restaurant's full length windows and the Grand Teton range rising sharply in the distance, can't be best. We timed both our dinners to coincide with sunset. The Mural Room is quite popular, so you'll need to make reservations as soon as they are available (90 days in advance of your visit). All meals come with bread (focaccia and a yeast roll) and butter in the shape of a moose. For entrees on our two visits, I had the spaghetti squash and trout as entrees. The trout was excellent and came with two sides -- the mashed potatoes here are a huge portion but in my view are a not to be missed menu. For dessert, I would recommend the Huckleberry galette or the Swiss Roll s'more, which are both unique (and somewhat non traditional) menu items. The s'more came with a butterscotch marshmallow (I love butterscotch and it's not a flavor I would have associated with a s'more, but it was an excellent pairing!) The dining room atmosphere is elegant and has an old world feel. The Mural Room draws its name from a series of portraits on the wall depicting settlers and fur traders, created by an art professor from Syracuse University (his work was selected through a national competition run by park benefactor John D Rockefeller Jr.). I loved eating here -- it's beautiful and very convenient if you are staying in the park or still there in the evening hours. The dining room also offers a breakfast buffet. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. The girls at the check-desk had no idea what they were doing. We made reservations months ago and asked for a window table. Checked in an hour ahead and said we were in the bar. We checked in again at our reservation time and they had us step aside to get the table ready but after seating 5 other parties we asked what the problem was. We were finally seated at a table by the entrance...3 rows back from the window. It would have had a nice view but they refused to raise the thick shades when many asked them to do so. One party was so angry they got up and left saying this is not the dining experience you advertise. Don't believe the pictures you see of the fabulous view from the Mural Room. It was too difficult for them to push a button to raise the shade. Our reservation was at 7:30. Our salad was served an hour later and our entries came just before 9:00! The prime rib was ordered rare and it came well done and cold, as was the sides. My bison strip was dry, tough and cold with absolutely no glacé sauce as described. Our waiter, Steve, was very good and did his best. He was the one who finally raised the shades for the guests (close to closing time!) and apologized profusely for our terrible entries. He was very professional, removed our plates immediately and charged us for our wine and salads. We were so looking forward to this dinner but, my goodness, what a disappointment. read more

I'll review the food later. For now, a word of advice to Shawn, the Assistant Manager. Shawn, if you're going to hold a premium table for a VIP guest who DID NOT make a reservation, #1 Do not describe him to your host as a single man with chubby lips dining alone. #2 Do not let other guests waiting to be seated overhear that table 113 is to be saved for said VIP. #3 Do not let the guests who heard that table 113 was reserved for the VIP WITHOUT A RESERVATION see that the table was not used from 6pm to 730 where upon an older couple, the man WITHOUT chubby lips were seated. As the Assistant Manager, you are supposed to take care of ALL the guests, not just the VIP's or to look at it another way, EVERY guest is a VIP. The host did his job. Our server, Linda, did hers. Her Assistant Waiter, a friendly young man from Romania did his. Overall service was good. read more

Awesome food and fantastic service! Do recommend coming at 5:00 pm for dinner so you don't miss anything !

We stayed at Jackson Lake Lodge and had dinner at Mural Room two nights in a row. This score is more like an average of the two nights' experience. First night we went, the reservation was at 8pm. For whatever reason, they ran late and we were not seated until 8:25pm, not a very good idea with hungry and grumpy kids. While the idea of Mural Room is the view of Teton range, we were seated at the back of the restaurant that oversee the front parking lot. Simply put, the view was not impressive. Our server was good but I think he had too many tables to take care of so it was a bit rush. He forgot our order on soup. I ordered the elk stripe medium rare, I felt it was a little bit overcooked but not enough to send it back. We also had the trout and it was very very well done. Tender, most, the sauce was great. Not to mention the portion was very generous too! The cesar salad was average but it was fresh which was most important. On our second night, reservation was at 6:45. Given the previous night's experience, we got there early and this time around we were seated within 5 mins. Not only that, our table was at the prime spot right in front of the big windows overseeing the range, perfect view! Our server Medaline (sp?) was super sweet and friendly, and coincidentally she came from the same city we are from (over 1000 miles away from Grand Teton!) so we had some fun chats! I had the prime rib, the meat was good but the crust was quite salty. Wife and kids again had the trout and salad and they still enjoyed it a lot. We had the chocolate dessert and it was very pretty. The two evening experiences were quite different, with second night being far superior. Food quality wise I think it's average, but the staff and view overall made up for it. read more

