This is for the TAPROOM: Great facility, true brewery setup. Sadly many of the beers were crossed out on the menu. Others were scribbled on with grease pen but it was very difficult to read. We were done with the appetizer (more on that in a moment) before we were able to inquire on the status of our beer and wine. He forgot to order it. Not sure what was eventually brought to the table was actually the beer my husband ordered. It didn't taste or look like an IPA. Started with the pretzel, which was dry, and beer cheese appetizer and while the cheese sauce was plentiful, it tasted like canned nacho cheese with some Rotel. Next came the Prime Rib Sliders. The buns were cold (not room temp) and the sliders were bland. Tasted more like roast beef than prime rib. Overall food and service could use improvement. Would not return. read more

I had the steamed Walleye and it was pretty tasty. Service could have been better though.

Avoid it, not worth the hype. We visited with friends who heard they had 4.5 stars, but we can't give it more than 1. In fairness, we didn't try drinks or food at the restaurant, but definitely don't visit or order food or drinks from the Barrel Room. Drinks: Our resident beer drinker was happy with the porter. Our wine person chose the Malbec, she called it Mal-blech. Two Old Fashioneds for the other 2 of us, the Woodford Reserve was decent, but the one with Angel's Envy was terrible and most certainly not made with Angels Envy. We all tasted it and agreed it was nasty. The server brought the bartender over, and he couldn't give a hoot about it and seemed annoyed that we didn't like the sink water swill he served us. Bummer. Food: Spring roll app was yummy, and the and the rib eye flat bread lead the lineup, no complaints there. The Saltado was ok, but bland. Solid last place was the Shrimp Khao Pad (Grilled pineapple with curry shrimp). Lacking any taste of curry, we asked for some on the side and were told they didn't have any, but to our server's credit he did try to appease with Frank's Hot Sauce and some chili powder. None worked or did the trick of course, mostly because it was called CURRY shrimp, so zero stars on this one. Our server was really trying, so we tipped him well, but just can't recommend this as a good option in Custer. read more

Great find! We sat out back. Kids played games and we enjoyed a beer. I had the IPA, tasty. Service was slow but we were not in a rush. But there was definitely room for improvement there. I had the chili cheese brat and really liked it! We were a party of eight and everyone really liked their lunch. Even the fussy teenagers. Fun menu with lots of interesting things to try. read more

This is for the fabulous upstairs restaurant Pounding Fathers... what a wonderful experience on a Monday evening... the cuisine was outstanding... The attention to detail by the wait staff was superb... this is a wonderful upscale restaurant but, with a casual vibe to it... if you're looking for an elegant meal this may be a fantastic choice for you enjoyed it immensely. read more

Stopped in for lunch and suds. The beer was excellent, but the food ranged from sorry to nearly inedible. Got the fish n' chips which consisted of two miserly pieces of fried breading with traces of fish inside. For 2.99, I upgraded to onion rings in place of fries. Six small onion rings that were mostly breading was my reward. The slaw that accompanied the dish was a thimbleful wolfed down in one bite. The corn fritters ordered on the side were tasty but heavy on the breading. Only 10 pieces, but I wish I hadn't ordered them because they are pricy for what they are. In summary, drink the beer and avoid the food. Five stars for the beers I tried, one star for the sad excuse for a meal. read more

We heard about this place after getting a 10% discount coupon from our hotel. The fitst thing we found out was they're very pet-friendly. That's an immediate plus for us as we travel with our dog. The bartender was fast and efficient and even brought our dog a water bowl and some treats when he took our drink order. The Rauch Pils was delicious. The buffalo burger was delicious as well. We also enjoyed the music playing in the Barrel Room. We would definitely go there again. read more

Pleasant roomy seating on back patio, good service. But the food was mediocre at best. I had the chicken cordon bleu. The chicken was very dried out and tasteless. Food came out so fast I can only think it was premade and had set in a warmer for a long time or was reheated. Best thing on the plate was the cauliflower. I think that says it all. read more

Ordered 2 elk burgers and both were totally different and tasted awful. Other members the table ordered the trash can nachos, the chips were burnt and it didn't come with any cheese. The server was clueless and didn't even bring silverware. We had to ask for almost everything... straws, condiments, napkins... Worst experience I've had in years. Do not eat here, unless it's on the 2nd floor restaurant. (Higher quality food) read more

4.5 for the beer, especially the Rail Splitter 4.0 for the food... an interesting menu but both times we visited they were out of menu items (perhaps due to our late in the season visit) 3.0 for service... first visit the service was wonderful (Fabrizio), second visit we were kind of left hanging; it happens, I understand, and it would not keep us from visiting again. read more

Good brews. Overpriced food and you don't get what you ordered. I ordered the Santa Fe salad with Cajun chicken. The menu indicated the salad came with romaine, black beans, blackened kernel corn, chipped red peppers and red onions. What was served was a small bowl of romaine couple slivers of onion, maybe a tablespoon of black beans and chicken. Half the ingredients were missing. When i questioned our waiter he claimed he didn't know what goes in the salads. He is just a server. Terrible service and overpriced food. Go some place else to eat. If you want a beer, not bad... just beware of the flies, all doors are open and 80 degrees inside read more

