Okay, this may sound silly - But I don't have a pet yet... But I am in the process of possibly adopting a dog. I live in the neighbourhood and casually walked by to see if I could start pricing the average "start up" costs; just to know what to expect. I walk into a very well kept store, Attentive team and a smorgasbord of pet foods, treats and much more. I explained my situation to Tamara about my lack of knowledge about the current times of raising a puppy. Tamara was incredibly knowledgable on the topic and very patient with all my questions. Not pushing me either way to buy the most expensive but buy the best item suited for my needs and possible pup. A surprisingly full, cubby of a location with a large selection of well priced pet foods and supplies. We bought a bottlw of bitter apple spray to deter pets from a specific spot and a toy. Note that this establishment does seem to close early. read more

The man at the cash register is super short and rude, rolled his eyes at me when I asked a dog food related question. I asked him for help and he ignored me, he also gave the woman infront of me in the lineup a free dog toy after flirting with her for 10 mins (before that woman came in, he mentioned to someone that he had a wife). not great but decentish selection.. read more

Unlike the previous (initial) review, this was my first experience with Pet Pantry, and as such I'll be sharing my experience specifically with Pet Pantry versus the owner's other businesses. Pet Pantry is a new pet food/supply store that just opened up recently (within the 3-4 weeks I'd say?) in the Davie village. Living in the West End, this is super convenient for me, as I've previously had to commute down into Yaletown to get the specific brands of pet food I need for my dog and cat. They carry a lot of specialty/wellness brands like higher quality kibbles and raw foods. It's a small but cozy space. They didn't have quite what I was looking for, but the owner offered to order it for me and give me a call when it came in a few days later. I was super appreciative of this although I went with something else instead so I didn't have to wait. I can understand if they don't have every variety of every pet food considering they've only been open for a little while. Prices are about the same as they would be in other pet stores. Maybe a little higher, but not by much. The owner offered me 10% off on my purchase because it was my first time there. He noticed that I was buying both cat and dog food, and was friendly enough to ask what breeds they were and their names. It was a nice personal touch that he was getting to know me a little bit rather than just take my money and move on. I'm still loyal to my other pet store in Yaletown, but in a pinch or if I'm feeling particular lazy I'd likely stop at Pet Pantry to get what I need. While I don't want to harp on the previous reviewer again too much, I think it's unfair and unrealistic to expect every pet store to have dog treats on hand, or for businesses not to get a little frustrated if your wet dog is running free everywhere, or for pet store staff to keep your dog occupied while you shop for what you need. I'm sure I'd have no trouble bringing my own dog to Pet Pantry, but I'd probably keep him on his leash. Grateful for the convenience of a new, quality pet store on Davie. :) read more

Pet Pantry is the best pet store in town. Not only that we buy all of our pet food and other products from Pantry but we also get them delivered to our door so we don't have to lift a finger. Owners are huge animal lovers and you know you will get the best care and recommendation for all your pet needs. And they also have this awesome dog care at the back. Very pleased with my order. They must of been short of one flavour of cat food pouches I order so they substituted and threw in 3-4 extra pouches as well as a free toy. Was at Pet Pantry yesterday. I was going to review the food and store, and read the other reviews first. Some of the reviews are mentioning the tall balding guy as unhelpful. If that is the same guy that helped me, his name is Keith. I couldn't find what I was looking for and I thought he was helpful when helped me find it. Really polite and knowledgeable to me. Otherwise the store is as a lot of the reviewers say - dog food is expensive, but I get it - the rent must be astronomical in that block. read more

In this competitive environment, we as pet owners are spoiled with options. However I'm so glad I made the jump from a good to a great pet store. First and foremost - what makes this place "Great" is the down to earth and personal service that differentiates this little store from other businesses. Owner engages into conversations that show he is genuinely interested in your pet. You can easily tell the owner himself loves animals of all kind and especially knowledgeable about dogs and cats. I remember one day I described a totally random dog that I was curious about, he took the time to show me his guesses (in any given day this is a busy store and he guessed it in seconds!) also not surprisingly he knew all about the diet - so feel free to ask anything to this guy. Trust comes first here so you know you have the options, the expertise to help you with, ability to return items when appropriate and you know you don't get overcharged - with trust comes the peace of mind so you don't look back after you make a purchase. They provide a wide selection of products with good pricing considering the high quality of most items. You have both the affordable and premium options to choose from which is always welcome. Another interesting feat is that the store provides a clean & easy environment to navigate, overall a "very pleasant" experience. This one is tough to nail for many other pet stores as most of the time you may get too cramped in aisles, products would be in a mess and nobody there to help you - it would be just a chore to shop. Also the business has a very convenient location with easy access. Can't think of any cons of this little-big store! I`m so happy that I have found Pet Pantry! A staff that is knowledgeable about their products means a lot to me while I learn about my pup`s health needs. He recently had surgery and was having a very hard time keeping the medication down and it also did not seem to help very much. Sercin suggested I try a product called Recovery. Its an herbal pain relief product. Half an hour after he got it he was a much happier and more playful pooch. It is a wonderful product to go alongside the prescription med as well as for weaning him off pain killers. I will definitely recommend this store to anyone with pets who likes one on one attention to purchase the appropriate product! read more