Ate here on 5/25/2018 This place should be renamed "The Mediocre Room" based on how their food was. I am giving this review a 2/5 only because our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. Thank you, Cody. Appetizer 1: Corn Trout Chowder. This was the best course of the meal, good flavor, filling. Appetizer 2: Tomato and Motzerella w/ balsamic. This was grabage... I've had better from a grocery store. Entre 1: Trout Special. The trout was dry and overcooked, with the best part being the rice that it sat on. Entre 2: Pork chop w/ cornbread. The pork chop was also overcooked, dry, and the cornbread was... Not cornbread. I've lived in the south all my life - I know cornbread. And that brings us to the worst, most insulting part of the meal - dessert. The strawberry ganash type dish was completely frozen solid with no flavor... How do you make strawberry ice cream bitter? Leave it to these guys at The Mediocre Room. Had I not been eating with my parents (the type of people that just deal with it) then I would not have paid for the 2nd appetizer, either entre, or desert. In fact, I would have left after the 2nd appetizer. Make better food or lower your prices. Don't advertise yourself as a nice, 4 star restaurant commanding a $45 entree price just because of the view (which is amazing, I'll give you that). I left a comment card and will not be coming back here unless some serious changes are made. read more

We were delightfully surprised at the quality of food and service the evening we dined at this establishment . Our waiter was very amicable and equally knowledgeable about the pairing of our wine along with our entree. The Caesar salad was unique given the combination of the lettuce with smoked trout. My husband appreciated the mozzarella and tomato salad. The bison steak was outstanding. We were amazed that a restaurant of this quality was available within such a rustic lodge. read more

A mural of fools and fops Snooty and way overpriced, this cafeteria-cum-fine dining restaurant ipitomizes institutional food with fancy names at a high price. Clearly catering to the beautiful people who wouldn't actually know a good meal if it bit them in the ass ( like the bears should). Rushed service with a waiter who couldn't care less. For us, price was no object, but I need to get value for money and it certainly wasn't here. If you want to watch the wealthy tourists and their slovenly table habits and uncontrolled sporn, this is the joint. If you really want a truly great meal in a great slice of Americana, go next door to the real cafeteria, the Pioneer Grill. It was actually a foodie paradise of great, fresh, scratch made meals in a really cool vibe dating back to the 50's. read more

The view from the Mural restaurant is spectacular; however the food leaves much to be desired. A better option is ordering take out from the neighboring grill within the lodge and going outside and enjoying the view from there. read more

After being seated, our party waited 23 minutes to receive water. After placing our order with difficulty due to menu shortages, we waited an additional 51 mins until our salads were served. The main course was served 41 minutes after our salads. During the periods between courses we had to flag a waiter for additional water. Once the main course was served, the waiter had to be reminded for dinnerware. The main course was not prime meat but rather poor quality feed lot trash that could be easily mistaken for shoe leather. I'm short, go to Dairy Queen in Jackson for a superior meal and save your self $300 dollars. read more

The food and the service were both excellent. Having just come from Yellowstone where the ding options were extremely limited and not that great, I was in need of a good meal. Prime rib with cream spinach and rice pilaf were excellent. My wife had the burger which was very good and baked brie appetizer was also very tasty. Not cheap but what you would expect from resort fine dining restaurant. There are other more casual options at the lodge and a bar/grill as well as takeout. read more

