Most pet stores in Vancouver, Canada have almost the same brands, toys, treats and food but Barking Babies is very selective and caring that things serve the family well, with a wide gorgeous, selection of some of the best goodies and gear ever for the modern dog. I first came hoping to find a less heavy carrier for my new puppy. Ended up with a nice front/back carrier from Japanese brand Mon Cheri which I love that the store owner helped me choose with expertise and knowledge to recommend what would be a great match for my needs. Not too bulky or heavy. Barking Babies carries a lot of fantastic luxury dog/pet carriers, there are some available to order in store too and they have all kinds of fashionable clothes, shoes, toys, beds, gourmet food and treats for dogs too! When I first came in I was still starting to socialize Soda and now Soda loves the store and gets along great with the 2-3 dogs who help run the store and it has been nice for Soda to visit with them. We have also gotten two beautiful soft rolled faux leather convertible hands free leashes, some Wag Wear rain boots for my dogs, Nono and Soda, a few toys, treats, Woof Dog Food and even a Lafufu plush toy for Soda, and my dogs are obsessed with everything we get from the store from the cute xmas gift snuffle box to her beloved Lafufu and even the Wag Wear shoes. Such a cute local store for dog food and treats and accessories! The staff were so friendly and helpful, and they had a variety of snacks and treats and lots of accessories including leashes and collars and ... cute clothes! So many cute little jackets and coats and shirts for your beloved pet with faux designer labels. We couldn't resist picking up a couple of cute outfits! They also have a bakery section with homemade doggie bakery items. Many are made with low sugar yogurt based icing to make them healthy for your pup. I don't like cutting my dog's toenails because I'm petrified that I cut the quick. I took her to barking babies to get a nail trim and noticed blood on the ground after I got her back. I complained and they took her into the back to tidy her up. She was there for a while. "No charge of course, she was probably wriggling about like they do" I was told and sent away with a pitiful bag of cheap treats. My main concern was that she'd get an infection walking home so I carried her all the way. On getting her home and inspecting closer, I discovered it wasn't just the tip of the quick, which would be acceptable if wriggling was involved, they have severed half of her quick, see photos. Totally unacceptable. We'll never go back, they have no respect or care for animals, shocking. ****please note**** After leaving my review I received a 'compliment' from a user named 'Ana J', an account that was set up the day I wrote my review.....hmmmm Sherlock, wonder who this user is....I'll leave it up to the reader to decide........ Compliment from Ana J. I can clearly see from the photo that it is the tip of the quick not half. I understand your concern but yes accidents happen especially with dogs that are very afraid and difficult to handle. You can help to prevent instances like this by working with your pet on having its paws handled. Take some responsibility and do some preventative training as this is likely not the last time it's nails will be trimmed. Grooming and nail clipping is not a walk in the park. I've been bringing my puppy, Miso, to Barking Babies for grooming since last year. We've tried multiple groomers in the lower mainland, and Barking Babies definitely our favourite. We usually ask them to shave his body and legs, a round trim for his face, and Yorkie ears. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and they have an amazing selection of treats, toys, and doggie clothes. Some of Miso's favourite things from Barking Babies include his squeaky pizza toy, his squeaky 'grrrona' toy, and the Blue Dane steak bites in the beef & apple cider vinegar flavour! Prices are a little high at Barking Babies, but keep in mind that this is Yaletown. Plus, I don't really mind spending more on my baby! TLDR; Friendly staff and environment. Experienced groomers. I have a mini Aussie Shepard and they do the best job in Vancouver, plus I love that they only cater to smaller dogs as she is very fearful of large dogs. I feel very safe leaving here, which has not always been the case at other groomers. I was taking her elsewhere to a groomers in Coal Harbour and Gastown for awhile and the cuts were not nearly as good - she was basically just being shaved which is not appropriate for her coat, plus I had some worries about her while in their care. The groomers at Barking Babies actually know how to handle her coat and do a perfect job every time. read more

