I had a "check engine" light come on, and the temperature gauge spiked to maximum for about 1-2 seconds. When I phoned to make an appointment I knew I had the right place to go to. Lady answering very pleasant and professional - excellent phone manner! When I arrived for my appointment it turned out there was a delay with a previous vehicle. They were apologetic but not a problem for me. The mechanics did an excellent job and took the time to explain what they believed the problem was and the steps to fix the issue. read more

I'm happy to be a returning customer. My car itself was working as fine for the areas that they repaired (breaks). It's a 1998 Honda CRV so you can only expect so much. We took it in for servicing again (engine) and also my partner's 2005 Chevy Silverado. The prices were again fair. They weren't exactly as quoted, in fact they were LESS THAN QUOTED. I wouldn't expect that to be always the case as maybe sometimes there would be surprises to the mechanics after they start taking things apart. But it does make me feel that they were charging me the actual cost of the work they were doing. I'm happy to know a place I would return to, although I'm not so happy that my car needs work, but I know I have an old car. It's just a lot nicer to not be so stressed out about whether I'll be swindled at some random place to get my car fixed. They do seem a little like an ol' fashion shop with honest service with honest people. So ol' fashion that they don't have an answering machine. Do try to call them during their office hours so you can check that they are available to work on your car the day you plan to bring it in and to check if they are open (they do take vacations like normal people). read more

I am so glad I brought my classic car to Ian's Auto for servicing! I knew going in this would be a difficult repair. Professional mechanics were very informative. The completed work was impressive. My car was sanitized prior to pick up. The new owner is obviously conscience of customer satisfaction. I would not hesitate to recommend them for auto service needs. Hands down the mechanic I trust most. I've been in a few times, and he's been quick and very reasonably priced. My girlfriend went in to get one of her gaskets replaced, and it was far less expensive than the dealership and there was no sense of "upselling" - i.e. Ian didn't discover new issues that needed to be addressed. IAN IS A HIDDEN GEM IN THE WORLD OF AUTO REPAIR THAT YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE FOR YOURSELF! Honestly my review won't do Ian's Auto much justice. Just like most reviews for this place these guys are literally the most honest group of guys you will find anywhere..PERIOD!! You have to EXPERIENCE their service and honesty for yourself to truly appreciate just what an amazing person Ian and his team (including Janet the receptionist) are. A few years ago when I started looking at finding a good honest mechanic because my car warranty was about to run out I literally googled "good honest mechanic Coquitlam" and Ian's Auto was the first result that popped up. I read the usual great reviews and decided to call and speak to them myself. I'll spare you the details, but suffice it to say they sounded a little too good to be true as they quoted me prices that was no where near what the big boy dealerships and even Canadian Tire quoted. They are true to their word and to the point. They don't waste your time and tell you exactly what's wrong as well as what is priority to fix if you had multiple issues. Nissan quoted me $1200 to do my wife's 2005 altima brakes. When I suggested that I'll supply the parts the quote went down to $800. I bought the parts and on my way to Nissan decided to stop by Ian's. Ian came out and drove my wife's altima down the street and back up. He told me to return all but two items and my total cost to fix the brakes was less the $400. from $1200 to less than $400. Ian and his guys are a godsend for people looking for good, reliable, hardworking and most of all trustworthy honest people to work on their cars. For the first time my wife feels absolutely no fear or hesitation in taking her car to Ian if she had any issues and I wasn't around. On November 2, 2017 my father-n-law took his 2009 Honda CRV to Costco and was quoted $29 to fix the flat tire that he had. He went to Ian and was charged $5 for the same flat. On another occasion I took my 2011 Chevy Cruze to Ian to have serviced. Janet quoted me about $400 for the work as it was going to be time intensive. When i returned to pick up the car later the same day Janet stated the final cost was $150 plus taxes!! Thinking she may have screwed up and quoted me someone else price I asked her and she said it was because Ian was able to fix my issue in much less time than he originally thought hence the lower charge. What mechanic do you know quotes you a higher price, but actually charges you less because he finished the job in half the time he thought it would take and on top of that is actually HONEST about it?? Bottom line: If you're reading my and all the other reviews you are where we all were at one point...in search of someone honest and reliable who has your best interest at heart. Ian is truly that person. You just have to meet him once to feel and believe it yourself. The new guy is overpricing and is saying things need to be repaired that don't, before looking at your vehicle in the shop. I took my car here to get splash guards put on. The mechanic was honest and offered a very reasonable price for this service. When the splash guards didn't fit because Subaru sold me the wrong ones, they were honest about the fact that they didn't fit. They also discounted the service as they weren't able to put them on. They even drove me to do an errand during my service!! Great customer service, nice and honest staff. Would highly recommend Ian's. read more

