Colorful tetras.

Great place for pet supplies, but not so good for pets. This big box store shares a parking lot with Canadian Tire, Starbucks and Boston Pizza. There's lots of parking, and you can run multiple errands while here. They have a huge selection of pet supplies including foods, cages, kennels, furniture, toys, habitats and clothing. Prices and selection for a wide range of budgets and tastes. However, the pets available for purchase is limited to birds, fish, small rodents, small reptiles and the occasional cat. Dogs are nowhere to be found. They do sell live worms and crickets for reptile food, but I guess you could buy them to be pets, if you really wanted. The fish here often look sickly, emaciated, discolored and deformed. Definitely not the best place to get top quality ornamental fish. Great place if you already have a pet. Not so great if you're looking for one.

This store is HORRIFIC and displays UNACCEPTABLE ANIMAL CRUELTY. Rats are highly intelligent, social, animals. They also have extremely sensitive respiratory systems. Putting them in a container like this not only stresses them out but also puts them at risk of chronic URI's. I told the cashier that he needs a proper temporary enclosure and I believe they did go back to get one. But it's shameful this happened at all. Would you put a puppy in a Tupperware container? When my friend called to report it to manager, she was told I was lying and they would never do that to animals. Here are the photos as proof. She went back in and got all 4 remaining rats out of the store.

I'm a fish fanatic ... The quality and selection of fish at this location is mediocre. Quality of service will depend on who is helping you. Location is convenient The store is clean It would be nice if they amped up the selection and quality of marine life.

My dog's armpit got razored to be like this.

I have been a customer at several pet smart locations for the past decade. My dog had a grooming service at 2870 Bentall st location on May 20. I am very disappointed and horrified by an injury to my dog as a result of gross negligence by the staff; who compounded the issue further by failing to notify me. While shaving my dogs left front arm pit, they shaved two inches of his skin off. Upon my own discovery, I brought my dog to a vet, he had to be sedated to get a treatment and for infection. Obviously my dog has been severely traumatized. I cannot understand how the staff properly trained staff could cause such a serious injury, let alone say when I picked him up "everything was great." As if nothing happened. I complained to the company after seeing a vet, but I haven't heard a word from the store. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL YOUR COST.

I wandered in having arrived early to the area to meet a galpal after she finished work. Having recently ad opted a cat I'd been throwing the idea around of getting a cat tree/large post with platforms so went over to the cat section. Can't say that anything seemed especially organized and as I wandered around hoping for grocery store signage which would at least say WHERE the cat posts and/or hairball remedies would be, I came across the corner of the store where in the highest possible spot totally unreachable by customers, are they're cat posts. As I peered, squinted and crossed my fingers, no such luck in any signage/price labeling/info could be found anywhere. What did I expect? Although for a moment I entertained the idea of crawling up the airplane like wheely staircase pushed up against a back wall... Hmmmmm. If it wasn't for the visual of my potentially crashing to the ground on something not-secured or something... I'd gone further with it for sure. Or at least my imagination is saying so. Foiled at these simple tasks I thought I'd retrace my steps to see if I could find a staff member, any staff member. You would think that with a floater staff member and 2 cashiers in a dead store Wednesday afternoon at 4pm, that at least ONE person somewhere would be available to ask questions and greet customers. I did find a single gal, but she was too busy nattering on about dog chew toys like those she had at home to even look in my direction even though I stood near her and the other customer for the longest time. Bah!!! Not worth it! I left. Unmarked and unobtainable why would I be interested in shopping at a store like this? At least the mom & pop stores treat you better and mark/store their stock in such a way that it's easily examinable. I won't be back.

They have a great assortment of toys, leashes/harnesses and shampoos, much more than a smaller store like Tisol.

My dog is a year and a half, and her hair had never been cut ever since she was born, and now it will take years for it to grow back after this. Not only did she cut the fur off, the cut itself was so extremely poor, I've had people ask me if I cut it myself. I posted the post-groom pictures on my Maltese group online, and the consensus was this person is not a "master groomer". Every single leg is cut different, her face is different on either side, there are scissor cuts left in the fur all over her body. She did have a top knot before the groom, and I told the groomer that I like to put it in a ponytail every single day, and she cut it so uneven and short that she herself had to put it into two ponytails because it's almost impossible to have it put into one ponytail with how it's cut. And to be clear, I handed over a dog that had ZERO knots or mats in her fur. I combed through her fur with a metal comb less than an hour before the groomer arrived. Completely devastating when I was so specific. Within minutes of meeting the groomer by her van, she told me that my dog was not a purebred (I have papers), that she had a blocked tear duct, and that her hair would never grow long. I brought her to the vet the next day because of course I was worried if she maybe she did have a blocked tear duct. A $90 veterinarian examination fee and five minutes later to be told her eyes are perfectly fine. And then there another $90 for another groom to have this absolutely terrible cut fixed. What a nightmare. If you're looking for a specific cut, while this person identifies as a "master groomer", the cut she gave she might as well be working at Petsmart, which is where most people thought I brought my dog to have her hair done. So in total, I have paid $358 to have my 5 pound dog trimmed. I also wonder if she is even an actual working groomer now. She showed up in a van that was completely smashed up on the side, and when I looked in her van, it looked more like storage than a place where a dog could be groomed. Never again. So ripped off. The first two pictures are right after the groom in the van, and the last picture is the beautiful dog I handed over to her.

