Definitely far from the best Chinese I've ever had, can't seem to find any in mount airy. The best one I've found is china taste in Urbana.

Very good Chinese-American food and all we get in Mt. Airy. Service is good and The dumplings are excellent.

Lu & Joe's Restaurant!!! It is my pleasure and my privilege to review this wonderful little…read morerestaurant. Lu & Joe's looks like it has been there forever! It is old, unique, not cookie-cutter and certainly not a hint of pretense anywhere around. Is it maybe run down a little, a bit old? Maybe but who cares? Lu & Joe's is one of the most charming roadside diners I have ever been to. This one building has a dining room on one side and a bar on the other. Above the door to the bar hangs a sign that reads "Please no profanity in the dining room. Thank you. Budweiser." LOLOLOL Lu & Joe know that their restaurant is a dive and they lean into it heavily. The naugahyde upholstery is clean, in good shape and colorful - but it's still naugahyde. The floor is probably asbestos tile squares from the 1950's (I say probably because I actually do NOT know if there is asbestos in the floor tile - but it sure looks like there should be). And you know what? That tile floor is spotless like the rest of the dining room. The menus do not have one drop of tomato sauce or grease or dirt on them. Someone clearly is taking great care of this restaurant. The menu is huge! So much to pick from. Oh, and did I mention that either Lu or Joe must be from Thailand???? One or both of them must be because the menu includes a full Thai menu, not one Thai dish, not only Larb Gai, not just Drunken Noodles - A FULL THAI MENU!!! And the dining room has genuine Thai decorations like a painting of a Thai palace with real flashing lights, Siamese touches like archways here and there, a memorial to some Buddhist god or goddess (at least I assume it's Buddhist) - and all of this thrown in with 1950's Americana. Lu & Joe's is truly a slice of the American Dream mixed in with an old roadside dive bar in Mt. Airy! Okay so now let's get to the food. I had tofu basil which was outstanding. The tofu was perfectly fried (not greasy) and there was LOTS of it. The veggies were crisp and fresh. There was a great amount of basil. And the sauce was excellent!!! Easily as good as - and mostly better than - the same dish I have had anywhere in downtown DC and at a fraction of the price!!! Bravo to Lu or Joe or both of them! My spouse had a bleu cheeseburger and it was a game changer. Easily a half pound of the juiciest ground beef I have ever seen! The plentiful bleu cheese and sauteed onions were a great addition. The fries were beautifully cooked as well! I do not have one bad thing to say about this place. We each ate every bite on our plates - huge helpings all around - and, all at once, we realized that we had found a real gem of a restaurant!!! Our server was likewise great. She was friendly and charming and easy to talk to! Not friendly as in "I better be nice to get a good tip" nice - but genuinely nice and friendly. She was fast, she paid the perfect amount of attention to us. I only wish I had gotten her name so I could sing her praises here. But - to Lu & Joe - we ate at your restaurant on Friday, April 10, around 3:30 pm. Whoever was serving then is a great addition to your wonderful restaurant. I certainly will eat at Lu & Joe's again. There is no pretense - only good food in impressive quantities and at great prices - in a clean casual/dive-y dining room where the server treats me well. Is there really anything else you need from a dining experience? I think not. I highly recommend Lu & Joe's to one and all!!!

Very sorry to say that this is not the same Lu & Joe's we've known and loved for more than 20…read moreyears. First, the good... The onion rings are just as good as they've ever been. We've always come here for the Thai food, but years ago--while dining with a large group--we ordered the onion rings and discovered how amazing they were. They seem to be the one thing that hasn't changed. The seafood dumplings are very different now--no longer like shumai--and are quite chewy, but still taste good. The OK... The drunken noodles with pork are also not what they used to be and are now just "OK." The noodles are unusually long and wide, making them difficult to eat, and we missed the sauce. The not good... The Tom Yum Goong with shrimp is much darker in color and has a strong lemongrass flavor, but it's far too salty. The green curry with chicken is also overly salty, and the chicken pieces are dark meat with gristle. When we ordered a Thai salad with chicken, the waiter said he had to check with the kitchen to see if it could be made because the kitchen staff are "new" (as of three months ago). Although he confirmed that order, the dish didn't arrive until after we had finished eating, so we sent it back. At one point, a cup of water spilled onto the bench seat. While the waiter wiped it up, he did not replace or refill the water. Overall, both the food and service are not what they used to be. We will not be returning.