I would not spend a dime in this store. They also own the day care attached called Sit Doggie Daycare now called Canine Concierge. The owner who was in his store Pet Pantry had attitude with me after his staff made a scheduling error. To the point that I did not feel comfortable leaving my dog at the daycare at all and did not enjoy my interaction with Sercin the owner or being in their store. He told my dog to sit several times and did not pet her or even offer a treat. He was uncomfortable with the dog being wet. My dog attempted to go behind the counter, cause most pet friendly places keep their treats there and he was bothered because she was wet,and told me his electronics were very expensive and a wet dog could ruin it. I explained that Bosley's and other pet stores keep treats behind the counter and we live in Vancouver so dogs will be wet coming into the store. I suggested he not leave his electronics exposed maybe get doors for the shelves so a wet or drooling dog won't cause harm. I also told him that when I do take my dog to Bosley's or a pet friendly store, the staff usually have my dog behind the counter and feed her treats keeping her busy while I shop, and that a pet store should be prepared for wet dogs in Vancouver. The water bowl was empty and my dog did not have a good experience and will never go back. Do yourself a favour and walk the extra 10 min to another pet supply store where you and your pet get treated with good vibes and happiness. read more

I am currently on a personal boycott of this pet food store due to poor customer service, bordering on rude. When the store first opened, I was happy there was a new quality pet food store nearby. Initially they even offered a loyalty discount, which disappeared for no reason and no explanation. My issue is not with the dark-haired male employee, my issues are with the female employee and the taller light-haired male employee. Both have provided poor customer service, the woman bordering on rude. For example, I brought my dog in there on his leash and there was a large breed dog off leash running from the back to the front of the store, and my dog barked at that dog. The female employee had the nerve to discipline my dog! If anyone has been in the store it is extremely tiny and to have a large breed dog running out of control, she should've told the owner to put his dog on a leash. I also walk other people's dogs and would often stop in for a visit or quick treat. The female employee, even after months and months of going in the store with tons of different dogs, she always acts surprised that someone let me walk the dog, making barely audible comments, it is very offensive. The taller light-haired man could also work on his customer service. On two specific occasions I went in and asked for a certain raw food. He has never been helpful, and the last time he told me what I was looking for they don't make any more which was an out right lie. And annoying because I had bought those products for months previously at their store. I walked over to another pet store and bought what I needed without the attitude, and every protein I was looking for was in stock and NOT discontinued. And what is with the budget treats? The store stocks high-quality food and treats, but the last time I was in there two processed heart-shaped cat treats were tossed on the floor for my dog! It seems to me if you're going to be carrying premium food and treats, give out premium treats and don't throw it on the floor because that was the last straw for me and I will never be back in the store. It is too bad because it is a store that sells products that I want to buy, I have spent a lot of money in their store, but I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

After moving to the area and getting my first cat since moving out from home (9 years ago...yay!) I started looking for a pet store that is within walking distance and carries high quality food/products. This store happens to be the closest option but they have also ended up being the least expensive for Orijen dry food and Weruva and Wild Calling wet foods. They have a loyalty program that offers 10% off all purchases, just have to give them your basic details so they can look you or your pet up. Also they email your receipt so you can go paper free. The owner is usually in who I have found very friendly and helpful. The other staff are also quite good. read more

The staff are really helpful. They greet you as soon as you walk through the door and ask you about your pet, and offer suggestions if you ask for them. They also have a 10% off deal for anyone who signs their pet up (no cost - you only have to give them your name & your pets name & they keep the info in their system for future visits to the store.)
