Crow Peak may very well be my favorite brewery in the area. I love the indoor and outdoor seating options & the fire is a nice look. Even when it's busy, it never seems to feel overcrowded. Service is good & staff are very knowledgeable about their products. We visited this brewery for a nightcap, and for the night with our Harvest Hosts membership. This allows us to stay the night at some pretty cool places in our campervan, with the understanding that we patronize the place. We had a chance of plans and requested to come here on the same day, which I never like to do but Crow Peak responded almost immediately "come on by!" and I knew right away the service and care was going to be super duper. Most places can take a couple of days to respond. When we got there, it was kindof late maybe an hour before closing but Heather, who was behind the bar, was still chipper as can be and happy to see us. We had great conversation - she gave us some amazing tips about the area and made us feel so at home. She talked to us about the importance of not leaving trash on the hiking trails. Of course that garnered great respect from me, that she took the time to make sure people were doing that. I overheard her ask a couple of bikers if they were going to wear their helmets on the drive home. I loved hearing that, too, because knowing you have loved ones at home might be the simple reminder someone needs to save a life. There were many minor details I noticed in that closing hour of Crow Peak Brewing Company where I think Heather makes a difference. All of them added up to me means Heather is making a major difference, and we should all strive to be like Heather. She's a great bartender, but an especially great human. Passing through and needed a break and a beer. We got the 11th Hour IPA. Great flavor and perfect for a hot day. They are very dog friendly which was nice since it was a little warmer than usual out. I was in the Black Hills area and was told it was worth the drive to Spearfish to check out Crow Peak BC. They were right! They do serve flights and have some simple fare such as pizza. I did order one of the pizzas, which was huge, and only cost $10. As for the beer, the Cream Ale was my favorite. I'd heard tales of the Pile O' Dirt Porter, but I wasn't overly impressed with it. I'm still giving five stars because the brewery is doing a great job, is in a great location, and had great customer service. I'm not going to take a star simply because I wasn't a fan of one of the beers. We've all got different tastes. If you're in the vicinity of Spearfish, do yourself a favor and stop by Crow Peak BC. I went here last weekend, October, and they had their "Octoberfest" going on. So I'm going to gather that this was as good as it gets. They had at least two bands playing (we left after the second band), and I was in heaven. Why? Here's what's scarce in the Black Hills: 1. Good folk music (not hillbilly folk, just cool accoustic). Heck, to be truthful, ANY good local music here is scarce. 2. Microbrewries--though that's slowly starting to change, thank goodness. 3. Attractive, single, educated people over 40. So when we walked in, saw cool people (a blend, my gathering, of 1. transplants from Colorado and 2. academic types from Black Hills State University), retro-punk, post-grunge, artsies and hippies, I about cried in happiness. Normally, redneck, hillbilly, yuppie or biker-types is what you find around Rapid City. I had the I.P.A, and it was very good. As for the crowd, I cannot attest what it's like on a normal Saturday night. But it did seem like many people knew each other, so maybe it's pretty fun when there's not a festival going on. Huge perk--no TV sets. No pool tables and darts and video lottery. Hence, this is a socialization place, NOT a sports bar, which is heaven since Rapid City just down the road has about 1,000 of those which all look 100% the same inside and out. Drawbacks: 1. While I love the big ceilings and curiously nautical overhead fans, seating is nix. It's got the Ireland-style, big open tables you can sit at, but you'll be elbow-to-elbow with some stranger. Not that, that's bad, but it's different. 2. With the three-story high ceiling, I wondered why they haven't put in a loft. It would be GREAT and a smart investment. A half-loft could be put up there with many small tables, and they could look down below at the big tables, creating much more space. 3. Even though this was an all-day long festival of bands, they had ONE bartender for the whole place and shockingly NO table service. A line, 14, people deep, lined up to get a beer at the bar. Not good. 4. Oddly, no ice or fountain drinks. So my non-alcohol drinking friend had to quickly drink her pop lest it get warm. 5. Apparently, no food. So it's got some nicks to buff out. But I'll be back. And this is because of the clientele. If you like the artistic side, the intellectual hang and want to talk, THIS is a people-bar. read more

We stopped here while driving through Spearfish. It is a cute establishment, but definitely not for us. My biggest concern/discomfort was that there was a full wedding party in the establishment during a week where South Dakota had seen a triple-digit case spike in COVID-19 cases. There was no mask wearing inside by staff or patrons, and zero effort to social distance. We realize that South Dakota thinks COVID-19 does not exist, but businesses still have a responsibility to their patrons and staff to make good choices. We called ahead to see if they have food (they don't, but there is a decent BBQ place across the parking lot) and the staff member who answered the phone was surly and unhelpful. In addition to this the IPA was over-hopped, and too bitter. At best I would call it average and not unique. Overall, I don't recommend this. read more

