If you are on China Lake and need a quick lunch this is your spot. The carne asada breakfast burrito is very good and very large.

The gentleman who took our orders was nice and very patient! The ambiance was nothing special-typical diner. The toilets could use good cleaning, too, but the bathrooms were generally okay. We stopped here on our way to Mammoth from San Diego, and we would return!

I had the Country Benedict, which is a sausage patty and an egg on top of a biscuit and covered with gravy, served with hash browns. The egg was over easy, and the yolk, when broken, blended deliciously with the gravy. The hash browns were crisp and fresh - very good. The biscuit was buttered, which was a pleasant surprise. They pay attention to small details like that here. Mr. P enjoyed his burger, which came with fresh onions, tomato and lettuce on a specialty bun. The burger was smashed, yet very juicy. His fries were golden brown crisp and cut thick. He liked them a lot. This was easily the best diner breakfast I've had in a long while. Looking forward to stopping in again when I'm nearby in the future. I am full and happy.

We ate here and at Ale's steakhouse across town and they are very similar to me in terms of value,…read morethough they do differ. First, the good. It's nice that there is a restaurant in town with fresh fish. Our server was awesome. We were going to a tiki themed place (which you should 100% try to find if you are in town) afterwards and the server shared some cool info about it when we mentioned it. I ordered fish and chips, against my better judgement, and it was just OK. I'm a fan of beer batter that builds up more than a thin crust on the fish, and this wasn't that. On top of that, the cod was a little over cooked (a bit of a theme for the other Ale's as well). That said, the flavor profile was good and their tartar sauce was on point. I had the option for seasoned fries or steak fries and opted for the steak fries to save some sodium intake. I'd probably shorten my life slightly and get the seasoned fries next time. My wife had a salad that was very similar to the other Ale's -- lots of iceberg lettuce and overcooked chicken. We also had the clam chowder, which had a good consistency but was just a touch fishy. I still enjoyed it, though. They have a pretty good selection of beer and other drinks, as well. The decor is informal and overall I liked the place. Between the two Ale's I'd probably give a slight nod to the original, but they are very similar restaurants other than the focus on seafood here.

Just gotta drop a star because our waitress was a bit short and irritable, and the food was really nothing crazy amazing. Ended up having the shrimp and lobster fries appetizer which was pretty yummy, the shrimp on it is the best part. Even the kids loved the fries and ended up also splitting a chicken sandwich that was pretty basic, but cooked well and had a tasty bun. Wife and I split a pastrami burger, and gotta say the pastrami was really good, that was a great choice. It had a bunch of creamy cheese sauce on it as well and was gone in seconds. Ambiance was fine, place was really clean, and service was SUPER QUICK. One critique is when we asked for extra plates to split out food, the waitress told us they were out of plates because they used them all on the party that was in there. This was at max a party of 10, and the restaurant had to only have 10 more people in it total. Kinda weird to be out of plates at 20% capacity... she did end up getting us additional "trays" to use. Totally fine, just a bit odd. All in all, if you need some quick grub, stop in here on your way through. Price was pretty fair, 2 burgers, and an appetizer with ice teas for $50. Decent.

You can walk up to the counter to order but it's clear from the two huge screens that you could walk into when you go through the door that they want you to put in your own order. Usually, someone behind the counter will call and hand us our cups for drinks. But once I had to walk over after a few minutes and ask. It didn't go great but eventually I got the two cups. They have a self serve with a nice selection of sodas and teas and lemonade. And there's a great garnish section with pickled jalapenos. There's catsup, salt, pepper, etc. It's an interesting setup for where you sit. There are booths next to the window, and a really nice outside area. In the center, there are 2 top booths, but I really like them. It's easy to get in and out of them. There are longer booths around the corner on the way to the bathroom if you have a larger group. The women's room has always been very clean and well maintained. We usually show up after 1pm for lunch, so you'd think the bathroom would be running out of toilet paper, but no! Really grateful they opened up in Ridgecrest. It's a nice place to take a break.