My girlfriend and I were walking by and decided to check this pet store out. So glad we did! There is a ton of selection for all your dog's needs. In particular my girlfriend loved all the fun "luxury brands" such as Chewnel. They also had a ton of quality dog treats. I also wanted to compliment the two employees working today (8/7/18). Didn't catch their names but they were really friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. And last but not least there were a few friendly "house dogs" smiling and coming up for a pet. This is the only place I go to get my Scottish fold some hot hot items to wear! They also have leashes procured for not just dogs, but cats!! Upon walking into Barking Babies, you feel immediately welcomed. I've taken my dog here twice this year for routine nail trimming. First Visit: - Nails not short enough, 1-2mm taken off and some nails neglected altogether. - Dog was held by one staff member and trimmed by another in the retail space, not the back room - $11.20 Second Visit: - Trimmed in retail space again (by same staff member as first visit) - I made sure nails were trimmed shorter this time - A few bleeders, one was quite bad - I...ME...I had to hold onto my own dog while staff trimmed!! - $12.60 Both times, my dog panicked and underwent trauma. I did vocalize my disapproval and hinted that they may need to address their methods because they certainly weren't good. Upon apologizing, staff suggested I take my dog elsewhere instead of re-evaluating their practice. Okay, I will. What dog really enjoys having their nails done, honestly. Mine prefers to flee. However, she is so happy when I take her to Pawsh - the nails are nice and short, never bleeding, and she is done in under 2 minutes. This is what the experience SHOULD be like. I have a shaggy Maltese cross who I have taken there multiple times for grooming, treats and toys and have only ever had an amazing experience in-store. Initially I was concerned that as I do not look like your typical yaletown dog mom that I would get a pretty-woman style experience, instead I had fantastic customer service and was shown all the cool things in-store that my more "alternative" tastes would like. The grooming has always been a fantastic as well. Kita who is 8 and socialized-though-not-social never seems frazzled, or stressed when I pick her up. Not to mention she looks great and as most folks with long haired dogs know that can be quite the task. It is nice to come in and have the staff not only know me but my dog by name, and feel like the experience is genuine. I don't have a dog but I will certainly return to this business! I was shopping for a carrying bag for my kitten and was very pleased with the service received. First of all, the store was hopping: about 10 customers, 2 staff members and few dogs; its a small store. Generally when a store seems really busy and I need assistance I will leave and come back or sometimes not come back if I feel ignored... But after a few minutes looking around I could see the selection and level of service I'd receive would be worth the wait. Secondly, I was relieved that I wasn't kicked out the door for mentioning I was shopping for a "kitty carrier". The woman who helped my was non-discriminative and friendly. She showed me all the bells and whistles included in my fancy carrier and I was sold. A demonstration can go a long way in selling something: I was sure I wasn't willing to pay "that" much for a cat bag but I did! No hesitation. Thirdly, Although the store was busy and the staff tag-teamed my purchase in an extremely "efficient" manner, I did not feel rushed or like I was taking up their precious time. Worst groomers in downtown Vancouver! Dropped off my two dogs for a buzz cut and was very specific about not cutting one of my dogs lashes and ears. When they called me to pick them up they told me they had cut his lashes by accident. When I came to pick them up not only had they cut his lashes but they has also cut his ear hair which I had specially asked them to not do. When I mentioned the ears being cut to the groomer who I had original told to not cut his lashes or ears she said that she "only cut them a little" ... I told her I didn't want them cut at all like I had stated 3-5 times when I dropped them off to her. She didn't apology's for not only cutting his lashes but also his ears and kept repeating herself 'that she only cut a few inches.' What was the point of the consultation with her at the beginning if she wasn't going to listen to any of my requests?!! Not only did she not listen to us but when we got home we also noticed he had a few nicks and cuts on his tail. I understand accidents happen but they should have told us they cut him when we picked him up! And on top of that the price they quoted me when I made the appointment was a lot lower then what they charged me. read more

