I needed a quick turnaround, and they were able to schedule me for painting the next day. Fabrizio is a perfectionist and really cares about his craft. Instead of nickle and diming like many other contractors, he even brought his own white paint to touch up parts of the trim to ensure clean lines after painting the walls light grey. They asked me to pick a paint color and I asked if that is included in the price we were quoted and they said they didn't know. As I was trying to figure that out, it came out that they don't think repairing the stairs is a good idea and they can't even guarantee they won't break again for even 3 days. I asked if it would be a lot more expensive to redo the whole thing and they said it would be exponentially more expensive. I told them we'll talk to Alex and get back to them. 30 minutes later, Alex calls my husband screaming at him! He told him that we shouldn't ask his contractors about prices and that he doesn't work that way and that we should find someone else to work with and hung up the phone on my husband! He was literally screaming at my husband on the phone. And then hung up on him. There are so many issues with our experience starting with the fact that the workers kept showing up without prior notice and asking a lot of questions as if they didn't know what they were supposed to be doing. And then of course the fact that he was trying to scam us into doing something that he knew might not even last the week. And then finally, calling my husband and screaming at him and hanging up on him because his workers were asking us a lot of questions?! It's just been an atrocious experience. I recommend avoiding him at all costs. UPDATE: Alex is now threatening my husband over text messages because of our review. We are just stating facts. I hired this company to redo a shower stall. Because they were already going to be doing concrete…read morework in the shower stall, I pointed out two, small, hand-sized areas of concrete that needed patching on my balcony. The owner Chris, said he would not charge me because it was negligible. I was happy that they were a good faith company who wouldn't nickel and dime me. Boy, I turned out to be wrong on that! Their work in the shower was just alright. It required a second pass to fix some lines that were not quite straight and they offered to fix it. The shower was substantially less work than initially scoped. The estimate was for a much larger job than needed to be done to fix the shower. I expected to get a discount on the initial estimate. Chris discounted me $200. I agree to pay him the full estimate minus $200 for services not rendered in the initial estimate. After the job is complete, Chris suddenly springs me with an additional charge of $100. He wants to charge me for the balcony patches, which were two child's hand-sized areas. This was quite irritating because not only did they not have to do as much of a job on the shower as they initially thought, but he was going to flip-flop on his initial word that he wouldn't charge me for patching the balcony concrete. He began harassing me via e-mail, using adjectives like "ridiculous" and questioning my character. This was extremely unprofessional and uncalled for. Within a couple of emails he began threatening to take out a lien on my property. That sounded odd to me, like he was bullying and on an anger trip rather than negotiating like a regular contractor. A lien on my property for a dispute over $100? Sounded unreasonable. I would have gladly paid the $100 if he had been honest with the charge up-front, or if he had sent me a change order in writing saying that the balcony patching would take more effort and he wanted to charge for the balcony. It was neither. The patches were tiny and he did much less work in the shower than he initially expected to have to do. It seemed like he was extorting me for additional money after the work was complete because he felt he could get away with threatening me, or because he didn't really like the fact that he had to do a second pass on the shower floor to get it right. I began talking to my condo building manager about this contractor. I learned that he fired one of his workers who was known for doing outstanding work on bathrooms, then threatened him physically if he ever worked on remodeling any of our building units. In short, this guy is trouble. Like the other reviewer also noted, he changes price quotes in the middle of a job or after the job is done, and gets nasty and short-tempered. There are a ton of contractors out there, save yourself a headache.

I hired Gust to install hardwood flooring in one of my rental units, which began falling apart immediately, without anyone ever occupying the unit (i.e., no furniture, just people walking through once in a while to estimate other work). I was told by Gust that it didn't need glue because it was a floating floor. However, the manufacturer's instructions were that it needed to be glued at the tongue and groove (which I verified after the install). Because that mistake was egregious, and because of how I felt about my interactions with them since planning the project in August until they installed the floor in January, I decided they didn't seem competent enough to come back and fix the floor. So at the point that I discovered that the floor had been installed incorrectly, I requested that they provide references that would prove successful work of this kind or that they subcontract to someone with references (though I recognize I obviously should've done that before I hired them). They ignored that request, instead asking that I meet with them at the unit to discuss how to fix the floor. In my opinion, that was unnecessary, since they had already admitted (in writing) to assuming incorrectly that the installation didn't require any glue even though the vendor's instructions were clear that it did require glue. They also suggested using a tape-like product in lieu of adhesive, but I contacted the vendor, who said that was inappropriate, so I decided not to allow them to do it. Instead of arguing this further with them and/or giving them a chance to redo the work (or possibly screw it up even worse), I chose to pay someone else to completely undo and redo the work they did. I've been investing in real estate for years and have dealt with many contractors. In my opinion, Gust Renovations was unprofessional and incompetent and I exhort you to find another contractor AND to ask for and thoroughly investigate references for any contractor you engage with.