Coming from the PNW where I have tasted some incredible cream ales - especially on the Oregon Coast, this one really fell flat, almost tasting like a cheap beer. This place would of received 5 stars from me, but the bartender with the fancy mustache had to ruin it. Just to make things clear I am not the douchy guy who waves money and barks out "Yo! Hey! Can I get a beer over here?!". No I am the polite, wait my turn kind of guy who truly can identify when someone's busy. In the process of trying to order beers 2 different times, I was blatantly ignored by the bartender. The second time I went up, there was no one else even at the bar and he just walked around talking about his plans for the weekend or something to one of the other employees. It came off so rude and arrogant. I waited for so long to order that another guy behind the bar had to come to check on me. I'll tell you, acknowledgement goes a long way. If 1 of the 3 people behind the bar would have at least said "some will be with right with you", this review would have been so different. The positives, great beer and a great setup. read more

THEY OPEN AT FOUR PM. those five words would have saved me a half hour of waiting around, but whatever. there's a couple farmer's markets in the vicinity that helped me bide my time. however, once they are open, crow peak is the the best place to get locally made craft brew. they have a great variety, featuring mainstay IPA, porter, and cream ales, but also a dizzying array of seasonal and special brews throughout the months. you'll want to bring a growler, just sayin'. they tend to sell out quickly, but they will honor any growler for a refill. it's a litle hard to find, but if you're looking on yelp chances are you know how google maps works. read more

Walked in, walked back out, pretty much. I love trying locally brewed beer wherever I visit, however, they don't serve food here. They allow you to bring food in, and I think they had some chips/etc behind the bar, but I had gone here expecting to buy dinner and left disappointed. My mother has lived in this area for 5 years, and had always known of Crow Peak, and had no idea they did not serve food. However, we were able to go to a Spearfish Chophouse & Whiskey Bar that actually carried Crow Peak on tap, and get the food we wanted and the local beer as well, so it's good Crow Peak distributes locally. I tried the 'Pile o Dirt' (if I recall correctly) Porter, which was quite good. Didn't get a chance to try others, as the Chophouse was tapped of Crow Peak's IPA. Giving 3 stars -- mostly due to the fact that there was no service (or even the bartender stepping over quick to ask us to order at bar -- she was just standing there talking), and though it's mostly our fault for 'expecting' food there, but it *looks* like a brewpub/restaurant, with the tables everywhere. A sign/notice (or if there was one, a more noticeable one) indicating no food served would have been nice. *BUT* if you want just beer, and love a good local brew, I suggest you try it out. I wish I had a chance at trying others of theirs, but if their porter was an indication, they put forth some good beer. read more

Loved the 11th Hour IPA, and all the other beers we sampled. Quality, clean brew. The Wicca is brewed with roasted Anaheim peppers was out of this world. I have had two other beers with peppers very recently, and this one stands out head and shoulders above those other ones. 5pm on a Thursday had a few patrons; an hour later, standing room only. Reasonably priced, then throw happy hour on top and you've got a deal. HH is $1 off pints, $0.50 off 1/2 pints; M-Th: 4-6; F-Sat: 9-10. Only eats are bags of popcorn ($2.50, really good) and pretzels. They have a game where you place your $1 bet and roll 5 dice. If you get all 5 the same, then you get all the money in the jar. If you get 4 out of 5, then you get a free pint. read more

The beer here is fantastic! The atmosphere is great, laid back and relaxed. Not too pricey for the quality. Try the UnNatural Light Coffee Black IPA, to die for. The pizza is made in a wood fire food truck; and was fantastic. Great thin crust pizza by Black Hills Woodfire Pizza. read more

The sad thing here is they do not server food. they have slowly gotten bigger and I actually had my first Chili beer from this place, so totally recommended. The only other complaint other than no food is the owners. Great beer made right here in Spearfish. Fun building with great outdoor seating. Can be a touch hard to ring. Make sure to Mapquest or use your GPS. Wonderful staff and owners are usually around which is always nice to see. Beers are on tap through our the Hills. Rapid City's Independent Ale House does there best to keep as many Crow Peak beers on tap. If you get a chance to try one of their beers please do you will be happy you did. Cheers! read more

We were visiting from Texas, and discovered Crow Peak beer while eating dinner at Killians. After falling in love with the Canyon Creek Ale, we had to visit the brewery. The brewery is a neat atmosphere, as most are. We tried a 4 beer sampler, the IPA was very smooth compared to most. We still like the Canyon Creek Ale the best.
