Like another customer stated, I had my debit card fraudulently charged by the bartender Katelyn without my knowledge. While she seemed kind, she told me to call them if it hasn't been resolved in 1-2 days. Now, it's going on 4 days that I still have the money out of my account and no one is picking up the phone. As much as I absolutely love their House Custom Bloody Mary drink, it is very unsettling that I left my card to open a tab and they charged me $89+ dollars without my knowledge and then allowed me to pay another $83+ dollars to close my tab 20 minutes later without letting me know what happened. I surprisingly found out only because I luckily checked my bank account right after leaving and was able to walk back in. Would not recommend coming to this establishment. read more

Mr. Ricks is our go-to every time we are in Avila. Always look forward to the coconut shrimp and margaritas. This visit, food wasn't as good. I gave this rating mainly for the incredible outdoor dining area, people watching , friendly bartender / waitstaff, and location. If you also want to order a meal, then our burger and fish sandwich were good - for bar food. So if you want a great meal, then this place will disappoint. But back to all the other features. So many tables were available with front row seating of the beach. Lots of people watching, and on a beautiful day - this is the place to relax and enjoy. We visited on a Sunday close to lunchtime. There were a few things all of us who came would recommend considering before coming. One. They ripped us off with the vodka in the Bloody Mary. The menu calls for Absolut vodka but they served some random label-less vodka. When it was addressed with the waiter he offered to make a new one. We declined but asked that they discount $1, which he did. The fish tacos had a super small piece of fish for each taco. They had two full sized corn tortillas on each taco. Clean and relatively big bar with a pool table and area for dancing/DJ. They have two big garage door that open to the outside where you can get fresh air. On Farmer's market Friday, live bands perform; their setup is right outside Rick's, so it's a good place to cop a squat and enjoy. The wait at Custom House was too long and we just wanted an appetizer and drink before going back on the Bob Jones Trail. We had the street tacos which were very tasty and an 805. Simple and perfect. 3 stars seems about right. I checked out Mr. Rick's on a recent trip to Avila. I wanted to grab some food and hang out for a while and talk to some locals. I got there at around 7pm and it was completely empty. Just me and a bartender. I asked what time they closed, thinking that maybe they get busy later, but the bartender told me that it depends on business and that he would probably close at 8pm. I had a drink and some food . Nobody else showed up so I left and he closed down. Now it was a Tuesday, but still. The food was good, but not great. Interestingly enough, the food served at Rick's is actually made at a restaurant right behind them (Old Custom House I believe) and even though it is the exact same food, it is $2 per item cheaper at Mr. Rick's. I guess you pay more for the dining experience at the other place. I'll save the money and eat at Mr. Rick's. I also must point out that they offer a Mango Margarita that according to the sign in the bar consists of "Rock-n-Roll tequila, margarita mix, cranberry juice, pineapple juice and triple-sec." You know what is not included in their "Mango" Margarita? Even the hint of mango! Maybe I'm just picky, but I think a Mango Margarita should have at least some mango in it somewhere. This is a great casual place to have a refreshing drink and a light appetizer. After a long day at the beach I recommend the beef barbacoa nachos or the tequila lime quesadilla. The nachos are over loaded with beans, cheese beef, jalapenos you can order the sour cream on the side. They are filling there is more than enough for two or three people to share. The quesadilla has enough chicken to fill you I can only eat half. Their iced tea is refreshing with or with out lemon too. You can sit at the bar or a table or even outside and enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean. It's a pet friendly place too. Everyone is nice and friendly although the service is hit or miss at times but if you aren't in a rush it shouldn't matter. read more

Great place to get a quick bite to eat or to grab drinks. They have good craft beers on tap which my hubby and I love. They also do mixed drinks, it is after all a bar. I love how they changed it to a more Family friendly atmosphere during the pandemic which is great for my family. Love that it's a beach front and can eat outside and enjoy that beautiful ocean view. Their menu is an extension of Custom House so you know you'll be getting great food. On this trip my husband ordered the Calamari and Strips (but we sub for garlic fries) which is supper yummy and Coconut Prawns. We just wanted a beer and appetizers on this occasion and it was perfect. Sat down and NO ONE hands you a menu or even acknowledges your existence. 'Water? Menu? Can I get you guys anything?'... nope. Go to the bar to order food and beer. Sit down and wait another 15 - 20 min. for your food. I ordered the tempura fish tacos. Pretty good. I'd say it came with a salad because they dumped a ton of slaw in the middle to hide the small pieces of tempura fish in the tortilla. I was hungry so I ate it and was happy. Terrible service (Easter Sunday) at Mr. Rick's bar. The bartender was very rude (flat billed) and very disrespectful to our party. We will never come back to this establishment. It's pretty pathetic that the bartender can ruin a great day by having a terrible attitude and absolutely the worst customer service eve. I won't be going back here again. Not only was the food ok the bartender was absolutely rude and lost our credit card. We went in to let him know and he yelled at the friends that we were with. Bad business practice for sure! So we w we re not planning on coming here initially but we had time before our dinner reservations down the street so we decided to venture and have some drinks. It looked like a fun place just walking by, very relaxed and the food smelled good, the environment seemed inviting so we gave it a shot. It was so fun! The bartender was very laid back and gave us our options based on what mixed drinks we stated we liked. They were well made and great tasting. The area was pretty big, lots of space, a pool table and eventually a band that was soo good and played some classic songs we knew from the 90's, and danced our food off at the end of the night. The drinks and food were decent, but a little pricey for what you get. Nice outdoor seating and view. They had some nice live music that wasn't too loud or overpowering.
