Overview: Chill park that's perfect for a small picnic and good vibes. We recently spent a warm spring day at Msgr McGolrick Park and it was a great time. It was a friend's birthday celebration picnic and it looks like everyone loves having picnics there. Groups were medium size for the most part (4-6 people). It's not a huge park but there's a lot of green space and benches along the pathway. There's a restroom available so that's convenient. For my fellow dog lovers, there's a dog run there to enjoy with your furry friend. read more

This is a lovely little park in Brooklyn. My son took us for a walk yesterday and we got to see all the dogs playing. We also enjoyed being outside and looking at all the beautiful surroundings! Met up with friends here a couple times. A very convenient public space if you're in the neighborhood, especially if for families with little kids, since the playground is a spacious area for kids to play and run around. Also good space to bring pets for a walk, and enough grassy area for people to bring blankets for a picnic on warmer days. Overall it's pretty clean. Aside from the playground area which are newer, facilities could be in better condition, for example the women's bathroom consisted of one stall with a door that didn't close properly, and some of the park benches had seen better days--the wood was decayed/broken in some places. Also it may be due to extra outdoor use due to covid, but some of the grassy areas aren't quite so grassy anymore; they may need to re-sod sections to reintroduce grass to better maintain the lawns. read more

In the Greenpoint/Williamsburg area, McCarren Park gets all the shine, but I think McGolrick Park is the better between the two. I prefer more of a neighborhood park. Plus, this park is better maintained than McCarren. The standout feature at McGolrick is the pavilion. It's a crescent shaped structure of brick and limestone. Check out the masonry work. It's on the National Register and is a New York City landmark. Then there's the War Memorial, and then the Monitor and Merrimac Monument. The park has all you need - a playground for the kiddies, a dog park, a farmers market, walking/running paths inside the park, and passive green areas. Also, the park is filled with old, beautiful trees and lined with benches for people to sit and enjoy the park. read more

a nice family friendly park in greenpoint that has plenty of benches to sit and relax while the brats play in the updated playground area and where there is a dog park section for the mutts to roam around it . well maintained by the parks dept and i notice many trash bins all over so there is no excuse to be lazy and litter. there is also a path for running , jogging and for walking which i prefer . folks who live in the neighborhood are lucky to have a place to hang out and enjoy mother nature . read more

Bathroom is filthy, door wide open. There are dead leaves all over the walkways, people smoking in the park. The grass needs a complete overhaul and re-seeded. The wrought iron fence is terrible. It's all rusty and chipping paint, not good for little children if they grab on to this rusty fence. Otherwise great place to relax but they need to FIX all of these problems. read more

This is a smaller park, but well-maintained and visited. We bring our dogs here to the dog run and all the owners and their dogs are super sweet. They have a nice playground, farmers market on Sundays, and I have heard that the playground is great for kids! They also have bathrooms which is a relief lol. It's a super cute park that feels very tailored to the neighborhood. While we live closer to McCarren, we actually enjoy our weekend walks to McGolrick because we enjoy the community that revolves around seeing the same dogs and their owners every weekend. McGorlick Dog Park is located at the south end of the charming park. Small and large dogs share the space equally and both have abundant room to run and stretch their furry legs. Every first Saturday of the month, a smushed-face dog meetup for pugs, Boston terriers, French bulldogs, and bulldogs fills the part with sniffles and snorts for about an hour between 10-11am. Most other days you'll find no less than 10 pooches and their owners laughing getting to know one another. Greenpoint, in general, is charming, but the dog park creates a special community within the community. read more

Smaller than McCarren and with less Hipsters and a more neighborly feel. I like sitting in this park on days when I work at my bar in Greenpoint. Sitting on the benches under those giant trees puts me in the right state of mind. After you get your head straight visit this great little, yet hardly open, coffee shop, Cup O Joe and/or a fave dive bar of mine, The Palace, (characters galore AND $1.50 Bud/ Bud Lts) both lining the parameters of the park. McGolrick is my local park, and with all the fierce neighborhood chauvinism of the true Brooklynite, I'll pit it against McCarren any day. It's a relatively small space centering around miniature early-20thC pavilion (containing bathrooms) and ringed with walking paths and nicely kept lawns and flowers. There's a little dog run and benches throughout. McGolrick is something of a center of hood activity. Mornings, it's filled with young (Polish) mothers and their children; afternoons, it's (Polish) teens' terrifory; and a group of benevolent (Polish) hobos hobnobs after dark. There are regular neighborhood cleanup days and the space is unusually clean, almost never befouled with trash or bottles. In good weather, it's a truly pleasant place to sit and read and, like any park worth its salt, serves the function of reminding us city mice that nature, seasons and weather exist as more than a wardrobe barometer! read more

Even with the construction going on this park is a nice place to stroll thru with you morning coffee. With a nice dog park and a lot of grass and dirt with some benches it's a good location for a picnic of morning coffee stop. read more