What a disappointment! We traveled here several years ago and had the most amazing meal. This restaurant is expensive which I don't mind if the food is wonderful. My husband ordered the bison which tasted like it had been precooked and was so tough he could barely eat it. I had the elk which was also tough. Last time we were here the elk melted in your mouth. They used to open the blinds all together when the sun set and the entire restaurant would clap. Such a fun experience. No more. Some blinds were opened others not. Not a big deal anymore. We won't be back! Don't waste your precious vacation time and money for a huge let down! read more

As many other diners have remarked, the views are truly amazing. Really spectacular. The service is also fantastic - friendly, energetic and exceeded expectations for a place that would have seasonal staff. It was a relaxed meal in pace, so if you're in a rush you may want to mention up front. The food was good, but just OK. I had the vegetarian Neapolitan for a starter and it was essentially just a portabello mushroom with a slice of tomato on top and a single shaving of squash. Lacked unique taste or wow factor which I would have expected given the caliber of the restaurant. They also were out of heirloom tomatoes which was disappointing as the other dish I wanted also had heirloom tomatoes, and they had replaced with roma. For some odd reason this irked me because heirloom tomatoes are much tastier (and expensive) but the prices did not change as a result (despite many of the prices being specific to 5 cents vs. most restaurants which would round to the nearest 50 cents). I'm probably over-reacting on this point. Note: tables for two are located immediately next to the windows, then tables for four then tables for six. If possible, go in a smaller group to sit by the windows - and bring binoculars to see the elk an moose wander in the flat lands in front of you. read more

I stopped by here for lunch last week with my fiance and her parents while driving around Grand Teton National Park. After looking over the menu here and at other places in the lodge, we eventually decided on the mural dining room. Once inside we saw that it was aptly named with large murals on the walls of one side of the dining room. However that was easily overshadowed by the huge windows on the other side which had magnificent views of the Tetons. It was some of the best scenery I have ever seen while eating a meal. For my lunch entree I decided to go with the buffalo flank steak salad. Before the salad got to the table we were served some bread of which I really enjoyed the small piece of pepper bread that I had. It was a crustier bread with a large amount of pepper on the top which gave it a nice little spice. Once the salad made it to the table I knew that I was going to be pretty happy with it as it was dressed nicely and had hazelnuts on it. I don't think that I have ever had a salad with hazelnuts on it before but it worked quite well actually. The star of the dish was the Buffalo flank steak though was very well seasoned and cooked to medium well. Personally I thought that it almost tasted like sweet and spicy beef jerky which I love. My only complaint about it was that there wasn't any more it! The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. This was one of the better meals that I had in the area with the food being good and the views amazing! read more

Good views, attentive staff. At the very least, the Mural Room in Jackson Lake Lodge could've had air conditioning. It was sweltering and even our server was sweating at 7pm. It was terribly uncomfortable! To make matters worse, the prime rib was just too badly cooked, chewy, tough and tasteless. As if that wasn't enough, the broccolini was undercooked, ensuring one wouldn't get their fiber in. All this at an unfair, steep price. Will not be visiting again. Please do not waste your money here. read more

This restaurant is under rated. We came from Yellowstone lodges and restaurants. They have excellent service and allowed dine in without reservation. Lunch menu is good and hamburger is tasty. The view is great and no comparison. They served Starbucks coffee with excellent dessert menu. From the beginning to the end is a five star experience in here. I recommend this restaurant to everyone. read more