Not my favorite. We were unaware that the lower level had a different menu than the upper dining room. We got fish and chips which was mediocre at best, house salad with salmon and fried pickles. The house salad had only three options of dressing - and the salmon was watery and cold. The fried pickles had about 6 pickles and the rest was French fries - I asked him why? For $9 dollars that seems odd. No dip was offered till I asked. The beers were the only thing that were great. Disappointing for 70 dollars read more

Service could have been better with multiple errors throughout our meal. Even more disappointing was our burgers. Both were grossly overcooked and unseasoned. The french fries were good, but at room temperature. On the plus side, the beer was very good. read more

What is up with the somewhat loud Celtic music? No tasting of beer unless you buy a 5 beer flight for $14. Ordered a Long Tom IPA which was good then a rutherfruit something which had no taste. The Buffalo burger was ok but thin and the fish and chips didn't seem to be anything fresh. The blue cheese crumble topping for the burger for a charge of $1.00 was dressing out of a bottle (I surmise). We were going to order another beer but really could not listen to the music any longer. Erin Go Bar. Service good and all wore masks. read more

Was good. Food was a nice surprise, service was good, not too much to complain about otherwise

Overall, very average spot in a touristy town. The place itself is really large and they have a huge deck which is nice. When you walk in, they show you two menus and say one menu is for downstairs and one upstairs. I opted to stay downstairs for a beer or two and an elk burger. They have a few beers and I tried to order ipa but they were out. I got the golden lager instead and it was very average. Elk burger they didn't ask me how I wanted it cooked, so I assumed they did it to recommended temp. It was served very well done and flavorless. Good bacon on top though and good fries. Overall and average tourist spot nothing to write home about and don't order the elk burger unless you make sure they cook it right. read more

The service is pretty good. The table got calamari and steak tips. They were both amazing. For the meal i got Veal Chop and it was very good besides the marinara sauce which I would ask to be left off. The ambiance was loud but good. read more

Happened upon this place as a pit stop in Custer for lunch & it did not disappoint!! Exceptionally dog friendly, our server Alonzo provided water bowls & treats for our pups. The food was amazing, it was hard to pick from the menu with all of the different options! Gluten Free friendly as well. The service was absolutely wonderful, Alonzo was kind and accommodating. Would highly recommend! read more

Started with a flight of 5 beers which I wouldn't venture to review other than to say that the Czech style "605" was my favorite. Probably someone will say "that's because it's the most like Bud" and I couldn't legally deny it, although I was not looking for that. The "rail splitter" beer lived up to its bourbon barrel claims, with heavy Overtones of bourbon. Extremely pleasant atmosphere, big outdoor deck was perfect on a breezy June afternoon. Stopped in early (4:00ish) because we skipped lunch to get into Wind Cave, were warmly greeted, and a place was made for us out of the direct sunlight. The beef-beer stew was wonderful. Served in a dark bread bowl. So also the ample serving of spinach and artichoke dip. Live music began (this is a Thursday evening) at about 6pm. Prices pretty reasonable for the area and popularity. Really nice place. But no, you can't see Mount Rushmore from here. read more

We had such a good time here! My husband really enjoyed his West Coast IPA and I enjoyed my hard apple cider. We shared the beer cheese dip and pretzels. The service was amazing. Ate here once while in Custer and loved it. The servings are good sized and you won't leave hungry. The beer is great I tried the Oktoberfest and Oatmeal Snot and both were fantastic. We had their pizza and fish and chips which were both delicious. The pizza crust was the only thing we didn't care for but the cheese they use was delicious. Good beer. Been here a few times. Closes a little early but worth a try if youre in the area.

The food was great. We loved sitting on patio and customer service was good and quick.

Surprisingly -- and I say this for obvious reasons -- the tiger ceviche is quite good. Also had the yakisoba and I thought it was pretty good as well. Wouldn't expect those items on the menu at a brewery but glad I ordered them. Good foosball table. read more

First, WIFI was out so only took cash. Waited over an hour for artichoke spinach dip. Also ordered a burger which took in access of of an hour and a quarter. Nachos were good but not warm. The server was very nice and understanding. The beer was not spectacular. When we mentioned something about the delayed order, I got the impression they did not care because we were tourist. 2nd visit in 3 days ... very efficient and attentive service, simple typical brewpub menu with a couple of twists ... liked the old bay fries with the Chicken Strips ... and the Grilled Cod Fish and Chips was a winner ... most importantly the beer was excellent. Try a sampler: American Fabius - Slightly hoppy, grassy, herbaceous, light-bodied, creamy palate ... delicious Truster buster - full richness on palate, smoky, gamey ... tasty! Mal de Ojo - Malty, grainy, Marzen-like, long pleasant finish ... might be our favorite Olde Ale - winey, vinous, overripe flavors ... definitely showed it's heat (ABV). A couple of these will extend your afternoon nap Buffalo Snot - Coffee, cocoa, roasty, malty flavors ... not too heavy but full-bodied very long finish ... a winner That's just the tip of the iceberg everything we had was very well-crafted ... the place was super comfortable ... outdoor patio for a sweet afternoon stop. Definitely worth a visit read more
