Great place for pet supplies, but not so good for pets. This big box store shares a parking lot with Canadian Tire, Starbucks and Boston Pizza. There's lots of parking, and you can run multiple errands while here. They have a huge selection of pet supplies including foods, cages, kennels, furniture, toys, habitats and clothing. Prices and selection for a wide range of budgets and tastes. However, the pets available for purchase is limited to birds, fish, small rodents, small reptiles and the occasional cat. Dogs are nowhere to be found. They do sell live worms and crickets for reptile food, but I guess you could buy them to be pets, if you really wanted. The fish here often look sickly, emaciated, discolored and deformed. Definitely not the best place to get top quality ornamental fish. Great place if you already have a pet. Not so great if you're looking for one.

This store is HORRIFIC and displays UNACCEPTABLE ANIMAL CRUELTY. Rats are highly intelligent, social, animals. They also have extremely sensitive respiratory systems. Putting them in a container like this not only stresses them out but also puts them at risk of chronic URI's. I told the cashier that he needs a proper temporary enclosure and I believe they did go back to get one. But it's shameful this happened at all. Would you put a puppy in a Tupperware container? When my friend called to report it to manager, she was told I was lying and they would never do that to animals. Here are the photos as proof. She went back in and got all 4 remaining rats out of the store.

I'm a fish fanatic ... The quality and selection of fish at this location is mediocre. Quality of service will depend on who is helping you. Location is convenient The store is clean It would be nice if they amped up the selection and quality of marine life.

My dog's armpit got razored to be like this.

I have been a customer at several pet smart locations for the past decade. My dog had a grooming service at 2870 Bentall st location on May 20. I am very disappointed and horrified by an injury to my dog as a result of gross negligence by the staff; who compounded the issue further by failing to notify me. While shaving my dogs left front arm pit, they shaved two inches of his skin off. Upon my own discovery, I brought my dog to a vet, he had to be sedated to get a treatment and for infection. Obviously my dog has been severely traumatized. I cannot understand how the staff properly trained staff could cause such a serious injury, let alone say when I picked him up "everything was great." As if nothing happened. I complained to the company after seeing a vet, but I haven't heard a word from the store. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL YOUR COST.

I wandered in having arrived early to the area to meet a galpal after she finished work. Having recently ad opted a cat I'd been throwing the idea around of getting a cat tree/large post with platforms so went over to the cat section. Can't say that anything seemed especially organized and as I wandered around hoping for grocery store signage which would at least say WHERE the cat posts and/or hairball remedies would be, I came across the corner of the store where in the highest possible spot totally unreachable by customers, are they're cat posts. As I peered, squinted and crossed my fingers, no such luck in any signage/price labeling/info could be found anywhere. What did I expect? Although for a moment I entertained the idea of crawling up the airplane like wheely staircase pushed up against a back wall... Hmmmmm. If it wasn't for the visual of my potentially crashing to the ground on something not-secured or something... I'd gone further with it for sure. Or at least my imagination is saying so. Foiled at these simple tasks I thought I'd retrace my steps to see if I could find a staff member, any staff member. You would think that with a floater staff member and 2 cashiers in a dead store Wednesday afternoon at 4pm, that at least ONE person somewhere would be available to ask questions and greet customers. I did find a single gal, but she was too busy nattering on about dog chew toys like those she had at home to even look in my direction even though I stood near her and the other customer for the longest time. Bah!!! Not worth it! I left. Unmarked and unobtainable why would I be interested in shopping at a store like this? At least the mom & pop stores treat you better and mark/store their stock in such a way that it's easily examinable. I won't be back.

I understood, it was a few weeks before Christmas and why would a dozen or so people want to train their pups? Ok, so I will wait for the next one. I didn't wait, I went to another puppy class with a different company that I quite enjoyed. In the beginning of January, I receive an email from Georgina from DogStars to let me know of some upcoming classes and a drop-in puppy socialization thingy. I responded two days later wondering if a week after spay surgery would be ok. Never heard back. Two weeks later, I send a follow-up email as it was the day before the puppy classes were to start stating that I was still interested in attending.. today is the start of the puppy class and STILL haven't heard back. My rating is for the lack of professional communication even before classes and NOT the actual training that she may be providing.

Not only did she get back to me when she said she would with extra information I was looking for, she also told me she might be able to assist me in finding a dog to work with in the hands on training part of the program. I am looking forward to my new career and I really think that I have made a good decision to go with Dog Stars as their Diploma is also P.C.T.I.A approved and not all of the dog training institutions are.

During the pandemic they followed Public Health Orders and always ensured safety was maintained for dogs and trainers alike. My dog and I were made to feel very welcome and it has been really great training both privately and in group classes. The group class community is very positive and encouraging - people clap for each other, cheer each other on or even trade videos of each other's runs. We also laugh at the silly things our dogs do from time to time. The instructor I've been primarily working with is Elisha and she has an incredible sense of humour, is an encouraging coach and is quick to identify errors and recommend adjustments. All the dogs love her as she often has the best treats for the most challenging obstacles. They have a good registration system in place where if you already have a spot in the class then you have a reserved space for the next series. Private lessons are popular also. Staff are very communicative and kind with questions. Bonus is that their payment system is through a business version of PayPal so I feel my credit card information is safe. I'd highly recommend this place if you're thinking about taking your dog here for training.