You're greeted at Ian's by a very friendly woman (i forget her name) I asked for both front wheel bearings to be replaced, was called 10 minutes later with them saying I really only needed to replace one. I asked for them to replace my belts, (car is a high mile'r so I figured it could use it) I was told no need no cracks. I guess you have to beg for these folks to take your money. Lets you go in and take a look, will show you the damaged parts, the other mechanics are friendly and look like they enjoy what they're doing, or like where the work. Refreshing to find both a competent and trustworthy mechanic. 5 stars, will definitely use again. read more

I took my 2005 Infinity FX into Ian's to locate an issue with the vehicle vibrating at higher speeds. After recently having service completed at the dealership on another problem and charged an exorbitant price, I set out using Yelp to help find a mechanic in the area that maybe a bit more reasonable. From the time that I made the initial appointment with Janice to get the car in, to where Ian handed me back the keys to tell me the car was good to go, the service was excellent. Thank you Ian for taking care of the issue immediately, after test driving it, to getting it on the hoist to identify the issue, order the part, and having fixed the issue all within a 2 hour window. The issue being the driver's side rear calliper locked on to the wheel. The price was very fair, and I'am very happy with the work. Thank you to all those too that have submitted their ratings to Yelp. As a result Ian's will now too be my go to mechanic if and when I am to have future issues with my vehicles. Cheers, B read more

I've heard alot of good things from the reviews below, problem is I can't confirm the quality of service as I actually have yet to have my vehicle in for service due to how busy they are. So I'll give them a 5* based on my initial contact with Janet and their customer service. She offers great customer service, seems genuine and is helpful. When my vehicle does get repaired, I'll update and revise my comments accordingly. *edit* Finally got an appointment and brought my vehicle in. They had an unexpected client show up because they were confused about their appoint. Non the less, Janet was very accomodating to the customers. They test drove my vehicle and recognized the symptoms right away. They said it was going to take a couple hrs to have the parts ordered and delivered, then 1/2 hr to install. We had been there alittle longer than expected and I think Janet knew that so she offered to drive to the parts dealer to pick up the parts(likely saved us 1.5hrs). She didn't have to and I felt she went above and beyond. Also the mechanic offered helpful tips to prolong the maintenance of the repairs we had done. So yeah, I'm sticking with my 5 stars. Unfortunately for us, now our other vehicle needs servicing. Fortunately for us we may have found a new mechanic shop that gives us the sense of honesty which is I feel is important in this industry. read more

Fantastic service. Went to another mechanic shop where I was quoted $1200 worth of repairs (both front wheel bearings supposedly needed replacing, serpentine belt, & front brake pads), came to Ian's and they checked everything out and ended up costing less than $400. In fact, the only thing that needed replacing was one set of wheel bearings. Ian went above and beyond and explained everything to me, someone who knows very little about cars. Highly recommend and won't be getting my car serviced anywhere else! Also, Eco Chico the cockatoo was hilarious and an adorable bonus. read more

Very nice people from the mechanics down to the person greeting you at the desk. There's a real sense of enthusiasm for their work and their explanations on required repairs are very knowledgeable. For my visit, I had issues with worn wheel bearings causing some wobbling while driving. I had taken it to another mechanic the week prior, where they failed to diagnose the problem. I brought it in to Ians auto and they figured it out within the hour and gave me a price quote before proceeding with the work. After the work was done, the charge turned out to be less than the estimated price! Car feels great and my wallet isn't completely empty yet, so I think I'll take it back to them again to fix my other car problems. read more

Is there such a thing as a honest Mechanic? If you asked be that before I went to Ian's I would have said no but after going here I'm happy to say yes. I had a few things going on with my Jeep and thought I may need a transmission flush so they said they would check a few things and call. In just a couple hours I received a call and was happy to hear no flush was required and the noise I brought the jeep in for was easy and cheap to fix. I've tried many mechanics and would say the Ian's is probably the only honest one I've found. Definitely recommended. read more

We went to Ian's auto shop to get a pre-sale check on our dodge caravan. We felt welcome from the first minute we stepped into the shop. The staff and Ian are super friendly and he knows what he is doing. A little about us, we were two girls with absolutely no knowledge about cars and he told us everything we needed to know. There were a few things that needed to be done but he also told us it's not urgent and we would be fine for a while - any other auto repair shop would have told us that it needs to be fixed right away. I've been looking for an honest, friendly and efficient mechanic for a long time. I went by other YELP reviews and was not disappointed. I came a few months ago with a problem in my car - Ian and crew checked it out and said it wasn't a "dire" problem that needed to be fixed. They told me what it was and gave me the option. THey even topped up the oil in my car and sent me on my way - no charge. This week I took my car in b/c of other problems and they once again just diagnosed it and left it to me as to whether I wanted to pay for repairs (as it wasn't going to interfere with my driving). The time and pricing they quoted me was accurate on both counts. Once again, I was blown away by their service and honesty. I decided to get it fixed as I need to sell my car soon, but I would recommend Ian's auto shop to anyone in Coquitlam. read more

