I found this place online while working in Farmington Hills. It was a bit of a drive to pickup for lunch, but SO worth it. The food was always delicious and made exactly as requested. (I'd go back and forth between Pad Thai, Basil Fried Rice, and Drunken Noodles. I tried a sweet treat that was on display during one of my pickups and enjoyed that, too.) The restaurant was pickup only by the time I discovered it, so I never really had a chance to experience the service or ambiance. Mr. Thai is a good spot for no-nonsense Thai takeout in Northville, MI. Ordering by phone is easy, and the location has tons of parking (it's located in a strip mall in Northville). I believe they are currently doing Curbside pickup, but no-dine in as of my last visit. Food quality is solid, and the value for the money is decent as well. The fried dumplings were good, crab rangoon was mediocre, but the curry chicken Pad Thai was spectacular. I'd definitely recommend you get the highest spice level if you can tolerate spice, it's the perfect level of heat without being uncomfortable and unbearable. I'm a frequent customer and obviously like the food, convenient and tasty, Thai food is coconut, vegetables and spice though I've not been to Thailand. I like the curry fried rice, all the soups, sucker for garlic chicken and wife gets the pad Thai. Spice level is tricky...Thai must use peppers in the base recipes so I now bounce from mild to mild plus and that's enough for me. I'm thankful they are in Northville. read more

I hate giving restaurants bad reviews but I have to in this case. I went to Mr. Thai for lunch. While there was a couple booths, there was no in restaurant dining. So I ordered some takeout and was really disappointed in what I got. I got an order of spring rolls that were absolutely flavorless and the hot sour soup tasted like cooking oil. I ordered two entrées as I usually do when I go to Thai because I like to have leftovers. The Thai fried rice with chicken tasted like nothing but heat. I ordered it medium by the way. It was also very flavorless. I ended up adding the little bit of sweet-and-sour sauce I had to it to try to tone down the heat and give it some flavor and it just didn't work. There was also hardly no chicken in it by the way. I also ordered the Pad Prik King with chicken which I get it every time restaurant I go to a Thai restaurant. In every case it is always check in with string beans. I don't know if they messed up my order or watt but it had a little bit of chicken with string beans, but also green and red peppers which it did not say in the menu, and I have never had served that way. Again, ordered medium but tasted like nothing but heat , while at the same time being quite flavorless. The entire meal was over $50 for two Thai entrées and an order of spring rolls and it was by far the worst Thai food I've ever ate. I'm sorry Mr. Thai. You really need to step up your game. The interior is clean and the menus are compressed in the glass tables (so, you're starring at the table to read). I tried two dishes from their lunch menu Veggie Pad Cashew & Pad Bi Ka Prow. Both dishes came with a small cup of hot & sour soup which was on the bland side (at least for me). The Veggie Pad Cashew only had a few cashews which was a disappointment but was otherwise a fairly decent dish. The Pad Bi Ka Prow had the nice fragrant taste of basil but was otherwise unremarkable. The 3.5 rating for Mr. Thai is pretty appropriate. Three dinners, a side of soup, and an appetizer ran $42 before delivery and tip. Others here have said they don't have a delivery charge, but I guess they've changed that, because it's $3 now. We (me, my sister, and her boyfriend) ordered at about 7:30 on a Saturday night and got our food almost an hour later. When ordering on the phone, the guy on the other end spoke slowly and seemed to be very meticulous so as to not make a mistake, which I'd normally find a bit irritating, but given what others have said about them messing some things up, I was alright with it. Turns out, nothing in our orders was messed up. I had the drunken noodles and thought they were pretty tasty. The menu says they have jalapenos in them, but mine didn't -- which turns out to be a good thing, because as others have said, the medium heat level is really pretty spicy, and I love spicy food. I really can not imagine eating hot comfortably at all. So, make your spice level one down of what you'd expect. The crab rangoons were actually some of the better ones I've had anywhere, so that was a pleasant surprise. Again though, the menu says they have celery, but I didn't see or taste celery at all in them. The Tom Kha seemed to be loaded with coconut milk, so it was heavy and artery clogging... but delicious! While I've still yet to find drunken noodles that are better than Hot Pepper Thai in Waterford, these ones are still very good. The chicken at Mr. Thai seems to be unseasoned and possibly even frozen (very slight strange flavor to them), it was cooked fine. Being one of the (if not the only) delivery options in the area that isn't pizza, I can see myself ordering something from here again. read more

My family and I visited Mr. Thai for the first time last night! What a great find. Food and service were terrific. Being the first time, we tried all te basics - Pad Thai, Satay, Tum Yum, Masaman. The Tum Yum is one of the best we have had around the USA. Satay was good; the Pad Thai was average and the Masaman was good. What I look forward to is eating some of their wonderful specialties. I would highly recommend this over New Bangkok in Northville. Aside from a far more friendly personality (sorry New Banagkok your staff has gotten too arrogant!) and the food is better. Although some of New Bangkoks dishes are better - i.e. Pad Thai. I hope the location does not kill this great restaurant. If you Thai food lovers want to keep it alive, let's get the word out! I have been coming to this place since they first opened. Hands down, Mr. Thai is THE best place for Pad Thai. I have tried Pad Thai so many different places and always come back to Mr. Thai. Their Pad Thai has a sweetness to it that other places lack. It's so good! They also use better rice noodles. The portions are always large. The service is always friendly. My order is always ready in a timely fashion. Their Crab Rangoon and Panang Curry are also delicious! The only thing I wish is that I could find them on DoorDash, GrubHub, or UberEats. I live about 20 minutes away and wish they delivered to my area! If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend that you do! (Oh - and watch your spice level. They don't mess around there. The tables were unusual because they were made of glass and the menus were on a platform underneath the table. I guess it saves space and they don't have to keep handing them out for each customer. I've only had their pad thai and green curry but both are deeeelicious. The green curry uses fresh thai/sweet basil and there were big pieces of fresh cilantro in the pad thai. Fresh spices are always good to see :) I was hoping for some dishes with some kaffir lime leaf or holy basil in them but I'm probably asking too much for the location. Northville's new alternative too the death grip New Bangkok has had on the town for 10 years. Reading all the positive reviews I decided too give it a try for take out lunch. I ordered the generic Pad Thai, Pad Kra Tiem (Garlic stir-fry), and the Pad See-Ew. All lunches come with Hot and Sour soup, an added bonus! The Pad Thai and Pad See-Ew were pretty good. The price and the portions were reasonable and generous respectively. My only small complaint was the similarity in taste, but they are basically the same thing anyway. I always go for something different every time I go out too a Thai restaurant. I love everything about Thai food and am always looking for a new favorite dish. The garlic stir-fry was lacking in both garlic and original flavor. Similar to a sweet soy and chili sauce. The dish consisted of meat and tofu pieces with no veg what so ever. A generous helping of very tasty sticky rice made up for the small portion of the main dish. I enjoyed my food and will go back again for the Pad Thai or curry dish.
