Mr. V's is right off the Forest Glen Metra stop. Great way to call them on the train for pickup on the way. The pizza driver once waited on the Metra platform with a fresh pizza for the customer getting off the train. I saw the transaction taking place, as if it was a drug deal. Kinda funny. Their pizza is definitely worth trying. They have slices, so if you're far north on Elston Ave, it's worth driving by for a slice. They have good beef sandwiches too. Classic, neighborhood pizza and sandwich shop, has served Forest Glen and surrounding area for a generation or more. Their thin-crust pizza is what Chicago pizza means to me: fresh, hot-out-of-the-oven, home-made with that cracker-thin crust. You can also get great Italian beef here, dipped in jus with sweet peppers and spicy, hot Giardiniera. They actually have an extensive menu, including gluten-free and Sicilian-style pizza, pasta and other entrees, and desserts, ice cream, etc. I have only had their thin-crust pizzas and Italian beef sandwich, so I can't vouch for other options. Log story short: horrible delivery customer service. I placed an order with this restaurant at 8 pm, thinking I would try a new restaurant to deliver some pasta for dinner. It was expected to show up at 9:21. When 9:25 rolled around, I called the Mr. V's and a frazzled cashier answered the phone and I explained my situation and wanted a update on a delivery. Her response was that they were really backed up (at 9:30 on a Sunday) and that they just sent a delivery driver out with my food. I waited and stood in front of my window as the night was getting late and at 10:15, with no food delivered yet, I tried calling the restaurant again. Not knowing the hours, the restaurant was closed. I was pissed and now refuse to eat there from their shady customer experience and a no show of the food I ordered (from which I found that it's not worth the hype from the previous reviews) read more

We moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and we've really been struggling to find our go to places. Mr. V's was recommended by a long time resident of the area so we figured we should try it. I have ordered from there twice. Once was delivery and once was a pickup. Both times we ordered a double thick pizza (I'm not a thin crust fan) and LOVED it. Delivery took longer than our hungry bellies would have liked but it was a busy weekend night. The pickup was super smooth. I called when I was about 30 minutes from home and my piping hot pizza was waiting for me. We've also ordered the wings which my husband loves and the garlic bread which my kids ate up. Mr. V's has some of the best thin crust pizza I've had in Chicago. I order it "easy cheese" (less cheese) and extra sauce. I have never eaten in the restaurant as the ambiance is lacking, and I only live a couple blocks away. Also, I've never had their other menu items, just pizza. It's good! read more

I'm not reviewing what the actual place is like, since I've never stepped foot inside the strip-mall storefront(but have driven by this place every so often, mainly when I've had to do a trip to the nearby Elston DMV for something). Rather, I'm just only reviewing their thin-crust pizza I ate while at a friend's party, which I thought was pretty decent. I'd give Dino's Pizza a very slight edge over Mr V.'s for quality of their thin-crust, but I still liked their pizza. Their veggie pizza(among the 2 types of thin-crust I tried from here) was pretty good, and my favorite of the 2 I had. (also had their pepperoni pizza, but picked off the pepperoni, since I'm not a fan of pepperoni) After trying their pizza, I sorta wish now that the few times I've used the across-the-street Forest Glen Metra stop, that I did run into here at least once. Next time though when I need to again use that Metra stop, I definitely will make a stop here, as it seems like it could be a good place to stop at after returning into Chicago from an out-of-town train trip. I'd be up for possibly trying their thin-crust pizza 'easy cheese' style, or their crinkle cut fries, as other yelpers have noted about. read more

Ugh, the food here is pretty bad, which is unfortunate because it's right down the street from us. The pizza is just blah - so much so I don't really remember it. Worse, though, was the Italian beef that tasted like rubber - gross meat. I have to apologize to Mr. V's for NOT ordering food more often!!!! My family and I have been ordering from Mr. V's for over 20 years. However, I moved a little further away and haven't ordered in about 9 months. Needless to say, I was NOT disappointed!!! The pizza is still some of the best the city has to offer. (Especially the Thin Crust) You can really tell they use fresh ingredients in the pizza, and the Italian Sausage is great! Personally, I like the Mr. V's Special pizza. I was fortunate to discover this place, and I look forward to going back! Mr. V's Pizza looks like a standard, mini strip mall, greasy pizza joint from the outside, situated near some Metra tracks. When I first saw the place, I assumed that it was there because it's only one of two places to eat in the area and therefore, the food just fills you without leaving you wanting more. I was wrong. When you walk in you can tell that the place is run by a family who takes pride in their restaurant and spending time to prepare your food well. The menu also included items that I didn't think a normal grease spoon would have, like breaded scallops! I didn't have the opportunity to try those scallops but I did eat grab a slice of pizza and a soft drink. Initially, I was annoyed that my slice of pizza took 15 minutes to prepare, especially since I was with friends and we were in a rush to get somewhere. However, the long wait time made sense when the slice came out -- it was a slice of freshly prepared (French?) bread pizza! The slice was a nice big rectangle of tasty bread topped with sweet and tangy tomato sauce, and a good amount of sausage. The slice was also larger than I expected so I took some of it home! Despite all of the great pizza I've had in Chicago, I look forward to eating more of the unique pizza that Mr. V's has. Although next visit, I'll make sure to give myself enough time to sit down and enjoy the food. read more

It's cheap and worth every penny. Last time I ordered from here I had spaghetti and meatballs, traditional Italian fare. The spaghetti was overcooked and the sauce was very bland and flavorless, it was "marinara" meaning no meat and certainly no spices. I would have done better with a bottle of Ragu. The meatballs were smallish and made predominately with bread crumbs and not meat. I've ordered pizza from here before and stopped, pizza was salty and not good. read more

Used to love me V's, sent us wrong pizza, it took us an hour to realize as the portion that was supposed to be mine, had mushrooms and i detest them. The receipt shows they wrote it down correctly just baked it wrong. It took is an hour to realize because I had been in bed recovering. We called, cashier agrees to redo pizza but denied doing pizza wrong. Then cashier called back again saying to give back old pizza back because they didn't believe us that they messed up. So I called manager and said cancel order of new pizza and give us our money back, not even an apology. I wanted to like the pizza here, I really did. And maybe the other kinds are fine, but the pan pizza I had delivered was a nightmare. It was clearly undercooked, but I was hungry as heck and ate it anyway. At the time I probably would have given it a 2.5, but then ... well. It wrought some havoc on my digestive system. I'm not lactose intolerant or allergic to anything that goes into your standard pizza, and it was the only thing I ate for lunch and my sorrows started soon after, so, yeah. The delivery guy was nice, though. I'd praise them on it coming pretty quick, too, but that was clearly at expense of the pizza just not being cooked all the way. (Also: they deliver pizzas in a paper bag. What? Not a huge negative or anything, just really weird.) I'd recommend, uh ... anywhere else, really.
