Do not waste your time going anywhere else! MRK is as knowledgable as it gets. He is patient and kind, professional and communicative, generous of spirit too. AND most importantly - he can fix anything. he's that guy. One time I took my computer somewhere else first because it was nearby and was told I would have to order a part and it would be hundreds of dollars etc etc. Mark was able to fix it in about 2 minutes. I don't know what he did, I don't care. He's that guy. This last time, my 7 yr old macbook air just died of over use and dust and god knows what. had to leave this review. Took my laptop because it would not power on. Within 2 hrs I was informed that the diagnostics had been performed and unfortunately my motherboard was died (basically I was "SOL") and I could pick it up. For some reason his diagnosis didn't sit well with me. I ordered a charging port off Ebay which I installed myself and now I'm typing this review on my supposedly dead laptop. So either I'm better at computer repair than this expert or he's not very honest with his diagnosis or a lousy repair shop. Telling me a new motherboard runs about $200 by itself without the price of labor. When truth they run much cheaper ($130 new and $60 used) on Ebay. I'm saying all this to say in the end it wasn't even my motherboard but a much cheaper part (charging port $17) which was faulty. If I could leave a negative star i would. read more

I called MRK after a nasty virus took over my PC yesterday and I had already contacted a number of computer repair services closer to my midtown Manhattan location. After being quoted $100+ dollars as a flat virus removal rate from most repair companies, I was pleasantly surprised when Mark at MRK suggested there were different tiers depending on how severe the virus was. As I was concerned about coming down to Brooklyn without knowing which tier my virus fell within, Mark even walked me through a diagnostic and clean-up process myself so I could see if my PC required further help. This should be 20 stars. My Andy (Macbook Pro) died in the middle of an important report (of course). I immediately went on to the poor man's repair shop ( YouTube) to find a fix. I was confident it would work because it has never failed me before. No dice! By this time I'm 4 hours in to my sorry repair attempt, and anywhere that could have helped is now closed. Panic has set in ( my panic typically looks like someone trying to detox). I'm hysterical!. Finally after going to sleep at 4a I resigned myself to the fact I needed an expert. The next morning after Yelping and Googling I choose the place opening the earliest. I call and they were very douche-tastic. So I said "Not today satan. Not today" and kept searching. I called and the person who answered was friendly and helpful (first 5 stars). She informed me to bring Andy in and the tech would check it out and let me know the deal before moving forward. Oh no deposit required either(second set of 5 stars) When the tech (Mark) did call he told me what he saw and the price (very very reasonable). After some time he called back and I thought oh noooo but he was honest about the needs and the cost was reasonable (third set of 5 stars). He promised to try and save my files on my desktop and documents AND THAT HE DID! The whole experience was painless and did not cost me an arm and a leg. The work was done in the time frame he promised (last 5 stars). No need to give your money to shops that treat you like an annoyance. Come here and get treated with kindness and feel valued as a customer. When you go to places like this it's usually in desperation and having a positive experience makes it all better. read more

My first (and only, thus far) time going to MRK was a very positive experience. I should note, this is the first time I've ever had a computer problem so baffling I wasn't able to fix it myself. Mark stayed in communication with me, was detailed in his explanation and thorough in his investigation into the--somewhat inscrutable-- problem that had manifested itself in my home-built gaming pc; he eventually traced it to my motherboard. Since the "diagnosis" is always free, Mark did not charge me for any of this problem solving, OR for the new thermal paste he applied to my CPU...I even offered a token "tip", which he politely declined. I have 27' iMac 5k screen computer, that my cat and I together broke. :) Before I asked Tekserve, Apple and some other computer repair stores what's the situation but they're all money suckers like a vampire. They tried to charge me a lot of money more than $500 just for a service fee. But then I found Marc. He was really helpful to me. He's fixed my computer very well. If I could give this place -20 stars I would. I spoke on the phone to a guy named Mark. He was great and made me feel like my laptop was in great hands. The reason for the bad review is for his disgruntled horrible lack of a proper education having employee that Mark has had to deal with. The guy speaks with a horrible accent and treated my laptop like shit. I paid way too much money for my laptop for it to be treated like any old laptop. My laptop is my baby and I expect it to be in great hands. The guy gave me the worst attitude for no reason. He must hate his job because he obviously doesn't give a Damn about laptops or the customers who bring them. He should get fired immediately because he hates his job and is rude to people. read more