The menu is filled with lots of varied choices, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai dishes. And to top it all off, the cost of this delicious food is VERY reasonable. Today, for lunch, I ordered Mongolian Beef, accompanied by hot and sour soup, which was perfectly seasoned and balanced, a spring roll, and rice. I had enough to take home left after consuming enough to be satisfied. I recommend that you make Modern Asia your "go-to" Asian restaurant.

SU ordered Kung Pao Shrimp, her "go-to" and every Asian restaurant, and compares each one to China Garden's version. Her verdict: Modern Asia's was "OK", and she told me I could eat the leftovers for my lunch. I did. My verdict was the same: OK, but nothing to write home to Mother about. (My comparison, BTW, is to a restaurant we enjoyed in Ithaca New York that made Kung Pao with peppers that would flay your face from the inside if you dared to eat one. Modern Asia's didn't even tickle, making it a let down). I ordered Seafood Combination Chinese Yellow Curry, a new dish for me. It was yummy. Described as one-pepper spicy on the menu, it had less heat than the Kung Pao, but the curry sauce had layers of flavor. It featured shrimp, scallops, and calmari plus a wonderful mix of peppers, onions, and other veg. All were nicely (crisply) cooked, even taking into account the Door Dash delivery time. I really enjoyed it. Next time I may ask for a bit more heat, but as it is, I hoovered up every morsel. Try it - you'll like it!

I told the woman I was injured so it would take me a minute to get to the door. She said it would be 40 minutes but within 15 minutes I received a call that the driver was on his way! I ordered Moo Shi Pork and an egg roll. The food was delicious. I was hurting too much to use the pancakes for a wrap so I just put the pork mixture over the rice. The rice was sticky but light (which I loved) and the pork delicious. I am saving the egg roll and pancakes for a more traditional meal tomorrow. I was just so hungry and happy to be treated so nicely.

I've honestly avoided all Chinese take-out in town bc compared to down county, I knew I'd be disappointed. On this occasion I didn't want to pay for Door Dash and decided to give this spot a try based on some of the dishes they offered. Being a NY transplant, I'm somewhat of a snob when it comes to Chinese take-out. Things like Szechuan being listed repeatedly leads me to feel more confident about ordering (hence why I took the leap of faith.) My boyfriend ordered general chicken, a good neural option to gauge. I ordered him the dinner option which comes with soup and an egg roll. I think it's a good value considering the portion of chicken and rice as well as the two side items. I saw his food and I was impressed even just at looking, the chicken looked great. He really enjoyed all of it. I tried the wonton soup and thought it was excellent, the broth was darker which generally adds to the flavor. I got out of my comfort zone and tried a dish I haven't had before. I tried the beef Singapore rice noodles, spicy. As soon as I saw it, I knew I made a solid choice. There was a Szechuan pepper right on top, immediately knew I was in good hands. These noodles have the heat of Szechuan paired with a curry flavor, and honestly it gave me more of a Thai hear which I was really craving. We shared an order of the Szechuan style string beans. Again, something that immediately upon visual inspection from the peppers and cooking of the string beans would be excellent. Perfectly cooked so that there's a bite, and a lower heat so it can be tolerated among those less favorable of spice. I ordered through the web link on google and had no issue with my food being prepared in time. When I went inside, visual inspection gave that this place was once a spot that people sat to eat. However with the line of about 5 people, the phone ringing off the hook, and the stacks of take out containers I knew that this was more for carry out. I was impressed by the speed of the woman behind the counter and the quality and portions for the price were more than fair. If you're anything like me, and more reserved about trying Chinese take out in a small town, give this spot a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed! We know personally speaking that until the experience I described above falters, that we will remain loyal to little far east!

My wife and I had initially intended to dine at a Mexican restaurant which we'd enjoyed in the past several doors down, however learned that they are closed on Sundays. We visited at approximately 3:30pm on an early December Sunday. There were about a half dozen tables occupied and we were seated at the booth of our choice within a minute. The servers were promptly and attentive. We were provided beverages and a bowl of tasty Wonton Crispies which were addictive! For my meal I selected the Szechuan Tofu with steamed rice and a bowl of Wonton Soup which were delicious but could only eat about half of my plated (thus shall enjoy it tomorrow whilst at work for lunch.) A person who was either the manager or owner came by to check on us and provided boxes (including for what remained of our second-floor serving of Wonton Crispies). We were given the check. Prices are reasonable and I'll gladly pay for quality, particularly for something which will traverse my innards. I recommend this highly if you are in the environs of Westminster, MD and fancy Chinese cuisine. Oh, they have what seems to be a full bar, however I didn't notice a buffet setup.
