This review is loooong overdue! I found Matt when I first moved to Tracy over 6 years ago. Since then he has worked on 2 different cars for me and multiple cars of my family. The first time I brought my car to him, he saved me going out of his way to find that my catalytic converter was covered under warranty after the dealership had wanted to charge me to replace it! He's so kind, honest, and I know that I can trust him to tell me exactly what's wrong and give me a realistic price. I'll go out of my way to drive to Tracy from East Bay to have him fix my cars, I would definitely recommend using him for your car needs! He's absolutely the best! read more

Matt is a great guy. He's the only guy that works in his shop so you might have to wait a bit if there's someone ahead of you. He works really hard to get things done properly. Went there to have our clutch kit replaced and the car's been running perfect since. I highly recommend MT Motors. read more

Being a mechanic myself for several years, I am extremely picky with who touches my vehicles and unless completely necessary (Tires, Wheel alignments, smog checks, etc...), I do the work myself (I have more diagnostic tools than some of the shops in town). I recently had a job that would have been difficult to do on ramps in my driveway (Transmission Service on a 2006 LR3 Land Rover), and I had annual camping trip with the guys from work coming up, so I was under the gun to get it taken care of. With being busy at work, I decided I would shop around. I called several places and did not feel comfortable with ANY of them, until I spoke with Matt. Over the phone he explained what would need to be done and having planned to do this job myself, I knew that he knew exactly what he was doing. I dropped off the Rover and we shared a few stories and compared a few diagnostic tools, and this guy is awesome! I feel like he could be my new best friend, he's just that nice of a guy! Matt completed the job to perfection! I even questioned/tested him on a few things and not only did he have answers for me, he actually had photos and my old parts, which for me was even better. I am extremely pleased with everything he did. Another bonus for finding Matt is that being a mechanic, everyone asks me where they can take their car for servicing. I usually end up helping them out because I've never trusted anyone else, that is until now. So far, I have referred Matt to a few other folks and he has done a fantastic job for them. I would give him 10 stars if I could! I would highly recommend Matt! read more

I've been to this shop several times. Matt is super friendly and helpful. He's willing to help on the spot with diagnostic checks. I like the fact that he specializes in European vehicles! His prices are fair and is good with communication about the work being with the vehicles I've brought to him. Would and have recommended to other friends. read more

I brought my fathers 7 series to Matt at MT Motors and we talked for quite some time. He learned the trade in Germany and spent many years there as a German Automotive Technician. His attention to detail, and quality of work surpasses Dealerships and other Automotive shops at a fraction of the price. If you want quality work, at a great, fair price you need to visit Matt at MT Motors read more

I ended up at Matt's shop with my VW van based on these reviews -- which happen to be really old. But still current: Matt is the first car guy that I trust to the same extent I trust my medical doctor. Or a family member. Heck, if Matt wants to be my long-lost brother, that's OK. I have been extremely pleased. Matt goes beyond the call to get work done right and for less than an arm-and-a-leg. He's the mechanic everyone wants and few can find. I am recommending Matt to all my friends, but let's keep him our secret, OK? He has a small shop and I don't want to stand at the end of a very long time. read more

Based on previous reviews from Yelp, I decided to call Matt and give it try. Well, I am glad I did! Matt quickly diagnose the problem on my VW and addressed it. Great work! I definitely plan to go back for all future repairs. read more

I do my research, shop around and compare before I do business with anyone. And I don't mind driving the distance if I know that I'll be treated fairly and honestly. I would normally take my car to the dealership for regular maintenance. When they couldn't take my car in to fit my schedule, I started looking for a local mechanic as backup. MT motors came highly recommended by a foreign car specialist in town. When I first contacted Matt, he asked if my car is under warranty and I said yes. He then tells me that he can service the car but I may lose the warranty on it. So he suggested that I wait and take advantage of the warranty service with the dealership and call him back for future repair)s) once warranty expires. I was totally impressed that he would turn away business so a prospective customer can save money! Two years later, I called him back (of course)! Lucky for us, we found ourselves a great mechanic we can trust and one who truly cares! Thanks, Matt! read more

