I needed two tires replaced on my Mini Cooper. I previously called the Costco in Frederick but learned that they no longer carry my tire size. I called Mr Tire on a Thursday and within a five minute call I had an appointment set for the following Sunday at 10am. They did carry my size and told me the price of the tire and what brand of tire I could choose from. On Sunday I stopped by at 10 am. They were ready for me and asked if I'd like a couple additional options, including tire alignment and a type of warranty. I did not feel pressured at all to get any of these options. I headed out and got a call that my car was ready by 10:45. I picked up my car a couple hours later and everything was great! I looked over an itemized bill before paying for the tires. The tires were 275 with disposal fees and the service charge was around 60, so I paid a total of 350 for the new tires and service. Great deal and my car is ready to go! Scam artists. Several times I have taken deflated tires here and been told that they have a nail in them that went in sideways and thus couldn't be plugged. I've said thanks but no thanks, left, gone to a mechanic who has had no trouble plugging the tires. And the tires somehow, mysteriously, last for tens of thousands of more miles. Mt Airy Mr. Tire is in the business of lying and ripping people off. We were swindled out of almost $2,000 only to lliterally brake down on a dangerous stretch of 495 less than 10 hours after our repair was complete. We returned to Mr. Tire, no apology, no refund. I understand trying to up-charge an oil change into a list of things, and sometimes it's really needed. But leaving a plastic/rubberized tool on my trucks engine that would definitely melt is absolutely unprofessional. Being barely able to apologize is equally unprofessional. What if I was on a highway with my horses and this melted, smoked, or worse? They had no answer, and now they won't have our business. Buyer beware at Airy's Mr Tire! My son hit some debris on the highway that damaged his front left tire and it was beyond repair. He was on his way home and stopped at Mt Airy's Mr. Tire and bought a new tire. After a couple of weeks he noticed the tire was low and added air. He's busy working long hours so he continued filling it weekly and driving it with the slow leak. We replaced the valve in the valve stem and that didn't work. Finally we took it off the car this weekend to have a look and immediately saw that it had a plug in a new tire!!! Of course this is where the leak was so we pulled the plug out and put in a new one and so far so good. This a double hit on Mt Airy Mr Tire: First, it's a local shop that you'd think would have the integrity to serve the community they do business in, but they knowingly sold a tire as new that actually was used and had a plug in it - you could say that is criminal. 2nd, when they plugged the tire before selling it to us and they weren't even competent enough to plug it right and verify it wasn't leaking. We would have gone up there and confronted them but with the elapsed time and we didn't keep the receipt so you know how that conversation would have gone. Live and learn, not all tire shops out there are reputable, back in 2016 another local Mt Airy tire shops had several employees busted for selling heroin on the job (google mt airy tire shop heroin arrest). You just don't know who you're doing business with these days. We usually use our car dealership (Shockley) for all repairs and tires, they've always been trustworthy and if something isn't right they'll make it right. read more

I had a coolant issue driving from Baltimore to Ohio. I knew I had an issue when I saw a leak as I got gas 60 miles into my drive. I came into this shop today on a recommendation of a random mechanic who was very sweet and just couldn't get me in their shop 5 miles back on I-68. He used to work for them so of course, I go to the last place I want to; a commercial shop. Two of the three men treated me like I did not matter at all. I was on my way to another state with a huge coolant issue on the interstate and I come to you to just tell me what is happening. I literally just wanted it looked at. I realize there is a ton of appointments with a commercial establishment like this, so I didn't expect to be seen soon. One hour and a half later, no one said anything to me. I'm on the interstate and I literally just want my car to be looked at. It takes 10 minutes. I started googling places nearby and the shop down the street was fine with immediately seeing my car. They diagnosed and repaired my car within 2 hours. It was a radiator issue and they did not charge me for the pressure diagnostic which the fellow from Mr Tire insisted on charging me $40+ before looking at it. read more