I recently had starter issues and asked a co-worker if she could recommend a good shop. She said a few years before, her starter was acting up so without stopping the car, she drove straight to Ian's Auto & Repairs Ltd where it was immediately changed. She was impressed and became a client. Feeling confident about the shop, I made an appointment to take my car in the next day. Once there, everyone was friendly and accommodating. They started my car several times in order to hear the starter struggle to turn over rather than start immediately as it was doing. I let them know over the past 5 days or so, SEVERAL times my starter just barely started, but it struggled only sporadically and with a long weekend coming up, and needing my car for parts of my job, I wanted the starter replaced. But because neither Ian or his mechanics could hear the starter struggle, they refused to replace it. The reason was to save me money. What if it wasn't the starter, then I would be upset to have spent the money on it. I knew it was the starter but they refused to replace it. I had had the battery changed a week or so before hand and I was told my starter was readjusting itself because its power source [my battery] had been cut off. Ian said he used to work for Chrysler and he found their cars would do that. All of them sent me on my way without doing anything for me, except talk. The next day at work, my starter died. I was in my car, as part of my job, when it died. I was stuck and at 11:30 that night, my manager had to drive me back to my place. The following day was a holiday and I had no vehicle. It was stranded in an unattended parking lot where vehicles had been damaged before. I finally found a tow company that offered to pick up my car that day and drive it into a shop. I had to walk 4 1/2 km there and back to drop off my key so they could work on my car first thing the next morning. The next afternoon, 2 hours before I had to leave for work, my car was ready and I had to walk 4 1/2 km again to go pick it up. And then I was charged double what Ian would have charged me if he had done the repair. But I had no choice, I needed my car and was so grateful to the ones who did help me out. I had gone in to see Ian on Wednesday where he refused to replace my starter. My starter died on Thursday, Friday was a holiday and my car was stranded, and Saturday I needed my car for work and I had no idea if it would be fixed in time. The whole long weekend was very stressful for me and expense as I paid $300 more than I would have if Ian had fixed it when I took it in to him. I called on Monday to let him know what had taken place and he was to busy to take my call, since it was just after the long weekend. Finally on Tuesday he took my call, listened to me and didn't care. He told me to get BCAA so I won't have high tow charges but basically he just wanted to get off the phone. Finally NEAR THE END OF THE CONVERSATION HE SAID SORRY. But there was no apology in his voice or tone. He just wanted off the phone. So he went from being open and inviting during our first conversation to closed and not caring during our phone conversation when I let him know what had happened. His actions left me stranded, having to get my car towed, stressed for 3 days and having to pay double what he would have charged IF HE HAD DONE THE WORK when I went to see him and he didn't care. So based on the above, I can't recommend Ian or his shop. read more

The best mechanic I have ever been to. Quick and friendly service at a very reasonable price. My first visit was maintenance that was required and they had the best price. A few months later (for an unrelated issue) I had my car towed in as it had broken down and they were able to fix it the next day. Janet always calls with a price for approval before completing the work - so you don't have to worry about hidden costs. The mechanics are very helpful and they all seem to enjoy their work - which says a lot about the company! They have been able to squeeze me in very quickly at the end of the day if I had any issues. read more

I took my Honda to Honda to get winter tires. When they phoned me to tell me that my car was ready, I was told that I had approximately $1,220 in emergent work that needed to be done. Having been to Ian's before, I told them not to do the work. Took my car to Ian's and I ended up with a $250 bill. Not the first time I've been to Ian's and it certainly won't be the last. I first heard of him through people at work and family who bring their cars to him from Langley and Poco. I can see why. I would never go anywhere else. i found this one place on yelp and they were absolutely great. my car kept stalling and came here because the reviews were great and i was very close by snd kinda stuck... and now i know why they had so many great reviews. Even though they were very busy they checked my car out and didnt charge me. the catillac converter was plugged up and they suggested i take it down the road to a friends muffler shop. they could have overcharged me for a part i didnt nee and i wouldnt have known any different, but instead they called ahead to the muffler guy they knew down the road because it would be cheaper. he took it out in an hour. i will be back to get my car fixed here.
