Chicken tender and greasy fries
Colleen N.

The woman taking the order was so rude to start the experience then they hand us a pager. After 40 minutes of waiting (mind you they said 15 min) I went out to check. They said the pager must have been broken as they have been paging us. They handed us the cold food. The food was equivalent to food sitting under a heat lamp for hours.

There are various types of crimes, right? Crimes of passion. Crimes against humanity. And then…read morethere is this crime: A restaurant that is universally loved and acclaimed that has been a mainstay in Durham since 2019 (and survived the pandemic when others didn't) has to close their doors because the landlords are a bunch of greedy succubi that decided to double the restaurant rent from - not increase it, not negotiate it - but double it from $21 to $42 because this is Durham and Durham is blowing up. Now keep in mind, this isn't some cozy French bistro that seats three. This is a 4000 square foot establishment that probably seats about 70-80 people, I'm guessing. I spent the better part of three hours there the other night - I'm visiting from San Diego - and got to know Marquee (that is how you spell his name, OK?), Anthony, Christine (that may or may not be how you spell her name, OK?), and the owner, Lisa, and have never felt more saddened by, nor felt the love among them, so powerfully in just about any restaurant I've ever been to. This is truly a family affair. On a bittersweet note, they are still open until next Saturday, September 27 and you would be truly remiss not to stop by. And if you do, you'd be - how should I say this? - a loser if you don't try their buttermilk cheddar biscuits which are rhapsodic. The braised pork belly was inspired, too, served with their Carolina barbecue sauce and a wonderfully tangy purple and green slaw. I am truly fortunate to have caught them before things went south and feel honored to have not just met, but got to know, however slightly, the team behind Plum. Kudos, guys. And if the property landlords are reading this: You're homewreckers, have put people out work, robbed Durham of an extraordinary restaurant and are basically a bunch of assholes.

We made a reservation and were seated upon arrival. Our host was Anthony, I think his name was, with a keen interest for ginkgo trees. He was very attentive, friendly and extremely helpful. He took her order and had some good suggestions. I was craving shrimp and grits which was probably the most unique shrimp and grits. I've had ever. Very distinct flavor and still very rich and familiar. The shrimp were large and juicy as well as remained crunchy overall cooked very well. We also had the summer tomato and burata salad which was really refreshing and delicious. My friend ordered the mac and cheese which is a hefty serving size. Definitely a shareable side or a main for one person. Our host came to check on us frequently, our Waters never went empty. Other hosts were also helping check in on us which was nice. The restaurant itself is large. Booth tables available, which made for a cozy environment. We ended the night with some brownie a la mode, which was the perfect dessert to have on a hot summer day. Overall the experience was amazing, great food and incredibly nice people. Definitely Miss miss the southern hospitality of Durham. Definitely recommend a try here at plum Southern kitchen & bar.

Build your own sushi into a taco. If you've never had a hand-roll, it's like making a little taco with sushi filling. Wonderful flavors with notes of the wasabi, soy and furikake adding to the savory and spicy flavor of the dish. The Wok Broccolini with the chili garlic crisp was a wonderful kick to the slightly charred dish. The Ay papa were perfectly cooked potatoes with a white sauce with botanical notes of fresh vegetables. My favorite dish was the swordfish with puréed potatoes and a wonderful sauce adding to the grilled swordfish. Absolutely such a great entree to complete the meal. For dessert we had the capirotada and the puff pastry with two delicious ice creams. My absolute favorite was the Mexican puff pastry with the salted bourbon sauce. Wonderful restaurant and highly recommend for an enjoying evening.

Trust me, I've tried many pizzas in the area and always end up back at Hutchins garage. The perfect crust and the unique toppings lures me to try new pizzas every time. Some of the pizzas I have had the chance to enjoy include: eggplant, hot honey, spicy vodka, pizza bianca, mortadella and kale and fennel sausage. They were willing to make all of the pizzas vegetarian on request. The QR code actually made it very easy to replace toppings (you have to pay extra). The only pizza that I wasn't the biggest fan of was the kale and fennel sausage mostly because the lemon added a zest that wasn't needed in my opinion. Besides pizza, there's also a variety of beer, cocktails, salads and sizes. I usually stick to one of the cocktails and they never disappoint. The space is fairly large and when it is warm enough to sit outside, you will definitely find a spot to sit down. The service is fairly quick after you order via the QR code. I like to bring all my friends from out of town here because of how casual, quick and delicious it is.

Easy parking in the garage attached with complimentary credits provided by the restaurant nullifying the parking charge. Met Layla (pic) who let us knew she was fairly new but she had the menu down pat and her recommendations were spot on. Yes, we sat at the bar, ducking outside a couple times to catch a beautiful sunset. Started with the Goatcheese flatbread that was great even if a little light on the menu listed prosciutto. Moved onto the Gouda Croquettes that rival any you have had anywhere in the world! Next Crabcakes that were seared perfectly and all crab! Fries were as good as any in Belgium (if you haven't been to Belgium, well, take our word for it.). Sat on the outdoor patio; great scenery. Luckily it was a little overcast because in the bright sun it would have been too hot to enjoy. Our server, Sarah, did a great job. She described the drink and food menu in detail and pointed out great recommendations. Charming, funny, efficient and professional. Thank you! Pro tip - if they have branzino on the menu, order it. Sarah does a great job de-boning tableside. I'm disappointed that I didn't order it this time, so had to watch another table's presentation. It looked and smelled great! I ordered octopus a la plancha, a small plate. This is an octopus arm prepared perfectly - firm but not tough, grilled just right. It's served under fennel salad crispy fingerling potatoes and sauced with citrus vinaigrette. The tart vinaigrette is the foil for the earthy potatoes and octopus. Delicious. Crab cakes are huge. All crab - no filler - and seasoned to perfection, pan fried to golden brown. Prawns over polenta also fantastic. Prawns are huge (and 5 of them!), served with an array of veggies atop creamy polenta. Shrimp and grits on steroids! Herby spring rissoto is a great vegetarian choice. Creamy rissoto in a green pea puree is topped with veggies and a dollop of burrata. Excellent! Shout out to the corn ribs appetizer. Ears of corn are quartered long ways and prepared Mexican street corn style.