They all seem to really love animals. It's pricey so I probably wouldn't make this a regular stop but it's perfect for a treat or a gift. I want to buy the puppy pizza next. This is a Brilliant and Adorable Shop A historical part of Yaletown - How cool is that! My girls are always treated like family, given healthy treats and I really appreciate the time they take to assist me and answer my questions. Sometimes it's really busy but i luv to brows while i wait my turn and I am always appreciative. My Girlz are everything to me and I love that they have everything I need - within reason of course Sometimes I dress my babies (Great Cloths!), sometimes I don't. However unlike what some may think ( I know they do!) I do not treat them like dolls or accessories I treat them like family and have rules and keeping them warm and pretty at the same time is not a sin as far as I know so don't judge. Barking Babies has helped me with soo much and I would be lost without them. Went to look for a harness for my Chi. Got excellent service from a lady who seemed to be the owner. She helped us try out a harness suggested some booties for the Chi's bowed legs. Was a great experience. Wish I had found out more about the grooming services. Also wished they carried small hats or themed head pieces for small dogs. Great store. Will be back read more

Me and my barking baby Zoey have been shopping here for over a year since she was a pup and its her favorite place to go! My first experience is the reason I have been going back ever since. The ladies there are extremely knowledgeable and they really care about all dogs. When i first got Zoey I had lots of questions and they were always happy to answer any I had and recommended the Off Track Dog training classes they have held in the store. These classes were great and I would recommend them to anyone, not only is it great socialization for your puppy but you learn the basics and Saffrina will answer any questions from potty training to behavior issues. The variety of clothing/ accessories/toys treats they sell there is great and its always exciting to see what new things they have in stock. Been there a few times for puppy grooming and the last time I went I feel like I got ripped off. The previous time that I went I was told it was going to cost me 10$ extra for de matting my puppy. This last time that I went she changed the price on me and told me it was going to cost me $1 per minute for de matting! Not impressed ! My bill went from 60$ to 105$ ! Wow just wow ! read more

This is a cute looking little store with a variety of clothing, toys, treats etc for smaller dogs. The lady who helped me (I think she may have been the owner/mgr) was quite friendly but the girl at the till was...meh. I got the impression that she could care less about being there and she appeared lazy, bored, un-enthusiastic as she just sat there staring at a computer the whole time (10-15min approx). Maybe a bad day for her? Dunno A bit overpriced and expensive but a great selection of cute little doggie outfits that I enjoy just looking and awing at. Its too bad that they don't have anything for big dogs tho. The front door/gate set-up is a bit of a safety concern for me. Even with a sign to remind customers to close the gate, some people are flakey leaving it open for dogs to escape. Another big turn-off was the strong odour of dog pee...blaaagghhh! For clothing and attire, I'll stick to buying human baby t-shirts from community thrift store for $1.00 a piece. I will however come here for doggie treats and baked goodies! read more

I love bringing my dog to this place. Their groomer is the best one I have been to so far, and very reasonably priced for a high end doggie store. It's my regular groomer now. My poor dog had an awful haircut before I brought her here and she looked like a sheep mixed with the goodyear blimp. Here they did exactly what I wanted and she now looks like a teddy bear. They do daycare too and I feel very comfortable leaving my dog with them. They take very good care of the pets here. They also have the CUTEST dog accessories, and although I don't really dress my dog up, I would absolutely buy stuff here if I did. Great dog bags, clothing, food, and there are always lots of little dogs here. It seems to be a great social atmosphere for dog owners and the staff seems to really care about the dogs. Very friendly and welcoming. The only thing I didn't like was the lady who does the teeth cleaning. I found her to be very abrupt and demeaning to me. My dog is very calm usually and when she was squirming in this lady's arms while she was checking out her teeth, I offered to help keep her calm so she could check more easily. In a very rude manner she just told me no, and she implied that I was being too soft and that my dog had me wrapped around her finger. What the...? I did not feel comfortable with her at all. I wouldn't bring my dog back to her. Other than the teeth cleaning sergeant, I love this place and so does my dog. Recommend highly. read more

I am the big man with the little dog everyone chuckles at as I walk her down the street in her sweaters and coats and pretty collars. I always thought I would be strictly a big dog guy, but the little ones have a way of truly taking over your heart. This store is for me and my dog, and believe you me, she is a spoiled, spoiled baby girl. Luckily I only ended up buying a cozy, plaid flannel fleece coat this time, but was very impressed with the diversity of sizes, not just S,M,L. Found one that fit her and was also the perfect length to keep her tiny hiney warm as well. There were also all kinds of other dog clothing items, collars, leashes, organic and natural dog treats.
