Solid spot for a quick breakfast in the area (there was no wait on a Saturday at noon!), but the food was hit or miss. Their weekend menu is also a tad price-y ($24 for one item + a drink even if you don't want a drink). The buttermilk pancake was good -- it was super thick, fluffy, and a good size. The sourdough french toast was disappointing, though. It was coated in almonds, which made it way too crunchy for my liking and overpowered the french toast. Came here for a quick afternoon pick me up and was not disappointed! I ordered the chai tea latte with oat milk and it was soooooo good! It was so rich and flavorful! I felt like it tasted more like a snickerdoodle cookie than a traditional chai tea latte, but I honestly loved that about it! Only negative is that their menu only lists one price (for the larger size) but they have both a large and small size cups. Had I realized it, I probably would have gone with a small because the large was a lot of volume for what I wanted but at least it was delicious. Can't wait to come back for more! read more

The wait wasn't too bad but not sure cause part of the party came earlier. The service was attentive but they left to yourself after they brought orders. My only complaint is place was very hot and small. We sat very close to bathroom and they put our seat next to each other which is an awkward setup. We had breakfast at MUD and what a great experience it was. Everyone was very inviting and the inside gave the best vibes. We had the option of sitting inside or outside. When we arrived we immediately loved the playlist. The music we loved. We started with a hot maple latte and an iced maple latte that was so full of flavor. For breakfast we ordered huevos rancheros and French toast and a side of bacon. These were recommended by our waitress and they were amazing choices. She also recommended the banana pancakes but we didn't order that. My friend and I were looking for a restaurant serving brunch in the area and settled on MUD since it was so close. We arrived around 11 AM on a Sunday morning and it was fairly crowded already. There was a line at the front and I started lining up as well but my friend told me not to and instead just to walk towards the restaurant portion in the back to tell them that we were ready to be seated at a table. As soon as we let our intentions known we were seated within 5 minutes. Our hostess brought us to our small table in a corner with the menus. I decided to order the huevos rancheros with the brunch order (drinks: hot chocolate + mimosa). The drinks were a little bit too much for me, I would have appreciated a lower price and just ordered one drink since I didn't end up finishing all of it. The mimosa was also pretty strong so that is a good choice for the price. As for the huevos rancheros, the flavor was ok. A bit plain but was surprisingly filling even though it looked small at first glance. Service was ok, but the whole restaurant just felt very cramped especially the bathroom area. If you come to this restaurant try not to use the bathroom because it is not a very pleasant experience haha. It's a cramped room in between the indoor and outdoor dining area. There was a window to the side of the bathroom with stained glasses so you're able to see the people sitting right outside. Additionally, the window was slightly cracked open meaning that you can not only see the people but also hear their whole conversation. This just made the whole experience slightly stressful. MUD is an established coffee shop and brunch provider in the heart of the East Village. I've been here a few times over the past 5 years, and I have to say I don't really understand the hype. Coffee drinks are always made correctly and good quality-- try the MUD Mocha. Food offerings are pretty standard-- avocado toast, pancakes, omelettes, Tex-Mex egg dishes. The front room is cozy and cute, but we were seated in the back which is more of a hybrid indoor/outdoor space. The door to the outside was wide open which I appreciate for ventilation purposes during COVID, but they needed to turn up the heat to compensate a bit more. My boyfriend had a salmon bagel which he reported pretty good, and my friend likewise with her avocado toast. I found my breakfast burrito to be bland, and even the hot sauce couldn't perk it up. The worst part was the rice-- it was simultaneously soupy and not fully cooked, with some of the grains still hard. Service was fine, though it took a long time to get our check (and didn't seem like they had been hit with the brunch rush yet). I don't want to ding them too much; I've had serviceable meals here in the past. I do appreciate they've kept their prices relatively in check (coffees generally under $5, many breakfast dishes under $10). If you can grab a table, I'd still go for it, but don't understand why it commands a line. read more

Sitting extremely close to strangers in a hot back area wasn't ideal but we were disappointed when our server didn't say a single word when taking our order. Just left here. What a shame. Really decent, fresh food. Burrito was great. But service - absolutely not good. Our server, India (sorry India) seemed to have that apathetic teen (20s? Idk) thing going on where she simply cared way more about how she looked than actually helping out guests. We have a toddler and ordered the grilled cheese. Very specifically saying it was for him. And for some reason it came loaded with jalapeños, and basically ruined it. I'm shocked that a grilled cheese would come with this, but more shocked that someone wouldn't know to warn us. On our way out we heard India referring to her previous customer as a "crusty ass bitch". In India's defense, it was a woman who left a dirty diaper for her on the table. But based on what we witnessed in just that 45 minutes, I think I can safely say I'm on the diaper's side. All that said, it might be time to either put a "No kids allowed" sign on the door, give sweet India some training, or transfer her to a good local Starbucks with benefits. Get the burrito, adults! My second trip to Mud was meh. We ordered the grilled cheese with avocado and bacon and the tomato soup. The soup was really a pasta-free