There's NEVER a time I leave Mud Bay unhappy. The employees, their knowledge, the environment, their patience for shoplifting 4-legged customers. (That would be my canine snacking through a selection of treats) They are absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend them for ALL your pet purchases. The manager (I think...who has the lab there all the time with him?) recommended us this fishy (I think it's a salmon,) for our T-Rex chewer of a dog. We thought well I guess we can try it!! Dude he KILLED a Double Kong Wubba and had the first BALL ripped out and shredded. In 15 minutes. This salmon might as well be called Happy Salmon because we have had it over three months and it still squeaks and Finn still loves it SO much!! What a good buy. Such friendly, helpful employees. I forgot the person's name with the brown curly hair but they were awesome & knew the answer to literally everything I asked. I'm new to Oregon so maybe this level of friendly is normal but this person made me feel SO welcome & actually excited to shop there. I think the Pearl location has fooled me into thinking that all Mudbays are the same. The Pearl location employees go above and beyond every single time. So friendly! It's like shopping with your bestie! Unfortunately the Scholls Ferry location is far from the same! There was only 2 other shoppers when I was there and no one came up to say hi or to help me. I made a point of walking by the folks behind the desk purposely acting lost. Nothing! Christopher was too busy interrupting the other cashier's conversation, even when he was ringing my stuff up! Christopher was horrible! Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! If you live close to here, take the drive to the Pearl location! It's worth the drive. You won't find a better pet store than Mud Bay! You just won't. Both the Scholls Ferry & Tualatin locations have beyond amazing staff! They are all so nice & very knowledgeable. They carry out the heavy dog food bags for me & give my fur babes free treats. They really go way above & beyond 100% of the time! The prices seem far better on toys, treats, food, etc, compared to any other pet stores. NORDSTROM OF PET STORES. I went to the Happy Valley Mud Bay store on a whim and was SHOCKED by the genuine tip top service I received from staff. After expressing my needs I had 2 staff members scouring ingredient lists and shelves for what would best suit my needs and also offering options. wow. Even after we were finished communicating the members would come up to me with knowledge they had learned since our last interaction 30 seconds earlier! The staff is so incredibly welcoming and helpful. They do a great job at making employee-customer relationships that will draw you back. Best damn quality pet store. PERIOD! They are a small, but growing local chain from Seattle Washington. We used to order most of our specialty dog treats and food online (assuming it was always less expensive and I do love online shopping). However, we stumbled in to Mud Bay a couple years ago on a whim and could not believe the variety, friendly service and affordable prices. Some of the premium dog foods are slightly higher than online, but when you factor in the dog biscuit bar which has an entire Grain Free section (10-12 offerings) at less than $3 per pound with the bucket, you can't beat it. Our dogs love the bulk biscuits and even sneak a few which we always feel we must apologize for. Even our very picky eater would stoop to thievery in the name of their dog height nom nom GF biscuits. They also have leashes, collars, harnesses, beds, crates--and most of their items are less expensive than the big box stores (like Petco/Smart). For example, we bought a leader (Holt brand) for our new girl and it was $5 less at Mudbay than PetSmart. Great assortment of bowls, shampoos and conditioners and a lot of organic/non GMO options, too! I've been to Healthy Pet, Natural Pet foods, Creature Comforts, Western and they are all just fine, but Mud Bay has our repeat business for life. Recommend if you have a dog, buy the biscuit bucket ($4-5 one time purchase) and it will save you 15% each time you come in making the biscuits (including grain-free) under $3 per pound. We used to pay $12-15 for a 20oz bag! Their biscuits are all from reputable (often local Washington) small makers, which is wonderful. Oh and be patient because they may run out of your dogs favorite from time to time because the local dog baker can't always keep up with the demand (especially the grain free). However, they have such a wide assortment, you aahhhem, your dog will find many favorites. Our dogs love them all. A couple last comments: They do a lot for animal welfare including local rescue events, raising money for dogs and cats in need, dog social events, no charge photos during holidays (with costumes). Their primary philosophy is to provide the best quality pet food to your babies at an affordable cost, so all pets have the opportunity for good nutrition. We are in LOVE with Mud Bay. Our dogs freak out when we go there (they start howling as soon as we near the parking lot)! Thank you for making high quality pet nutrition affordable for everyone. read more

