Well, I haven't made it to your fine establishment yet but my how about if my girlfriend and I join you?

The restaurant has a rustic ambience. About 10 tables and the bar. The waitress was very accommodating and friendly. The food was good. We had a traditional breakfast. Husband had grits which he said were very smooth and buttery. I had eggs over easy but the Yolk's were too hard for my liking. The pecan smoked bacon had such a great flavor and not too salty. Enjoyed that. The home fried were nice and crispy not oily. The coffee was fine. We will go again and try something different. Hometown local feeling. Bon appetito! read more

We enjoy visiting Mr Rivers for brunch. The staff is great. The food today was delicious. My husband had his usual Farmers breakfast with a side of sausage gravy. We are kind of picky about our gravy; always comparing to "mom's" gravy. These guys are pretty close. I ordered something different for me. The ham with red eye gravy over grits and biscuit was very good. My taster generally is not into overly salty food. It seemed fitting this ham was salty though. The grits are creamy and blend well with the thin "gravy". Very traditional southern dish done well. read more

Terrible!!! The waitress was awful very rude waited for 30 min for food and told forgot the place order will take another 20 min.

Food was delicious! Went in the morning on a weekday. Service was good. Food was out fairly quickly and tasted fresh. Had black coffee, it was good too! read more

Fantastic breakfast spot in Downtown Anderson. Food was excellent and service was quick and polite. The building has lots of character, which added to the overall experience. We will certainly have breakfast there on the next trip to Anderson. read more

Met a friend here for breakfast and had one of the best frittatas I have had... I will admit that you can get good eggs and grits at many places... These folks seem to be a cut above the average breakfast place. Nice folks, clean, excellent food that's well prepared. If you are looking for breakfast, I recommend this... read more

The ambiance is shwae here, but the employees seem absolutely miserable. The frittata was delicious, with the perfect amount of spice and flavor. The biscuits however were dryer than my dad's skin in the winter. Not to mention, the food took unusually long to come out. read more

Maybe it was an off day, based on other reviews. I was super excited for the fried dough, but it was definitely overcooked. The outside was about 3x thicker than it should be, almost crunchy. I ate two and left the rest. For my breakfast, I decided on the sausage gravy and biscuits. The potatoes were pretty bland. The biscuits were just like grandma used to make, dry and tasteless. The real star, actually the only star, of this meal was the sausage gravy. They knocked it out of the park with this. Just a little bit of spice, plenty of sausage in the gravy... I could eat a bowl of this by itself. Staff was friendly, and I loved the location. read more

We were terribly disappointed. The service was horrible. The food was cold. It was nasty and waitresses couldn't be bothered to take your order. We were there 1 1/2 hours before they closed and left after they closed the door. That is too slow! Why would anyone recommend this place! There are so many better places in town. You won't see us again. read more

Place was packed and i know why. Food was great. Staff was friendly and checked in frequently to make sure we were ok.

The food was delicious. The service was amazing. And it was such a fun place to have a girly breakfast.

A much-needed breakfast joint. Most of the ingredients they said are local farms, etc. Most of the things I've tried are very well done. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because sometimes things are over seasoned when it comes to salt. Mr. Rivers is a great place to try especially since it's competition the Eggs Up Grill has gotten more expensive,, they have change the recipes, using cheaper ingredients or just plain removed some of the customers favorites. My money will be going to Mr. Rivers in the future. read more

Don't get me wrong, the inside of this breakfast joint is indubitably adorable. However, our waitress was in a bit of a mood which took away from the experience. I got the bacon, egg and cheese on a homemade biscuit & was disappointed. The biscuit was so dry I ended up eating just the egg, bacon, and cheese. Good vibes, just don't get a biscuit! read more

What an amazing hip atmosphere! Lots of college students. Very clean and they are following all Covid protocols! Service was AMAZING! The wait staff gets 10 stars! I have been hearing rave reviews about Mr Rivers Breakfast and we wanted to try something new. The menu has a brunch style feel to it. Very creative and different. The menu supports local businesses and offers unique flare! I love that! My hubby ordered the sausage biscuits & gravy w grits. Grits were creamy and delightful! Sausage gravy was very runny and biscuits were very dense. I ordered the Pineapple Upside Down mimosa. Delightful and tasty! The drink had the cherry laying on the bottom of the glass! So cute! I ordered the Chicken n Biscuits w gravy and potatoes. Chicken was overly crispy, a bit hard. The outer crust had that burnt char flavor and was way to salty for me. Gravy was thick and creamy, but there wasn't enough to soak into the dense dry biscuits. The potatoes were hard, unseasoned and seemed like they were refried before serving. I peeled most of the breading off of the chicken to eat it and it was really good! I don't want to say not go, this is a uniquely hip place! I just didn't enjoy it today. Maybe just a bad day. I love to support family owned businesses and wish them much success! read more

The place is kinda small but or wait was only 15 minutes. Our Server could have been a little more warm and definitely more pleasant. I felt rushed to order, being our first time there I figured I'd play it safe order the farmers breakfast. 2 eggs ....cold Toast 1 slice of some type of multigrain? bread which broke apart like a croton and just as dry 2 pieces bacon was great. 2 pices sausage could had been browned a little. Small portion of hash brown which were good. Cold eggs are rarely good and for $10 they could at least be hot. Sorry we won't be returning. read more

This place is just so cute! The food was good and the guy who served us was friendly and attentive. Biscuits and gravy were yummy. It got busy around 9 but it seemed like no one had to wait very long to be seated. The prices here were considerably less than our breakfast spots in Greenville. read more