minestrone. More veggie soup than anything. Our sandwich was missing the bacon and really was a tomato and pickled jalapeño sandwich with a slice of cheese. My previous visit to Mud was great. I recently tried MUD, it was recommended to me on one of those "must try if you're in New York" TikToks and honestly I can't say I was disappointed! We arrived on Sunday and had to wait 20 minutes for outside seating which was nice! Our server was very friendly and explained the menu very thoroughly along with some personal recommendations! The food and drinks was great! Came out relatively quickly after we ordered. I got a plate of Huevos Rancheros and some iced coffee and everything was amazing. Same with my friends who got MUDMAN Sandwhich and MUDMAN Burrito. Unfortunately we didn't get to sit inside and see the interior but just an outside view it gave off some nice coffee shop vibes! Good brewed coffee. I went with a group of people, one of which is a regular. I was the only one getting coffee (it was 8pm) and had the pleasure of being forced to try it in front of the staff. Luckily it was fantastic. I am not an espresso guy, and sometimes it's tough to find a cup of drip that is up my alley, but this was delicious. I am a light roast man, and while this tasted, on the darker side, it was still full if acidic flavor beyond the flat darkness at other spots. They are roasting their own beans so you know it's going to be good. I was only there for a minute but the staff was awesome. It was a cozy spot that serves coffee, food and beer. MUD is a decent spot if you're grabbing a pastry and a drink and heading out. Eating in the restaurant itself leaves much to be desired. As others have mentioned here, the staff all act better than you and couldn't be more standoffish. We arrived to have lunch inside and the waiter's initial reaction was to tell us to wait outside if we were waiting for to go food. We asked for a table and he got all dramatic and said it would be at least a 10 min wait because they were so full. We were fine with this and went outside. Less than 2 minutes later, he comes out and tells us he has a table. He leads us to the backroom. I observed multiple open tables in the restaurant so I'm not sure why he had to put on a Broadway play about how they were so full. The food is decent, the drinks are decent. I always get their Chai latte and their scrambled egg/pickled jalapeno sandwich. Our waiter was different than the one who sat us and was much friendlier. The backroom isn't the cleanest and if you look up at the skylight in there, you'll observe how dirty it is from the outside and inside. There's multiple fruit flies swarming around the structure outside. There must be a small gap in the window pane, because random remnants of the debris outside kept falling in. Our table was right under the skylight and a tiny (dead) fruit fly literally landed in my dish. I didn't observe anything else falling into my dish, but that table seems to be in an unfortunate spot. This was such a cozy place to sit down and sip coffee. The entrance area is really narrow, but if you go toward the back of the cafe there is a small seating area. I thought you could order up front (since I saw the Square card processing machine), but if you sit down, it'll be table service. I thought the coffee was fine. We rolled in for a lazy Sunday brunch. Well, maybe not -so- lazy. After all, we arrived well before the regular brunch-time patrons arrived -- perhaps around 1030. By the time we left, there was a crush at the door and people waiting out on the sidewalk. Fair warning. Honestly, I hadn't read up on the Sunday brunch fixed price menu. Had I known about it, I probably would have steered our party elsewhere. Ultimately, I simply couldn't justify the price tag ($21.50 per person before tax and tip) for what you get. The mimosa seemed to be primarily composed of juice. Similarly, my breakfast burrito was satisfying; that's about the strongest praise I can muster. I'm glad to have tried out MUD. We came here on a rainy Friday night (around 730) and were seated very quickly. We started with iced tea and had ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and jalapeño, and an avocado sandwich with a fried egg. The grilled cheese was delicious and my boyfriend had made a comment that it was probably the best grilled cheese he had ever had. The tomato soup was good and sort of tasted like marinara sauce. I enjoyed the avocado sandwich but there was sooo much arugula and not enough of everything else, it overpowered the sandwich and that was all I could taste. It was good, but nothing in comparison to the grilled cheese! Visited this past Sunday, February 12, 2023 with my wife. The ambiance was a rustic old style look. The inside is a little small but i did see what appeared to be an outside area. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. Our waiter Zach was very welcoming and full of great positive energy, which made our visit even more better. I ordered the B.A.T. which is a sandwich comprised of maple smoked bacon, avocado, tomato, arugula, asiago & garlic mayo and i added a fried egg all on sourdough bread. The taste was refreshing. It wasn't to much, and had just enough flavor and it wasn't heavy on the stomach. I enjoyed every bite. My wife ordered the Avocado sandwich, which is avocado, tomato, queso fresco, arugula and garlic mayo on sourdough bread with egg. We opted for any table that was free first, because the outside seating tends to be more popular. Ordered: - Almond Crusted Sour Dough French Toast - pretty good, comes with berries and banana and maple syrup. Not the best french toast I've had, but it was different in a good way. So this was my first time going to the actual restaurant. Normally I get my latte from the truck when it's by the flatiron building, but I was in the area and said why not. It's a spacious spot with huge benches at the bar; which is great for the aesthetic, but not so much when you need to pull out the entire bench (seating 2-3) to sit down. They have this AMAZING deal for brunch where you can get a huge entree, coffee/tea, AND a mimosa for $21.50- pretty hard to find that kind of deal in NYC.
