I was told about Joe by a friend and was sceptical about a business being as honest as I was told. I put up this posting knowing it may affect my wait time for muffler repairs. I have 4 vehicles on the road, mostly older cars. I used to do all my muffler work myself - buy the parts at wholesale and do the work myself. I needed some welding done and thought I would see how much for a muffler shop to do it- Quiet Muffler and Brake 7112 Kingsway Bby quoted me over $450 for the required work (in their small defence the approach is replace everything with new at inflated parts prices). I figured I could do it myself for much cheaper if replacing everything, but a friend told me about Muffler Man. I took it to Joe and asked for an estimate, Joe came back stating most of the system was in good shape and would last at least a couple of years (that was 4 years ago still good) - the quote was under $100. I have always left my cars at the shop (they can be busy) and he has called with an estimate which has always been awesome. Last time I took a car in I told him if you can't reach me just do the repair, the level of trust is high. I was called about 4 hours later to tell me it was finished and would be $65. The exhaust system was still in good shape with rotting of some of the pipe which was configured and replaced. I just hope he is in business as long as I own cars with mufflers, you can't find better. read more

Two weeks ago , my muffler fell off ( rusty pipe )and I went to a Midas shop to look at it and give me an estimate to fix. The store manager, Dale,asked me to leave the car there for 30 minutes and would give me a diagnosis of the problem and cost to fix. Upon my return , I was informed that my both my muffler and resonator were "shot" and along with a new muffler, resonator and muffler pipe , the cost would be between $1220 - $1440 depending on the brand I choose. A friend suggested I go to a shop he knew and the next day he took it to the "Muffler Man" in Burnaby. The owner was ther and personally looked at my muffler system and proceeded to customize a new pipe to attach the resonator to the muffler , a few new clamps and along with charging me $157,stated that the muffler and resonator were in good shape and should last for quite some time.I can see why he has been operating his business for nearly forty years. He said he gets people like me all the time and his motto is treat the customer honestly. In conclusion,shame on Midas 4th Ave. for dishonesty and two thumbs up for Mufflerman.Please ensure that credit is given to this establishment and a red mark on the Midas touch ! Grant C read more

It's not like they need another positive review, but here's another anyway: I am very happy with my experience at Muffler Man today. I went in to have a problem with my exhaust looked at that I had been ignoring for almost a year. They said it would be about an hour's wait to get my car in, but I was in within fifteen minutes somehow. They told me what they thought was wrong and offered a quote at around $100 for 30 minutes of work. Everything went as they said, I paid them for their work, and the noisy problem I had been ignoring for a year was taken care of. No more noise! They also offered their theory as to how the problem got started in the first place, which was very helpful. They recommended another job to be done on my car which would prevent the problem from arising once again; whether I do the work or not in the future, I am grateful for their advice. This advice was given out for free, when just getting your car looked at and diagnosed elsewhere can run up a tab pretty quick. Thanks. read more

I dropped off my 2004 Jeep Liberty at Muffler Man this morning (on a busy Saturday) to check for a potential exhaust leak as I have been noticing a burning/exhaust smell in my car when driving for longer than 15 mins. They called me in a couple of hours to tell me that there was no issue, everything looked good and sealed in terms of the muffler and exhaust system. When I picked up my Jeep, I fully expected to be charged some fee for their time to investigate the issue, but the gentleman told me there was no charge. I felt bad that I had wasted their time and asked again if I owed them anything for their time - he assured me this is just part of what they do. I guarantee when it is time for any service on my vehicle, I will definitely take it to them. This kind of professionalism and customer service is impossible to find anymore. I needed a new muffler/pipe for my 2003 Xterra. Got a quote from one big chain of $491+ tax (=$550), (whole rear pipe & muffler need replacing), then another quote from another giant chain of $418 (incl tax). Read about this shop here, called and then went there. They ascertained that there was no leak in the pipe (just a broken clamp & a shot muffler), so proceeded to cut out the muffler, and replace it with proper welds. Total price for parts, labour & tax $138! Guess who I'll be recommending to friends? Muffler has lifetime warranty (Made in Canada), and pipe work has 12-months. What can I say? Go here for your exhaust problems. These guys can do it all, bend pipe, etc and not do unnecessary work. read more

