We wanted to renovate our kitchen and bathrooms without having to do everything ourselves and MSK came recommended to us from friends and other families we knew and they sure didn't disappoint us! Most importantly, MSK listened to all our conditions, likes and dislikes and never really went over budget at all and even finished the work ahead of time which is unheard of in construction industry! Kat, Kelly, Curt and all of them were detail oriented, patient, and we loved working with them. It showed their experience in this industry and all the vendors they work with were also great. Communication was easy with CoConstruct and it was great to not to have to deal with every small thing. I had been wanting to remodel my kitchen and living areas for the last few years. My first phone call was to Kat, the co-owner at MSK Design Build. She spent close to an hour with me on the phone and provided a rough idea of budget as well as ideas to make the job more cost effective. Following that, I spent several months and considerable time meeting with several other designers/builders in my area. As a result, my decision to work with MSK is based as follows: 1. They spent the most time and effort upfront to provide a realistic estimate and made every effort to include costs that others overlooked (i.e. asbestos abatement). 2. They were very clear about the process and scheduling for the job. The utilize an application that is transparent for both the client and themselves. It was very clear to me that responsibilities were well defined in their company. 3. They took the time to explain the details of the job to me. Prior to signing design contract, they were available to answer any questions or concerns I brought up. 4. Specific personnel would be assigned to my job. It would not vary throughout the duration. 5. The fact that they design AND build (from their own design) was appealing because that would minimize any discrepancies between a separate design company and a separate build company. Linda was my designer. Although she is now retired, she has many years of experience in design. She did an outstanding job in the new layout of my kitchen. In additions, she made other helpful suggestions of things that I was not aware of or had overlooked. To help me select materials, she assisted in every step with flooring, plumbing fixtures, tile, counter tops, etc. She made appointments with their vetted venders and we would go together to make the selections. Linda had a clear understanding of my preferences and guided me towards making sound decisions. I was very pleased with the trades people who performed the work. Joe was the lead carpenter. He was meticulous and took great pride in his work. He did an excellent job of installing the new cabinets, casing work and trim details. Shawn was the painter assigned to my project, and again, his expertise and experience was evident in the finished project. Jorge was the plumber for the job and like the others, his work efforts were appreciated and his abilities added to the job success. These individual's main concern was to do a job I was pleased with and I never felt their extra efforts or time spent were a burden to them. Like their vendors, MSK have several years of working with the subcontractors used for the tile work, electrical, counter tops and sheetrock. They were all professional, timely and courteous. Communication throughout he project was outstanding. Curt was my Project Manager. Any e-mails, text messages, concerns, etc. were addressed and answered promptly. The work areas were always clean at the end of the day and construction debris was removed promptly. The project came in on schedule and on budget. MSK did exactly what they said they would do. In a nutshell, MSK Design and Build is an impressive company!!! Everyone at MSK was so respectful of our home, property, and most importantly our pets. A truly professional all-inclusive design and build company. Leadership, Scott and Kat: Scott personally inspected our home to make sure proposed changes were correct and gave us difficult news when it was not (i.e., foundation issues). Kat, what a special lady. Gave sound professional advice thru out the entire year long experience. She really knows her stuff and the business, and I never felt as if my construction business ignorance was being taken advantage of. Bottom line, trust Kat and Scott!! You won't go wrong. Design, Linda Bryant: What a gracious and thoughtful person. She genuinely took the time to understand what we wanted, and what would work for us. And more importantly, she cautioned us on what would not work and why. By the way, she really has great taste. Trust her when she recommends. Project Management, Curt Roth: Curt was excellent in managing a timely project and keeping us informed at all times. He was very thoughtful in closing on action items, or details that needed correcting. Site Lead, Jason Owens: Man, he is really good at putting it all together. I wish I had a quarter of his skill set. The house looks so professionally done, neighbors and friends are always commenting on the workmanship. I mean all the handles in the kitchen line up perfectly, it looks awesome!! Plumbing, Jorge Martinez and Miro Mihalev: You know, plumbing is something I can never get right. No matter what I do, something leaks. So when the job required plumbing changes, I was very nervous. Thank goodness MSK had the A team work on our house. Jorge