I had heard about this joint for quite some time but have been unable to experience the magic until this morning! It has a cool vibe and welcoming atmosphere as you arrive. I had the chicken biscuit with potatoes and grits as my side. The food was fabulous and a great portion for the price. My litmus test for breakfast places is..... this little gem nestled in downtown Anderson. A little place located between a few locally owned retail spots. Upon entry the place appears to be a little step back in time. Reminding me of the days of old. Subtle lighting, roughly 12-15 tables and a really nice semicircle bar as the go amount of the Resturant. A mix between the old dime store eatery in and a modern coffee shop. Ordered the country ham with red eye gravy and my dining partner enjoyed the kids chocolate chips pancakes with sausage. Southern dining with a plate full of southern comfort (food that is not the drink!) Budget friendly and reasonably priced we enjoyed our breakfast for two $16.19 before tip! Decor: several hand painted pictures displayed on the wall adds the artistic flair. Tim foiled ceilings painted white with a feel of old. Mosaic tiles floors with a copper oven hood that displays over the bar. Definitely a hang out spot for breakfast or brunch. Opens early and closes early so if saving this place remember to visit before 12 noon. read more

I am not a breakfast person. You can have your bacon and eggs, I'll take the Cocoa Puffs. Unless you're going to Mr. Rivers, and then I'm the first one in the car. This place is consistently fantastic. Everything is fresh and delicious. The grits, the gravies, the pancakes, the fried green tomatoes...good gracious, those fried green tomatoes with that bacon jam. They are the best ones I've ever had. I will not return until the shrimp cake Benedict returns!! This place is great but that's what I go for....

Wow! Wow, wow, wow... WOW! I went here this past Saturday with a group of old friends, before attending the wedding of our friend who had previously worked here. The lot of us - from Alaska, to Ohio, to Illinois, to Florida - were collectively caught off guard by how amazing the entire experience turned out to be. Situated in the South, this place represents the quintessential Southern breakfast. We predominantly ordered the chicken-fried biscuits & gravy, served with home fries and grits, along with appetizers of fried green tomatoes and Bloody Mary's for refreshments. The chicken is cooked to perfection, with the perfect balance of moistness and firmness. The gravy has a wonderful salty taste to it - but not too heavy on the sodium. The grits, however? Let me tell you; none of us are fans of grits, but we found ourselves delighted by the soft, buttery delivery that could sway even the staunchest non-believer. Beyond that, the fried green tomatoes were delicious and the Bloody Mary's were bloody good. This establishment is wonderful and the next time I come to Anderson to see the newlywed couple, I simply must rendezvous here. Here is to a solid five-star experience! read more

I've never had a bad experience here. It's always busy but I've never really had to wait long either, the service is great. Good mimosas, with different flavors weekly. The apple cider and pineapple upside down cake are two good ones. I also love the bloody Mary's, especially if you tell them you want it spicy. Their pancakes are my favorite and they are huge. I also really liked the fried chicken biscuit with vegetable gravy and my husband loves their shrimp and grits. This is a perfect brunch experience, by far the best in Anderson. read more

Delicious breakfast! Nice to see a downtown food spot. The ambiance is of an olden days tin ceiling establishment. Excellent service, even as busy as they were. Tried the Farmer breakfast, and it was great with the smoked pecan bacon. Don't forget the fried dough, it nearly made me cry. Coffee was even very good. Will definitely return to try the biscuits. read more

I was so exciting coming to Mr. Rivers Breakfast Joint because I've been wanting another breakfast place and here we found one right in downtown! First off, they did a great job updating the space inside -it looks great! We were brought the Fried Doughnut Appetizer by our server which was on the house! My husband and I had to stop after one to save our appetite for the main dish -they were delicious and served with honey whipped butter (yum). Every table + bar was packed so a wait on food was expected. However it came within 15 minutes. I had a regular mimosa which wasn't as sweet and bubbly as I wanted but maybe that's how some like it. My husband and I split the Farmers Breakfast and we added one pancake. The eggs were cooked spot on, sausage was pretty good, but the home fries were overlooked, unfortunately. Also the biscuit had a simple but pleasant taste. I enjoyed the pancake and the syrup was delightful! We were definitely full with our portions. They also have some specials listed that looked really tasty and we will make sure to try them next time! The pricing was a bit more than what we would have priced the food items as however we are excited to have a breakfast joint in downtown. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and the staff was friendly. Definitely recommend! read more

We spent the weekend in Anderson and wanted a good brunch spot to visit. I have mixed reviews on the business. I felt that the service could have been better. Staff seemed to be more focused on breaking down for the day rather than accommodating customers that were seated and eating. I felt rushed to order, you could tell they have a regular crowed who is familiar with menu items and know exactly what they want. We needed time to look over the menu which seemed to irritate them. The food however was good. It came quickly. It was average, could be seasoned a bit better however. read more

Great spot in the downtown area. The building is old, used to be a bank maybe? French toast was excellent and staff are attentive.

I hate to give this review but after hearing so many good things about Mr. Rivers I couldn't find anything good about to say about it. I ordered a meat frittata and it was awful. Barely could find the meat. My friend's potatoes looked burnt as well as her chicken brisket. Waitress was slow in refilling coffee. Sorry this girl tried it and don't like it. read more

This place is my favorite! They were really busy but had limited seating (due to DHEC guidelines) so of course there was a bit of a wait. The staff was all friendly and you could tell they worked as a team. The food is DELICIOUS. I had a grapefruit mimosa, fried dough, and had the duck egg BLT with grits. The inside is decorated really cute. Nicole and Zaria helped take care of us and were great servers, and the hostess Sunshine was so sweet and helpful.
