A perfect choice for what we wanted! We just arrived in the area today, RVing our way from Georgia. After parking at the campground, we then drove around for two hours looking at the area and now we were looking for a full meal. I love the idea of a brewery (and I love a good flight!). We settled on an appetizer of calamari. It was so good that we decided to share just appetizers (crab stuffed mushrooms - ah-ma-ZING!...steak tips (ask for them medium rare).They were delicious and a huge portion with horseradish sauce...and the ceasar salad was served as two huge slices of the freshest romaine with Parmesan and fresh dressing.). Ordered the prairie quail with saffron rice and twice baked potatoes. Rice was delicious and so was the quail albeit difficult to eat (worth it). 3 restaurants in one location. Large beer selection. The Tap Room had a variety of food options but as a vegetarian my only options were a mushroom appetizer & fried rice. They had 3 wines from a box, and so we tried the more "upscale" Pounding Fathers upstairs. They had a better wine selection, but my food options were limited to salad and a couple of the side items. My husband had the Tatonka cannelloni & he said it was ok. We keep our expectations low when in tourist areas, but I wish we had gone somewhere else for our one night in town. read more

There are three restaurants here and we ate at The Founding Fathers with our dog (dog friendly seating on the large deck). Alejandro was our server and he immediately brought out water and a dog treat for our pup. There are a lot of good choices on the menu and prices seemed fair for the selection. This Brewery/Restaurant was a very nice place. Please see pictures I took of it for reference. We ordered beer cheese pretzels and the beef brisket. Both were tasted amazing, especially the sauce you had over the beef brisket with mushrooms was the best. My only complaints were... when we first arrived we were ignored for 15-20 minutes then I had to say something to the manager to get a waiter to come so we can order drinks. But once he finally came to our table out on the porch/deck I put our order in for everything all at once. Because I didn't want to take a chance he would forget to come and take our order. The food really made up for the long wait for a waiter to come. Which by the way our table was right next to the hostess area, so not sure why it took so long for service. When our food came out everything was cold especially the veggies and potatoes almost as if he let our food sit out awhile before bringing it out to our table. Then the waiter kept forgetting to get our check after we asked for it. The inside of this place was really neat. You can see all of the distillery for making their own beer which was really cool and fascinating. If we ever come back here to vacation we will try it out again. read more

Burgers were OK but for the price expected more. The service was awful. Got a different menu then was online and waitress was totally under trained. We asked her some simple questions about the food and she just said she's never eating there. I got a side salad with no dressing she also never asked how we wanted our burgers cooked. Easy to get to location, the downstairs is pub with hamburgers and typical bar food; upstairs is probably just about the same menu with a few add-ons such as steaks, seafood and such. Nice roomy place, cool looking bar. We visited the Mt Rushmore Brewing Company (2nd floor) over the Memorial Day weekend 2023. Looked at the menu, ordered water and drinks. Waiter came back with drinks and we placed our order. Visited, looked around (good decorating, nice distance between tables, good mood lighting) then when the waitperson returned we placed our food order. The husband order the 12oz prime rib dinner and I ordered the Walleye with veggies. A bit later the meal arrived and to be honest, we were underwhelmed just looking down at our plates. There was this "au jus" over the prime rib that looked like something that had come out of a can, then someone did a Sandra Lee (https://people.com/food/sandra-lee-top-shelf-pantry-recipes/) on it to bump it up a little. Neither of us could remember reading that the steak would have this sauce smothered over it (think A1 sauce + tomato paste + worchester sauce) -- we would'a said "one the side please." The walleye was a little square of some type of very thin white fish in a folded parchment paper. I think Red Lobster would win this competition. Service was good, it's not the waitperson's fault. If we were ever to visit this restaurant again I'd suggest we's give the burgers and fries but I feel pretty sure my dinner partner would balk at a second visit. We were seated pretty quickly for dinner. If you want a dinner you will need to dine upstairs. If you prefer finger foods, then you can dine downstairs. The atmosphere is casual. We ordered the halibut with roasted asparagus and a 12 oz. Prime rib with seasonal veggies and baked potato. Both were outstanding. Our friends ordered pretty much the same plus the wedge salad. For drinks we had a Long Island Iced Tea and a Buffalo Snot Stout Beer. The servers were attentive and very accommodating whenever we needed anything. If ever in the area again, we would definitely visit but would probably try the finger foods just to try something different. read more