March 2, 2020 I took a 2004 Acura TSX to Mr. Tire Mt Airy for a state inspection.  Prior to me buying it, it was maintained by the dealer. It is in like new condition. Bad experience.  i dropped off the car Sunday. They called me Monday to let me know that it failed inspection for the "3rd" brake light bulb being out.  It is the one that is at the rear window.  I went over the car well before bringing it there.  Made sure all the lights were working, but I might have missed checking the "3rd" brake light.  Checked the brake pads, more than 30%. While on the phone I asked them how much would it cost to have them replace the bulb to save me a trip back and forth. I was quoted "$151, including the inspection".  I then asked, "if the Inspection is a little over $90, your are charging $60 to change a bulb, doesn't that seem a little steep?  Guy on the phone, "it is rather involved and we need to take a lot apart to get to it.  It is billed for 3/4 of an hour"  Me:  "I'll do it my self and bring it back" I brought a bulb with me.  There is more hard sell to the story, but to keep this simple.  I went outside to the car, popped the trunk.  Right at the roof of the trunk was the 3rd Brake light socket.  No tools needed- just a twist. I swapped out the burnt bulb and put the new one in in less than 45-seconds.  I walked back into the store, no more than 90 seconds latter, and asked if i could get the car re-inspected.  Mechanic: "What, did you brink your own bulb?" Me: yes, its fixed and should pass inspection. I do not mind paying a fair price for service, but charging $60 (3/4 of an hour labor) for a bulb replacement that took me 45 seconds is crazy.  I would have paid $10 to keep it simple. I got the bulbs for $3 each. I have to question their ethics. I am sure there are a lot of people out there that would pay the $60 and trust "their mechanic" to do what is right. My Husband took my BMW in for service for a flat tire at the Mt Airy, MD 21771 Mr. Tire last week (week of 1/10/22). They never called us to tell us the tires they ordered were in. When my husband finally called and was told they were in, he took the car in. When he went to pay, there was a laundry list of charges on the invoice, which he previously declined, that they tried to sneak in. They also said there was fee for alignment - even though the website offers free alignment. After the tires were installed, I drove the car for the first time on 1/13. I immediately noticed the car pulling to the left. I am recovering from a double mastectomy for breast cancer and my arms are very stiff. This pulling makes it very uncomfortable for me to drive. No one else has driven my car since my surgery and I know what it should feel like. I immediately called and they set us back up for an appointment at 11am on 1/15. My husband took the car back and they told us it would be hours before they could look at the car. Not sure why I bothered to make an appointment. Finally, hours later they called and said there was nothing they could do. This is ridiculous and the worst service I have ever experienced. They clearly messed up the alignment and will not take responsibility or correct the issue. read more

Unbelievable. I don't think I've ever dealt with a store more incompetent that this local Mr. Tire location. I recently had a car in to get the tires replaced. While in the shop, one of the mechanics broke off a plastic chrome piece on one of my switches. When I returned to the shop, the manager who came out to look at it actually PEELED THE REST OFF. After talking to the Market Manager, he informed me that this is "normal wear and tear". So you're trying to tell me that after nearly 65k miles, a piece magically goes from completely intact to broken in a matter of FEET? He told me to call customer service, which is how I had to get in touch with him. Why would the second time I call be any different? He just kept on repeating "There's nothing I can do." Business should be willing to go above and beyond to satisfy their customers, and Mr. Tire just isn't willing to do that. In fact, they do the opposite by driving people away. I had been taking our cars to the Mt. Airy location for the past few years but I'll explain why I won't be going back. My son had a flat and damaged tire. The donut spare was put on and later replaced with a new tire. A few days later my son moved with the car to LA and after a few days there discovered that the donut spare was missing from the trunk. Next example: my daughter had a tire replaced and noticed a month later when she had occasion to go into her trunk to see her donut spare was missing. I told Mr. Tire about this and they had no idea what happened to the two donut spares. On another car, they failed to replace the full sized spare into its storage location underneath another vehicle and did not properly inflate the new tire. Lesson here: CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR DONUT SPARE AND FOR THAT MATTER, ANY TIRE YOU WANT RETURNED IS IN YOUR VEHICLE. Don't take their word that tires are properly inflated regardless of what you're told. Compare prices locally. They are not the only tire store in town. Hopefully your car will be returned with all of your property intact. Replacing missing donut spares alone has wiped out any savings I might have had. Be aware! read more