For breakfast, we love this place. The buffet is really the way to go. You can do the healthy style and eat light or go full boogie and get omelettes and waffles. We waited for 80 minutes till the entree is served, no matter how we push, and the steak is fucking cold......so they offered warm up the steak, it took about 15 mins and apparently warming up process is done in a microwave oven......worst place ever, if you ever have a second choice, don't come, also incredibly overpriced. The view was spectacular the food, not worth what you pay. For $48, when you order meat it should be rare or at least medium rare not medium going on over cooked. We came here for a family celebration and were sat down very quickly at our reservation time. The negative about our experience was the service. We waited quite a while to be served our drinks. It seemed like the staff didn't take the time to know us, even though it was a small and Supposedly fancy restaurant. Our I ndividual meals were brought to another person at the table that hadn't ordered that meal. Our appetizers only came a few minutes before our entrées. We had to wait a long time to get our drinks. They have plenty of staff so I do not think that was the reason for the delays. the food, though, was excellent. It tasted fresh and with many flavors. I had the trout and the broccolini and sweet potatoes were delicious. The kids plates were hotdogs, but the buns were hard. They were out of fries, but their chips tasted, homemade. The views from the windows in the dining room were amazing, but we probably would not return just for that. For the price of the food and the location I was expecting a lot more. read more

The prices they charge are exorbitant. It would be okay if the food was decent, but it's not. Bread, over salty. The "risotto" was not risotto. It was rice a roni with some parm cheese shaved on top. Seriously gross. And they had the nerve to charge $42. The broccoli cheese soup had no flavor. The trout Caesar salad was just okay. The dessert was subpar. Only good thing? Super nice waiter who was kind and tried his best. Thank god for wine. read more

I love this place. I've loved it for the 30 plus years I've been going to GTNP. The food has always been wonderful, the view is of course, unparalleled, and the service is always gracious. Yes, the servers at the end of the season are winding up their tour, but if you had to deal with some of the self-absorbed tourists we always see on our trips, you'd frazzle a bit too. Had a lovely slice of prime rib, cooked perfectly with a bit of crust on the outside. The veggies (asparagus) could have been a larger serving (3 tiny spears, more of a garnish), but the salads and the truffled potatoes made up for it. After all, who cares about health if you're eating prime rib? As for the prices, well, we spent less here for two glasses of wine, two salads, two PR entrees and a dessert than we did for two plates of spaghetti and meatballs with salad, wine and no dessert in Jackson. So there. Kudos to the staff and the chefs. I will be back again and again. read more

Horrible food. The asparagus soup was made from a can. The asparagus, bousin, field greens and poached egg flat bread sandwich was served on severely burnt flat bread. They remade it and served it with 3/4 raw flatbread. The asparagus was tough and the Boursin nearly no-existent. My husband's ruben was made with ground corned beef. Very disappointing. You can't ignore the beauty of the place. You're looking out huge picture windows at the Grand Tetons. We went just before sunset, and it really was pretty. But this is a restaurant, not a scenic overlook. And the food and service were not good. And the prices are outlandishly high given the low quality of the food. Lets deal with service. Staff was friendly, and seemed to be enjoying their jobs. But we had two things happen that make me question their competence. First off, our (admittedly friendly and attentive) waiter took our order. My wife is a vegetarian, so when she inquired if their ravioli dish was vegetarian, he said, "Its not just vegetarian, its vegan!". See ordered it, and it arrived, with the ravioli swimming in butter. My wife isn't vegan, but how does one make a mistake like that in a place that's charging $20 for a simple pasta dish? Second, my wife and I both ordered salads, and that left our daughter sitting there with nothing while we started to eat. So we stopped the server who had given us water, and asked for bread. He told us that they had run out of bread. Wow. That's not good. But what happened next was even more disturbing. Several minutes later, we noticed other tables being served bread! Very, very irritated that this point, I sure hope the food is good..... Nope. The food sucked. SUCKED. Seriously. I ordered trout that was supposed to come on a bed of risotto and vegetables. The trout was way over cooked, dry and flavorless. I had to move the piece of fish to discover the tiny scoop of risotto and bitter vegetables underneath. Are you kidding me? This dish cost like $26! Awful. My wife's ravioli was passable, nothing to write home about. But it was swimming in 1/4 inch of butter and oil. Why? My wife ordered it because she was interested in trying a vegan dish, and what she got was a buttery slop fest. Our daughter picked at her food, and was unimpressed. My wife and I had not been to Jackson Lake Lodge in a decade. Our experience at The Mural Room was similar to our overall stay: Shabby and overpriced. I don't dole out 1 star reviews very often, but this place certainly deserves one. read more

