The meatloaf melt is not only super creative, it's freaking delicious! The meatloaf could cover the bread a little more, even for the same portion of meatloaf, but every bite of the sandwich was great! If there wasn't meatloaf in the bite, there was bacon, cheese, caramelized onions, and pickles. It's a great sandwich. The homemade dill pickle slice on the try is fantastic! Tastes house made, and leaves you wanting more. It's a tease! I went with a side of Toms potato's, which were better than fries I thought, but seemed to lack flavor direction. Finally tried out this restaurant. Located right off busy HWY 76 between Pendleton and Anderson. Seats about 50 People. Homey atmosphere. Very friendly staff-you feel welcome when you walk in the door. The menu is on a chalkboard on the wall. Once you order and pay you seat yourself. When the order is ready it is brought to your table. There is an area where you can get plastic silverware, napkins, coffee, creamer, hot sauce, etc. There are even take home containers if needed. The hubby ordered the Frittata with bread + jam. It is made with fresh ingredients and it was evident. I had a sample-it was delicious. I had the smoked salmon everything bagel with hot tea. It was good. I look forward to trying this restaurant again. There are several items on the breakfast and lunch menus that I need to test out. ;-) As of this week they have a dinner menu...a tasting menu that is suppose to be shared. Driving through the area and wanted a place to grab lunch. So glad I found this place! It doesn't look like much from the outside. You order at the counter and there's a giant chalkboard of their daily offerings. Then they give you a number and you choose your own table and display the number so they can bring it to you. There was a slight wait for the food but that's obviously because everything is made from scratch to order. So worth the wait! Everything was delicious and flavourful. Some unique combination that work great together. And the staff was so friendly and helpful. Also, the bathrooms were very clean, always a good sign. read more

I visited ruffage today for the first time! The menu was intimidating so I decided to adventure out & try something new. The staff was so understand when they realized it wasn't my favorite, they were so quick to make me something new to make sure I left happy. I ended up with the Cuban and it was AMAZING, the collards were the perfect southern touch. My sister got breakfast and I had to stop her from inhaling it to snap a picture! My wife and I visited for lunch. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: They have done a wonderful job setting a vibe with the "smart" decor. It would have been easy to make this place look cheap and uninspiring, however, the owners have done just enough to make it look effortlessly hip and classy. Great job! THE FOOD: My wife had the RUBYcon (corned beef brisket on rye). She was leery ordering it, being our first visit here and all; corned beef can be done wrong. She was very impressed at the taste. Corned beef is made or missed by what you accent it with. Ruffage's choice of S&S pineapple, cabbage, swiss, aioli, honey basil dijon on rye, was a perfect combination! I had the Tony Burger Bowl mainly because of the photo on their website; it looked like a fun, complex mess! I have to admit that for my burgers, I tend to be very traditional (meat, cheese, dressing, tomato), but I figured that I would either love this place or this would be our last visit here. I.e. let's jump in with both feet! This was the most complex and wonderful burger I have ever had the pleasure of eating! It was perfectly cooked. The flavors of the chili were bold, the beef was perfectly seasoned, the bun was absolutely perfect as well. THE STAFF: As we have come to expect since moving here from California, the staff were so sweet, accommodating and efficient. The restaurant was definitely set up by a gourmet chef because our meals were nothing less than what I would expect at a true gourmet cafe. SUMMARY: We are so fortunate that we found the quaint town of Pendleton to make our forever home. There are many little gems that we have discovered here. Ruffage Cafe is the newest member of that list. If you are local, it would be a shame to say you've never been and if you are passing the general area it is worth making a trip out of the way to visit. INCREDIBLE food! The place is always packed and rightfully so! The waitstaff was quick to navigate customers to seating and communicated wait times. She found us a spot out of the way (perfect for my 5 month old) I ordered the Benny of the week and it was probably the best breakfast I've ever had in my life and beautifully plated. The owners are also the cooks and culinary genius behind it all and you can see how hard they work, their attention to detail and how much they value their staff and community. Great little cafe serving up tasty, fresh food. My husband and I have been there three times in three weeks. So far, we have enjoyed the show-me-the-money and the-knockout the most out of our orders. We've also tried the chimi cheesesteak, the rubycon, and the salmon bagel. They also offer two soups a day and home baked sweets. Service here is very pleasant and efficient. Although they can sometimes have a line out the door, the young ladies cleaning the tables and refilling glasses keep everything moving swiftly, and tables are ready for the next customers. A good place to stop in in Pendleton if you're looking for a late breakfast or lunch and are willing to spend a little. A bit like a diner if a hipster made the menu, but that worked for me. I had the Toadstool burger with the Honey Basil slaw. Normally I'm not a Cole slaw guy, but this was great! The flavor was consistent and the sauce wasn't too heavy. My only complaint is that the slaw was a little hard to eat as it's coarsely shredded. The burger was pretty good, though maybe not worth what I paid for it. As a whole, it's delicious and works well, if maybe a little big top-to-bottom. However, after it eventually slid apart, I found that the patty itself is strictly mediocre. It didn't have much flavor on its own, and it tasted a little watery. With all that's going on in the burger as a whole, I hadn't noticed. Where else have you seen a Bruschetta Burger? It was a huge, juicy, well made burger on a nice soft bun with lots of bruschetta. My wife had a really nice salad with chicken on top. They have variety to please all sorts of tastes. This is a breakfast and lunch place. I understand that they have a dinner on occasion and have a waiting list for that, so there is something interesting to try. It's casual, clean, well organized, and pleasant. You order at the counter from the blackboard. They serve to your table when the order is up. Daily specials are on the board. They serve Portuguese and greek. They also had some curry items and Chinese. They serve a lot of food for the price. The waitresses are pleasant and helpful. They recommend dishes for your taste. We had traditional breakfast. Good food.! Not vegetarian! I did not stop here since this place opened because of the name, obviously I thought it was vegetarian. It's a little confusing when you first get there, counter service and you can order when there are no tables available so when you're food is done you might be waiting for a table. People were coming in after us and claiming open tables before they ordered, so they had a table and no food and we had food and no table. This is the restaurants fault not the patrons. By This is a MUST whenever you visit or come near to Anderson or Clemson, So. Carolina. They have a wonderful menu..and they're open to giving you a taste of of any of the sides. Their cole slaw is outstanding although I do wish the cabbage was sliced thinner..but it's so good that I order it every time! As soon as you walk in you know that you're going to experience something special. A big open room where everyone seems to know everyone. You can see what each table is having and it becomes a conversation starter. Beautifully presented, each dish is a mouth watering delight. The servers are very knowledgeable and accommodating. Best breakfast we have had in the Pendleton area (here on business with my husband; have been eating out every morning for the past 4 days). Actually would give it 4.5 stars if available - just a ding because it is not eco-friendly. Uses plastic utensils, etc. Although a traditional breakfast is available, with eggs, bacon/ham/sausage, grits/potatoes, and toast ($8), they also have interesting selections, like a daily frittata special, French toast bread pudding and many others.
