Quesabirria tacos with consommé, salsa verde and a side of chips and salsa
    James J.

These birria tacos are some of the best I've ever had. The beef is so tender and flavorful with melted cheese, fresh cilantro and white onions in a flour tortilla dipped in the delicious consommé and fried. Only on the menu on Wednesdays, these tacos would be the end of me if I could have them 7 days a week. A coworker picked them up for me so I can't speak towards the service or ambiance. Is it next Wednesday yet?

Just discovered Mr Tequila while exploring Freret Street and I was impressed! We wondered in after 6pm on a weekday and quickly found a seat at the bar as happy hour was kicking off. As we ordered other locals also arrived seeking their favorite tables. On this visit, we kept it simple and ordered drinks and several appetizers to share. We enjoyed Queso, Tamales and LOADED Chicken Fajitas Nachos that defied expectations in every way. Serious we loved these Fajita Nachos so much we plan to visit again just for another taste. Hopefully next time we visit Mr. Tequila we will try more of the menu, but from what we had a taste of we have fallen in love with this place and recommend for couples seeking a date night and small group get togethers.

Poof that the offer was available!

If you want to eat at a place where the manager yells at you. You've found the right place. Order a delivery order and had a promotion for buy one Get on free. After the oder was paid for, it magically wasn't available anymore. After trying to nicely speak with him about it. He yelled at us and said we wouldn't be get the food we ordered and then hangs up on us. Definitely will never oder here again.

Melted mango margarita.. two thumbs down.

One of many restaurants on Freret that I have been meaning to try. My friend and I decided on this place bc we both love great tacos. One of our other friends told us this place had "decent" tacos but we decided to go anyway. Lol Wasn't very crowded but the service was soooo SLOW. I mean snails pace..guacamole was good. We ordered frozen mango margaritas. The waiter dropped off 2 obviously melted drinks. Not sure why he thought this was ok. It was very apparent these were not frozen yet. Had to send them back..he wasn't apologetic. Just brought us new ones quite a while later. Tacos, rice and beans were good, but not redeeming enough for a return visit. Sorry to say.

This review is based on the lunch we have at this place. They do have some lunch specials fromm 11 to 3pm which are affordable. We got a chicken quesadilla lunch which included a medium size quesadilla, rice and refried beans plus Pico. It was super tasty and the right amount of food for lunch. The lunch itself was $13 which wasn't bad. They give you free chips with salsa and I must say they were pretty good! We have been to other Mexican restaurants and the chips are not usually fresh. For free chips they were pretty awesome. We also order some churros for dessert which comes in a set of 4 churros, ice cream and caramel sauce. The combo was pretty good. Would I recommend this place again, absolutely!

Came here on Mardi Gras Tuesday and got seated after a short wait with a group of 10! The servers were really nice and we got a ton of free salsa and nachos to munch on as our food came. Good: I really liked my taco salad as well as the enchilada trio that I shared with my friend - the flavor is really good and portion sizes are huge here so we didn't finish what we got in the end. The margarita tower was also super large and a good value - we got 2 of them for our group of 10 and the mango and king cake flavors were my favorites. Bad: The food arrives pretty slowly so you'll have to wait some time for your food to get there. I thought the queso was just alright from my perspective. Overall I really enjoyed my experience and would come again! It's a fun casual vibe so not super fancy but the food is cheaper than some fancier establishments around it.

Very good Mexican food! The queso dip passed my taste test. Enough spice and not watered down. I went with a friend who is a regular there so we had great service. Casual comfortable location on Freret.

Spending so much time in New York, I've probably had better, but the food here is still good. This is a small chain (NOLA, Metairie, Baton Rouge, West Palm Beach), outfitted with neon, murals, and pink flowers. The menus are high tech and light up when you open them. We started with the queso fundido, with melted mozzarella, chorizo, pico de gallo, and microgreens. Comes with corn or flour tortillas. It was cheesy and tasted great. They also provide chips and a flight of three salsas. Salsas all had completely different flavors and spice levels, so I enjoyed that. Other options are guacamole (with or without short rib), plain queso dip, short rib bites, and oysters rockefeller. Selections include various tacos. I had the birria tacos, which are served in a dramatic fashion, hanging from a line over the tray, which contained the consomme, salsas, rice, and refried beans. They were juicy and savory and the accompaniments hit the spot. Though I've probably had better birria elsewhere . . . not sure you'll find any better or authentic anywhere in New Orleans. My husband had the fish tacos (ensenada), crispy and covered in cilantro, payo, pickled cabbage, avocado, and pico de gallo. The fish was light and the pickled slaw added just the right amount of brightness and acidity. They also have mushroom tacos, chicken, bone marrow wagyu, carnitas, shrimp, and more. They serve larger main dishes including fajitas, carne asada, barbacoa, burritos, enchiladas, and more. They have a great drink menu with the expected margaritas and mezcal as well as some fancy specialty drinks. I has the Hasta el Agua Del Florero, which is vodka, bombay, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and watermelon syrup. It was good, but also 20 dollars. The margaritas of course come a little cheaper at 13 bucks and are decent. Some people complained about service. It wasn't busy when we stopped in, but our server stayed on top of things, the table was always bussed, he kept checking to make sure everything was to our liking. We had no server issues at all. Not sure this would be the top of my list to try of all the choices in New Orleans, but not a bad choice if you're in the mood for a Taco Tuesday or some Mexican chow.

Fresh seafood from the Gulf of MEXICO and a wicked drink menu. They offer several ceviches. We had the crispy cauliflower served with tempura, cashew habanero crema, garbanzo hash, and chimichurri. Loads of flavor and just the right bite size for tapas/apps. Plates include churrasco, fish and grits, paella (can be served veggie or without shellfish if you're allergic), lamb, Yucatan style pork, shrimp or steak mofongo, and chicken poblano. I had the churrasco, served with papas bravas. Steak cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. My husband had the steak mofongo and the beef tips, like the churrasco, were seasoned perfectly. The plantain mash was sweet and somehow savory at the same time. We loved both dishes. They make mean margaritas and caipirinhas hre, and also offer drinks like the paloma, the Bolivian sour, sangria, and specialty drinks. Service was amazing. She was so upbeat and helpful. This restaurant was a little slow when we went. It deserves a lot more love. It's so close to the touristy part of the French Quarter. Leave the gimmicky spots and come here, you won't regret it.