Decided to come here because of a good review from another Evo owner. I figured at the least, this guy will be familiar with my car. Turns out, Matt was great! He's a friendly guy who will definitely try and take of your car issues as best possible. He was easy to contact and kept me posted on updates with parts and time frames. When it was time to get my car he showed me more specifically what parts were malfunctioning and how he tried to salvage things before entirely replacing the parts. I have to get my clutch replaced soon and I feel completely comfortable taking my car back to him. Definitely recommend Matt at MT Motors! read more

Contacted Matt about repairing my wifes Cabrio. Got her car in and repaired. He was courtesy and kept me informed of the repairs. Have not had a single issue with the items repaired (as it should be after repairs). I will continue to have my cars repaired at his shop. His shop was organized and clean...for a repair shop. I would give more stars if i could! I was reffed to Matts shop a few months ago after I had been having imminence trouble with my cars breaks. I had recently replaced my breaks and rotors on my 2011 vehicle for now the second time and upon leaving the dealership I had a horrible break sequel (that never went away until Matt fixed it) and days later I already had a warp in my rotors. All these things were stated under warranty upon purchase. I returned with my problems and they denied me the warranty without an explanation and stated it would cost the same that I had payed days earlier to replace. So obviously I will not be working with the dealership anymore. I went to Matt and explained my problems. We discussed different brands that would benefit for long term and so on. After replacing all breaks and front rotors he discovered that one of my brakes had been installed backwards from the previous people.. Great. He explained why I warped so quickly (I drive really hard and I also work in SF so I overly ride my breaks unnecessarily on hills). Lesson learned. He assumes that is why they wouldn't honor the warranty (something they could have easily explained to me). No one should work twice as hard for half the money when it's my fault so I understand why they denied the warranty but lost my business simply for poor communication. That is why Matt is awesome. Everything has been running smoothly since. Matt simply is thorough and will get the job done with expertise! Thanks so much for your help! read more

Matt is great! Nothing more needs to be said. I just bought a 1985 Porsche 944 that was running a rough around the edges. I brought it to Matt and he diagnosed the problem immediately. I found MT motors here on yelp. It's right off my commute. I called and talked to Matt the other day about an oil change on my '94 S500 that I recently got from another enthusiast. In the few minutes talking with him, I knew he was detailed and attentive. Today, I stopped by for an oil change and inspection and I can echo all of the comments of that the others have left for Matt when I say I trust Matt - he's personable, knowledgeable, and thorough. I feel much more confident commuting in this near classic with Matt as my mechanic. Thank you! read more

I have known Matt over 13 years. He has been our family Mechanic and he is very good taken care of our vehicles. Very trustworthy and knows what he is doing , he is like family never over charging us and installing quality parts. Highly recommended for any car repairs !!! read more

Matt at MT Motors has been a great help. He is friendly, attentive to his customer's needs and extremely fair and honest. My car was having issues staying started and I suspected it was a fuel pump issue which would have cost hundreds of dollars to fix. When I brought it to Matt he diagnosed the issue immediately as a wire that had been chewed by a mouse! Instead of performing lots of unnecessary work, he repaired the issue and I am now a lifelong customer. He also performed a timing chain replacement for a reasonable cost and it runs perfectly. I highly recommend MT Motors for any service needed. read more