and Miro were awesome. Pipes moved, the water heater had to be moved, and laundry equipment was relocated. All seamlessly and professionally done. And nothing leaks. Painting, Shawn Mapes, and Clinton Van Name: You know there is nothing like having your home professionally painted inside and out. The house really pops wherever you stand, and the paint looks rich and luxurious. These guys really know their craft. Lastly, their prep work was first rate, from stucco cracks to window treatments. Framing and Finishing work: Jose Saucedo, Alvaro Alas and Jose Mariscal: These guys made some of the perplexing little things seem easy, and in the end really made the small things perfect. A pocket door we had installed was a perfect example. The attention to detail by these gentlemen, and MSK mgmt., makes that door work perfectly. One additional note that I found refreshing was the relationship MSK has with their subcontractors. MSK does a fair amount of work with their in-house staff, but there is work that was subcontracted. First of all, MSK worked closely with all their subcontractors, which met that it did not fall on us to anyway manage. I have heard horror stories about subcontractors being slow, late, or poor workmanship. Not one of the subcontractors exhibited and of that. They were on time, efficient, and very respectful of our home and property. Sean Pagett-Tile: It all pops, looks great. Custom Stone: An incredible center island that is the center piece of our Kitchen. Everyone who visits always comments on how beautiful and unique it is Johnson Bros flooring: It is far and above the most visible new addition to the house. It is installed everywhere. Seamless, tight joints thru out. More importantly when a few squeaks popped up, they came back right away and made the needed adjustments. Northern Lights-Electrical: No disrespect to all the other subcontractors, but I probably saved the best for last. Rich and his team were exceptional. Literally a team of 6-8 people descended on our home and rewired it. I am talking new circuit breaker box, and new wiring thru out the house. They even rewired my TV outlets and cable routing. I was so taken with their workmanship and professional manner in which they worked, I had them electrically wire up my garage, including EV compatible. You know how awesome it is to have two sets of plugs on every wall, LED lights, and EV capability in your garage!! Not that I am selling my house, but I think it is a big selling point. BTW: Huge shout out to Northern Lights lead Mario. He was very thorough and kept us informed on everything. It is such a luxury to have a circuit Breaker box where breakers are labeled in such a way that actually makes sense. Summary: You can't go wrong with MSK. Are they cheapest? No. Are they the most expensive? No. Are they the most professional, respectful, timely, highest quality contractor? I think so. Can't wait for phase B. read more

I'm embarrassed by how late this review is... We hired MSK for a substantial remodel - full kitchen, complete master bath overhaul, 3 fireplaces refinished, 2 walls removed, our sunken living room raised, all windows and 2 exterior doors replaced, and fresh paint everywhere. They were incredible! Kat is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and the entire MSK team is amazing! You can tell they all genuinely love and take pride in the work they do. Suzy was our designer and she was wonderful! She is very talented and always had loads of patience with me while made decisions and then changed them 10 times ;-). Joe was also amazing. I'm pretty sure he can make anything. We decided we wanted to change the dimensions of our island AFTER it arrived at our house, and he somehow worked his magic and reconfigured it to perfection! (Not recommending you do this - see my indecisiveness, above, lol!) To top it all off, after all the work was done, THEY brought ME a gift! I feel like it should have been the other way around, but they brought a beautiful basket of the most thoughtful accessories for our new spaces, plus even a little something for our kids and dogs. After approaching several contractors and a couple of design/build firms about a home remodel project we'd been considering, we opted to work with Kat, Scott and the team at MSK Design Build. We made this decision because MSK immediately presented as the most organized and communicative outfit that we spoke with. After an approximately six month project, we're very pleased that we picked MSK as their attention, patience and communication never waivered despite the occasional hiccup. We engaged MSK to help us increase the footprint of our home by approximately 200 sq ft, convert an old en suite bathroom into a 'Jack and Jill' shared bathroom for our kids and completely replace the primary bathroom and closet. Even though we had a general idea of what we wanted to accomplish with the project, we were uncertain how the space should be laid out or how it would ultimately function. Thankfully, MSK's designer Suzy was very helpful and easy to work with as we developed and refined plans for the project. Because we wanted to consider a variety of possibilities, this process went through many phases but no one at MSK rushed us or requested additional funds for the time involved. After we'd landed on a design that we were comfortable with, Scott and his team took over to actually complete the work. Our initial meeting with the team