Stopped by here today to get a noisy exhaust system looked at in my Toyota Sienna. I had a couple of estimates from other muffler shops wanting to replace a bunch of parts for- $1200 plus. These guys were willing to cut out the bad pipe, and replace just what was needed for a total bill of just $200. Joe and his staff were pleasant and easy going- no high pressure sales tactics here. The big difference in this place is that this is actually a muffler shop that is willing to do some actual work- cutting, welding, etc. vs selling you a bunch of stuff that you don't really need. This is long overdue but they did such an amazing job I had to write a review. They did a simple muffler swap for me 4 months ago in July 2013. I called to get a quote ~ $160. I'm not a car guy so maybe I didn't explain what I needed done correctly. When I went there with the muffler in hand, the mechanic said it'd be $90. They were fast; the whole job took about 15 minutes. At payment, without me saying anything, the cashier noted it was such a quick job and offered to knock the price down to $70. The people here are very friendly and honest. I trust them and would definitely go back if I need any more work done. read more

To say I'm impressed with his straightforwardness and honesty is an understatement..I stopped by for an estimate and I was originally quoted $800 plus labor because the exhaust had to be removed from the car in order to repair (or so I was told)...to my total surprise and delight was quoted $212.00 plus tax which came to $245 total and my car was done in less than an hour..nothing had to be removed...most of these places in the city ,Marpole or lower Oak St area are really just out to get you...straight up !!!! I drove down early from Whistler to have a repair done on my mini van. I arrived before their scheduled opening. I went to the office and met John. He immediately had me pull into on of the bays and inspected my van. I was back on the road in less than a hour with my van running awsome and at a fraction of what I was quoted by the Whistler auto shops. John should have a seminar on customer service. He told me he was old school. It was defiantly worth the drive and will not hesitate to recommend him to my friends in Whistler and Squamish. read more

Great shop, amazing prices and very cool staff. Brought my 92 yj in because the exhaust was extremely loose. Only took them 30 minutes to finish the job and only charged me $67!!! Midas told me the previous night that it would cost $150 plus tax for the same job and it would take 2 hours. Not too be hard on Midas but you really cant beat The Muffler Man. Great example of the savings that come when you give work to folks who know how to do it. The exhaust was loud on my Subaru. I knew I had a hole somewhere. A mechanic quoted me $1200 to replace my entire exhaust system from the manifold back. Took it to Muffler Man: within an hour and a half, they had cut out two rusted-out pipe segments and welded in shiny replacements. Perfect fix for $250. Get there before they open and line up then; they don't take appointments. read more

Can't say enough nice things about Joe at Muffler Man. Fair and probably way to honest for his own good. I've dealt with lots of shops in the past and I can honestly say Joe tells you exactly what's wrong and then gives you options from least expensive onwards and you decide what you want to pay. Sitting in the waiting room I overheard two conversations where they sent people to other services to avoid doing unnecessary work. Highly recommended!! read more

Aug 2,2013 I went to a nearby garage for an estimate to replace my muffler and tailpipe. The estimate was $ 521.45 including parts,labour and taxes. Then I went to Muffler Man on the Kingsway in Burnaby BC.They did replacements and charged me $ 122.49. (they recognized me as a senior and gave me a 10% discount on the muffler). So you young guys might have to pay a little more. There was no extra charge for their warm smiles! read more

My Subaru dealer in Richmond diagnosed a complete replacement of the exhaust system. The estimate was 5000.00. I asked for the minimum I can get away with. They said 5000.00 Joe the Muffler Man said there will be a 2 hour wait to see the car. I did and he said a bracket was loose causing the noise and something needed to be welded. Total cost $50.40. I was referred here by a very trusted mechanic (he advised against going to a chain). Wife's collector noisy mercedes needed attention. Within 10 minutes they put it on the hoist, said there should be enough metal (29 year old car) to "cut and fit" a replacement pipe and did. Price under $150, then discounted $35 because I was referred by another shop. HIGHLY recommend. read more

Was super happy with the price and used the rest for a bit more vehicle maintenance. Just got the old muffler cut off and the newer one (I brought in) welded on this morning. They are efficient, reasonable, no BS and all really friendly. The boss-man has a good sense of humor and if he is stressed, he hides it very well un-like other mechanics I have dealt with. The best muffler shop around. I recently took my Audi A4 in to have the resonators cut out. When I arrived for my appointment I was greeted with a friendly smile and my car was taken right in.
