Alex, Edwin, Miguel & Mingo spend almost 6 full days to refresh/tile a 1/2 bathroom and modify a closet so we can move our washer and dryer from the basement to 2F! We've had Alex, Edwin, and the Empire Pro team do a few projects for us now, and all have been done quickly, professionally, and to the highest standards of quality. Most recently, we had them install 8 recessed lights on 2 separate circuits in our living room. Alex provided a competitive estimate quickly, and they did the work a week later, completing the project in half the time we expected. They installed 6 recessed 6" lights on one circuit, and 2 recessed 2" gimbal lights on a separate circuit, repairing and repainting all drywall work to perfection. Although Edwin is a kind and talented man, I believe his brother Alex wasn't happy with how long the job was taking and told him to speed things up. Alex had said it was a two day job but it was taking longer. What started out as great turned quickly into subpar quality. Alex had said the 'punch list' had to be done immediately after Edwin and Roberto finished. He said "he didn't want to drive back out there." They're in Burke and I am Alexandria? I was surprised by this because that is not how it is usually done. So I had to rush through this 'punch list' as Roberto is packing and taking everything to their van. He had to come back in to reapply paint that was taken to the truck. The paint hadn't even completely dried, for heaven's sake's! It was uncomfortable for me to point out mistakes/redos and that's why my husband was going to be there! We just weren't prepared for the punch list to happen while the paint was still wet. While I wasn't expecting wall/trim repair, I was expecting thorough painting, no harden paint on floors, sinks, rugs, fans, and countertops. Frustrating to say the least. Again, on the second day of work, Alex came by and then quality went down quickly!! Edwin, I believe, would have done the paint job expected if he was left alone with his talent. I've waited writing this review because I really believe Edwin is talented! His brother, who I believe runs the business, is just that, a businessman. For the cost of the job, it wasn't worth it. My husband and I are repainting areas and cleaning up the mess that was leftover. I should have asked about the punch list prior to hiring them. I've learned my lesson. Communication is key! I had anticipated getting new floors done, kitchen remodel and other projects as the renters left the home a disaster. I unfortunately will need to keep looking. I've used Alex several times and can attest to the fact that he and his entire crew ALWAYS do a 5+++ . I'm convinced this Brian W (one star guy) has posted to the wrong account. THERE IS NO WAY EMPIRE PRO WOULD EVER PERFORM THE TYPE OF WORK/CLEAN UP HE DESCRIBES! I found them originally on YELP and will not use any other company. Alex checks everything they do, plus he's a genuinely nice person. I would not normally post like this but feel the negative review is very wrong. They removed my old fashioned textured ceiling in my first floor level and made it look perfect...now nice and updated. Can't say enough about how they wrapped everything in plastic (almost a big bubble) and even with sanding I was left with a clean house. A little light dusting and quick floor mop and house was clean. I'd always avoided the sanding route as sure it would be really dusty, but I was very pleasantly suprised . They painted too and was meticulous. I also just had a member of the crew coat my new deck with semi translucent stain. Again, absolutely perfect job! That was our reaction to Empire Pro Painters and Alex's team as they repaired a glaring 2-by-4-foot water-damaged hole in our basement ceiling (caused by a bathroom overview) and a repainting of the entire basement ceiling while we were at it. First, they were very responsive in getting a quote and walk-through. Second, they were able to schedule the work amazingly fast. Despite the ceilings and walls being painted okay, this was the worst paint job I have ever seen. This was an interior job, and unfortunately I was not in town when they were doing the job. The trim paint was not the color I specified; instead, it was the same color as the walls, only in semi-gloss. Trim paint was slopped over the edges of all baseboards, and not just a little. Every door knob had paint on it, along with most light switches. LOTS of drops of paint were on kitchen counters, microwave, even a stove burner, along with bathroom counters and toilets. The kitchen sink, where they cleaned off brushes, was left with paint all over it. One toilet was clogged, and when I used a snake to unclog it, it came out with white stuff on it, probably sheet rock mud, paper towels, etc. They offered to paint the vanity in one bathroom but failed to sand it first. They did not open the drawers and cabinets to paint the parts covered by their edges, and they got paint on all of the drawer pulls and cabinet handles. There were lots of drips left to dry on window trim. The front door was only half painted. Curtains were removed and piled up on the basement stairway, and curtain hardware was left in the back yard, along with a big bag of trash. Lots of curtain hooks were left about on the floor. I worked as a painter long ago, and I can't imagine ever leaving a place looking like this. The crew chief clearly had not looked at their work when he came to be paid. He offered to fix the trim in a day, but I was afraid to let these incompetents back in the house, so I got a discount and cleaned up and redid the trim myself. read more