of professionals that MSK has on staff to actually build stuff was well organized and very professional. While some of the more technical aspects of the jobsite weren't immediately a priority for us, it was super helpful and comforting to have MSK directly address matters as mundane as where a porta potty would be located to the dynamics of subbing some of the work out to outside craftsmen. On a couple of occasions, our project got delayed by some severe weather and COVID but MSK always kept us informed about the situations and pushed to get back to work as soon as possible. During one particularly intense winter storm, some tarps were blown loose from the exterior of the work site and we had to call our Project Manager, Curt, on a Saturday morning to ask for help. Curt didn't hesitate to get the Lead Carpenter, Jason, and his associate extraordinaire, Jose, over to our place. Within an hour everything was buttoned up tight despite the howling wind and sideways rain. Eventually we did have an issue with some of the tilework performed by MSK's sub and we had to pump the brakes on the project to get the issue resolved. It was a stressful time for us because we knew it wasn't gonna be an easy fix on a technical level. But Kat, Scott and Suzy were quick to schedule an onsite meeting with us to get to the bottom of the matter. After hearing concerns and considering potential remedies Kat and Scott very matter of factly told us, 'If you're not happy, it's unacceptable and we're gonna make it right.' And that is exactly what they did. We agreed on a plan to address and resolve the tile problems and MSK got it done with out protest or drama. I also want to make clear that outside of the tile sub issues, the work that MSK did was of a very high quality and now (approximately 6 months after the completion of our project) we're using completely hassle-free spaces that we love. The design that Suzy created for us flows well and makes excellent use of the space we had to work with. We're so appreciative of the care and attention MSK paid to us throughout our project and would certainly encourage anyone considering a home remodel project to contact Kat. They may not provide the lowest price at the onset of a project but they stuck to our budget and the professionalism was well worth every penny we spent. We hired MSK Design Build to remodel our kitchen. My husband and I decided to go with a design build firm after hearing horror stories from others about trying to coordinate with all different contractors. We interviewed three different design build firms and decided to go with MSK. The reason we chose them initially was their candor, responsiveness, and professionalism. The owner, Scott came to our home with our designer Natalia and they did a thorough job measuring and discussing plans with us. After we signed the contract with them Natalia began the design process. She was absolutely fantastic, guiding us through the process and keeping us on time and on budget. Having never remodeled before, we really appreciated her knowledge and responsiveness, not to mention her design aesthetic. MSK also has an app that the entire team uses that shows all of your selections and communications. This was so helpful in staying organized. I cannot say enough about the team that worked on our home. They were always on time, always very clean and I felt very safe having them in my home with my daughters around. If I had an issue with anything it was always resolved within 24 hours, but very often by the end of the day. Our kitchen turned out beautifully and they were an absolute pleasure to work with. A final example of their "above and beyond" service was when we were having the refrigerator delivered. We ordered our refrigerator from Home Depot and when the delivery men came they said it would not fit and they wouldn't deliver it. I was so upset. I talked to MSK and they had someone come out and when they came back to deliver it, he just handled the delivery. I don't know what we would have done without him. I would highly recommend MSK Design Build!!! We had been contemplating a kitchen remodel for years and finally went through with it. We had a very distinct, modern look we were trying to achieve and felt MSK was the team that would be able to do it for us. The beauty of MSK is that they're a design-build firm and take responsibility for everything from design to execution. They kept us up to speed on anything that varied from the detailed plan they had set forth from the beginning. They use a platform called Co-Construct that keeps everyone up to date on what's happening and allows for extremely easy communication between client and builder. I found MSK Design Build through Yelp, when I noticed all the rave reviews they received. We needed our kitchen remodeled, along with flooring and paint for all the common areas of our home. After initially calling and leaving a message with MSK, I got a call back from Kat (one of the owners) within a couple of hours. Kat was a pleasure to talk to. She answered all my questions and took the time to explain all that MSK does and how they work. Soon after, we met with Natalia, our designer, and the process began. This was our first time doing a remodel, so we were a little nervous, but we didn't need to be. Everything went smoothly for the most part. When there was a hiccup, it was corrected almost immediately. Natalia was awesome!! She was patient and