Tried out Westerly in Shell Beach this week. The food was solid, the views are hard to beat, and the overall vibe has a lot of potential. Since they're still new, the service is finding its footing, but the staff was friendly and doing their best. The real entertainment of the evening wasn't on the menu--it was the lady at the next table who seemed determined to file a complaint about literally everything. Water too wet, sun too bright, ocean too ocean-y... you get the idea. Overall, a good first experience. Give them some grace as they work out the kinks. The food was enjoyable, the location is beautiful, and unlike some of the customers, I'd definitely go back. read more

The view alone is enough to bring me back! The salad I got was a great size and the sea glass martini was refreshing! I really like their choice in their patio umbrellas. We sat inside and looked out at the view. It was fun watching people walk and down the trail by the cliffs. The food service was slower than expected but the food was very good! read more

Another spot where I would give 10 stars if I could!!! We were greeted right away, asked if we had a reservation (we didn't) & was told they had outdoor seating if we wanted 2 b seated immediately. We choose outdoor seating & what a view!!! It's on the edge of a cliff so the ocean was right there. Only issue was that it was a tad chili & there wasn't any heating lamps. Our waitress was Emily & she was fantastic. We ordered 2 appetizers: hot rolls & butter, and deviled eggs. The hot rolls were a set of 4 w/ an herbed butter, served in a cast iron-yum!!! Deviled eggs came w/ bacon & pickled onions. As I've said many times in my reviews, onions r yucky!! But I tried it anyways, then scooped the onions off & gave 2 my sister. They were delish & creamy. I then ordered the gem wedge & added breaded fried shrimp. And omg, the shrimp was breaded w/ panko & it was soooo good!!! The flavor was delish & the panko breading was perfect w/ crunch!!! Great renovation keeping this former locals favorite (Spyglass) with its wonderful views and dog friendly casual charm- love the new whimsical beach feel. Our breakfasts were both wonderful and very good portions for the cost in our opinion- we enjoyed huevos rancheros and lemon curd ricotta pancakes. Westerly is such a nice new addition to our central coast restaurant with a view scene! The remodel is fabulous! Are at the bar and ordered deviled eggs, superb! Ordered the steak bites and the salmon entree!! Salmon entree was amazing! The chile crunch on salmon was delicious! We also ordered the cheescake at the end and it was Soo delicious with a raspberry sauce! Overall food was great, service was great and views were great! Lots of things on menu I want to try out! Amazing ocean view and really delicious food with super fair prices. Our valet at The Cliffs Resort actually recommended Westerly to us for dinner and we were so very happy to learn of this new restaurant and we were so shocked by the spectacular ocean view and the prices. We had a great experience at the Westerly! The atmosphere was lovely with great views of the water. We had an amazing server who was very attentive and friendly. And the food was delicious! We got the garlic roasted Caesar salad to start off. The lettuce was very fresh. For our mains, we got the cappellini pasta and steak frites. Both were delicious. The pasta was good, and the sauce almost had the flavor profile of a homemade tomato soup. Very good! The steak frites were where it was at. If you are going here GET THIS!!! The steak was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. The French fries were to die for, truly! They were crispy and salty, and I couldn't stop eating them. I will say that they were slightly on the salty side so if you are watching your sodium intake, you may want to ask for them lightly salted. As a sodium lover, they were amazing! Disappointing changes in the lounge with no-back bar stools (no one over 50 can sit) and small booths instead of tables and chairs. Drinks are expensively light. Light on the ambiance as well. The outside restaurant is great when its not windy, food is ordinary, service is fine. Apparently these folks spend money on consultants that know nothing about the Shell Beach vibe, and failed to open a new "place to go" for us locals, after all this waiting. read more

We are so excited to see the Westerly open for business! Took a chance and got lucky - they just opened for their first full day of service today. Everything is clean and bright, the view is unmatched, and the food delicious! The prices are very reasonable, and the staff is super friendly. Staff was sweet, we arrived early and they gave us a table right away. Great spot to have a sunset cocktail and appetizers.