Sometimes, you just get lucky. Lucky that I broke down where I did. Lucky that I have Yelp as a resource. And lucky that I found MT Motors. Passing through Tracy on a Friday afternoon on my way to Reno I noticed steam coming up from the hood of my car while going through a drive-through. Then I noticed that my temperature gauge had maxed out. Trusting MT's rating I called and explained my situation to Matt. After some discussion he said, "Why don't you bring it by and I'll take a look". With three other cars in what appeared to be a one man shop, he took the time to troubleshoot my problem. We discovered a burned out radiator fan, and broken relay wire. Given the 200,000 miles on my '92 Celica, he suggested we also replace the thermostat, radiator cap and upper coolant hose. He call a couple places to locate parts, which were delivered from Stockton after a couple hours, and he stayed late into Friday to get it all done. Matt didn't explain the coolant as being part of the problem, but he completely flushed and replaced my radiator coolant as part of the repair, giving me the leftovers in the jug in case I needed it later. When he was all done, with genuine concern for my situation, he started the car, let it heat up, made sure the fan worked, checked the hoses, and only then, being satisfied that everything was fine, sent me on my way. Humble, compassionate, comprehensively competent, and craftsman-like in his mindful attention to detail, Matt is an exception to the perception you might have of mechanics. May you be fortunate enough to have the misfortune of needing his services! read more

Matty thanks again. Great job in the clutch replacement on the evo 8!!! Awesome job sir!!!

After moving from the Bay Area to San Joaquin County, I needed to find a reliable auto mechanic. I went to MT Motors because of the great reviews on Yelp, and I am very grateful I did. Matthew has done work on my 2000 Volvo S80 a couple of times for specific problems with the car. I have been extremely pleased with the work and with his level of friendly professionalism. His prices are reasonable, he completes the job quickly, and most of all, I believe he is honest. I highly recommend MT Motors in Tracy. read more

Just as others have stated, Matt is honest, trustworthy, and reliable. I am a little new to the area and the trouble with moving to a new area is finding a dependable mechanic, and I believe I've found that with Matt and MT Motors. Matt is a thorough master auto technician who can work on European and Japanese vehicles. I've been taking my vehicles to Matt for the past year. I can do the basic maintenance on my vehicles, but when I need an expert to troubleshoot something beyond my comfort level and experience, Matt is the man! Matt is the owner and works by himself so appointments can sometimes fill up quickly, so it would be good to plan ahead if you need some auto maintenance done. Thanks Matt for keeping my vehicles and my family safe. read more

F A N T A S T I C...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Matt at MT Motors who specializes in foreign vehicles. I have a 2005 325i BMW and so for an older model car, having repairs done especially at the dealership was getting way too expensive. I was also hesitant to take my car to an independent mechanic shop because as a woman I was always taken advantage of and getting ripped off by the mechanics. So I looked on Yelp for an independent mechanic shop and read the reviews for every single shop in my area and low and behold found there was ONLY 1 (MT Motors) that had all positive reviews, NOT A SINGLE NEGATIVE REVIEW. Although still hesitant at that point, I decided to give him a try and am glad I did. I called and explained what was wrong, he told me to bring it in the very next day to look at it. When I did he not only found exactly where the leak in the radiator was but he also took the time to explain how it works and what might have caused it to crack. Showing me where it was cracked/ leaking at and explaining everything assured me that I'm not being cheated in any way, which I really appreciated. Because he was busy finishing other cars he told me to bring my car back a couple days later which I did. Early Monday morning I dropped it off and picked it up within that afternoon. I was very happy with his work, with the time it was done in, and with what I was REASONABLY CHARGED, which was less than what I would have paid at the dealershipMATT IS VERY PROFESSIONAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE , AND HONEST!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED read more

Matt was our Angel from Heaven yesterday. Not only did he fix a broken water pump in our Audi in one day (big job, he has to remove the front of the car to get to the pump), he met us at his shop on a Sunday to enable us to get home on the day we wanted to return home. Long story short, we broke down Thursday on our way to Arnold for the weekend. MT Motors was the only repair shop in Tracy who worked on foreign cars. Boy were we lucky. He had the problem diagnosed and the parts ordered by the time we returned from lunch. He had the car ready for us at the end of day Friday, so we could return home Sunday as planned. Unfortunately, we had not noticed that Enterprise Car Rentals is closed on Sunday, with no lock box, and no help from their 800 # as to what to do. So in desperation we called Matt, who was still at the shop, and he said of course just drop the car off here and have Enterprise pick the car up on Monday. read more