supportive, even during the times when I was incredibly indecisive (which was probably a lot). Natalia always guided me in the right direction with our design, and even encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, which resulted in a gorgeous kitchen that was beyond our expectations. My husband was so proud of our new kitchen, that he showed pictures of it to all his coworkers, and received tons of compliments. We had a great experience with MSK from start to finish. The timing of the start of the project for us was perfect. It was at the beginning of Covid and by the time construction was allowed to return, they were ready to go with strict Covid protection policies in place. I worked with Karen on design. She quickly figured out my taste and preferences better than me. She was detailed and meticulous which was very much appreciated. Karen was also careful to keep the budget in mind, often saving money with changes. In the end, we couldn't be happier with the design. We were just as happy with the construction crew. Chuck was our site foreman. He was professional and friendly. I was completely comfortable with him and his crew. Chuck did our hardwood floors completely on his own and they look absolutely fabulous. We had one hicup with the drywallers who were subs. They did a terrible job. MSK was all over it and fixed it immediately. We were happy with all the other subs. Never had issues with no shows or miscommunication. Either that or MSK just dealt with it w/o worrying us. Bridget was our project manager. She did a great job of keeping everything on track and on time. We had a few unexpected things come up but she did a fantastic job coming up with a work around with very little time delay. She was always honest about construction delays. I met with Linda for a initial evaluation to determine price and scope of my kitchen remodel. She and the other staff were quite patient with my infant daughter and we were able to meet and go through photos, ideas. I got the feedback my budget was too low, and I didn't feel it was a bid to get more cash, I thought it was an honest assesment given what I wanted and the work that needed to be done. Unfortunately after looking at the project more, and talking to the owner, it seemed even that increased budget was too low, so the project is on hold for now. We used MSK to remodel our kitchen and fireplaces in the spring of 2016. We could not have been happier with the work that MSK did for us! The work was beautifully designed and completed. Kelly and Natalia worked with us to create a home design that would work with our family. The end product is gorgeous and works seamlessly with the existing part of our home. Here are some of the things that I appreciate about MSK... They were on time and they were on budget. There were NO surprises. Before the project started, they gave us a binder with pictures and bios of all the sub-contractors who would be in our home. They gave us letters to put in our neighbors' mailboxes explaining the additional cars and mess on the street. Joe, who was our day-to-day carpenter and supervisor, was awesome. He made sure everything was done to a very high level of detail often went the extra mile to make things perfect. In addition, there was never any mess at the end of the day. They put up plastic walls to prevent dust from spreading to the rest of the home. They were constantly there for us when we had questions or issues. I also really appreciate their online app that kept us up to date about what was going to happen and when it would happen. And it always did. In a 14 week remodel they were there everyday. Needed to do a bit more work on the quote, do some research, and said he'd call in a few days. Never got a call back. I called his number, the office number and spoke with the woman who picks up the phones. She assured me she passed on my messages. We had our 1980's kitchen/family room completely renovated by MSK. They worked with my wife and I to help guide us through all of the initial design considerations that had to be made. There are so many decisions and details that come into play with a renovation like this. It was a breath of fresh air to have an MSK design consultant work with us to help identify and prioritize the decisions and details so that the project stayed on track. Whenever we got stuck, she was always there with ideas and would meet us at the various stores to sort through all of the choices, multiple times if necessary, while maintaining an astute sense of humor throughout. The technical depth, expertise and professionalism of the individuals that handled the lions share of the work was impressive (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, drywall, flooring, doors, cabinets, counter tops, finish work, painting, appliance installations and more). When necessary they worked closely with third party product providers and installers. Very few days went by without progress being made. Changes, there were very few, were handled openly and small ones were done by MSK without questions or issues. Great project management was key to getting through this complex renovation in 8-9 weeks. MSK has it! We found MSK to be very knowledgeable, focused, good listeners, budget conscious, willing to do the right thing and easy to work with. We were very pleased with our experience with MSK. Our project included remodeling the main level of our tri-level home which included an entry