I drove from well out of town to buy a ferret here because of all the great reviews this place gets. I thought a small shop would treat their animals better than a big box pet store. When I got there, after having called ahead, I found the ferrets were kept at the back of the store, in a glass aquarium well removed from any social contact with visitors. I was told that I could not so much as hold a ferret and they were being kept under "lock and key" for their own safety. The ferrets were for buyers only. But how can I commit to an animal that I've had no chance to interact with? I left sorely disappointed. read more

Horrible customer service. Selling caged fish that should be in fresh water. Not offering constructive assistance to those looking for some help with fish care. read more

Literally the nicest pet store ever (second being Aquarium West!). I came here looking for a 5.5 gallon aquarium for my Betta and the staff were more than helpful, kind, thoughtful and just plain awesome. They even gave me a cardboard box to put my aquarium in, upon my request, and put some bags and stuff to make sure it doesn't break :') sadly, I forgot the guys name who helped me, but everyone there is super nice tbh. If you need any more proof that this is an awesome pet store, their Betta tanks are freaking heated, filtered, with gravel and everything. A staff that cares for their Bettas, a fish species that's usually kept in sad, small jars at stores, well, they're definitely a pet store I'll be returning to. :) read more

I've got nothing bad to say about the store itself. It's very well stocked and the employees are very friendly. My only real issue is with the owner/manager himself who was rather "chilly" towards me from the very first time I went in. He's quite friendly and gregarious with all the other customers until it's *my* turn at the cashier. Once I'm next up to pay for my purchases, his smile disappears and he stares at me with thinly-veiled hostility. He takes my money and then mumbles "thank you", while avoiding any further eye contact. I don't know why he's like that since, as far as I know, I've never done anything "wrong." Maybe he hates people of color or something. At any rate, there are plenty of other pet stores in Vancouver where I'm treated with respect so I don't go to this place anymore. read more

We were very satisfied of taking care and boarding our lovebird. Customer service was excellent. They helped us to carry cage to our car as well. read more

Decent selection, reasonable prices and knowledgeable staff who seem to really care about animals. My only gripe is every time I go in there they are out of my rabbit's bedding in the size I always buy (Most likely due to it's popularity) but the last time I was in there the sales lady who helped me suggested I buy the obscenely huge bag, which in the end did save me money. I would recommend this place to anyone who has pets and I usually go out of my way to come here rather than any other pet store. read more

Came here to buy a gerbil, after wanting one for a couple of years. I was also buying a cage for the gerbil, which said on the box that is was a gerbil cage, I've had lots of gerbils before and it was a way bigger cage than if ever bought before, they wouldn't sell me the gerbil because the cage was too small. They told me that one gerbil needs a twenty gallon tank. Everything I've read said ten gallons is enough for a gerbil. No attempt to show me what cages would be appropriate. Very disappointing. Wouldn't reccomend. The staff were vey unhelpful and condescending of me,. read more

i went to this store when my local store was sold out of a medication i needed for one of my fish ... the store was huge, clean, organized, lots of unique items i have not seen any where else ... i mean where else can you find a selection of clothes for ferrets, made me want to buy a ferret just seeing how cute they looked :O) the prices were great (the medication i bought was $16.99 at my local fish store and $10.99 at mr. pets), the fish tanks looked well maintained and they carry aquaflora plants !!! very awesome plants for an excellent price ... the three staff members i dealt with were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable ... i will definitely be shopping there again read more

The owner of the store is very rude..The staff are polite. I believe the owner might of forgotten she runs a pet shop, when I walked in with my Rat Terrier dog Yoko the owner notified me that Yoko peed on the floor in a sounded way as though she peed on the kitchen counter at the Fairmont hotel. It was right by the cleaning station so I apologetically cleaned it up . If I had not of needed Yokos food I would of walked out right away after what happened next . Yoko was off leash and I was waiting patiently for the owner, the blond and tattooed woman at the till, to finish up her conversation with another customer. she had stop speaking to alert me in a rude manner that Yoko must be on a leash and even as I complied she continued to berate me in front of the other customer even while I was leashing her up and got the point . She then proceeded to announce in a smug way she was the owner of the store. As I handed her cash to pay for food she snapped that they only take cards at this time like I was stupid. Very rude very unprofessional read more

Worst customer service I have come across. If you ever have returns and a complaint of the product you get the run around. I had purchased two smoked bones on Thursday the aug 8th. My dog got sick for two days on the smoked bones in that you get in the fridge and I call friday and the staff on the phone says he went to check the bones and they looked alright and if my dogs had bones before. Said he can't do anything cause I would have to wait til sunday My dog has had smoked bones numerous times and this is the first time my dog has ever been sick of non stop diarreah. He askes me how soon did I give him the bone an I had said inside the store. All I wanted was even a store credit that Friday even cause of needing to buy stain odor removal for his diarreah everywhere. On a side note I even had to go to another store to purchase stuff so my dog wouldn't be sick anymore. I called again today aug 11th 10:30am was asked to put on hold for the manager, I waited 10mins and no answer so hung up thinking maybe they forgot me, and kept all morning trying to call and nothing but answering machine . I leave a message and still no return as its 3:30pm now and so I call the store and the same guy answers the phone, I ask him can he take my number as I've been calling all morning , as well as left a message and was even put on hold for a very long time . And he askes what's this is concerning, I tell him the bones I had bought , my dog didn't even finish the bone "didn't even make it to the bone yet itself" and it still has meat all over it" he says no one ever has made a complaint if I want to speak to the manager and get her attention I would need to go to the store. Out out all the pet stores I've been to this is the worst run around I ever have come across as other pet stores wouldn't keep turning things around to think it was the customer. I will never shop here again! read more

