After water damage

Charles Graves Painting repaired our badly damaged bathroom ceiling and walls after a water leak from floor above. They were quick to respond, gave a clear and fair estimate, and did an excellent job removing and replacing damaged ceiling drywall and peeling paint from walls. They painting the entire ceiling and walls and the bathroom looks great again. They also found a creative and effective solution to replacing the back of the kitchen cabinet (which had been torn out by the plumber to repair the leaking pipe) without disrupting the plumbing.

I met Charles for a consultation on Wednesday and the work was completed Saturday. I was very pleased at how they were able to squeeze me in with such short notice. The price was great for the amount of work that had to be completed. Charles and the crew were very professional. Although I made last minute changes, a crazy work schedule change, and added a few services, they were able to complete everything without any problem. Everything in the house was covered well, and my belonging are paint free. My house looks amazing. The crown molding is absolutely beautiful, as well as the kitchen. I wish I could post pictures. I will hopefully be seeing the guys again soon.

Night and day difference. Our office training room was looking a little rough after years of meetings, events, etc. Being a real estate office, it wasn't really excusable to have such a lack luster environment to invite clients to. A client referred us to Charles and all I can say is wow. The pictures I'm uploading will say more than I ever could. Easy process, we called SW design consultant per Charles' rec. His crew lead, Wilson, went over the top to help us pick the correct wainscotting for the craftsman look we were going for. Then they got this huge room trim + paint done in only 2 days. We have several other offices that need some love and will definitely be using CGP for those. They have actually agreed to offer a great rate for our real estate clients with fast turnaround, so we are excited about that. Pardon the pics - the room is undergoing AV upgrades and so we do not have a super finished product but you can easily see how great the work is.

We were referred to Charles by a friend over a year ago when we were contemplating painting our entire townhouse. Charles' crew did the job quickly, professionally and at a reasonable price point - not to mention we continue to get compliments on their great work. Earlier this summer when we were looking to update our master bath and powder room, we again contacted Charles and were impressed by his portfolio and pricing. I have never been involved in a home project like this before so it was a bit of a learning experience in terms of everything we needed to purchase and the timing of said purchases so that the crew could stay on schedule. At the end everything came out better than expected and again Charles' crew worked quickly and did an amazing job. The only hiccups we had with some pieces we had ordered were either delayed or arrived late but the crew was very patient with us and helped us get everything we needed. We also had to pull in a glass company for the shower but I think that is pretty standard. Overall I would strongly recommend Charles' team for any bathroom updating and we are already considering updating our other bathroom to put it in par with the others. STRONG RECOMMEND - especially for the price. I'd also recommend working with/ hiring a designer to help you get the look you want and help you know what you need to purchase (especially if you don't have this experience).

I've been meaning to write an update but haven't had an opportunity or motivation to do so until now. After the initial euphoria settled in, the workmanship was just not what we expected and hoped for. I'm not a painter so I do not fully know why the paint on my kitchen cabinets, of which Charles crew refaced, began flaking off in several spots. We had to get it redone by another contractor. While Charles did guaranteed his work, he did not respond to my wife's calls and demands to remedy the defects. Needless to say, we are not please with the durability of the product we were given. I suspected that the cabinets were not adequately sanded and primed so that the paint could properly adhere. The paint should not be peeling after a few months. Anyways, my honest recommendation is to look elsewhere for paint services. My apologies to anyone who may have hired the painter based upon my review and received substandard work.

They did an amazing job on our home! We would highly recommend them! They came out right away and did the job quickly and well. They pick up the paint for you at a discounted rate!

I initially contacted Charles about painting some new closet doors that I was getting and was happy to discover that his painting team was also capable of removing my old closet doors and installing the new ones in addition to painting them. His crew was very courteous and worked quickly. Best of all, the doors ended up looking fantastic.

I didn't think that was possible! He was quick and efficient and honestly just did a wonderful job. And huge thank you to Mitchel for coordinating the project. Working with him was so easy from day 1. I have rarely been able to get a quote, coordinate costs and payments and have a project started and completed in so little time. Mitchel was responsive, helpful with my many questions about paint (I am decision-averse, so I over analyze everything!) and just generally easy to work with. I will 100% look to work with Mitchel and his team again.

He was able to show me examples of his work and give me a quote on the spot. After he knew I was going with his firm, things turned a bit sour. I wanted to chat about a few things so he told me to call at 5 o'clock the next day. I called at 5 o'clock the next day and he seemed a bit irritated. So I asked him if it was a good time to talk. He said well if you want to talk with a toddler around. He was quite curt. He told ME to call him AT 5! The next day I reminded him he told me that I should call at that time and he was still complaining about talking with his child around. If you do not have a baby sitter do not ask clients to call you. I thought he would apologize for his rudeness, he didn't. Instead, I believed I was apologizing. Nuts. Then, I realized I had to remove two medicine cabinets that would leave holes in the walls that would need drywall patches. I told him about that and he said it would be $50 each extra just to do the drywall patches. Fine. Then a couple weeks later he said well are those the kind of cabinets that are hung on the wall or leave a hole when removed. I said there are holes. He proceeded to tell me then that that would probably be more than $50. So, if there are nail holes in the wall it's $50, but if there is a drywall hole it's more? I do not understand that. Mind you, I have emails where he actually wrote "confirmed" on items/clarifications to make sure they were included in the contract. I knew to do that because of the way his contract was written. Apparently, his contract only goes one way, his way. He states specifically that his contract is the entire contract: "Exclusions--Anything not mentioned in scope." I had in the contract to paint the outdoor shutters and white dry lock on the exposed cinderblock walls in the "downstairs laundry room." He's talking to me on the phone the day before, obviously not reading his own contract, and he says the shutters were not included, but he says that's okay. I reminded him they were in the contract. The next day when he goes to start work, he tells me the entire basement is not included. Mind you, he agreed to use dry lock in the "downstairs laundry room." There is no exposed cinderblock in the home except in the laundry room in the basement. He told me he didn't have the basement in any of his notes or video and he asked me if I remember going down there with him. I said I didn't remember. I reminded him of the cinderblock dry lock paint and he said well I assumed that was in the ground level - - so he didn't refer to his video that would clearly not show any exposed cinderblock above ground level ? Mind you, the contract states "Prep and paint all walls, ceilings, trim, and doors throughout the home." Well, he asked for an additional $2800 more. When I said no, it's just getting too expensive for me he dropped it to $2500 more (the contract was already ~$11,000). Mind you, he contracted with me to do the entire home. He reneged on his contract. What was I going to do? Take him to court? I need my home painted and I don't want someone to be forced to paint and do a bad job. Not saying that he would do a bad job, but I also needed it done as soon as possible. At a minimum, he should've owned up to the error. Instead, he tried to put the blame on me because I did not go in the basement with him. Seriously? If he had owned up to the mistake and given me a much better price, I probably would've gone with him. Mind you, his crew was already there and he had started putting paper down in a few rooms. He probably lost more money taking his crew away and losing a day of scheduled painting. I am just very disappointed. I think he probably would do a beautiful job, but I can't go with someone who changes the price while at the job. Is it my responsibility to walk into every room with him to make sure he has every room in his notes and video?