Love this place! So close to my house and all the employees are always so nice and helpful. I really love how they can keep track of what we buy so if I go in without my husband I dont have issues getting the same food. We also love the bucket you can buy and fill with all sorted treats !! I love the location of this store, as it is close to my house. The staff are super knowledgeable and helpful too! The store is nice looking and clean. I went in there when they first opened just to check it out after some grocery shopping, and they even gave me some sample treats and a thank you card without even buying anything! They have their own help pamphlets with things like flea prevention, which I think is really nice, so you can keep information that the staff tell you about. They really listen to you as a pet parent too. Even with little things like when you're getting your items rung up, they listen to the needs and restrictions for EACH of your pets (not just ones present or you're buying for) to pick give you the right sample treats. Yes! They inquire that much just for a sample they're giving to you, the customer (: Another memorable visit is when I brought my mom's dog in with me to find her some treats. The treats my mom would have gotten her dog would have been a waste, as she did not like them. I asked if I could let her dog try some of the treats that were out in the bulk section, and they were happy to let me. I soon found her favorite treats and bought a bulk bag of them. read more

This is the place to go if you have questions about feeding your pets a raw diet. The staff is so knowledgable, but a little too helpful. They tend to ask if I need help frequently. Stop supporting large pet food manufacturers like Purina who do not care about your pets, or their health and do not care that your pets are ill or dying from their crappy food. Shop here and get your pets on a healthy brand of food. Mud Bay has lots of free samples of all their top of the line food brands. read more

Awesome store but similar comment to be made in regards to a previous customer already. If I have a question I will ask. I've done plenty of research on products and know my stuff and would prefer the staff take it down a notch. I appreciate the customer service as I work in a similar industry, but if I want to just browse please allow me to do so without asking me how I'm doing every minute. You are all awesome for doing your job but at least communicate with one another on who's already been talked to... It does make you want to leave when consistency bothered. I visit this store every two weeks to buy a ginormous bag of Fromm dog food. I was buying pet food at Petsmart or Petco but wasn't happy with the price or recalls. The staff are so friendly and helpful. They know so much and assured me that my dog's new favorite food is crazy healthy, evidently yummy and so much less expensive than the big names. I was able to see him handle a very rude customer with grace and style. I hope that Mudd Bay will empower their employees to follow suit on how he handled her. She was very rude and calling him names which is unacceptable to me and I was a minute to slow because I wanted to step in and protect the employee. Ok, so, look, I like the place alot, the products and food they offer are top notch. But I'm gonna make a weird complaint. I can't get through the door without someone I don't know at all greeting me like I'm a long lost cousin. I can't just go in get some food or look at things without being hounded with advice and thoughts that I didn't ask for. On more than one occasion I have walked out because the staff wouldn't leave me the hell alone while I was looking at things. On one occasion, a crazy lady employee started ranting to me about how a raw diet is soooooo much better than the 50 dollar a bag stuff i buy from them. While I was waiting for the cashier and nodding and giving this woman the minimum amount of attention I could without explicitly ignoring her, she had the social ineptitude to say "I'm sorry, i just feel like we can't communicate with you wearing sunglasses, could you remove them" so this person requests I take off my prescription sunglasses, which, not only being prescription, I was on antibiotics at the time that caused extreme light sensitivity and was wearing them to avoid headaches, so there I am standing in a store, squinting around at a blurry facade so this human pop up ad could spew raw diet advertising at me. I was astounded, I wanted to slap the hippy right out of her. That was over the summer, and I didn't go back for about 6 months. Now I go back in and it's like one foot in the door before "Helloooooo!" I even try going in the back door area directly to the food section, but I still can't avoid the staff greeting me as if I've returned from mordor. Like, do i know you? Do we have some kind of relationship? I'm sure it's some kind of store service policy, but it just plays out as extremely fake to me. It's like the human version of pop up ads in there. Just once I would like to go in and have nobody follow whatever insane policies about social interaction they have. And read the social cues that say, "I don't want your opinion on this dog bowl, I would like to look at it undisturbed, in fact I would like to mosey around, investigating the offerings of the store and if I have a question, I know exactly where you are, hovering around me like an extremely over-friendly shark." read more