I came to their opening with a private event from Biddle Ranch winery. The restaurant has been remodeled very well. It is run by the group that also has the Oyster Loft and Ventana Grill. The restaurant features a breakfast, lunch, and dinner program. The views of the ocean are spectacular. I will update my review when it is officially open. read more

First time trying dinner here and we weren't that impressed. Ordered steak bites and asked that our meat be med well. The server told us the chef decides what temp for the meat is the best. Needless to say it was too red for us. Had to take it home to finish cooking it to our liking. read more

I have been three times so far. The first time we sat at the bar. We had a couple cocktails which were great but it was hard to get service. Each time we wanted to order something we really had to interrupt one of the bartenders to do so. Felt a bit off since there was two bartenders and a manager behind the bar. But otherwise everything was great. We had the steak bites and fries. I enjoyed and would order again. The second time we sat outside and Zoe was our server. She was great! We had the fish tacos and burgers and enjoyed both. Today we went back and sat outside again and Zoe was also great! I had the fish and chips and would definitely not order those again. Outside breading was tasty but underneath the fish was just a wet mushy mix of some fish and uncooked breading. The deviled eggs are good though and would get those again. Overall we are happy to have this location open and will continue to go back. Great view and they did a great job on the remodel. read more

Formerly Spyglass Restaurant, Westerly has a whole new interior, but they maintained the great outdoor patio seating. We had lunch and the menu was reasonably priced and the food was very good. Service was friendly and excellent. For a restaurant that just opened, we were surprised that things went so well. This is one of the best places to have a cocktail and watch the sunset. I'm looking forward to when they initiate happy hour. read more

We ate at Westerly for the first time since they took over the Spyglass Restaurant. They've done a nice job remodeling, and we sat outside, which was clean and had a great ocean view. Our lunch was delicious and came out quickly. We had the fish tacos and turkey avo sandwich. The service was great! John was our server, and he was very polite and responsive. So we tried Westerly for the first time. View incredible. Good service. Food good and good portions. Limited menu. Server said cook determines how steak or ground beef should be cooked. What the heck? Wanted medium rare. Got well done. Bar stools no backs. Small booths in bar. Umbrellas outside don't tilt from what I observed. How many people want to eat in the full sun? No draft beer which always tastes better. Will we be back? Unlikely unless some changes are made. I also think people on Yelp give 5 stars way to freely. read more

Really happy that this restaurant has reopened. The remodeling of the old restaurant was done very well. Went for lunch and the food was very good. Nice salads and I had the clam chowder and really enjoyed a chowder not drowning in cream or thickened with flour. The fish broth was very tasty. Service was very good, except for getting drinks refilled. Also, we ordered the sourdough bread and it was very tasty but we were warned not to touch the handle of the pan, since it had just come out of the oven. It seems like it would be smart to put a little cover on that handle before someone forgets the warning or doesn't hear it and gets a bad burn. We are going to try the weekend brunch as we have heard very good things about the food on that menu. read more

The Westerly just opened and I wanted to try it. I ordered a breakfast burrito and my friend the steak and eggs. When we walked in, we were seated there was no set up on the table we were given a one sheet of paper menu. After about 10 minutes the waitress asked what we wanted. We ordered coffee and food. Another 10 minutes went by no coffee, no water. She finally brought the coffee and I asked for water. The food finally came. The breakfast burrito came on a plate with nothing else, no fruit, no hot sauce. Honestly, the eggs tasted like they were powered, no favor. The bacon was scarce as were the potatoes with very thinly sliced jalapeño pepper. It was extremely bland tasting. She brought runny strawberry jam and a tomatillo sauce that tasted off. I wouldn't order that again. My friend's steak was tough . The real eggs were cooked right. It was served with white toast ( no other option was given). The coffee was good. The waitress should have asked if we wanted coffee when she seated us. The place is cute inside with a huge bar and they have a beautiful patio outside with awesome views. John our server was attentive. Three of us had a hamburger, turkey sandwich and fish tacos. Portions were average. The French fries were the toothpick type that I don't know anyone who prefers. You get the felling they chose skinny fries just to be different. French fries are notoriously difficult to serve hot. The smaller ones like Westerly chose just makes it more difficult to serve hot. Especially with long trips from the kitchen to the outside tables. They should immediately change to a thicker fry. Like the majority of non-Mexican restaurants that have tacos on the menu, they serve them with no garnish or side dish(es). They are missing the boat here. The remodeling is well done and the glass plates nicely block the wind but not the gorgeous views. But overall, no wow factor but clearly a place to put on your rotating list of regular haunts. They would benefit from a happy hour food/beverage menu like Lure. read more
