The service was very attentive, and our server was delightful throughout our meal. We started with drinks: my husband had a gin martini while I ordered a vodka martini. Initially, we thought they tasted exactly the same, but before we could address it, another server came over with the correct gin martini and let us keep the extra vodka martini at no additional cost, which was a nice touch. For appetizers, we chose the clam chowder and deviled eggs. The clam chowder was a bit on the watery side with a strong fishy flavor that might appeal to some, but it wasn't quite to our taste. The deviled eggs were good but could have used an extra kick; perhaps some smoked bacon or diced peppers would enhance them. The main courses were reasonably priced with portion sizes that felt more "normal" compared to the typically large servings we often encounter living in the good ol' USA. My husband ordered the burger, and I went for the steak and frites. The chimichurri accompanying my dish tasted fresh and homemade, a definite highlight. However, we both found that the steak and burger were lacking a certain something, perhaps a bit bland due to a lack of spice or seasoning? Everything was "just fine", but we were hoping for great! Nothing we experienced would be a dealbreaker to returning; we will definitely return to Westerly to explore more of their menu, especially considering the unmatched location. We ordered the Caesar salad, their squash app and the branzino fish to share. The Caesar salad was very fresh and the squash was a nice hearty side with their tomato based sauce. Liked the lunch, so decided to try their breakfast. I have heard good a not so good reviews, but I think they have gotten the kinks out. I made reservations on Open Table as it was a Saturday morning. I'm glad I did because we had seats outside with of course a great view. Our server was John, excellent. I had coffee, from SLO Roast and they had raw sugar, a lot of places do not. I ordered the Westerly Scramble, with potatoes, bacon, cheese and egg, also came with sour dough toast and strawberry jam. I'm ruined because I can never have it elsewhere. So sweet and delicious and fresh. - sourdough buns - perfectly crispy on the outside and chewy and soft on the inside. Big flavor. - fish and chips - flaky white fish on the inside and crispy on the outside. The skinny fries are great. - clam chowder - peppery and full of clam. Not too creamy so not super heavy. - coastal bloom - this drink is so refreshing and yummy. I don't like most cocktails but I could have many of these. Not sweet, not bitter from the grapefruit. It's perfectly balanced especially if it is made by Brooke who made our meal at the bar so fun. - Caesar salad - I read really good reviews about this, but it's actually more dressed than I like. Tasty but dressed too heavy for my liking. - westerly burger - a damn good burger with great fries! The patties are not as thick as I expected but it was very flavorful. - chocolate cake - omg I'm dead. It fudgey and moist and rich. I took it to go so I can have it with milk at home. Sunset is beautiful there. Just great ambiance, team, and food. Came for brunch. The food was the best part of our visit. Everything arrived hot, fresh, and tasted very good. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing from start to finish. We had reserved an outdoor table but were seated in the middle of two large parties with no shade, despite having a reservation. After being seated, it took about 10 minutes for our waitress to greet us, and she seemed uninterested while taking our order. Once our food arrived, she never came back to check on us or refill our water. At the end of the meal, she handed us a payment device with the total but never showed us an itemized receipt before asking us to pay. The kitchen did its job well, but the poor service and seating experience really took away from what could have been an enjoyable meal. Based on this visit, I can only give it two stars. read more

Since they're still new, the service is finding its footing, but the staff was friendly and doing their best. The real entertainment of the evening wasn't on the menu--it was the lady at the next table who seemed determined to file a complaint about literally everything. Water too wet, sun too bright, ocean too ocean-y... you get the idea. Overall, a good first experience. Give them some grace as they work out the kinks. I then ordered the gem wedge & added breaded fried shrimp. And omg, the shrimp was breaded w/ panko & it was soooo good!!! The flavor was delish & the panko breading was perfect w/ crunch!!! So first time visiting after seeing a new place in Shell Beach. The pictures don't do it justice. Great outdoor seating and shielded from the wind by glass on a windy day. Food is seafood forward but a few options of meat with ribeye, burger and chicken. Good selection of spirits and wine is focused on local selections from just over the hill in Edna Valley and Paso. Service was quick and frequent.
