The restaurant has a rustic ambience. About 10 tables and the bar. The waitress was very accommodating and friendly. The food was good. We had a traditional breakfast. Husband had grits which he said were very smooth and buttery. I had eggs over easy but the Yolk's were too hard for my liking. The pecan smoked bacon had such a great flavor and not too salty. We enjoy visiting Mr Rivers for brunch. The staff is great. The food today was delicious. My husband had his usual Farmers breakfast with a side of sausage gravy. We are kind of picky about our gravy; always comparing to "mom's" gravy. These guys are pretty close. I ordered something different for me. The ham with red eye gravy over grits and biscuit was very good. My taster generally is not into overly salty food. It seemed fitting this ham was salty though. Maybe it was an off day, based on other reviews. I was super excited for the fried dough, but it was definitely overcooked. The outside was about 3x thicker than it should be, almost crunchy. I ate two and left the rest. For my breakfast, I decided on the sausage gravy and biscuits. The potatoes were pretty bland. The biscuits were just like grandma used to make, dry and tasteless. The real star, actually the only star, of this meal was the sausage gravy. They knocked it out of the park with this. Just a little bit of spice, plenty of sausage in the gravy... A much-needed breakfast joint. Most of the ingredients they said are local farms, etc. Most of the things I've tried are very well done. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because sometimes things are over seasoned when it comes to salt. Mr. Rivers is a great place to try especially since it's competition the Eggs Up Grill has gotten more expensive,, they have change the recipes, using cheaper ingredients or just plain removed some of the customers favorites. Sausage gravy was very runny and biscuits were very dense. I ordered the Pineapple Upside Down mimosa. Delightful and tasty! The drink had the cherry laying on the bottom of the glass! So cute! I ordered the Chicken n Biscuits w gravy and potatoes. Chicken was overly crispy, a bit hard. The outer crust had that burnt char flavor and was way to salty for me. Gravy was thick and creamy, but there wasn't enough to soak into the dense dry biscuits. The potatoes were hard, unseasoned and seemed like they were refried before serving. I peeled most of the breading off of the chicken to eat it and it was really good! I don't want to say not go, this is a uniquely hip place! I just didn't enjoy it today. Maybe just a bad day. I felt rushed to order, being our first time there I figured I'd play it safe order the farmers breakfast. 2 eggs ....cold Toast 1 slice of some type of multigrain? bread which broke apart like a croton and just as dry 2 pieces bacon was great. 2 pices sausage could had been browned a little. this little gem nestled in downtown Anderson. A little place located between a few locally owned retail spots. Upon entry the place appears to be a little step back in time. Reminding me of the days of old. Subtle lighting, roughly 12-15 tables and a really nice semicircle bar as the go amount of the Resturant. A mix between the old dime store eatery in and a modern coffee shop. Ordered the country ham with red eye gravy and my dining partner enjoyed the kids chocolate chips pancakes with sausage. Southern dining with a plate full of southern comfort (food that is not the drink!) Budget friendly and reasonably priced we enjoyed our breakfast for two $16.19 before tip! Decor: several hand painted pictures displayed on the wall adds the artistic flair. Tim foiled ceilings painted white with a feel of old. Mosaic tiles floors with a copper oven hood that displays over the bar. Definitely a hang out spot for breakfast or brunch. Wow! Wow, wow, wow... WOW! I went here this past Saturday with a group of old friends, before attending the wedding of our friend who had previously worked here. The lot of us - from Alaska, to Ohio, to Illinois, to Florida - were collectively caught off guard by how amazing the entire experience turned out to be. We predominantly ordered the chicken-fried biscuits & gravy, served with home fries and grits, along with appetizers of fried green tomatoes and Bloody Mary's for refreshments. The chicken is cooked to perfection, with the perfect balance of moistness and firmness. The gravy has a wonderful salty taste to it - but not too heavy on the sodium. The grits, however? Let me tell you; none of us are fans of grits, but we found ourselves delighted by the soft, buttery delivery that could sway even the staunchest non-believer. Beyond that, the fried green tomatoes were delicious and the Bloody Mary's were bloody good. I've never had a bad experience here. It's always busy but I've never really had to wait long either, the service is great. Good mimosas, with different flavors weekly. The apple cider and pineapple upside down cake are two good ones. I also love the bloody Mary's, especially if you tell them you want it spicy. Their pancakes are my favorite and they are huge. Staff seemed to be more focused on breaking down for the day rather than accommodating customers that were seated and eating. I was so exciting coming to Mr. Rivers Breakfast Joint because I've been wanting another breakfast place and here we found one right in downtown! First off, they did a great job updating the space inside -it looks great! We were brought the Fried Doughnut Appetizer by our server which was on the house! My husband and I had to stop after one to save our appetite for the main dish -they were delicious and served with honey whipped butter (yum). Every table + bar was packed so a wait on food was expected. However it came within 15 minutes. I had a regular mimosa which wasn't as sweet and bubbly as I wanted but maybe that's how some like it. My husband and I split the Farmers Breakfast and we added one pancake. The eggs were cooked spot on, sausage was pretty good, but the home fries were overlooked, unfortunately. Also the biscuit had a simple but pleasant taste. I enjoyed the pancake and the syrup was delightful! We were definitely full with our portions. They also have some specials listed that looked really tasty and we will make sure to try them next time! The pricing was a bit more than what we would have priced the food items as however we are excited to have a breakfast joint in downtown. Wow! Ate here for the first time this morning with my daughter. Her chocolate chip pancakes were amazing and she gave two big thumbs up! I had the eggs Benedict with grits.... I must say it was the best eggs Benedict I've had outside of Disney world. It's my favorite breakfast dish and the ones here are amazing, fresh, perfectly poached with perfect portion of sauce and meat! We had the duck egg BLT, we also had the fried dough app and everything I put in my mouth was delicious! 06/20/20 we walked in at 11:15 and got seated almost immediately outside on a beautiful day. Our server Nicole was awesome and the beautiful and the kind hostess Sunshine was bussing tables and being sweet as pie. The one server inside that I have to brag on is Zaria!