The beet salad is delicious! Nice spring greens, cranberries, cashews, goat cheese, beets, and a vinaigrette that made it special. My elk burger wasn't as done as I like it but I ate it anyway. My husband enjoyed the mussels. We sat at the bar as they were pretty crowded on a Thursday night. There is seating outside on both deck levels and lots of tables inside. The bartenders were super. Great deck for outdoor dining, nice taproom, too! We did not go to the upstairs dining room, so it's not addressed here. The deck and taproom have the same menu. Bar room type food: appetizers, burgers, pizza. We had the mail del Ojo (Mexican lager) and Black Hills Gold (Pilsner) / both were excellent and served in the tall glasses pictured here. Wonderful, cold, after a day waking, touring, shopping. In our two trips we tried the BYOB burger which were excellent. I also tried the old bay seasoning fries- they were excellent! Went for the classier menu, chose the crab stuffed mushrooms, pork osso bucco and a slice of caramel cheesecake for my birthday. Hubby had the steak tips. Server was trying much too hard, asking things like wasn't that just delicious?!!! Instead of how is everything. I'm sure he was just trying to be different but it was off putting as it really wasn't all that. Upstairs in what is called the restaurant there were so many tvs with mainly sports playing, it did not feel like a nice restaurant. It felt like a sports bar. The osso bucco was the best part, soft, flavorful. Paired with the potatoes was salty but it was still the best part. The crab mushroom app had this mayo based topping on it and that was a bit much. Would've been better without or at least less. And the cheesecake tasted store bought with a weird bitter berry puree that didn't go well. Looked pretty though and they put a little candle on it for my bday so that was nice. We don't go out to eat often and did my research before going so I was disappointed. The good: Nice selection of fairly tasty and some unique beers The bad: After trying a flight of beers, we went to eat at the Barrel Room and received the worst service we've had at any location for about three years. It took a while to be acknowledged, then we waited, and waited, and waited for our food to come (we're talking a fried dumpling appetizer and flatbread pizza). We did get the beers we ordered, then after about 45 minutes with no contact from wait staff we contemplated just leaving. Then after ~50 minutes our pizza came out ... you could tell it had set a bit, but it was at least somewhat tasty. When I asked about our appetizer dumplings I was told they gave them to another table. But then they managed to get us some greasy bomb dumplings relatively quick (you could tell they had been hurried). Never once did we get follow-up or were we asked if we were okay, or if we even wanted another beer ... Just awful service. Here's the kicker ... I asked to speak with the manager only to find out the person waiting on us was the manager!!! You can't make this stuff up. The folks at the next table just had sodas and left because they waited to pay for drinks and another waiter never came back. So I say to whoever reads this ... if ya want to try some decent beers this is an okay place, but run do not walk somewhere else to eat!!! There are too many other options to waste your time here. We went after a hike in the early afternoon, especially since we have dogs and didn't want them during a super busy time. The outdoor patio is super spacious and really large. The view was facing the trees, but better than watching traffic. The weather turned out perfect that day, so sitting in the sun was just warm enough to enjoy the outdoor space and for the dogs to take a well deserved nap. Service was good, but most of that was attributed to a slow part of the day. I can't speak to when they're a little more busy, but they were overall great! They were super nice in bringing water for the dogs. We just shared some nachos, since we didn't want to eat a lot before our planned dinner. The food was standard bar nachos, so nothing spectacular but nothing bad to say about it. I would think this would be a nice place to just hang out and enjoy some time with friends in little Custer. My wife and I were on vacation near Mt. Rushmore and we were in Custer, right outside of Custer National Park. (Which is beautiful) After the Wilderness Trail, we went into town for lunch and I had an Elk Burger and Big Caesar Salad. I gave my cottage cheese to my wife. The elk burger had an option to add blue cheese crumbles. Ummm....Yes please. Not as juicy as an earlier elk burger I had, but that is a minor complaint. I ordered a side Caesar salad for 4 bucks I think, and it was a huge win. Do it, I promise you that you will not regret it. I got 2 IPAs and they have a great variety of beers. Both of the beers were awesome! Long Tom is the starter one I got. Really good! We ate outside and our server was super awesome and the food came out pretty quickly, there is a sit down restaurant upstairs, but it wasn't open yet. Try this place, it was really fun and a great stop after the Wilderness Trail. Even if we only saw burros. ;-) read more

The fine dining restaurant in the second floor of the Mt Rushmore Brewery is fabulous. The food is delicious and beautifully plated. The servers are terrific. We ate here two nights in a row. The first night we shared the elk medallions. The second night we shared the walleye baked in parchment. The wine list is very nice. Out of five beers in a flight, I really liked four of them. We stopped here last year but could not remember the experience so decided to try it again. The atmosphere is very open and we sat outside on a beautiful day. The chairs outside are not at all comfortable. I realized after looking at the beer menu why I did not remember this brewery. The beer selections all plentiful but the did not have any stouts and only one IPA, a West Coast IPA which was very mediocre and not much flavor. The food selections are basic bar type foods, but elevated. We shared a Buffalo Chicken Pizza which was very good. The service was acceptable. We ordered the Margharita Barrata pizza, and it was absolutely one of the best pizzas I've ever tasted!. It was loaded with cheese and had just the perfect blend of seasonings, especially basil. They have a very nice variety of craft beers, with a free sample or two if you're not sure. Outdoor seating reminded me of a ski lodge! Lots of tables with an upper and lower deck, with lower deck providing some shade. Outside, dogs are welcome, and they give them free water and a biscuit.
