The ambiance is shwae here, but the employees seem absolutely miserable. The frittata was delicious, with the perfect amount of spice and flavor. The biscuits however were dryer than my dad's skin in the winter. Not to mention, the food took unusually long to come out.

Maybe it was an off day, based on other reviews. I was super excited for the fried dough, but it was definitely overcooked. The outside was about 3x thicker than it should be, almost crunchy. I ate two and left the rest. For my breakfast, I decided on the sausage gravy and biscuits. The potatoes were pretty bland. The biscuits were just like grandma used to make, dry and tasteless. The real star, actually the only star, of this meal was the sausage gravy. They knocked it out of the park with this. Just a little bit of spice, plenty of sausage in the gravy... I could eat a bowl of this by itself. Staff was friendly, and I loved the location.

Don't get me wrong, the inside of this breakfast joint is indubitably adorable. However, our waitress was in a bit of a mood which took away from the experience. I got the bacon, egg and cheese on a homemade biscuit & was disappointed. The biscuit was so dry I ended up eating just the egg, bacon, and cheese. Good vibes, just don't get a biscuit!

This place is just so cute! The food was good and the guy who served us was friendly and attentive. Biscuits and gravy were yummy. It got busy around 9 but it seemed like no one had to wait very long to be seated. The prices here were considerably less than our breakfast spots in Greenville.

Best grits I've ever had in my entire life. Ever. So amazing. Also the pancakes are perfecto. Definitely the pineapple upside down Mimosa was the bees knees.

What an amazing hip atmosphere! Lots of college students. Very clean and they are following all Covid protocols! Service was AMAZING! The wait staff gets 10 stars! I have been hearing rave reviews about Mr Rivers Breakfast and we wanted to try something new. The menu has a brunch style feel to it. Very creative and different. The menu supports local businesses and offers unique flare! I love that! My hubby ordered the sausage biscuits & gravy w grits. Grits were creamy and delightful! Sausage gravy was very runny and biscuits were very dense. I ordered the Pineapple Upside Down mimosa. Delightful and tasty! The drink had the cherry laying on the bottom of the glass! So cute! I ordered the Chicken n Biscuits w gravy and potatoes. Chicken was overly crispy, a bit hard. The outer crust had that burnt char flavor and was way to salty for me. Gravy was thick and creamy, but there wasn't enough to soak into the dense dry biscuits. The potatoes were hard, unseasoned and seemed like they were refried before serving. I peeled most of the breading off of the chicken to eat it and it was really good! I don't want to say not go, this is a uniquely hip place! I just didn't enjoy it today. Maybe just a bad day. I love to support family owned businesses and wish them much success!

Amazing Breakfast in a cool place! Started with an order of fried dough & the coffee of the day, Caramel. Coffee was so smooth and delicious & fried dough was a great pair with the coffee! All food is fresh & local! I had the shrimp cake Benedict with a side of grits! Absolutely delicious! Loved the shrimp cake Benedict on top of a fried green tomato & the grits were the best Ive ever had! My husband had the sausage gravy & home fries and he loved his too! Loved the decor and the staff was friendly and informative about the restaurant & local info.

I had heard about this joint for quite some time but have been unable to experience the magic until this morning! It has a cool vibe and welcoming atmosphere as you arrive. I had the chicken biscuit with potatoes and grits as my side. The food was fabulous and a great portion for the price. My litmus test for breakfast places is..... THE GRITS, they need to be salted and not soupy!!! Mr. River's Breakfast Joint passed the test with amazing grit(s)!!

One and done. Poor service, poor food, great location. Such a shame, a stain on our beautiful down town.

Great little find. Our family had breakfast there today and everyone was pleased with their dish. We will be back for sure.

Talk about old school. This was an interesting discovery. There are several buildings including a…read moreFarmers market so I wasn't sure where the restaurant was. I went in the Farmer's Market first. It looks like an old barn. There were lots and lots of homemade choices- "canned" soup bases, fruits, vegetables, salsas, jams, flavored oils to name a few. There were also fresh fruits, nuts, honey, vegetables, dairy products and cakes. There are four areas you can eat. The main "restaurant" is small with only a few tables. Evidently it's a favorite of older local gentlemen to gather for an early breakfast. There is also the "Pig Sty," "The Chicken Coop" and the farmer's market area. Some of these can be cold in the winter and warm in the summer so dress accordingly. The farmer's market area is heated by a wood stove. The staff here are so friendly. It felt like we were visiting family. The food was good ole country food. The hubby and I each ordered the breakfast plate. I had coffee with my choice of several flavored creamers. If you pay in cash you get a discount. If you are in the area you should check it out. You can order from the breakfast or lunch menu. Plan to stay a few extra minutes and look around and support local farmers. We brought home some boiled peanuts. Fun experience and good breakfast.

This is a sweet little bakery and cafe on the square of the historic town of Pendleton. I have been…read morehere several times and have enjoyed myself each time. One side has a bakery where you can watch the delicious goodies being made. The other side is a small cafe. Although there is limited seating I have never had to wait for a table. I haven't gone on the weekend (pretty sure the Sunday morning brunch would be a different story). A friend and I met for lunch at 1:00 pm on a Wednesday. My friend had the Café Club with the pasta salad and a sweet tea. I had the Quiche of the Day, the pasta salad and a hot cup of Clemson Sunrise (Vanilla, Caramel & White Mocha). The pasta salad wasn't my favorite-next time I'll give the potato salad a try. The service and food were very good. The café closed at 2:00 pm. Since we were still visiting, my friend and I grabbed our drinks and walked a few steps to the center of the lovely town square and found a swing to continue our conversation...but that's for another review. The Village Bakery & Café is worth a visit whether it's to grab something from the bakery and enjoy a cup of coffee or to meet a friend for breakfast or lunch. Lovely outing.
