Great little dinner and a super nice wait staff team. The price can not be beat for the amount of food.

This stop, intended for a quick breakfast on our way to Columbus, was quite a letdown…read more * Service Speed: Our experience was anything but quick; it took over 30 minutes to receive a simple egg sandwich and a side of mush. * The Food: The egg sandwich was great, made with genuinely fresh bread. However, the side of mush was awful. Despite being advertised as freshly made, it arrived deep-fried and completely tasteless. * Atmosphere: The restaurant itself looks a little run down, featuring minimal patrons and, strangely, a half-price gift shop. Overall, the wait was excessive, and the highly-touted mush was a major disappointment.

VERY SMALL BUFFET AND NONE OF THE FOOD WAS MEMORABLE. 3 tables had customers seated @ noon on a Wednesday. Roast beef was completely shredded (no pieces) Very small salad bar with NO SWEET & sour dressing. Gave us one tiny container of apple butter & one tiny container of peanut butter spread for four large pieces of bread. THE GOOD PART: noodle soup was full of noodles, fresh warm, homemade bread was brought to the table. They had pieces of several kinds of fruit pie & three kinds of cookies to choose from for dessert.

They run out of pies throughout the day because they're not serving old pie here, but they're good and lots to choose from. Service = Very friendly. Sometimes a guy has questions, like "Why is there a log of cheese with my soup?" (even though it's awesome). But they answer in a friendly way. Restaurant = This place is busy, you will likely wait. Lots of seats, because apparently I'm not the only one that plans on going back after visiting. Clean and quick.

They close at 3pm, took our names at 2pm, and said it would be a 45 minute wait (which it was) but we didn't feel rushed once we were seated even though it was close to closing time. Our server was extremely friendly and great! Foodwise, we ordered the veggie quiche with a side of the house tomato basil soup and the bistro burger (bacon added) with a side of their soup of the day, cheesy potato. They have a variety of specialty coffee drinks but I chose to order the lightly sweetened peach tea for something different. My husband really enjoyed his burger and said it was well seasoned. He enjoyed the potato soup also and only wished they had fries to enjoy with the burger. My tomato basil soup was tasty! The quiche needed seasoning...I had to add salt and pepper and hot sauce and it could have done without all the extra cheese sprinkled on top. It came with a slice of blueberry bread though which was nice! The peach tea was refreshing as a change but I'd go with coffee next time. All in all we'd eat there again for sure and would try one of their delectable-looking pastries next time too. Thank you for a nice lunch, Rebecca's Bistro!

Fred's Diner is a sparkling diamond of a place that so many locals I mentioned it to were still…read moreunaware of. That's mostly due to location. It's less than a 10 minute drive from downtown Akron but it's off the beaten path. All locals (except me) in here. When I went (10AM Friday) the place was almost full, and I was dining alone, so I sat at the counter, happily next to the kitchen. To look at the kitchen was like looking inside a bee hive, bustling with activity but barely a sound. I could just make out what was being calmly stated "2 Silver Dollar, Salmon, Country Fried, 2 Over Easy..." It was fun to watch, but what was important was the output. It took just over 6 minutes from the time I order until it was sitting in front of me, and everything was perfect! The waitresses were so efficient. I saw my order hit the window and in about 12 seconds it was delivered. They were so customer focused, they were (jokingly) fighting over refilling my tea. When I was done and paid for I waited outside for Uber to pick me up (3 min). I looked back on what I'd just experienced, and snapped a picture of the two parking lots of cars for Fred's Diner. I counted and there were 32 cars at Fred's. OK maybe 10 were staff so 22 cars for customers, let's say on average there were 2 customers per car (remember I walked here so no car for me). By my calculation, Fred's was feeding 44 people every 30 minutes or so. No wonder they're only open 4 days a week and only for breakfast - lunch. I calculate they might serve 3200 meals in those 4 days, and then take 3 days off to get ready for the next week. I love this place. Wish I lived here so I could come more often.

I met a friend for breakfast this morning, and everything from start to finish was spot on. I ordered the Sweet Jalapeño Sandwich: an English muffin piled with jam, bacon, an egg cooked over medium, and cheddar, served with home fries. It was the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and just a little kick. My friend stuck with her usual: the Banana & Bourbon Caramel Bread Pudding French Toast, topped with fresh bananas and their homemade bourbon caramel sauce, plus a side of pork belly. It looked incredible and, according to her, tasted just as good as it always does. We arrived just a few minutes after they opened at 8:00 and were seated right away. The service was friendly, attentive, and very prompt without feeling rushed. Scratch has such a great casual, local diner feel, but with a menu that's anything but ordinary. The portions are generous, the flavors are unique, and the quality is consistently excellent. Definitely a go-to spot for breakfast or brunch...you really can't go wrong here.

White walls, glass windows in front, a few things hung on the walls. Not fancy, but pleasant. Very clean. The food is phenomenal. I've been dreaming about their biscuits and gravy since my last visit. Still perfect. The home fry-style potatoes are what a lot of places try to serve but fail at miserably. They are crispy AND fluffy! Yum! My scrambled eggs were not at all greasy or oily. My iced tea was delicious and refreshing. My lovely wife had the chorizo hash, which I tried. Oh, my. So good. And the chipotle crema on top was just perfect. They have excellent diner coffee here as well. My service experience was immaculate the first time and just OK today. He was fine initially, but I feel like he kind of forgot about us after he checked on our food. We were stuck way in the back. Maybe he was on a break, which is fine. I spent time as a waiter in two different restaurants, so I'm sympathetic, but I did not get a drink refill, and I wanted one pretty badly. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots, and it feels like a hidden gem.

From the looks of the space, they're a bar by night and lunch spot by day. Really cool old space with original hardwood floors, high cathedral ceilings and rustic charm. Ambiance was on point. Their menu is fairly unique. A number of custom house options that take traditional sandwiches and add stuff you wouldn't necessarily expect. I ended up getting one of their seasonal specials that is a play on a grilled cheese sandwich. It came on toasted, marbled, rye, with feta cheese, fresh, sliced jalapeños, fresh, sliced pineapple, and Swiss cheese. I always love, trying things that combine, savory, sweet, and spicy. So I was hoping for the best with this one, and it delivered. The sandwich came with hot waffle, fries, and a side of ketchup. Shout out to the two people working, as they were completely overwhelmed, but getting food out to tables regardless. I was expecting a pretty long wait time based on the orders ahead of me, but my food came out in under 10 minutes. I was impressed all things considered. My only small complaint is the pricing is just a little bit high for what you get. Especially a grilled cheese. It's just bread, pineapple, jalapeño, and cheese. I don't feel like that should cost $13. I wish the waffle fries came with it for that price. But they were an additional three dollars, as well as three dollars for a fountain drink. After taxes and tip, it was a little over $23. That's a pretty steep price to pay for what was supposed to be a simple lunch. I would definitely come here again, but not on the regular simply based on the high prices.