Luna was any where between 5-8 months and I would now be her 4th owner. Luna was an extra large puppy about 75lbs a shepherd, boarder collie, retriever cross and facing many health problems as well as behaviour issues that were unfolding by the day. Luna is now between 98-100lbs. Luna was hyperactive, barely knew to sit, would chronically whine, stress bark/scream became reactive (barking and lunging) at dogs, buses, large trucks and would lose complete control if she saw anyone with a ball of any kind. Luna could not focus at all was high stressed, high strung and a handful who is a super athletic dog who is strong. Luna wold turn her frustration to me and jump up and nip and mouth leaving me with busies and often in tears. Drew and I worked for the same company for many years knew of one another but didn't know one another well. Meeting drew on our first consultation I was so nervous I was trembling. My fear was that Drew would tell me that Luna should be put down or was hopeless to train, would have no dog friends and was aggressive. (Something another trainer advised me) I loved Luna and saw her struggles the moment she stepped out of the craigslist posters car and I knew I wouldn't give up on her. Drew is supportive and not once indicated that there was no hope for Luna. Drew tried all kinds of tactics to reach and connect with Luna. Drew helped me perfect my body language and increase my confidence working a strong, working breed. Drew helped me break down step by step every challenge I was facing (and there were many) Every time I needed Drew a solution was provided. It was a struggle and Drew's commitment to Luna was an inspiration and motivation to keep going. Today Luna has peace a gift Drew helped me create with Luna. Luna knows well over 50 commands well, Luna is obedient has learned to ignore all dogs, has actually made dog friends and can be trusted with puppies as young at 9 weeks old with no issues. Luna now walks with young puppies and adolescent dogs giving them confidence and lesson their fear of large dogs. With Drew, you will see immediate improvement and come out of the experience with a plan and confidence to take on any situation. Luna is my best friend and continues to help other dogs that were just like she was in the beginning because of Drew's gift and dedication to dogs. I am forever grateful. Carey Bolduc

If i could give Christine and Downtown Dogs 10 stars I would !…read more This is the BEST doggy daycare in the city BY FAR (and I've tried a few) and you can tell the staff truely care about the dogs and are passionate about their job. The facility is very clean and has different sections for the dogs to hangout and play in opposed to just putting them in an open space like other doggy daycares do. Christine knows what she's doing :) to keep all the dogs happy. You can tell they really care about the wellbeing of your dog :) I have a little chihuahua with seperation anxiety so doggy daycare is my only answer while I'm at work. I took my pup to a small dogs only daycare and she would always come back smelling so bad and running for the water bowl when we got home & seemed stressed. so I knew I had to try a different daycare and I'm so glad I found Downtown Dogs! I was a little hesitant bringing my small pup to all sizes doggy daycare but the staff know what they are doing! Christine is a dog trainer, a good one and it shows. I pick up my pup from Downtown Dogs and she's so confident and happy, she loves going there ! I can see the difference in her behaviour. If you need a trustworthy doggy daycare, bring your dog here! They go above and beyond !

Totally don't know how I haven't left a review for DownTown Dogs yet…read more Christine, the owner and head trainer, is basically a dog-rockstar. On my dog, Sam's, first day of daycare with Christine he came home with a report card detailing what he did for the day. Cutest thing ever? I think so. After having some questionable dog daycare experiences at another establishement (see my other reviews) I asked Christine if I could come early or late to get a tour of the facility, meet her and the staff, and decide if it was the right place for Sam. Christine was MORE than happy to comply, and Sam went to daycare there for 2 full years, 3 days a week. We have also taken agility and outdoor fun classes with Christine, which were both SUPER fun. Another really key thing to note is how much Downtown Dogs cares about the community. A few months ago I got an email request for help with preparing food packages to be given to street youth to help feed their pets. Christine has been key in getting literally thousands of pounds of dog and cat food to people who can't otherwise afford it. Basically, downtown dogs is excellent value, top quality, and one of the best places for dog daycare. The class sizes (ha) are usually 15 dogs, and there is onsite grooming available.

Asked for mostly a nail trim (they're becoming a health risk) and sure, why not, a bath. While he was in, they called me and told me he was shedding quite a bit (he does, but not excessively) and said they'd deshed him. I expected a bit of an upcharge for the brushing, but was surprised to see that my bill had literally doubled. They charged the same amount for a brushout as they would for a full shave. I felt a little taken by the upsell without telling me up front what the cost would be. Had I known it would have doubled the price of the appointment, I would not have agreed. They did a decent job but I am not entirely pleased with the way that this was handled. Edit: I have adjusted my review based on the behavior of management. Rather than cast blame at someone for not having a facebook conversation from more than a week ago on hand during a rushed phone conversation and messaging me on facebook with screenshots as a "gotcha", perhaps a small mea culpa of "yes perhaps we should confirm the price before going ahead" could have worked better and I would have been satisfied with that. I paid for the services that I agreed to, although I did feel a bit taken not knowing the cost, and I tipped, everything past this is just customer service, and the defensive behavior of the management towards someone who was perhaps a bit stung at getting charged double in what was a surprise due to poor communication is not a good sign for potential customers as to how this business handles problems when they arise.
