I can't rave about Mulheron Tree Experts enough. We had the giant DC tree in front of our house go down on the house in the wind storm March 2. There were numerous holes in the roof from branches going through. We tried waiting for DC to take the tree down, but on Monday with rain expected Tuesday, DC said they could not get to it until the following weekend. Panicked because of the rain, I called Mulheron who I was told owned the giant crane that was needed to get this tree off the house. They came right over, looked at the job and had their wonderful crew there by 2:30pm. My husband and I along with friends and neighbors watched all afternoon and evening as the Mulheron crew removed the tree from the house. It was like a ballet up on the roof. They finished after dark putting the tarp on the roof so we were ready for the rain the next day. They could not clean up that night, but they were there the next day to cut up and remove the trunk which was laying on the lawn and also to clean up branches etc. They were SO WONDERFUL. Unfortunately we did not have the best experience with Mulheron. We had them out to assess an old tulip poplar struck by lightning years before and the company gave us assurances the tree was healthy aside from a few dead and diseased branches they recommended for pruning (at a mid-range price point compared to other companies). They pruned the tree, and a few months later a large dead branch fell 70ft from the tree smashing onto our car and nearly missing my husband and infant daughter. In addition, they left a complete and utter mess in our driveway and lawn when they pruned and did zero cleanup. We recently had the tree removed by a SUPERB company, Alvarado's Tree service, and as these pics show the tree was dying and blackened from within. I wouldn't go with Mulheron again in light of the fact that their recommendation put a lot of people and structures needlessly at risk. read more

The work they did on my trees was well done overall. They cleaned up their operation and were very friendly/responsive. I gave this company three stars for financial reasons: First - After receiving their quote, I asked them if I could pay them in two installments. Graciously, they accepted my request. Therefore, when I got the bill, I sent it back to them in one envelope with two checks (with two different dates). I was expecting them to cash them on the days notes - I even emailed them to ask them to do so. Not only did they cash it a month late, they cashed both within a week of each other - thereby just about draining my bank account. I won't be asking for their services again. read more

Ed Mulheron came by same day I called and was knowledgeable and reliable.

If I could give a "zero" I would. I just got off a call Ed Mulheron and he was very rude. Worst customer service I've EVER experienced. Background: I received a quote for services last year, and this year I wanted to proceed based on the description of services in the quote (after verifying that the quote was still good). As next steps, I communicated via email with Kathy Dillman, the person in charge of scheduling, and inquired about a time and date for scheduling the services. I didn't receive a follow up via email, nor a voicemail, to establish a date and time. I then had to go out of town on a family emergency. When I returned, I received an invoice for $400-plus via email from another employee by the name of Maria Jeffers. I inquired about this because I had never established a time or date for the work to be performed. Also, if the work had been performed as I understood the quote, it would have been very obvious from the height of the tree from my main level, among other things. They didn't even leave a note to say they stopped by. Maria told me that Kathy left a message for me "TELLING" me when their crew would come out. I explained that I had no such voicemail and I would not have agreed to someone telling me when they'd come out because I wanted to be present to ensure the work was done appropriately. Since then, they've send me multiple invoices and we've had back and forth over several months about scheduling someone to come out and show me what work was done, AND to address the fact they they are still sending invoices as if they expect me to pay that amount regardless. I asked to speak with a manager or owner because they email responses seemed to ignore the fact that I did not schedule them to come out and they performed the work without any advance notice (again, I never received this supposed voicemail). I just spoke to Ed Mulheron a short while ago. Within the first minute of the conversation, he counters my recounting of the situation by saying something along the lines of "there's a contradiction between your story and Kathy's." It went downhill from there. I asked him to review our email traffic. Without taking a few minutes to do so, he still insinuated that I was off base. The next thing I know, Kathy is brought into the conversation and I keep getting cut off by both Ed and Kathy. One time he cut me off to say "Basically, you don't want to pay your bill." Another comment: "Well, good luck." I reminded him that I was the customer who was trying to give him business. He cut me off and said "Well, not for long." After more attempts to explain my position and ALL the next steps I'd like to be taken, there was more cutting me off by both Ed and Kathy. If they'd let me finish speaking, I truly feel that we could have gotten on the same page. However, after all the unproductive exchanges, I told him I was done with the conversation-- he said he was too. I ended the call by stating that I would escalate matter the way I know how. They don't seem to care about hearing out customer concerns or owning that maybe their practices in this case weren't the best. I've never had someone come out to my work and perform work without me knowing when they'd do so, and AGREEING to that time and date. I was basically told my "facts" were wrong before I could get statements out my mouth. They also made it clear that they don't need my business. While all parties' voices elevated, at no point did I yell or say anything rude or inappropriate. If that had been the case, I could see a business telling a customer that they don't need their business. In this case, apparently they don't need the business of any customer who brings to their attention their concerns about services and bills and wants to talk it through without repeated being cut off mid-sentence or essentially being told their position isn't valid. read more

Our next door neighbors used Mulheron to take down several large trees in the park adjacent to their home in Vienna VA. The workman arrived around 8am and set up a large wood chipper about a foot away from our car parked in front of our side yard. The chipper was soon in operation with wood chips, sawdust beginning to cover our car (the neighbors had driven their car safely up the street earlier). We rushed out to move the car and the crew lead came up and attempted to dismiss our concerns. He referred to a letter from the Town announcing the work sent to folks on our street earlier in the month. The letter said nothing about the date/time the work was scheduled and does nothing to remove the company's obligation to let us know that we needed to move our car, which now has several marks and scratches that may be the result of their carelessness. So bad decisionmaking and no remorse on the part of this company. read more

I called the company last week to receive a quote for a dead ash tree in my back yard. Mr. Mulheron arrived that afternoon to look at the tree and walked straight to the back without knocking on my door. When I went outside to ask him about his recommendation on how to take down the tree, he was dismissive and told me not to worry about it because he knew what to do. I then asked him if they had a large crane to take the tree down as I had gotten different recommendations from different companies. Again, he would not answer my question and told me that other companies say whatever they want. He did not provide me with any information that I asked for, which other companies had provided respectfully and in detail. This is a relatively difficult and expensive job, so I wanted as much information as possible to allow me to make my decision. I had been told by the woman at the office when I called to set up the appointment that I would have an estimate the next day by email. When I didn't receive an estimate in the next two days, I called the office again. The woman on the phone told me that "Mr. Mulheron has decided not to give you an estimate." When I asked for the reason, she said she didn't know but would call me after the weekend to let me know. I never heard back. By the time I called Mulheron, I had talked to several other companies, and my experience with them was the outlier. I can't comment on the quality of their work, but their customer service was very poor at best. read more