Mark? RULES!!!!!!!!!!!! He's really personable and I came in with some seriously dumb stuff. Like "make sure the computer is powered up" kinda stuff I'm not even kidding. Mark fixed it up in like 3.2 seconds. So then I happened to have another laptop I removed a virus from myself. Which, in case you're wondering, I suck at. Anyway there were still a buncha things left over from that that I SHOULD have been smart enough to remove myself? But I wasn't? So Mark fixed that too, all while I was standing there for abt 5 minutes (it took the computer like 4 minutes to boot so I guess he really did it in abt a minute). THEN? He DOESN'T WANNA CHARGE ME. So I literally had to force my money upon him. The thing is it might have only taken a few minutes to do but he spent a lifetime learning the skills it takes to do it in a couple minutes. However, after reading Mark's favorable reviews I decided to give him a try. Now, I can honestly say that I am a Mark convert. He did an EXCELLENT and FAST job repairing my computer - and all for a very reasonable price. He was very accessible by phone and email and was always prompt, courteous, and helpful. I still cannot quite believe how good this service was. I had a bit of trouble trusting it because it seemed to good to be true. I dropped my computer about 7 feet down a staircase, and found that it turned on but had lost the capacity for wireless internet. Through a friend, I learned about MRK Computer, and so I decided to try them. It was a Sat; as I was leaving my message, Marc, the owner of the business, called me back. He told me that he would pick-up the computer for free, diagnose it for free, give me a quote for free, and if I chose to not take him up on his services, he told me he'd return it for free. I decided to give it a shot. He picked it up, diagnosed it an hour later, quoted me $70 for a new wireless card, and dropped it off 2 hours later. I had been dreading calling someone to fix my crashed netbook. I even called MRK and then hung up without leaving a message. Marc actually called me back. He came to my apartment within a few hours, when it was convenient for me. He took apart my laptop, diagnosed the problem, recovered my data, and then took the laptop away to fix it. He called me around 1:30 the next day, ready to return my repaired computer. He brought it to my house--again, at my convenience--and that was that. The rate was extremely reasonable, the data is backed up, and my computer is in perfect working order. On top of all of that, he was really nice! I had a pretty specific problem, with an older model of Asus laptop having had one of the hinges being snapped off, and the casing for the screen needing to be replaced. After tracking down the parts myself, which was almost impossible since the unit was no longer being made, I shopped around to find someone willing to replace the parts for a reasonable price. I've worked in IT for over 10 years, and while I don't deal in hardware I still know what is involved with what I wanted done, and if it is a reasonable price or not. Most places were wanting to charge over $150, Marc was charged a very reasonable $50 and had it finished a few hours later that evening. So I trekked over from Manhattan to Brooklyn to bring in my Samsung laptop. Three days prior my lap top had fallen off a table after my cat had brushed against it. The port where the charger is plugged into the computer was broken. I had previously visited three computer shops with my laptop. Best Buy said it was probably the motorboard and that it would take 3 weeks to repair and cost $250.00 plus. Microcenter in Paterson, NJ said it was the motorboard, it would take 3 weeks to repair at $400.00. A small computer shop in Manhattan (with great reviews on yelp) said it was the motorboard and that it would cost $300.00. After describing the problem to Marc over the phone, he suggested that it might not be the motorboard and that I should bring it in for an evaluation. After I arrived at the shop, Marc disassembled my computer in front of me (which I thought was fabulous) and showed me that the motorboard was intact. He said that he could repair the computer in his shop in three hours for $150.00. Well, he repaired the computer in two hours. Marc was professional, polite, well spoken. There are few if any shops that would repair an item in such a short period of time at such a reasonable price. This shop is a gem, and it IS Crown Heights best kept secret . . . So the touchpad & fingerprint scanner on my laptop stopped working and I had to order the part. I tried to replace the part myself which didn't go so well, mainly because I stripped one of the screws on the back of the laptop. I finally gave in and found MRK online, came here to check the reviews and called Marc to see what time I could come in. A few hours later I was standing in front of Marc praying that he could remove the stripped screw which he did in like 20 seconds. He replaced the touchpad and my laptop is functioning fully again.