I am extremely disappointed with the customer service, or lack thereof of this store. I needed some catnip plants as my local pet store didn't have them. I could have gone to a nearby nursery but I figured it would be a good opportunity to check out a new pet store and see if they had anything I haven't seen before. As far as the selection goes, pretty much the same you can find in any specialty pet store. Anyway, I called beforehand as I live in New Westminster and I don't drive and it would have been an hour trip on public transit. The girl that picked up the phone told me there were 4 which is exactly the amount I needed. I asked her if she could put them aside for me and I would be by later that day to pick them up. Pretty much, consider them sold. When I got there, I asked for the 4 plants that were put aside for me and the cashier informs me that he could only find 2 and there was one more plant on the floor. I was already frustrated at this point as I came a long way under the assumption that the plants were held for me. The girl who picked up the phone informs me that one was sold in between the time we hung up and her putting them aside. Right! Then, a gentleman who I could only assume as being part of management because he didn't introduce himself to me, informs me that they don't put things on hold and their items are "first come, first served". So, he put aside 2 for me and said it like he was doing me a favour. I understand that policy, however, as I was assured that the plants were put aside for me, that should have been honored unless they could contact me and inform me as such. Had I known there were only 2 put aside, I would not have made the trip as I now have to go to my local nursery anyway to get the extra plant. Regardless of their policy, they should have honored what the girl on the phone told me as there was no way for them to contact me to inform me of their policy. What infuriated me more, was the total lack of empathy from this gentleman. There was no apology or regret for the inconvenience that they have caused me. Funnily enough, the only time he showed any sort of customer service is when I informed him that I would be leaving negative feedback and then all of a sudden, he was much nicer and more accommodating. That's not good customer service. If you are needing to go to a pet store, I would like to suggest Bosleys. They are extremely friendly and have great selection. I will never visit this particular store again. Finally, I bought a scratcher and it smells horrible! My cats will not go near it, let alone use it for scratching. read more

The worst service I received from all Pet's store I have been to. I bought ten neon tetra and one had neon tetra disease (white patch on flank) which died after 2 days as expected. I called the original store where I purchased the fish and asked if I can get a replacement fish at any Mr Pet's and the answer is "Yes". However, when I called Vancouver store which was more convenient for me to go to confirm, their answer is "it depends on our store manager's discretion". Well, I still bought the dead fish in and the manager tried everything she can to prevent me from getting a replacement fish that worth $1 and she asked me to leave the store and come back for the water testing result after 20 min. When I asked if I could watch her testing the water, she said "No". How would I know if she tested the water I brought in or different water that was not suitable for neon to live at the back. There is no transparency for this water testing and this arrangement is definitely a conflict of interest if the store doesn't want to offer customers the replacement fish. If you plan to buy any fish from their store, don't trust their fish guarantee policy because it is a complete joke. Please don't offer fish guarantee if you are not sincere and waste customers' time. read more

I got my two little ferrets Raz and Lily from them not too long ago, and I was quite pleased with how they were looked after. They were already litter box trained and didn't nip at 3 months old. One of the new employees was particularly attached to the ferrets and threw a very unprofessional hissy fit when I bought them. She went as far as trying to refuse the sale to me then stomping off in anger and leaving for the day. The other employees were pleasant and handled the situation in a good way, but I still was kind of shaken from the whole act she put up. Other than her, I like this Mr. Pets and may possibly buy my 3rd ferret from them. read more

Useless! Been keeping fish for 20 years, but because I wouldn't bring in a picture of my tank, and a water sample I wasn't allowed to purchase one fish. I test my own water, and feel confident I have a safe environment for all my pets. Love being treated like an ignorant customer when I likely know more than the minimum wage dork helping me out. Thanks, but no thanks... Way better places to get food and supplies. Marks pets is only a few blocks away, and he gets all my cat needs business, fantastic place!! And i now travel elsewhere for my fish needs, even though Mr. Pets is a block away. They went from being known for their horrible treatment of animals, to adoption Natzi's. Don't bother wasting your time. read more

As a new puppy owner, I am extremely disappointed in the service I received today at mr pets, commercial drive. While the cashier was friendly, another worker (who said she was the manager when I asked) was extremely rude to me the entire time I was there. So rude that I will never go there again-as long as she is employed there-even though I live right around the corner. In the span of 5min, she reprimanded me for not correcting my dog while I was focused on something else (trying to make a purchase in her store), told me that he has no respect for me (I'm working on it, lady- I've had him for 4 days), told me that the food I was going to buy was crap and they shouldn't be selling it (I'm sure the owner would love that)- and my vet only recommended it to get kick backs ( it was one of 4 different foods she recommended). Also, my puppy fractured his leg in a freak accident - getting his nail caught on the poop bag in the middle of the night and getting lifted/falling about a foot off the ground. She insistently told me that I am wrong and there's no way that is how it happened because puppies bones are like rubber and something worse must have happened before we got him. Well, he was fine before the bag incident and couldn't walk on it immediately after- and mind your own business. Extremely rude and bad mannered -especially to a customer. I will never go there again and will let others know of my experience. I am trying to find a contact for the owner- the workers refused to give it to me. Although the woman did become slightly apologetic once I started asking her name , etc. read more