The good - they are open 7 days a week and have plenty of weekend availability. The bad - pay attention to the estimate vs. the actual bill. "oops, the computer calculated it and forgot to remove the extra charges that you declined". After telling them that the computer is only as smart as the person inputting the numbers, they had no response, not even an apology. I was also told that the van needed an alignment because they come unaligned from the factory. My old tires were not worn unevenly and there was only 60k on the vehicle. I drive a company vehicle and am sure all they saw were dollar signs. I will only be back for free tire rotations and maybe an oil change if I am desperate. I went in for an alignment and was told $110. Waited an hour and when they had the car jacked up came and told me it would be an extra $160 to do the camber and caster. "Gross incompetence" is how I would describe today's experience. I made an online reservation, which included my vehicle details and the tires I wished to purchase. I received an email confirmation with that info. Shortly thereafter, I received a request to reschedule for later in the day - they needed time to have the tires shipped from their warehouse to this location. Done, and received an updated confirmation. Arrived, and the counter clerk kept pulling up data from my previous vehicle. After a bunch of questions, I asked "Do you have my reservation info?" He responded "yes, it's right here." He then informed me that he didn't have the tires I wanted in stock, but had others. WtF? I'm left considering - a) the tire data was lost in the reschedule b) the tires were sold to another customer c) they never intended to get the tires, but are playing bait-and-switch upsell games. I now agree with the other negative reviews...have used them for years and thought they were straight shooters until my daughter came home with a $64 bill-- after I sent her in with the $14.99 oil change post card they sent me specifically for her car! Upon inspection, I see that they used synthetic oil, therefore, the $50 difference. She said they told her that is what she had before so she unknowingly agreed. When I called to ask why they did this, they kept repeating that it was the same as the last time. I asked why she was ever told she should have synthetic oil to begin with! They did not have an answer. The manager, Peter Clement, was not available yesterday, so I phoned him today. He repeated the same thing and said he was not there when she first came in with the car so he couldn't speak to that. NO apology, no "I understand your frustration," No "Let us fix this"---nothing. Mr. Tire installed new brakes on my Mazda 2 years ago. Within a year, the brake rotors were warped. They resurfaced the rotors under warranty. One year later, the rotors are warped yet again, only this time they are too thin to resurface and must be replaced to the tune of $300. If I can expect the same lifespan out of the new rotors, then no thanks. Given this experience, I question the quality of the parts Mr. Tire uses. My original brake rotors lasted 75,000 miles without warping issues. How is it the rotors Mr. Tire installed could not even last half of that? read more

I took my car in because my brakes were squeaking. They said the brakes were ok by I needed new tires. I bought recommended tires from them and they constantly are losing air. Every 2 months the tire sensor goes off. I took them to Stups in Frederick and they said I needed new brakes (no more squeaking and better stopping) after they fixed the brakes which cost less than another estimate. Was quoted one price for an oil change. $29.99 Was charged $9 more. I was told this was because we didn't have a coupon when I was not told we were supposed to have a coupon. Then the story changed and it became well that's what they charged for disposing of oil. Was told that they are told to quote $29.99. This is deceptive advertising. They were quite rude and ended up hanging up on me when I got upset. Don't go there. Also I'm in the car smells like fumes and one of my windshield wipers was broken. Wish I'd seen these ratings before buying my tires through them. Needed replacements badly and we were leaving town, so when I happened on them and they were able to get them in the next day I jumped at the chance. Next day, when they called to say the tires were in, I made an APPOINTMENT to come in later that morning. When I arrived they told me it would be about an hour wait time, maybe another half hour for the alignment, too. I had to wait so sat and sat. After an hour, I walked outside to get warmed up as their AC was cranked up to the max and it was shivering chilly in the enclosed waiting room. I was shocked to see that my car was still in the spot where I'd parked it an hour earlier. I went to the desk to ask what was going on. After going out to check on it, the desk agent came back to say my car was in the bay for the work. I pointed out it wasn't just 2 mins earlier when I walked outside. It is now, he said, your key was just being grabbed off the hook as the next one to be worked. I waited close to another hour before the car was done and I was called to check out. I mentioned that there was something wrong with their work queuing, as it appears they run strictly by first come-first served and do not prioritize customers who are waiting--and who have appointments!! I have used this location in the past with great results, so when the family SUV needed tires I booked a reservation online. Giving man email address was optional, so I did not. When we arrived there, we went to check in. They did not have a reservation. Fellow behind the counter asked if I'd gotten an email, and I explained to him that I did not give one. He was pretty rude about that. I let him know that I did leave a phone number and that I had no messages about anything. Even after stating that they have problems with the reservation system often, he was always dismissive of the reservation. After asking what we needed, I was told that the tires that I had booked were discontinued and that they had nothing in that size except for the most expensive ones that they carry. There was a sister location (Treadquarters) about 1/4 of a mile away. They had a similar model. He started doing the paperwork and asked if an appointment 4 hours later was ok. The rest of the day was pretty booked and I told him that wasn't an option, and that's why I had booked that time slot for an appointment. At this point I stepped outside and called the sister location to see if they were an option. They couldn't have been more welcoming. I explained the situation, we drove over and were taken care of immediately. Auto repair is an industry of trust and customer service. I had been very loyal to this location, but it was very obvious from that encounter that the customer was not their priority any longer. If you are looking for a place that values their customer and works with them, stay away from this location. read more