Pretty disappointing. The views are amazing, but the food is meh - and the prices are steep. They try to be a high end restaurant, but the food and service fall short. Absolutely wonderful dinner! First of all, the view is unbelievable, and we were fortunate to have gotten a window seat. Our server, Justus, was very attentive, and his recommendations for sides and wine pairings were spot-on, complementing the entrees perfectly. We started with the baked brie, which was delicious but sweet (reminding us a bit of apple pie, it could have been served as a dessert). My wife ordered the bison strip loin medium rare with grilled broccolini and white bean cassoulet, and I ordered the trout with romesco sauce, burgundy mushrooms and cassoulet - both were outstanding. Our dessert was a Greek orange cake with a caramel topping - also delicious. Oh yeah - one of the best Old Fashioneds I've ever had. The meal compared favorably with the better meals we had in Jackson, which is high praise. We honestly don't get the negative reviews. read more

In short: waste of money on bland, under-portioned food. We were a party of four, each ordering different plates, two seafood and two vegetarian. As soon as the two vegetarian dishes arrived, the small portions were apparent. Both meals left their respective diners wanting more, which at $20 a plate is unacceptable. This was just a preview as the ultimate disappointment was the scallops, three of them with a piece of bok choi and five bites of rice, for the price of almost $40. This underscores up the quality problem. If the food was flavorful or creative, the small portion and the price would have made sense, but the food was bland. Bok choi on white rice with no sauce or seasoning is not exactly tasty, or filling. And the scallops themselves were nothing special. This problem was echoed around the table. For desert we tried to order the creme brûlée only to have our server return to tell us they ran out. The service itself was not bad. Our server was a good guy but they definitely have a system issue. Our table bread arrived after our food, as dull as the entrees, but since we were all still hungry due to the lack of quantity and quality of the actual meal, it at least filled us up. (We were hungry an hour later.). The bill came in at $200 after tip. For that much money, we expected much more. read more

The service was friendly and good, but the food was just ok and the prices were high; $30-$40 for most entrees. They advise to book ahead as it gets busy, and so we had to choose from two available times, neither of which were convenient. When we got there we discovered there was plenty of room inside the restaurant. It makes me think they are managing the number of simultaneous diners based on what the kitchen can handle, rather than the dining room itself. This is unfortunate because it contributes to a lacklustre atmosphere with a lot of empty tables. They don't identify if particular items can be made gluten free or not, but our server was able to advise on this. Unfortunately the prime rib, without any sauce is extremely bland. It was quite disappointing. Won't be going back. read more

While the food may not warrant 4 stars outside of a National Park, this place has decent food at reasonable prices. The service was fast and friendly. Mural Room - This is the view out the windows of the restaurant. - American Near Me - Moran, Wyoming

Most people who visit National Parks know that the restaurant food available is very expensive and lackluster, and is usually similar fare at every eating establishment in the National Park. We found something different when visiting Grand Teton National Park. Jackson Lake Lodge has three restaurants. There is a fast-food grille, a restaurant I didn't go into, and the Mural Room, which is the "fanciest", and offers incredible views of Mt. Moran and the Teton Range. The lunch menu is rather small, and the prices are expensive (to be expected in a National Park), but the presentation of the food was a work of art, and the unique selections was a welcome change. I had the chili relleno, which was presented unlike any chili relleno I've ever had, and was absolutely delicious. My husband had the turkey wrap, and was very impressed with the taste. Service was quite good, which is always hit-and-miss when you have seasonal, and oftentimes international, employees. Although we didn't eat dinner there, I imagine it was just as good. If you want to splurge a bit, try the Mural Room. Can't beat the view, either. read more