way, kitchen, living room and dining room. One challenge we faced initially was our vague vision about the extent of the remodel. We had some general concepts in mind and became very frustrated when we began meeting with other contractors who were unable to address the basic design issues and help us decide what to do. Our project was in limbo until we found MSK. We met with Scott and Kat (owners) and our designer Natalia several times in their offices and in our home to discuss our family's goals and expectations. We were very impressed with their ability to learn about our preferences and present suitable design alternatives. We liked being able to review several design layouts and cost breakdowns before committing to them. We appreciated their professional expertise and guidance since we had never done a remodel of this magnitude before. The program Co-Construct is a very handy tool to keep track of all the important specs, schedule, financials and any questions that arise. Questions we posted were always responded to quickly. Now that the project is completed, it serves as a convenient place to look back on the history of the project, details about the plan, specifics about tile, lighting, etc. all in one place. It has been very convenient to post some follow-up questions months after the project was completed and still receive the same VIP treatment that we did while the project was underway! Our designer Natalia was extremely helpful and meticulous when it came to all aspects of the project. She kept us on task, so we didn't lose momentum. Having her do some research and shopping for us streamlined the process immensely. After spending time with us, she knew what would work in our design and what we would like. She accompanied us on various shopping trips to look at patio doors, floor tile, backsplash tiles, drawer pulls and knobs, hardware, etc. Her input and attention to detail was invaluable. Natalia also went above and beyond what we expected. One example is her input when we were selecting paint colors for the walls. It was harder than we thought to choose paints that would complement not only the cabinets, but the countertops, backsplash and tile floor. We had proudly made our selections and had texted them to Natalia so she could notify the painter who was coming the next day. She texted a very diplomatic comment regarding our choices and offered to come by the next morning at 7 a.m. so we could go through paint chips together. She came, we chose alternate colors, drove to the paint store to get samples, painted splotches on the walls and chose colors that were far superior to what we had originally chosen. We were so glad she did that for us and we love the kitchen and the colors! Having heard lots of horror stories about remodels, we were prepared to deal with messes, delays, and unexpected change orders to the project. We were pleasantly surprised and happy that the MSK crew and subs kept the premises clean every day. They erected temporary walls to keep the dust contained and give us some measure of privacy in the rest of the house. Although we had some inevitable mis-steps along the way, MSK was quick to accept full responsibility and took measures to resolve any issues immediately. They continuously followed up with us to make sure we were happy with how the project was progressing. Our project was completed on time, or even a little bit early! After completion of the project, they have kept in touch to make sure we don't have any questions or issues. We needed all new everything - counters, cabinets, floor, hardware, appliances, paint - and we didn't want to try to coordinate all the contractors, and be at the mercy of their 'other' jobs and frustrating delays. Main Street Kitchens does it all, and in exquisite detail, and at a stratospheric level of professionalism. They can design every aspect of the kitchen, giving you lots and lots of time and attention to get it just how you want it. They invested hours and hours in us before the job even started, showing us the designs, changing them where we wanted, and advising us on the various choices. They're so experienced they guide you away from potentially bad decisions; help you prevent those "unintended consequences" that are the bane of inexperienced remodelers like us. They assign and supervise all the workers, so you only have to interact with one entity. They are completely and continually in contact by phone and email - all messages promptly returned. Their workers were clean and quiet and polite and spoke English. They came on time and left the job tidy each day. They whole job came in just under the time frame of 6 weeks, with the exception of one thing we wanted changed, which they did without complaint and without charging us. I have seldom if ever been so completely satisfied with a company (I am picky) and I want to tell the world about them. If Yelp had 6 stars I would give them all 6! Scott and his team took a lot of time with us to insure that we got the end result we wanted. They were fairly quick in getting the work done. We did run into a snag or two, what job doesn't?. The issues were addressed in a timely manner and to our satisfaction. We did pick out a lot of components ourselves... and were given some recommendations on companies to use on others. Fantastic company! Scott is very helpful and knowledgeable and so is his entire staff. My past remodeling experiences were rather stressful.