I usually only go to my uncle's shop but he was too busy this time and I needed an oil change and tire rotation desperately. Well I was in luck because they were able to squeeze me in which was a surprise in these days and times. Being able to get an appointment so soon was awesome. It was a great service from the minute I was greeted on the phone to the time that I checked out. My tiers were perfectly balanced and my car is running smooth after her oil change. I have tried places other than my uncle's shop before but I have had bad experiences even with something so simple but obviously these guys know what they are doing. This location also has a great manager who does a good job making sure the town is happy with their service. I will be coming here from now on which is a big change for me since I usually only go to family and drive over an hour just for an oil change and tire rotation. read more

I have had work done by This Mr. Tire for many years in the past and Its good that they are open 7 days a week, but, I just got my car repaired on July 6, 2018 - the repair was good, but they had my car for 6 days and quoted me 432.00 on the phone but when they did not call me for any additional charge and waited for me to call them- they said the cost was 550.00. OK, this place is the worst. First, I will take partial responsibility for choosing to come here in the first place (after a similar experience years ago). However, I had a coupon for brake service and when I called for an estimate the price was reasonable. I had recently had my car serviced/inspected at the dealership I bought it from and they told me that I would need to replace my rear brake pads soon. If I waited too long, I would have to replace the rotors (to be expected). So, I called a few places and was told by Mr. Tire that they could replace the rear brake pads on my car for $175 (which included parts and labor). On Monday, I brought my car in. They told me it should take about an hour and they would call me. Well, the power went out in Mount Airy. After almost two hours I decided to go back in. My car was sitting in the same spot and hadn't been looked at. This is understandable, considering the power was out. My issue with this? No one called me because, "The phones aren't working." I'm pretty sure everyone owns a cell phone and I know for a fact that my cell phone number was circled on both of the service papers I had signed 2 hours prior. What were they going to do? Never call me and hope I came back eventually? The next day, they called me to reschedule. I made an appointment for 2:00. Before I left my car there and I asked to review the services for the day. (I had initially wanted to get a tire changed as well, but thought better of it and called to cancel in the morning. This was not updated in the computer.) About two hours later they called me to let me know that the estimate for my car would be about $480 including new rotors... Um, what? My knowledge of cars is limited and I didn't want to be manipulated, so I had them call my dad. It turned out that I didn't NEED new rotors, but my car MIGHT still squeak when I brake if I don't get new rotors. So, when I asked the guy if it would be unsafe to drive with the existing rotors he said, "No, but it might still squeak when you brake." OK, so if it's not unsafe don't replace them. Thanks for the hustle though, I appreciate it. All in all, my total came to $275. Including my coupon. So I really didn't save any money and I had to deal with all of that in the process. They will replace the brakes for free in the future (excluding labor costs), but I highly doubt I will be going back in ever again. Also, I didn't appreciate the front desk employee telling me the total cost and requesting payment without even showing me the service report so that I could review it. When I asked about certain charges, he attempted to explain, but ended up awkwardly mumbling and pointing until another staff member came over (because he had no clue). Awesome. As other reviewers have mentioned, the front desk staff members are dismissive. The guy I dealt with on all four occasions failed to remember who I was at any given time within two days. Fine, whatever, you deal with a lot of people, but at least give it a shot. I shouldn't have to give run through the same spiel and be greeted with a blank stare four times. I got a flat on Tuesday driving home and a friend recommended Mr. Tire for replacements. I made one online the following day and stopped in to go over all the details. Come to find out I needed much more work done on my car than just rear replacement tires, which was already an unexpected cost. The kindness, patience and thoughtful attitude we were met with from Nick was beyond what I'd expect from a repair shop. He helped us work thru what parts we would need and how long it would take to get everything and the work completed. I had both children with me and as wild as they were in the show room, he never flinched. The work was completed within one day and my car is driving great. While we didn't expect to put this much work or money into this car, I'm so glad we chose Mr. Tire in Mount Airy to have it done. They have easily gained a return customer!! read more