McGolrick Park doesn't exactly roll off of your tongue, but at least it's easy on the eyes. I will use any excuse to take a walk through this gem. if I'm leaving the apartment and headed in any direction at all, the best route is, obviously, straight through McGolrick. I love sitting on a bench and watching people pass by. And the squirrels! Oh my god they are hilarious! McGolrick Park is very well-kept and nicely maintained. I wish I hadn't read the reviews of this park that mentioned the drunk guys in various states of dress. I did notice a few older gents speaking in another language (Polish, I assume) who appeared rather disheveled. I'm not sure I would have even noticed them, but "drunks. drunks. drunks. masturbating drunks" is pretty much all I was thinking when I entered the park. These guys were very quiet and didn't bother me, besides supporting my believe that it is a popular park for day drinking. I found the shady pathways and fenced grassy areas very quiet and scenic. I can't wait to take a stroll through the paved lanes in the fall. The huge trees will blanket the entire park in puffy leaf piles. I found a bench facing a path and worked in my sketchpad for a while. The park was mostly empty other than mothers and nannies pushing toddlers in strollers and the occasional dog walker (there is a dog run/park). I witnessed a little boy playing with a new puppy while his grandparents watched. Talk about cute! read more

This is a really gorgeous park in Greenpoint Brooklyn. It is almost otherworldy. The trees look a thousand years old, and there are so many families. You'll also see groups of old folks sitting together gabbing and so forth. Very very chill vibe here. What's more there's very little traffic around the park either. Greenpoint is sort of that way. Any through traffic would be over on McGuinness Blvd to the west or the BQE to the south. So the neighborhoods are very quiet and local. read more

Very nice the top of it is the trees very nice in a day because of the green and the blue in the night it's more like black and purple but very nice always has a nice place for dogs to play with a playground for kids. Huge, beautiful old trees rule in this expansive park that seems to draw in everyone from the neighborhood--lots of dogs, screaming kids, chirping birds and slurping drunks galore. Why, I even saw a set of dentures sitting all by itself on one of the many benches once. I can only imagine how that happened: Drunk: "Hey, Teeth, so I'm going to head over to Happy Hour but you're welcome to hang out on this bench." Dentures: [No response] Drunk: "Okay, well, I'll back and come pick you up in a couple of hours." McGolrick is in my backyard, and how lucky I am for it. It's got to be the most charming small park in Brooklyn, and it's only been getting better in the past few years (new gardens are so nice). I've spent many hours on the benches (I have my own favorites - there's one with a nice sunset view of the Chrysler bldg), and I walk through most nights even though it's a few extra blocks. Feels like a NYC kids book. Only negative I'll throw out there is the drunks. Kind of a downer to see people passing around a bottle of vodka at any hour of the day. A charming little park toward the less trafficked side of Greenpoint. It's not hidden in any regard and utilized by people from all walks of life that life and work nearby. There are a few folks pushing shopping carts through the park but they are never hostile and typically side toward cordial. There are also a larger number of people who use the park as a place to sit and consume alcohol--these partons are more likely to become hostile but generally keep to themselves. The park features an older type of playground with swings, a few jungle gyms some weird water features and plenty of space to run around. There are also large grassy spaces to have a picnic, toss a baseball or throw a frisbee. The best part about the park are the gigantic ancient trees that provide shade throughout the walkways. Definitely recommend the park as a place for a walk, to play your kids or to sit with a book and coffee - enjoy! read more

This place is pretty cool. Just like when Pedro said "Pretty good-looking." I took a stroll through this park round 11:00pm the other night and it was rather majestic. It felt tall. Spread out. It's own little world in Greenpoint that is very neighborhoodie. Lined with benches and small ledges to sit I can only imagine the use this park sees. I also like this park because upon discovery I had no idea how to properly pronounce it. So mysterious. There were no squirrels in site, although Vic P.'s testament will make me go back again. I have no idea why this is classified as being in East Williamsburg. This is Greenpoint. If you want to play frisbee or watch the passers-by, go to McCarren. If you want to take a nice slow stroll through a park with character, you will like McGorlick Park. Located in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, I decided to enjoy lunch while sitting on one of the benches in the park. I guess it was the cool fall weather with the sun shining through the trees that helped but it really is a nice park. A big dog run on one of the corners, plenty of benches, and I swear the squirrels here are some of the friendliest I've come across. As I exited the park, whether you're religious or not, it's hard not to be impressed by the beautiful architecture of St. Stanislaus Church in the backround. read more

Love this park! I have many fond memories of being here with my lady back dating back to the 90s usually a clean atmosphere and not too many dogs out without a leash. Sometimes you get the occasional kid in the summer with the dirt bike riding through blowing up the whole neighborhood with the engine. Love my neighborhood park! Great for a lazy Sunday stroll or for picnics and gatherings. The loop around the park is a half mile so this is great for running albeit there are some areas that have deteriorating sidewalk and need to be leveled. There's a great dog park and playground and the weekend hosts a farmers market that while not as big as the one found at McCarren, satisfies my needs for fresh produce, bread, and pickles. read more

One of my favorite parks, located in one of my favorite little forgotten corners of Greenpoint. McGolrick, unlike McCarren, has a sleepy European feel with it's huge mature trees, stately memorial pavilion and Polish families of all ages with a smattering of local hipsters. Surrounded by townhouses, there is nary a glass condo tower in sight. Especially beautiful in the fall. Bonus points for being the location for Flight of the Conchords' "Foux de Fafa!" read more