Because I had called and called and called and…read morecalled at 10 am to let them know I was on the way just stuck in traffic and wanted to know if I got there would she still be able to have her teeth cleaned. No one answered. The directory was super long and hearing out the options was so time consuming. And the option to speak to the store always rang once then long silence and then ends call automatically. I did manage to get there. And it was 10:30 am. Her appointment was 10-11 am. They agreed to clean her molars which were the ones with tons of sudden build up. But when my dog came out at 11 am the lady Cindy told me she was able to fully clean my dog's teeth because she was such a saint and put up no fuss. yes. She's an absolute princess when it's with strangers. She's stubborn as hell with mommy though. Anyways. For $250 it ain't bad. She went in with build up on her molars that looked like caramel coated popcorn. And came out with white teeth that looked like white strips was used her teeth were clean and white. My dog is 3.5 years old and this was her first dental visit. And she's a bit on the shy side with new people and they handled her so well she wasn't stressed at all when she came out in Cindy's arm. I highly recommend this place for your dog's dental needs. They also offer the full array of grooming services. and I would like to point out for all the reviews on Google that complained the shop did not do as asked for grooming style and technique.... They do what's best for YOUR DOG... AS BEST THAT THEY CAN FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OF THE OWNER. This shop puts your dog first. So perhaps be appreciative that they don't rip mats from your dog's coat just because you want it done without shaving. Or that you don't like the length of the coat. Even when you go to a hairdresser your hair cut can be a flop. People are human. Dogs are even more unpredictable. They can move or refuse to cooperate. They do their very best based on your dog's behaviour and its needs and your wishes. I witnessed about 7 customers in the time I waited for my dog's teeth cleaning. They clearly go over expectations and their own boundaries that puts pet's comfort and consideration first and foremost.

Any who, not only did Dharma dogs respond to me so quickly, their quote was the same online and for what I paid for. I brought in my 7month old dog and my dog is crazy, she is super active, very friendly and wants to meet everyone. It was her first haircut and she had so much matting I wasn't sure how she was going to react to grooming. But this grooming place really took care of Stella. She was perfectly cut, behaved, with no problems. Had all the matting cut in less than 2 hours. They work fast!! They had about 2-3 other dogs and had my dog perfectly cut in half the time at another groomers. Also a big part of why I like this place is because of the staff. The person who cut Stella was super nice. I wish I got her name. Will be coming back and request the woman who cut Stella. - will update with her name.

Due to serious illness, I was slow to reach out and complain. They offered me a second grooming at 50% off. It was a TERRIBLE DISASTER!! They shaved my dog completely including his tail ( a POODLE!) He looked like a rat with all his hair shaved off his body and especially his entire tail!! That was brutal! His face was very carelessly trimmed. My niece, who is a nurse, used her scissors to clean up his very messy face. Both times I had him groomed there, he came out upset and traumatized. Far more serious was the fact that he could NOT walk properly for nearly a week and he absolutely could not run. ( he is a two year old poodle who runs like the wind every day) . Had I not been so ill myself, I would have dealt with this at the time. My poor dog could not WALK!! He'd take a could of steps then sit. He kept turning his head towards his bum. Goodness knows WHAT they did to him! He was clearly in some pain and it was awful to see him trying to walk. So, the other two places I had him groomed were fine. Darma Dog is a place I would NEVER set foot in again. Recently, I talked with a woman at Trout Lake. Her dog had been groomed at Darma Dog. He also could hardly walk afterwards but she determined that his nails had been cut way too short causing pain when he walked. I loved the name Darma Dog. They were warm and friendly but my dog got really HARMED TWICE!

Kaori eventually transferred to BabyD's to groom...and my groom cost DOUBLED with that owner, "the lovely" David. Don't expect good service from him, his lack of Customer Service skills speaks to his priorities...clearly not there to care for dogs, just make money and be nasty when he can. During her last groom with Kaori, I was horrified to get her home and she the extensive damage to her paw in the photo - the black padding was shaved off on one part of her left back paw pad; a huge hunk of tissue was gouged out; and the swollen, painful burned areas around her paw that were puffy they were so inflamed...it was shocking. I texted Kaori the photo and said I understand accidents happen...she just ignored my text and the gruesome photo. But in speaking again with the vet and my breeder, they insisted that was unprofessional and that she should compensate me in some way for the vet bill and a free groom. So I wrote her again asked her to compensate me and expressed that I was not too happy she just ignored my text. She's groomed Annabelle for 13 years...you treat a good client like that? So then I get a call from "the lovely" David and he simply tells me never to come back to their salon...period, end of story. They took no responsibility, denied their responsibility, and had no remorse for all the pain and suffering they caused my dog. Sometimes it takes a long time to find out who you are really dealing with and unfortunately trusting your precious pets with people that don't really care. There is no excuse for bad grooming that inflicts this kind of damage on a dog nor this unkind and unprofessional behaviour when you call them on it. They didn't even care that Annabelle is at the end of her life soon and to change her grooming and relationships at this point is heartbreaking. She such a sweet girl and to see her try to lick her paw so incessantly for weeks is also heartbreaking. Conclusion: don't recommend this business if you don't want nasty surprises. Such a disappointment.