They have several reviews - good and bad. I was having a trailer tire delivered there to be installed on a wheel. Dropped the wheel off at about 9am. The tire was delivered by FedEx at 10.30. Called them at 2pm to see when I could pick the tire up. Kevin said it will take several more hours. I only wanted the tire mounted - no balance or stem change. You would think they could work in one tire mount in a 3 hours. Evidently they were going to wait until the end of the day. Closing was at 8pm. I went to Mr Tire at 3pm and picked up my wheel and tire and found another location that would change it for me in 20 minutes. They actually did it in 10 minutes. I was going out of town early the next day and needed a spare tire and did not want to install it in the dark. They seem to be busy, so, do not go there if you need service in a few hours. read more

They matched the prices on Tire Rack! You will need to bring in the print out of the pricing. The only negative was that Tire Rack offered free road hazard coverage with the tires but, I didn't have that specified on the print out to prove it. I should have printed out the web page with the tire listings as well. The person at the counter said that he would check into it but, I'm not positive that he did. So, I didn't purchase the $60 road hazard warranty. On the bright side, my tires were done within 40 minutes! That's gotta be a record! The staff was friendly read more

Made an appointment in the morning to get my car checked out. Waited 3 hours and the car still hadn't moved from where I parked it. The front desk seemed more concerned about their lunch break and talking back to customers than actually taking care of them. When someone says it will take 1-2 hours, at least have the courtesy to tell me up front that it will take longer instead of letting me sit there and wait... Not happy. read more

I went to Mr. Tire in Mount Airy, MD to get a new set of four tires recently. Although my overall experience was ok, I did notice the poor customer service that others here have commented on. The man answering the phone (audible to everyone in the shop), was short and rude to the customers he talked to, and had something derogatory to say after almost every call ended. A friend of the family got a flat tire while in town earlier this year, and was treated very rudely by a staff person when he called about getting the tired fixed. It seems that the person/people answering the phone here need a major attitude adjustment. Another customer came in while I was ringing out to file a claim for damage to his vehicle that happened while his car was at the shop. The litany of insults and curses that came out of the employees' mouths when the guy left was extremely off-putting. One has to wonder what they say about each and every customer the second you step out the door. As for my experience, make sure you know the details of everything before you go in, and be prepared to say "no" to unnecessary services. The Mr. Tire website was misleading about a promotional Goodyear rebate - not the fault of this particular location, but worth noting. The Mr. Tire site makes you believe the rebate will be much higher than it really is. Even the Goodyear website is crystal clear about the details. The price Mr. Tire quotes on the website is misleading - note that it only includes an alignment *check*, not the actual alignment. Of course, their check will always turn up an issue, so you'll be paying for an alignment for sure, and they won't bother calling you before doing the alignment to make sure you want that service. The guy I talked to when I dropped off the car said my tires have automatic tire pressure sensors, which I should replace at $12 per tire. I don't have these sensors. I know that for a fact because a) I read my owners manual and b) I'm not always good about checking my tire pressure, and I've /never/ seen that warning light on my car. I doubt I'll come back to this store again. I thought I'd save a little money over my regular shop since this chain must get huge volume pricing discounts, and presumably pass the savings onto the customer. However, based on how I've seen other customers treated, I'd rather spend a little more at my trusted local shop to reward the folks who aren't jerks. read more

I always bring my cars in here to get work done and have always had a great experience. I brought my car in on a Sunday morning for a flat tire repair and tire rotation and had my car back in 45 minutes. Now that won't always be the case here and I would suggest making an appointment before coming here, but they are usually pretty quick. The people at the desk are nice and try to help you out and try to explain to you everything that you can get done to your car and such.
